US IPhone use in Europe

Can i use a IPhone 4s in Europe wich i buy in the USA?

Yes
but only if you ensure you purchase from an Apple Retail store and the iPhone is unlocked and sim free
Do NOT  buy a contract free iPhone that will be carrier locked
Must be GSM model NOT CDMA and the warranty is unlikely to be supported in Europe since
the iPhone does not have a worlwide warranty

  • IPhone use in Europe...

Hello, I am wondering if anyone knows, and can legally discuss, whether or not I will be able to use my iPhone when I move to Italy next October. I heard rumors that Apple was working on a deal with Vodafone, the major European wireless provider. If anyone knows the answer to the question: a.) will my phone that I already have work once I get there? b.) if the phone won't work, has there been an updated european release date? I keep hearing November for Germany. c.) is Vodafone going to be the carrier that apple strikes a deal with? Thanks

You most likely will NOT be able to use the same iPhone when you move to Italy. It will remain locked to ATT as the network provider and you can't just put an Italian-based SIM into it. The iPhone that is eventually released in Italy will be locked to one of your servers there (most likely Vodophone, but maybe someone else) and you won't be able to use your ATT SIM in that one either. You will need to get a new contract with a local provider in Italy that will offer their own locked-Italian version of the iPhone there.
A lot is sure to change before next October, so if you already have one here, I wouldn't worry much about it before next year. If you are thinking of getting one now, just know that you will be looking at a cancellation fee next October not just for your iPhone, but for ANY ATT phone you might get because you are not going to be using their service every day in Italy. If you did, you'd be paying thousands in roaming fees.

  • Can I use old iPhone 4S in Europe for WiFi, w/o cellular service? A few Qs not found in Support Community-

I wish to upgrade to iPhone 6, but first want to know if I can use my iPhone 4S for camera, iMessaging and apps (i.e. What’s App) on Wifi after it is disconnected from U.S. Verizon network?
iPhone 4S, iOS 7.1.2 (reluctant to upgrade to 8.1.2), Verizon, U.S. only
Mac Mini, OSX 10.9.5 (reluctant to upgrade to OSX Yosemite)
I’ve read all of the old posts (2011 thru July 2014), but still have questions.  This is what I understand:
Upgrade iOS and apps with iTunes, before transferring to new iPhone 6
Change the name of my old iPhone http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201997 (if I wish to name my new iPhone what my old one was called)
Enable airplane mode, then re-enable just wifi
    Activate new iPhone
Transfer data to new iPhone http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT2109
    QUESTIONS:
Q: When connected to WiFi in England, Italy and Sicily - do I keep it in Airplane Mode even though it has been disconnected from Verizon and I will have an active iPhone 6 on my Verizon account being used by my husband at home in the U.S.?
Q: Will there be a problem sync’ing to iTunes in the future, or my Mac Mini?  Will it conflict with my new iPhone 6?  Or is it just considered a different device, once it has a new name.
Q: How can I message my husband in the U.S. with the iPhone 6 from Europe using my old iPhone 4S on Wifi only?  Do I use my iCloud account, like I do from my Mac Mini to my iPhone?  Or can I set up a new iMessage account on the old iPhone 4S
I appreciate any insights and answers.  Thanks in advance!
    Daphne

It doesn't have to be that complicated, Verizon iPhones come unlocked, just tell VZ you're going on Holiday/Traveling and suspend the service, no need to pay for service if you're not going to be using it. Pick up local SIM cards in the countries of your choosing, pop them in, re-activate iMessage and you're set!
I recommend getting a SIM card from the Three network in England, they have great EU roaming rates and free like-home roaming in Italy.
Set your phone's region to match the country you're in, it'll save from some headaches when calling local/international numbers.
    To answer your questions,
    1. If you choose not to have a local SIM card, it is good to keep your phone in Airplane mode to save battery.
    2. Make sure the two iPhones have different names to reduce sync/restore issues.
    3. If husband has an iPhone also, you can chat with iMessage/Facetime, just give him heads up about the new number you'll have. Otherwise, use Whatsapp if he's got an Android. You can activate Whatsapp with your American number or the international number if you choose to get a SIM in Europe.
Also, Get the MagicJack app and/or Google Hangouts, both of those apps provide you with free calling to the USA and Canada using any internet connection. Google Voice is another good way to SMS across the seas.
Let me know if you need any more tips for iPhoning across the pond.

  • Can I use my Us iPhone 5s in Europe with a prepaid sim card while on vacation?

Can I use my Us iPhone 5s in Europe with a prepaid sim card while on vacation?

Only if the device is unlocked. Not all US devices are unlocked, as you probably know.

  • I would like to know if iphone 5 GSM model A1429 unlocked is available in stores in the US in order to buy and use in Europe

I would like to know if iphone 5 GSM model A1429 is unlocked and is available in stores in the US in order to buy and use in Europe. Please let me know.
    Thanks
    ST

Not officially for sale in the US, at the present time, although Apple's flagship store on 5th Ave, in New York City, gets supplies from time-to-time. However, no GSM US model iPhone 5 will support LTE anywhere other than North America. It will not support LTE in Europe. If you want LTE support in Europe, you need to purchase your phone in Europe.

  • Can i use iphone 4 in europe

I am wondering if people have found it more cost effective to use the iphone 4 in europe (am going to denmark) or to try to buy some cheap other kind of used phone and put a sim card i buy over there in it. I am new to using forums, so if this q has already been answered, could somone provide the link to that thread or discussion, even if it is on another website? Thanks!

If your phone is carrier locked, to use in Europe...as a phone & for data...would be extremely expensive. You'd have to get International Provisioning activated for your account, then pick a plan & pay through the nose. What many folks do is put their phones in Airplane mode, turn WiFi on & use available WiFi for their phone's data needs(although there are not nearly as many free WiFi spots in Europe as there are say in the US). If you want to make calls, you can either purchase a local phone with a pre-paid sim(they are cheap & readily available) or you could still get International Provisioning activated for your account, but turn cellular data off in settings on your phone. That way you could make/receive calls & SMS's but not incur hefty data charges.

  • I purchared an iPhone 4s from Dubai and it does not have FaceTime on it.  The phone is now used in Europe. How do I get to instal FaceTime please?

I purchared an iPhone 4s from Dubai and find that it does not have FaceTime on it.
The phone is now used in Europe.
How do I get to instal FaceTime please?

The iPhone from Dubai will never be able to have FaceTime. The iPhone country of origin (serial no. and imei no.) is the culprit. The government there has banned FaceTime.

You need to use the credentials for the iCloud account that was used to turn on the Find my iPhone service.
If you can't remember yours, you can recover it here: https://iforgot.apple.com/appleid
If you've been walking around for 2 years with someone else's account set up for Find my iphone, then you'll have to get hold of that individual. If you can't, there is no way to bypass activation lock.

  • HT4528 Does any model of the Verizon iPhone work in Europe?

Does any model of the Verizon iPhone work in Europe?

My experience with their custome service has generally been good and the answers generally accurate. I know that they did change the requirement that phone roam on CDMA, if available. Apple added a switch to turn that off in 5.1. I don't know if that counts as "changing their story" or simply deciding it made for fewer unhappy customers.
The nice man in Global Support gave me a couple of disclaimers (only one unlock per number per year and Verizon would not be responsible for any customer/technical support while I was using a different SIM). The whole process was quick and painless.

  • Buy laptop from USA using in Europe

    Hi,
Please advice me - I would like to buy a laptop Toshiba U400 from Toshibadirect site and ship it to an address in USA. But I will use the laptop in Europe (Bulgaria). May I have any problems?
    Thank you very much.
    Gergana

I would like to use my iPhone while in Europe for free wifi and ipod music only. I have an unlocked GSM phone that I use with a Lebara SIM for very cheap calls back to the USA.
The best suggestions that I read came from the locked message below:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1029360
    and this message.
    In summary:
    1. Select a PIN code for the iPhone SIM card (detailed instructions are in the message above). This will prevent the iPhone SIM card from registering with any other networks.
    2. Remove the SIM card from the iPhone (it can then be placed into another unlocked phone and used at AT&T's much higher rates for voice only). This isn't necessary for me, as I already have the other phone (4.5 cents/minute calls to USA since they are giving double top-off credit).
Here's the really confusing part for me, however: I called AT&T to verify that removing the iPhone SIM card (or not entering the PIN code) would prevent any international charges from appearing on my account.
The representative told me that even with the SIM card removed, it's STILL possible to be charged when using wifi, since the wifi connection may be routed through other carriers. These charges could also take up to 2 months before appearing on my bill.
This is contrary to everything else I have read about how the iPhone works with the SIM card removed, however. Does anyone have any information on this?
Aso, if you have gone to Europe with your iPhone, did not call ahead to enable an international plan, removed your SIM card (or locked it and didn't enter a PIN), and used it only for wifi and music, were you charged anything for international usage? If this worked for one person, then I would think the solution would apply for everyone (iPhone 3G, sw version 2.2 here). Thanks!

  • Using in europe

i know this has been discussed at great length...i've even read the very long thread (albeit locked) about using in non-usa countries. i've called at&t and they supplied me with an answer but it doesnt seem that simple.
does turning off the data roaming function deter you from ANY data transfer to my iphone? at&t claims that as long as this is off, it will not download any data to the phone, but i've read a post where you can call them and ask them to turn off the edge/3g technology temporarily. it really doesnt seem that simple, and i really dont want to rack up $4000 in charges for a 2 week trip.
all i want to do is disable the downloading data capability. i'm going to get an international rate so i can make calls for cheaper. i'm also going to set all the mail apps to manual connect and not push/fetch. short of taking out the sim card, does turning off data roaming all i need to do, or is there more.
thank you so much to all that answer.

I just backed up my 3gs iphone using itunes.  All my photos and contacts have disappeared from my phone.  I am unable to locate them on my computer.  HELP!!!

OK, I understand.  Try this ... it's much safer.  It will simply restore your backup, but not do anything to your iOS:
While your iPhone is plugged in to iTunes, right click on the iPhone icon on the left side of the iTunes display.
Choose "Restore from backup ..." from the pop-up menu that appears.
Again, what this will do is place that backup back on your iPhone without changing iOS.  So you should be very confident in the backup contents before doing this.

I click update on the app or try to purchase an app and it asks for my password. I enter my password, the icon spins and then just goes back to saying update or purchase. I have tried resetting my settings and shutting my phone off and nothing has seemed to work.
