USA, Belle Refresh, and N8

I have an N-8, product code:
059C8T6
I'm trying to get Belle Refresh on it. I live in the US, and bought it here unlocked..... I'm on AT&T at the moment.
Nokia's site is showing that the software version should be 111.040.1511.
I'm showing 111.030.0609... and no software updates in Nokia Suite, or on the phone.
I'm not sure if I'm just not going to be able to get it, but knowing would be nice.

The OP and other North American users are not asking for any "new" update to the N8 than is already available to many (most?) N8 users around the world.  I'm in the same boat - have an N8 with Symbian Belle, but not the Belle Refresh. Would like for Nokia to publish the update to US users.

  • Questions on FP1, FP2, Belle Refresh and availabil...

    Hello,
First things first: Note that my post is not intended to ask when Belle Refresh will be available for my phone. I have been reading a lot about this topic, on this and many other forums, and know by now that I need to be patient and wait for Belle Refresh to be available for my Nokia N8-00.
    My questions are:
Among the many things I read, one caught me completely off-guard. It stated that Belle Refresh might be discontinued for older phones like the N8 because of the many hardware limitations, the many reported issues and the complexity of the deployment for the many different product codes. Is there any truth to it?
Can someone please explain what the FP1, FP2 and Belle Refresh features are, what the release sequence is, and why these updates have not been released simply as "Symbian Belle updates" and identified by a sequential software version number?
Lately, I have noticed that there are more and more apps for Symbian "disappearing" from the Store. I noticed this when I tried to reinstall a home-banking application after a full phone-reset/reinstall and I was not able to find that app on the Store anymore. The Store's support was not able to help and recommended to contact the software provider. So I did. Their answer was pretty straightforward: "We are not developing applications for Symbian anymore because it's an obsolete and unsupported platform." (sic) Other software development companies gave me similar answers (anyone can contact and ask Soft Pauer, a company that develops a Formula 1 app. This company is the official software provider for "Formula One World Championship Limited" and disregarded the Symbian platform as a target for the official Formula 1 mobile app last year). My question: Has anyone in this forum also heard something like this? If so, why is Nokia telling us they will support and promote Symbian until 2014?
    Thank you!

The Nokia Belle Refresh was just released about a week ago or so. So, even if there is indeed Nokia Belle FP2 Refresh or whatsoever for these phones, it might take (Probably) months for it to released. In anyhow, we will never know when will it released or even if there IS Nokia Belle FP2 for Nokia 500 or older.
If I have helped you in any way, give me a kudos!

  • E6-00: what's wrong with Belle refresh (and other ...

I've been following this forum and have always been up-to-date with E6-00 firmware. I've been almost happy with Belle and was expecting hardly the Belle refresh version for the Music player upgrade. What I got was - ? I don't know. Just the new version and no instant visible change. However... :
    - the Music Player is the same. Meaning, no song search and still ridiculous user interface
    - the phone tries to establish the data connection quite often even if no application is open
    - the phone is hardly responsive from time to time (while looking for the network connection)
    - the phone does not want to connect to the wifi. Restart helps.
    - the phone loses the network operator and does not reconnect. Happened once (when roaming). Restart helps immediately.
    - the Microsoft Apps: pursued upgrade. I personally do not need them. The screen is simply to small to use them effectively.
    - (not a complaint) the battery life: I think the battery life is not really affected by the OS. Those complaining about shorter battery life should check how much time they spend using the phone, being connected to wifi, etc.
I'm very disappointed with the E6-00. I try to keep it positive but it keeps me down with every (new) issue. Does anyone has advice what to do with upper mentioned issues? I bought the phone ~2 months after it was available. I'm assuming that these first production series can have hardware issues? My phone was on reparation twice: for the notification light (hardware thing) and bluetooth issues (voice not heard over the bluetooth headset). The latter is still present I think...
I consider buying E71 since there's no other good (Nokia) phone on the market. What makes me sad the most is that my iPod touch does wifi connection and other things smoothlessly... But I don't want an iPhone (which is in principle the same as iPod touch), I just want a good Nokia.

    strelamcqueen:
I agree with your post except for the fact that Belle hosed my E6.  Meaning: if you look at all my other posts, it's all about the GPS data functions that were awesome with the E71 then went away with the E6 on Anna.  At least with Anna, there was an app called LeGPSData2 that restored most of the E71 GPS functionality.  LeGPSData2 is not compatible with Belle. Sooo, I am currently using my E6 ONLY because of the decent camera.
Belle made the UI look pretty but that's it.  I found the same problems with the responsiveness that you mentioned and issues with not connecting to my home wifi when I try to browse the net at home.  There's nothing like downloading a bunch of big files only to discover that I've chewed up a bunch of data because the phone didn't connect to wifi.  I put the wifi widget on one of my home screens and I make sure that I manually connect to wifi now before starting the browser. The Microsoft app via the upgrade were a joke. They actually took over Quick Office so that Excel and Word opened with MS Office Mobile.  This would be fine but they open so tiny they are unreadable and they are not editable with MS Office Mobile for some reason.  I removed the MS apps immediately.
My battery life suffered a lot after Belle refresh.  With normal use as before the upgrade I would get home with about 50% battery with 3G ON.  With Belle refresh,  The battery won't make it through a full day with 3G on and I end up with about 25% battery at the end of the day with 3G off.  Good thing I don't use much data through the day!
This is actually my second E6; long story but the first I upgraded to Belle and was disappointed with the loss of LeGPSData2 app.  This one I was forced to upgrade to Belle refresh because while updating Ovi Maps one night, the update completely deleted the Ovi Maps app and I could not get it back without updating the OS to Belle refresh.
So I am with you.  I too am very disappointed with the E6 but most of my disappointment comes from the software 'upgrades'.  If Nokia would just leave well enough alone, all would be fine.  I am sorry I have no advice to take care of the problems you and I are facing.  I am in search of a new phone now and if I don't downgrade to an E72, I won't be getting a Nokia again.  It's a sad story because I have been a die hard Nokia fan for a long time.

  • Nokia belle refresh Email and calendar update not ...

Hi! I'm using the Nokia E7 running Nokia Belle refresh and my problem is that the email and calendar update released by Nokia recently is downloaded onto my device but is not installing, it shows installing, then restarts the device without finishing the installation. Anyone who can assist in solving this puzzle?

Hi, if you have an antivirus software on your e7 then this could be the cause. Uninstall it and it probably will work.

  • N8 Belle Refresh pb with contacts

    Hello,
I have updated my N8 to belle refresh and now I can not access to the details of my contacts.
it is openning the screen (one step before editing it) but nothing is loading, then I am going back to the list of contacts.
Does anyone have the same trouble?
What could I do to fix that?
Thanks in advance for your help!

    Ciao Iamadanu,
I have uninstalled Exchange for now I'm doing with Googasync. But I'm reading in other forum/groups that several people are having the same problem, same way, at the same time (these weeks).
What you did before? Simply you maintain Exchange and then suddenly it worked? I've tried several times to do the sync from the same way as you, but that worked only "manually" and only one time, and never automatically.
Can you post your settings (except private data)? Thanks.

  • Nokia 500 and Belle Refresh: browser issues.

    Greetings.
The Belle Refresh was indeed a welcome refresh for this low-to-midrange phone. However, there is a serious issue with the browser.
With the update to Qt 4.8, you inherited QtWebKit, an amazing browser I know very well. In a desktop, it's fast, although it eats more memory than Firefox. However, in a cell phone like the 500, with limited amounts of RAM, this browser freezes the phone, due to the lack of memory. I'm also sure this browser can and will break phones with more memory and Belle FPx, since I've made QtWebKit use more than 1 GB of RAM in a computer running KDE.
There is a way to avoid this, called "user agent". Opera Mobile avoids this scenario by telling pages through user agent "hey, don't be hard on me, I'm browsing this from a cell phone", and pages adjust themselves to that scenario. However, you didn't tweak the user agent in your browser.
If you add no user agent tweaking, full HTML5 support, Flash Lite support (the much higher specced iPhone 4S doesn't support Flash), and low memory, you get a nightmare scenario.
    1. The webpages send their complete, full featured DESKTOP versions to my Nokia 500.
    2. QtWebKit supports everything, so, it makes a faithful attempt to properly render the page, even with Flash apps.
    3. Nokia 500 has only 70-80 MB of RAM free for apps to use.
    4. Boom.
Can you release a hotfix for Belle Refresh, changing the user agent of Nokia Browser to something that can trigger the mobile version of web pages? In that scenario, QtWebKit will eat much less memory and everyone will be happy. And please, can you do this for everyone using Belle Refresh?

I can confirm serious browser issues with the Belle refresh on a C6-01 device. The crash is so severe that only taking out the battery helps. It typically occurs when scrolling larger, feature-rich (and image-rich) webpages, so far I've seen this only on mobile connections (Edge, Umts), but that may be due to lack of testing with WLAN. (Where I've got WLAN I've usually a more powerful device as well..

Your Italian N8-00 is a Country Variant and the Belle refresh update is subject to local/regional approval. You may try and contact your local Nokia Care for more information.

  • Re: N8-00 Belle Refresh

    Hi there,
We are located in the Boston area, USA, carrier is T-Mobile.
Question: Are we going to be able to update to "Belle Refresh" ?
When checking for updates, we are told that we are "updated",
however, when looking the  Device Manager, it tell us that
    Latest Update was not updated...\
Other info that may help situating our phone software:
    -> Software Version: 11.030.0609
    -> Software Version Date: 2011-11-26
    Thank you for your attention.

I am in USA too, with an N8, 700, and 701. Seems a lot of N8's worldwide didn't get the refresh. Conjecture has been that updating all the phones was too much trouble and too expensive, especially given Nokia's abandonment of Symbian. Reading some of discussions, I gather many people are upset. Nokia didn't give fp1 or fp2 to the 700 and 701 devices either , notwithstanding the promises to do so. Bad business.

  • Update belle refresh on n8

Hi, can someone tell me please, when comes into o2 ireland refresh belle update for nokia n8 phone? Thanx

If Belle Refresh it's not available yet in some european countries, USA N8 owners will never get this update. N8 was Nokia's flagship phone. $500. Bad internet browser, bad battery, bad (low) internal memory, bad display, bad updates, bad support service, many glitches, took forever to release updates whitch made things worse. I loved and enjoyed Nokia's products for many years, but I can not trust Nokia anymore.

    Why mobilnit operators?
    this is a software NOKIA
why they should be released please update Updates for other ANNA and BELLE I did the update without any problem

Well here is my N8/ Belle story, or should I say nightmare. I checked my phone for updates, and installed an important update, which ended up being Belle. Nothing has been the same since. What doesn't work on my phone since the install...
    - I can not make phone calls without turning the phone off and then on again. Even if I do that, there are no guarantees I can put a call through. Everything about dialing a phone number looks like it is working, but all I get is silence. If I call my phone from another phone, I hear the ringing on the phone I am using, but my N8 doesn't ring, or act like a call is coming in.
-I can't text message anymore, send or receive. I can create a message, press send, but it just sits in the outbox. Occasionally an " Unable to send" window pops up.
-I charge up the phone, and the battery is dead within hours. A charge will not last through the night. Here's the kicker....I just had a brand new battery installed.
I am sure there are other issues that I have yet to discover, because, well, I am trying to solve the important things like making a darn phone call!!
I have been around to nokia offical forums in other countries, and I have seen other Nokia phone owners experiencing the exact same problems as I am. I purchased the phone in Canada from Rogers. Last year, I came to the States for five months, unlocked the phone and used T-Mobile. I returned to the States again this wiinter (I am still in the USA), and am back on T-Mobile. Everything was fine until Feb. 28th, 2013, the day I did the install of Belle.
If there is anyone out there who can troubleshoot the issues, or offer some insight as to how to fix my phone, I will be very grateful.

  • Bella Refresh For Nokia N8

Can anyone at Nokia USA tell me after 10 months my N8 PC 059C8T6 has yet to receive Bella Refresh, purchased in the US and there is no carrier involvement?  So why and will we ever get it??????????

Obviously the longer time goes by the less likely this is going to happen as US warranty only 12 months compared with 24 months in EU. With Symbian now in "maintenance mode" tasks for Accenture to complete have to be prioritised and the miniscule market penetration for Symbian in the US will not help in this respect.

  • N8 Belle refresh: Nokia Suite Backup has problems ...

Since I installed the Belle refresh on my N8 the backup of Nokia Suite 3.5.34 has difficulties to safe Documents.
Only after restarting the N8, the backup works.I assume some documents are locked. This was never a problem before.
What are these documents and where are they located in the N8. I have not created any documents myself.

Having sold my Lumia I bought 808 PureView, owned previously N8. In my view, Symbian Belle is a great system, much better than Windows Phone and you do not need to sacrifice your privacy as much as with WP. The only one thing I wish Nokia could improve, is the speed of reading emails, web browsing and installation of apps from Ovi Store. I do not know why it still so slow as 808 PureView has double fast processor clock compared to N8?
And unfortunately 808 PureView still has a bug they introduced with Symbian Belle - bluetooth connection with some hands-free car devices do not work correctly, eg. with Bury CC9045 V04. You do not hear the first incoming call, need to drop it and wait for a second call.
Apart from above, it is a great phone!

  • Nokia N8 Belle Refresh

Here in New Zealand I upgraded my Nokia N8 to from Belle to  Belle Refresh today (Product Code 0598797 - Chinese).
    1) Nokia Suite was full of information about what the upgrade would do.
    2) Nokia Suite also told me what I could lose, and suggested that some Apps may be lost.
    3) The upgrade proceeded smoothly, well within the 30 minutes or so it suggested it may take, and restarted the phone.
    4) It came up with the default colours and default number of home screens, and in Chinese. A quick couple of taps to put it back into English, and then around ten minutes to re-instate my home screens, shortcuts, and widgets, and voila, an upgraded phone.
    5) It seems smoother, snappier in the Browser, and an improved set of features within the music player.
    6) the Space on C: has improved by around 28MB.
Well done Nokia. This is so appreciated for a phone that had the first generation of Symbian ^3.
I travel a lot with my business, and nowadays take just the N8, as I find it's camera sufficient for my needs. When I go somewhere exotic I take my HD VideoCam of course, and my SLR, but in general the N8 does what I want. Coming back home, it's simply plugin via HDMI and show my family the pics. On my Travel, the GPS, both Drive and Walk is a God-send, and very reliable.
Having watched the saga of Nokia mishandle the Symbian "burning platform" intentions, by prematurely announcing it's death, and then killing off Meego just as it started to show some ability in at least shoring up the share price and retaining Nokia market share for another twelve months, I started to become doubtful about Nokia's ability to survive.
I nearly bought a Pureview 808 but decided to wait, and being in the IT industry, I knew it would be crazy to go for a Win 7 Lumia product. Having seen the specs on the Lumia 920, I am confident that if I wait for a succesor to the Lumia 920, there might be a phone worth having.
I love HDMI, I love the removable micro SD-Card, and I use both a lot. Any phone without these N8 features would be retro-grade!
So Nokia, when you bring out a Lumia with all the hardware features you have taught me to love on my Symbian, then I will upgrade. But in the meantime, you did such a good job with the N8, and Nokia Belle, that I am confident it will last until you do bring out a phone that really is an upgrade.
Kudos for Nokia Belle Refresh in the meantime - you have bought some brand loyalty for the Interim.
