US unlocked A1533 use on LTE in Italy

I am not understanding the LTE band conundrum. I would like to buy the only unlocked iPhone available in the US from Apple A1533 GSM which supports LTE bands 1,2,3,4,5,8,13,17,19,20,25. Outside of the US I will use it on the Italy Tre network. The iPhone for the Italian market is the A1457 which supports LTE bands 1,2,3,5,7,8,20.
I've read through many posts about purchasing an iphone in the US for use overseas and many replies say it won't work on LTE. How is that possible if only one shared band isn't supported?

Unfortunately no. iPad 3rd gen LTE hardware is different than iPad 4th gen LTE hardware. Compatibility list http://www.apple.com/ipad/LTE/ gives us no hope. Only in US and Canada you can use LTE with iPad 3rd gen. We are so unlucky. I paid for iPad 3rd gen 32Gb, Wifi + Cellular 729 Euros and only 5 months later Apple released iPad 4th gen. I am testing LTE on my iPhone 5 today and it really ROCKS.

What website? The US Apple store site? If so, yes the phones will work, but you can't purchase anything from the US store unless you have a verified billibg/shipping address in the US, & the items will only be shipped to a US address.

Not with a local sim, no. All US iPhones are carrier locked and cannot be officially unlocked. If you want to use your phone in Italy, as a phone, you will need to contact AT&T and have international provisioning activated for your account, then pick a plan.

I have an old iPhone 3S, that was used with Bell. My friend lost her phone and I lend her this one, which she unlock to use with Rogers. I got it back and want to use as an iPod not the phone, but when I connected to iTunes I am getting this message: "There is no SIM card installed in the iPhone you are attempting to activate. Please diconnect and insert a SIM card".
I went to Bell and Rogers where we tried inserting active cards but message never changed.
On the phone itself I am able to get wifi but finish with "Your phone could not be activated because the activation server is temporary anavailable."
I run diagnostic from iTunes:everything is working properly, only message out of normal is "iTunes is not running in safe mode"
How can I sinc this phone with iTunes, so I can use it to lisen to music?

I can not get to iPhone screen, so no way to get to Settings. That is the problem. When I connect phone to iTunes I get screen asking to insert SIN card. On the phone I'm getting Cinfigure screen asking Launguage , Country or Region, Wi-Fi, ( I can connect to my home wi-fi), and last screen "Activating your iPhone". PHones can only be unlocked from the carrier; if you're looking for an unlocked device I'd recommand buying it directly from Apple as that is the only way to promise it is, if you buy it second hand you may find it is locked to a carrier who doesn't support unlocking, or worst yet activation lock

As Ethmoid says, it is still a CDMA phone as I told you earlier, and it will not work with t-mobile. Even if Sprint unlocked the phone, it would only unlock the GSM side for international use. They will not unlock the GSM side for domestic use in the US.

Only the carrier the phone is locked to can authorize unlocking it. Why do you think they would do so before you complete the terms of your contract? I don't know specifically what their policy is, but most carriers won't do so unless they are legally required to.
If you didn't want to use Optus, why did you sign a contract with them?

You should still be able to manually manage the music on your iPhone within iTunes. Make sure that when your iPhone is plugged in, look in the Summary tab to see if “Manually manage music and videos” is enabled and you can even you turn off Automatically Sync when this iPhone is connected. Do you know there is the lock/unlock thing on the top or bottom right? If that doesn't work, hold down the middle circle and top portion of the circle button at the same time and hold until the screen goes black. Let go and soon an apple will appear. If you wait / press some buttons (i am not sure exactly how this part works) it will turn white and then the screen will appear again. You have all your music and everything still but the problem should be gone. This also works if your iPod ever freezes.

Yes, you should be able to use a local SIM card from a carrier in Ontario. You should not have to do anything prior to doing so.
