USA iPad2 back to UK??

Hi,
I'm thinking of getting an iPad2 next time I'm in the USA and understand the 3G version come with either ATT or Verizon network provider setup which needs to be activated with them fi I want. Of course I'm wanting to bring it back to UK and use an English network provider.
Am I correct in thinking all iPad2's are unlocked ? i.e. Will I be able to simply put in a micro-SIM from O2/Orange/Vodafone?
Obviously I don't ant to return hoem with it and then suddenly find out I can't use it to it's full potential.

The iPads sold by Verizon will not work in Europe. aTT's should be unlocked. To be certain
Buy an iPad at Best Buy in Canada. I am sure they are unlocked there

They'll just give you 10% to recycle your iPad. You will get more money if you sell it yourself, via ebay or I know that best buy and I think walmart still has a buyback program.

Questions re: buying in the USA & taking back to UK

Hi all, I'm a British exchange student and my year studying in Texas is coming to an end. I am considering buying a 13" MacBook Pro, as they are cheaper here using the education pricing (though I've not decided on whether to get the core i5 or i7 version yet). Anyway, I have a couple of questions about taking it back to the UK. Firstly, they have international warranty and voltage right? So I can just use it with a plug adapter and if anything goes wrong in the first year I can take it to an apple store/call customer service in the UK?
Also, I am wondering about buying the AppleCare. This, too, is a lot cheaper when purchased in the USA. Would I still be able to use all of the apple care benefits like free repairs and customer service in the UK? I've trawled t's&c's for ages and can't seem to find a definite answer. I'd be buying it at an authorised campus store so I'm not sure whether the staff there will have all the answers. I know there will be a slight difference in keyboards but I'm not too bothered by that.

The warranty is indeed world wide. The voltage differences are not a factor. You may need a different plug adapter for the UK. The Apple care should be applicable as is the warranty.
Note though the the customs people may want some £'s when you go back home which may reduce your savings.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

When you say transfer pictures back it suggests that these may have been pictures synced to the iPad but not taken with the IPad camera. Regardless, only pictures taken with that camera, emailed to it or imported by a camera kit will be included on the camera roll, and, consequently, sync to a computer. [All pictures can be synced the other way around - computer to iPad] If they are otherwise you can get an app to help you transfer them. (I do mine by copying them via Widows Explorer (Finder in Mac). Once on your computer you can save them to an SD Card if it has that facility.

White IPAD2 64 3G - White dot underneath Screen, Dead pixel

Hi,
I am residing in Stockholm,Sweden. i bought my ipad2 the day it was released here on march 25th.
3 days back, i noticed a dead pixel, which was visible while using safari. i have downloaded the pixfix app to confirm the dead pixel. the pixifix conducts few tests by changing the colors and the dead pixel was visible as black.
how ever, i switched off the ipad and to my astonishment, i can see a small white dust/mark underneath the glass with no visible scratches or anything. since i take care of my IPAD very well.
i had the same problem with my first generation ipad after few months which apple replaced it.
since then, i called apple in stockholm, and they directed me to go to Digitall Inn their premium reseller/support. this is the place I bought my ipad2. i went in there and the support guy(daniel) try arguing that it is not a dead pixel instead scratch. and he had no answer when i showed him the white dust/mark. he said one of their technicians will analyze and get back. this was happening last saturday.
its been two days since they never updated/called me, i called up digital inn and i was told that, they will take a photograph of the issues and send to apple. it will take 3 more days to get an udpate from apple. and he also offered me to take the ipad2 back or keep it in store. i told them i need a solution to this and till then they can keep it.
i am seriously surprised by the kind of support i am getting from digital inn. i have invested a lot in this device, and when it is defective, i dont understand the kind of support i am getting from this premium resller

Yesterday afternoon at 1.01 pm, got a call from the technician at digital inn, and he told me that apple had indeed sent a new ipad for me and i could go there to collect it.
well, i was thrilled by the sudden turnarround of events and i rushed from my place of work to get it.
so finally a brand new one, i beilive no refurbished stuff. bought a belkin verve folio from webhallen which is next to digitall inn in stockholm.
so glad that, go every thing fast rather than after 2-3 weeks.

in stockholm, sweden, they dont have any apple stores but we have to go through thier premium resellers who has stores similar to apple store. hence for any issues, we are left with no choice but work with these folks. digitall inn is one of thier premium reseller.

HT4218 I can not see my iPad2 on my iTunes software

Currently I have several issues with my iTune and iPad2 sync:
1. My iPad2 is connected to my PC, but I cannot see it in iTones at all.
2. I currently have Windows 7 installed and can not get to install the iTunes 64 for this sofware.
3. I have purchased several Free apps, and cannot get to install them in my iPad.
4. I have purchased the mighty eagle for Angree Birds, and I do not see it on the game at all. Everytime I try to use it it asks me to buy once more.
5. I have been waiting for my purchased ticket since I bouth my iPad2 back in December. Coudl you resend to [email protected]?
As yo may se my delama with my new tool. I currently use my iPad2 for work and fun.
Could you please see if this items can be resolved?

Printing on HP LaserJet P1102w from iPad2 via AirPrint: is printer supposed to have its own network?

Or is printer meant to have its own network? When I want to print, I have to disconnect my iPad2 from my 'Belkin54g' home WiFi network & connect it to the 'HP-Print-4F-LasetJet 1102' network that is listed (under 'Choose a Network' on my iPad2's Settings/WiFi page).
Once the printing has finished, I need to re-connect my iPad2 back to my Belkin WiFi network.
iPad2 shows the printer has/is on its own separate distinct WiFi network & my WiFi/Internet Router/Access Point is on its own one; both show up as such ("'HP-Print-4F-LasetJet 1102" for the printer & "Belkin54g" for the WiFi).
Please can anyone advise me if this is correct, or if I have set it up incorrectly?
And if so, where/how I would need to change this? I was going to have a look in the web-page based Config pages for the printer & my router.
Any help/advice would be gratefully received. It seems to take ages for my iPad2 to reconnect to the WiFi router once I finish printing (upto 20mins, which makes printing very time consuming, although this is probably a separate issue in itself!).

I understand you have a new router and are unable to setup the printer on the new network.
Thank you for your reply.
I will be happy to help you with this.
I would reset the printer first to clear out any previous network settings.
Turn the printer off, hold down the wireless button and cancel (x button) while turning the printer back on and don't release the two buttons until the printer stops making noise.
Print out a configuration report and make sure the SSID and IP address are cleared. (hold down the x button and when the printer makes a noise let go)
After the reset, disconnect the routers power cable, wait 10 seconds, then reconnect the power cable. Wait till it's ready.
Since the software is already installed then I would setup the wireless again by connecting the printer by USB to the computer.
Then go to start, all programs, HP, Laserjet, wireless configuration wizard, follow the steps to setup the wireless. When finished remove the USB cable.
Then try and print.

How to recover photo's from SD card deleted in error by iPad2?

I deleted the whole contents of my SD card after uploading to the iPad 2 using the camera
connection kit, in fairness it did ask if I wanted to but hit the screen as it rotated so confirmed
in error.
I now have the SD card in my iMac card slot and have tried already to run recovery software
on the memory device but it doesn't find any deleted items.
Does the iPad delete the file name header differently than a camera or iMac would which would
explain how the recovery software (tried 3 different products) can't see the deleted files?
Any advice welcomed

Great news, I found a solution and have restored ALL deleted pictures from my iPad2 back
to my iMac.
I realised that all the recovery software for SD cards is subject to one key fact, that you've not overwritten the data with fresh data. I'd continued to use my SD and had another 600+ shots on it, as at that stage they were on the iPad but it overwrote the orginal images on the card.
The method I used was to purchase PhoneView v2.6.3 from www.ecamm.com for $20, it's designed for the iPhone but works perfectly on the iPad 2, ENSURE you close iTunes before running, and it will scan the iPad and find any deleted media, in my case the missing 100+ pictures I'd lost. It should perform well with movies also.
Simply the best $20 I've spent as the lost images were priceless!!

Ipad wont back up unless via itunes

I have tried to back up to icloud but it wont, chugs away and then says a problem with back up, unless i go through itunes on computer with ipad plugged in. Is this a problem which is to be rectified by apple or am I missing something

Then back up the iPad 2 to iCloud. Go settings> iCloud> Storage and backup>
Then hit back up to iCloud.
Once this is done reset your new iPad and set it up again with your apple account and restore the iPad from iCloud when asked to the click on the ipad2 back up that will then show up and your new one will be just like your old ipad2 :)
Remember to rename one of them.

Using UK mac mini in USA

i bought my mac mini in the UK & brought it with me to the US. i bought a basic converter & everything worked fine for a little. now it seems that the computer can't get enough power to start. i borrowed a friends US mac mini adaptor to plug in but that doesn't help either. i can get my computer to work with my adaptor & basic convertor by plugging it into one socket, but if i plug in anything else in the socket above nothing will work. i should be very grateful if anyone can please tell me what it is i have to buy? thanks.

I have moved between the UK USA and back to UK so I feel your pain. When you say "converter" do you mean a plug adapter or a transformer? Most Mac's are dual voltage and just need a plug adapter (UK to USA in your case) but I cannot remember if the mini is or not. I have one but it is in the UK and I'm in France.
You may want to try the Mac Mini power supply with a plug adapter straight in to a wall outlet. 110V should not hurt it if is only for 240V
If you are using a transformer (110V stepped up to 240V) the limitate may be the current the transformer can supply. To have a big current capability, they need to be BIG. Additionally some of the light "switched mode" ones can't supply heavy loads.
If your problem is you plug the power supply into a wall power outlet and it works but stops working if you plug anything into the second outlet above it then it really sounds like a wiring problem.
I am suprised that a US Mini power supply would not work. If there is an apple store near by you might want to ask them there.
