US iphone in Australia

Excuse my ignorance about this stuff, I know next to nothing about mobile phones.
Can I buy a $99 iphone in the US with no service plans, have a friend send it to me here and then would it work in Australia just by putting my sim card in it?
Thanks for any help

According to this article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937 , AT&T does not sell unlocked phones.
And, if you buy a phone in another country and you'll have to service the device, you'll have to send it back to where you bought it.

My husband bought a 2nd hand iphone from Australia for a present. but doesnt work here in philippines.
I try to connect to itunes but looks like is lock. we already call the telstra as what my husband say its working properly there,
but until now, dont have responce.. so what i need to do??

Get the phone unlocked from the carrier in Australia - they are the only ones who can do this and you will then be able to use the phone.
If it is the activation lock, then you may never be able to use this phone unless you get the details from the previous owner of the phone.

  • If i buy an iphone in Australia and it is unlocked, can i use it in the uk with a uk sim?

if i buy an iphone in Australia and it is unlocked, can i use it in the uk with a uk sim?

Depends on model for LTE(4G) see this list
    http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/
As long as you buy direct from an Apple Store is should not be carrier locked and will work on 3G and if say an iPhone 6 then 4G as well
    HOWEVER
You will not have warranty or post warranty service in UK for a Australian sourced iPhone ,the warranty is NOT international

  • Ordering Iphone from Australia, However I'm from Middle east. Is it easier?

I would like to Order Iphone from Australia, However I'm from Middle east.
Can Someone guide me how can i place my order being here in Middle East from Australia?
I got my friend living in Australia and they would be coming back by the end of this month. So before i go and Checkout Online payment for iphones i like to inquire about few things.
1.) Is it possible that i can pay online and tell my friend to collect it from the APPLE STORE personally after the payment is made thru my Credit card online? If "YES" what document would they need to take with them to prove APPLE STORE that the payment is made & it should be handed over with no hassle.
2.) If "NOT" then, Can i pay using my credit card here and the person can recieve it locally over there? Again "What documents are required"?
This is pretty much all i want to know.
    Thanks.

Online orders are shipped to your home, not to Apple stores.
I don't know about Australia, but here in the US, you need a US credit card and a US shipping address, so I'm assuming the same about Australia.
Call the Apple Online store and ask

You can't extend it. The warranty is only valid in the country where it was originally sold. If you want to fly to australia and have the phone inspected at an Apple Store, I'm sure they will sell you AppleCare. However, it will ONLY be valid in Australia.

  • Hello I have a 3G and a 4G iphone, purchased in Australia where I lived. But, now I am living in the USA. I understand both iphones from Australia have GSM language - Is there any way I can use either of these iphones in the USA?

Hello  I lived in Australia for 3.5 years, using a 3G and a 4G iphone.  In April I moved back to the USA and would like to use one of these iphones.  I understand Australia iphones use a GSM language and AT&T is the only carrier that will allow me to use for the GSM.  When trying to sign up with AT&T, the SIM card would not work.  When visiting Apple in Walnut Creek, CA, they said that these iphones I have cannot be used in the USA.
Before moving back to the USA, I visited the Apple Store near Sydney and they said I could unlock them to use them in the USA.  THey did something with the 3G iphone, but when I was at AT&T in Walnut Creek, I could not get the 3G to work.
Bottom line:  can I use either my 3G or 4G iphone that I bought in Australia here in the USA?
    Thank you for your help.
    KInd regards,
    Susan Williams

You should contact the carrier (in Austrailia I presume) to which they are locked to as they are the only ones that can unlock your iPhone.

  • I have a 4s iphone from Australia I want to know how to find out it is unlocked to use in the US temporarily

I want to use my Australian 4s iphone in the US.  I was told when I purchased it in Australia that I could use it in the US, which I am visitng for 3 months.  I need to know if it is unlocked. I went to a Verizon store but they were unable to help me.

    Thank You Meg,
I was told when I purchased the phone from Telstra in Australia that the phone was unlocked and i would be able to us it in the US as long as I changed the sim card and found the right carrier. I will now go to AT&T since you have told me they are the carrier.  No wonder Verizon could not assist me.  Thank You.
Do you know how I myself can check to see if it is unlocked??

  • Using iPhone from Australia in Thailand

I am looking to buy a iPhone 4s as a gift for a friend in Thailand will a phone purchased in Australia be suitable or should I purchase it from apple store Thailand

Purchase it from Apple store in Thailand. Should the Australian iPhone
develop an problem requiring repair/replacement, the iPhone would have
to be returned to someone in Australia to take to Apple. Apple does
not accept international shipments for repair nor will it ship out of the
    country after repair.

  • Using UK 02 iPhone in Australia

    Hi,
I am moving to Australia for 6 months and would like some guidance on using my iPhone. Since I got a 3G phone, I cannot imagine life without it! But, I understand the data roaming charges will be really expensive. Does anyone have any solutions??? Can I get a local sim card and put this in the iPhone?
    Any other ideas??
    Thanks

I travelled to Canada with my Aussie iBook back in 2005 and just had a plug adaptor for it.
Since Apple sell "Travel Packs" with the different countries plugs to switch plugs on your power pack, I would assume that you'll be fine.
Just go and talk to an Apple reseller/Apple Store and ask them about getting an Aussie plug for the power pack.

  • Can I connect an iphone in Australia that was purchased in United States?

    Hi there,
My dad wants to purchase an iphone 4s for me for Christmas.  He lives in United States where he plans to purchase the iphone from but I live in Australia.  Is it possible to connect the phone in Australia depite being purchased in the United States?  He mentioned something about GSM frequency? Does anyone have any advice?
    Thank you!
    Lainey

If you live in Australia and the phone is for you and it will be used in Australia, then buy it in Australia and not the US.
The frequency compatibilities are more to do with the iPhone 5 than the iPhone 4s, as iPhone 5 has 4G and LTE capabilities, which the iPhone 4s does not, but anyway, if you are going to be using it in Australia, then buy the phone in Australia and then your warranty will be valid for Australia if anything goes wrong with the phone and you can get it fixed.
The warranty on the iPhone is country specific and NOT worldwide, so if your dad buys the phone for you in the US, then the warranty will only be for the US and not Australia, so if you have problems with the phone, you will have to post it back to him and get him to sort it out in the US under the warranty there.
Bottom line - if the phone is for you to use in Australia, then buy the phone in Australia.

  • Taking a new unlocked iPhone from Australia to the USA

    Hi all,
A thorough search of the net has failed to answer this question and I'm hoping you can help. There are a few threads that explore using an unlocked Aus iPhone in the USA but they all seem to deal with phones unlocked from a carrier.
I have bought a new factory unlocked iPhone from Apple Australia. If I insert a local SIM (like a Vodaphone) to get the phone operating in Australia do I need to unlock it to use it in the USA or does it stay unlocked? I would like to remove the Vodaphone SIM and use an American network while I am there.
    Thanks,
    Shannon

No, if it's officially unlocked by the carrier or factory-unlocked from the Apple Store, it will work with an AT&T SIM card here in the US. But, apparently there are some issues with getting pre-paid SIMs from AT&T, so check into that (the only other GSM network in the US is T-mobile, and their 3G network is not compatible with the iPhone, so you're stuck sorting out the SIM issues with AT&T or using EDGE-only on T-mobile.
Also, be aware that iPhone warranty service is only provided in the country of purchase.
