Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Adobe software is conflictive when you use Migration Assistant because their applications don't work properly after migration. If you keep the DVDs or the installers of your software, use them to reinstall all your Adobe applications and they should start working correctly

  • Startup-Crash of AE CS4 on new MacPro

    Hi there,
We've experienced a huge problem with AE CS4: After installing a 3rd party plug-in (MBL), AE refused to start and crashed while initialising the media kernel.
We've tried everything to get it up and running again, but nothing seems to work: Uninstall AE, Re-install AE, Update AE to 9.0.1, removed all plug-ins and extensions, repaired rights etc. AE still crashes on startup/initialising
Anybody has an idea or similar experiences?
    Our config:
    MacPro 2,93 GHz
16 GB RAM (build-in by Apple)
2x 1 TB internal drives (build-in by Apple)
    ATI 4780 HD Graphic
    1x 30" Display
1x 23" Display (via MiniDisplay Port)
    Mac OS X 10.5.6
    Thanks you so much,
    Decon

Some other things to think of:
    Users:Decon:Library:Application Support:Adobe:Common --> kill the MediaCore rules
Users:Decon:Library:Application Support:Adobe:Common:MediaCache --> kill the cache files in it
In addition, consider killing the AE OpenGL plug-in. Beyond that I'm pretty much at a loss. Definitely some configuaration data has gone haywire, but I'm not much of a Mac user, so I feel inadequate to advise.
PS.: By "kill" I mean to move stuff out of the way to a different location, not delete it completely. You wouldn't wanna go through lengthy installs just to get the openGL plug-in back...

  • Better photo editing software, CS4 or Aperture 3?

    Hi,
I've been a Mac user for a few years and have recently picked up photography as a hobby.  I feel like I have outgrown Iphoto and have the opportunity to use CS4 or Aperture 3.  Which do you all think is better?
Also, on a side note, I'm in the market to pick up a new MBP, any suggestions on a model, specs to use with my new hobby?  Thanks in advance for all the input.
Lastly, I'm new to the support communities, so I apologize if I'm not submitting this correctly.

What I have noticed is the Ap 3 appears pretty RAM intensive and seems to "bog down" my MBP (2.66 core2duo, 8GB RAM, 360GBHD).  This is another reason I was considering using something else, as well as purchasing a new MBP (see my initial post).
Photoshop can get slow too, if you pile on the layers and other features. There are tech notes you can read about how to manage RAM with Photoshop, because if you ask it to do certain things, like panoramas and HDR, it could need as much horsepower as Aperture. It's just the nature of image editing, especially if done with many-megapixel images.
    FyrBndr wrote:
I didn't realize you could use both interchangeably.
Not actually interchangeably, but differently according to their strengths. The medical analogy (pardon me if this is lame) might be Aperture is a fantastic general practitioner that can expertly process a bunch of patients in an hour, while Photoshop is the surgeon who gets called in to do amazing things no one else in the hospital can, but needs a 6-hour surgery to do it.

    >My sister is a graphic artist and she has the professional version of all the Adobe software (Adobe Creative Suite 4, Design Premium) which she gave to me when she upgraded to CS5.
The bad news here is that you won't be able to use your sister's old copy of CS4. The software requires product activation and your sister's upgrade to CS5 has cancelled any possibility of using her old copy of CS4. Adobe specifically prohibits that and once a serial number is used to upgrade to a new version, it can no longer be used.
More specifically, the license is for the product, not for the version. The entire upgrade chain belongs to the one license. CS gets 2 activations (which are supposed to be used non-concurrently by a single user, like desktop and laptop or home and work). It is possible for both people to activate one copy within the two activation limit although this is technically a violation of the single-user license.
Legally, only you or your sister can use that suite. If your sister chose to transfer the product license to you, there is some paperwork to fill out and then the license and all future upgrade rights would become all yours and not hers, instead of how it is right now where it's all hers and not yours.

  • Teacup Software CS4 & CS5 missing embedded barcode

Has anyone used the barcode maker software plugin from TeaCup? In both CS4 and CS5 I receive a missing embedded graphic while exporting as a PDF. I usually fix it by resetting the barcode before making the PDF. It is really annoying and frustrating....any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

I'm packaging the files for press. Then typically we make a PDF to send along with it...sometimes high or low resolution depending on the printer.
I use the PC short cut to typically do this Ctrl + E
Then it runs through any issues that might appear.
It pops up with missing link. It then show a red question mark over the embedded barcode.
To fix I usually reset the barcode. It works, but it is annoying and bothersome to do all the time.
In CS3 we never had this problem. I upgraded to CS4 and it started. I work with 3 other designers who have the same issue with the plugin. I was hoping since CS5 was released that this might resolve any bug. But then 1 of our outside designers did upgrade and the bug is still  there.
We are on XP windows platform. We use the entire creative suite. All of our machines are custom built by our IS department so all vary slightly, but we all still have the same issue. We share the multi seat license on the software so use the same files to load from. Our outside designer has his own download/license though and still has this issue. So I didn't know if it was a conflict within Adobe or the Teacup software???
    thank you!

  • Existing Windows network and a new MacPro?

I am currently running a home network as follows:
2 ea. Dell PCs running XP Pro, ethernet wire connected to a LinkSys cable modem/router, connected to Comcast for internet access. I also have an HP color laserjet 3500 printer hardwire connected to the LinkSys as part of the network. I have external hard drives on each PC connected to USB ports on the PCs but made available for accessing to either PC for storage and/or retrieval. I run MS Office 2003 on each PC and use Outlook for my email on each PC.
I am contemplating replacing the older PC with a new MacPro and have the following questions:
    1. Will I simply remove the old PC from the network and connect (ethernet cable) the new MacPro to the LinkSys cable modem/router? Will I have internet access at this point oon my new MacPro or will I have to do something else (configure the MacPro or whatever) to gain this internet access?
    2. Will the new MacPro see the networked HP printer and will I be able to print to that printer thru the network from my MacPro? Any special software needed on my MacPro to print to that printer?
    3. I assume that it is possible to physically connect my current external hard drives to the new MacPro thru a USB connection, but will the MacPro see the files on these ext drives and can I access them?
    4. I plan on installing MS Office on the MacPro. If I create a file (Word, Xcel or PowerPoint document) and email it to a non-believer (PC-user) will they be able to open and use the file, assuming they are running MS Office 2003 on their PC?
    5. I understand that I can install up to four hard drives on the MacPro, all internal. Is there any advantage to using two internal hard drives to provide back up capability as opposed to using one internal hard drive and then buying a separate external MacPro compatible hard drive for my backup? That is - should I go with two internal hard drives or one internal and one external - thinking that if something bad powerwise should happen to the MacPro maybe the ext hard drive would have been spared. (I do have surge protectors on all of my equipment.) I assume that I would NOT be able to access files from the Mac ext hard drive from my other PC. Is that a good assumption?
    6. I understand that I can download BootCamp and run Windows programs on my MacPro. Can I run BootCamp and MacOS concurrently? Can I run BootCamp and MS Office for Windows on my MacPro, prepare a PowerPoint presentation, store it on my MacPro hard drive, then run Mac OS X, PowerPoint (MS Office for the Mac) and open the recently created PowerPoint file that I had created under BootCamp, MS Office for Windows? Can I go back and forth between the two operating systems creating files, opening and storing them? Or is this all a moot point in that any MS Office for Mac file creeated on the MacPro will be fully compatible with any PC system should I email them the file and I don't even have to worry about BootCamp?
    7. I understand that Apple will release their new operating system, Leopard, next spring 2007. Should I wait to buy a MacPro until that new OS is on the market? If I did buy the MacPro now, is it a big deal to upgrade the MacPro to new OS?
Thanx in advance for any advice you can give me.
    Harry
    PC   Windows XP Pro

    1. Should work as soon as you plug in the network cable.
2 Just install the drivers and setup the printer
    3. Yes. Macs can connect to Windows file shares.
    4. Yes. Office files are Office files, no matter the platform.
    5. "I assume that I would NOT be able to access files from the Mac ext hard drive from my other PC."
Use SharePoints fro hornware.com to share the drives to your PC.
"That is - should I go with two internal hard drives or one internal and one external"
How you want to configure your backup scheme is up to you, as your computing needs are different than ours. Internal drives are cheaper, while external drives are portable.
    6. "Can I run BootCamp and MacOS concurrently? "
No. If you want to run Windows and OS X at the same time, use Parallels.
"Or is this all a moot point in that any MS Office for Mac file creeated on the MacPro will be fully compatible with any PC system"
    Yes.
    7. "Should I wait to buy a MacPro until that new OS is on the market?"
Your call. We can't make that decision for you.
"is it a big deal to upgrade the MacPro to new OS?"
    No.

  • Photoshop CS4 missing files after uninstall of CS3

I upgraded the Adobe Creative Suite CS3.3 Design Premium today to CS4 on my MacPro. The upgrade went smoothly. After using the Adobe uninstaller for CS3 and starting Photoshop CS4, an error message appeared stating that required support files were missing, re-install Photoshop CS4. After a second Photoshop CS4 installation all is well.
Apparently the CS3 Design Premium uninstaller is removing a file required for CS4 also.
This is not an isolated incident, as it happened again when installing CS4 on my MacBook Pro. I have also read of similar incidents in other forums. It seems to affect only Photoshop CS4.
    Jerry

As I no longer require CS3 on my Mac after upgrading to CS4 and waiting for the required plugins to be available I have successfully uninstalled CS3 using the Adobe CS3 Creative Suite uninstaller.
NOTE: please make a copy of the 'Adobe Unit Types.osax' found Macintosh HD/Library/ScriptingAdditions/Adobe Unit Types.osax
At home did this without making a backup of the 'Adobe Unit Types.osax', so when I launched Photoshop CS4 it suffered from the "Error: "One or more files in the Adobe Application Support folder.."
At work I did this with making a copy of 'Adobe Unit Types.osax', place it back after the uninstall of CS3... and presto so far so good.
for the 'Error: "One or more files in the Adobe Application Support folder... are missing' when you start Photoshop CS4 (Mac OS)" read here:

  • Can't "Edit in CS4"  New LR 2.3 and PS CS4  in Mac OS Leopard

I have just moved my LR2.3 and CS4 onto a MacPRo and have a problem I can't find a solution for when I have searched the Knowledge Base.
When I have an open image in LR, and Photo> Edit In > Edit In Photoshop CS4 (or "open as a smart object in CS4"), then work on the image in CS4 and then try and "save" or "save as" in Photoshop CS4,  I get this error message.
"Could not save (document name) because write access was not granted".
Previously on my PC, this operation worked seamlessly??
I am new to Mac and have only had the computer a few days.  Does anyone have any answers on how I can access and have read write privileges between CS4 and Lightroom?  I can't imagine why two adobe products aren't able to read/write to each other, but that seems to be what has happened.
I'm using OS X Leopard on a MacPro.
    Thanks

I have a solution to the problem.
When you are using a PC the files are stored on your HD in FAT32 file format..
When you are using a MAC the files are stored on your HD in a different format.  That means you can read your files on the Mac, but you can't write.
On my HD Seagate recommend using the OS Extended format when their HD is used on a Mac.
The solution is to reformat your external HD and use the Applications-> Utility -> Disk Utility program on the Mac to reformat the external HD.
Before you do this you have to save your data on the external HD somewhere in the Mac or another HD that is connected to the Mac.
Once this is done start the reformating of the HD by following this sequence    Applications-> Utility -> Disk Utility.  A page opens up that has you select the drive that you want to reformat, and once you have done that, in the "Erase" window, select OS Extended (Journalized) or a format your HD manufacturer recommends.
There is a second window called "Name" which allows you to name the drive that you are reformatting.  Once you have made these selections then you proceed with the reformatting, and once that is done, you can move your files onto the external HD that you had previously relocated to another HD.
The files on the reformatted HD are now Read/Write, and the problem of not having write permissions is fixed.
So this isn't a problem with the Adobe products, but one where you have to reformat HDs when you are switching platforms from PC to Mac or the reverse.

  • What software installed do I use to upload desktop photos to web?

What software installed on my MacPro, OS X ver 10.8.4 do I use to upload desktop photos to web?  I was trying to upload pics from my desktop to craigslist.  Software installed, Photo Booth and Face Time don't offer the ability to do this.

You usually just use a Browser as far as I Know. There should be buttons on the page where you edit your ad text that will open a Dialog Box for you to specify what file to send.

    Hi,
Maybe you can take a look to the LogMeIn web service. The only think you need to do is creating a free account and install the software on your home macpro. After this, on your WinXP laptop, just open your LogMeIn account on a browser and that's it !

Hi, i couldn't open my Dreamweaver software cs4 on windows 7. I have tried to change the compatibility of the software to windows vista or windows xp, but each time after i click on agree for the rules and regulations nothing happened. Is there anything i can do to open the software?

OMG SnakeEye - you are my hero!
Here's what I did - I right-clicked the parent folder of my site in Explorer, selected Properties/Security and edited the permissions (some of the were Read-only).  At first it wouldn't "stick," but I diddled a bit and was able to make the change and update all my files.  I guess I'll have to do this for all my sites.
Before I diddled, I thought I'd check the computer administrator permissions, but it sounded too complicated:
"You must change the permissions to give the IUSR_computername account the correct permissions so the web server can access the database file. In addition, the folder containing the database file must also have certain permissions set to write to that database..." from http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Dreamweaver/10.0_Using/WSc78c5058ca073340dcda9110b1f693f21-79f 0.html
Is there an easier way to do this?
Thank you again!  My migraine is gone!

  • Premiere Pro, MacPro late 2013, AMD Fire Pro 500, editing timeline screen-freeze out.

Adobe Premiere Pro software and my new MacPro with AMD 500 FirePro will not play nice together. Just for the record, I recently purchased two MacPro Late 2013, 6-core, 16GB, AMD FirePro D500, running OS X 10.9.5 systems. We now edit in Premiere Pro through AdobeCloud and have been a buzz about it until we switched to the New MacPro.
Issue: The timeline in Premiere Pro keeps locking up, crashes, displays artifacts in the video and keeps stuttering on top of it in both Mercury PlayBack GPU (OpenCL) and Software modes (both act the same). Searching many posts and possible solutions online to this problem it seems this is a common issue that has yet to be fixed.
I have called both Adobe and AppleCare and both seem to be pointing the finger at each other without admitting any fault what-so-ever. Shame on both of you for ignoring your core base customer and providing a fix. After hours spent on the phone with both companies trying to just get help resolving this issue, with no resolution what-so-ever or any real work-around, it is my opinion that I have been conned.
I have no other conclusion to come to. I generally do not post, mainly because I do not have the time to do so. I prefer searching posts to find a solution or calling the Pro’s to get the answer if I can not find it or figure it out on my own. So sad to say I am now posting for the first time ever because I really do not know what else to do.
As a Director Producer and editor of over 80 stand-up comedy shows that have premiered on the Showtime Network (all edited in FCP 7 and recently in PremierePro over the past 8 years) and who has invested 1,000's if not hundreds of thousands of dollars in product and time into both Adobe and Apple over the past 10 years, I gotta say I am very disappointed in both Adobe, Apple and AMD for what seems to be an unwillingness to admit fault or even acknowledge that this malfunction exists.
Maybe this is just a good old fashion a con? Can't really decide which it is since I feel both conned, let down and deceived into purchasing the new MacPro and Adobe Premiere Pro products with the idea that it would not only make my life easier but would in fact save me money and time. None of which seem to be coming to fruition.
In-fact I have lost a week in time that I will never get back and actual work (files lost) trying to come up with my own solution or work around to what seems to be a design flaw. Not to mention the over 10k we have spent supposedly upgrading to the most advanced and best working machine and software in the industry… right! Is that why these products are called Pro? MacPro, Adobe Premiere Pro and AMD FirePro 500??? Really? This is so not Pro, this has in fact become counter-PRO-ductive.
With the advanced technologies of both these great companies these products are suppose to work as advertised and they do not. Shame on both of you for conning us who are loyal consumers into following you down this dark path while you fight it out and point the finger behind the vail at each other over what I am sure can be fixed, while we the consumer suffer your learning curve or unwillingness to admit fault.
There are thousands of Editors and producers who have been “con"-vinced through great marketing to upgrade to the MacPro trash-can (starting to see why its called that) while trying to adapt years of work through Premiere Pro to have it stop because these three "Pro Companies" can’t seem to get it together. GET IT TOGETHER!!! All of you and get this fixed.
Stop pointing the fingers at each other and get this fixed or years of good will be unraveled. Don't make us all go out and buy custom PC systems that might be faster and better working.
Steve Jobs would have never settled for this mediocrity and unwillingness to admit publicly that something is broken. He would have gotten it fixed and fixed quickly before it even got to this point. Please … Fix this so I can get back to what I do, working on delivering shows and stop forcing me to waste my time writing posts that undoubtably get lost on def ears!

The picture freeze comes randomly so there is no chance of seeing the usage in time and is only in Pr, not the MacPro at all. The time-line picture in Pr freezes and the sound continues to play out. Then when the timeline is stopped and we try and scrub to see movement, the sound scrubs normally but the picture does not. Eventually the clip in that section becomes either a freeze frame for the entire clip or it randomly turns green, sometimes not all green sometimes all green sometimes random lines of color artifacting. Then quitting out of the program is the only way out. Also at this point Pr does not quit completely, we have to do a force quit to shut it down. When it opens back up again the timeline is fine for another 20 minutes or so. Again longest run was about 2 hours before artifacting and freezing out.  Also at any edit point, we then have to render to see it play smoothly, it works intermittently sometimes ok for a period of time after the render. Also if there is no render, then there is nothing but stuttering in that area of the timeline which i know is not suppose to happen.
FYI: below is the email I got back from the Support Associate I spoke with at Adobe just three days ago (October 3) who's thought was that it was a system wide problem with the OS X and that I should read his attached link (still no solution) which is also where I got some of my rhetoric about finger pointing and although I made it clear I was on 10.9.5 this link talks about problems with 10.9.3: of course, on the opposite side, the AppleCare supervisor I spoke to later in the day blamed it on Adobe Pr stating that no other program was experiencing these problems. Again no solution and more reason for frustration in my original post.
