Usability Testing : My #1 "Value-Add" at ASUG Annual Conference & SAPPHIRE

There are dozens of reasons to go to ASUG Annual Conference & SAPPHIRE every year -SAP Education, Networking, Best-Practices and "Real World" SAP Customer Stories and Lessons Learned can easily fill your day...BUT my #1 "Value-Add" every year is to carve-out some time to take part in SAP Usability Testing sessions.
It is a great opportunity to get "Hands-On" with Future-Releases of SAP Products, and help guide the User Experience of SAP tools.
SAP Usability Testing sessions run for 60-minutes, and need to be booked in Advance, as you need to sign some non-disclosure and feedback documents.
You are partnered-up with another Customer/Client of SAP and walked through some different scripted-scenarios (eg. Enter a Travel Approval Request, Run a Report for your Division, etc) based on the Module that you are looking at. There are a couple of SAP staff with you - and they are also recording your Mouse-Clicks, Screen-Captures and everything you say as you walk-through the process.
This Feedback process is REAL - and it actually works to improve future SAP tools. Suggestions that we made about SAP Business Object Central Management Console in 2011, became the SAP BOBJ BI 4.1 System Configuration Wizard in 2013.
Sometimes there are "follow-up" calls (or web sessions) after the Conference where the team will show you how the processes have been changed since your SAP Usability Testing session.

Call for Speakers - 2006 ASUG Annual Conference

The 2006 ASUG Annual Conference will be held May 14 - 17 in Orlando.
The call for speakers has been open for a while now and will close on 11/21. If you have a topic that you would like to present at conference, I encourage you to submit your abstract before the deadline.
I encourage everyone who has given a presentation in the past, whether at Annual conference, at one of the forums or during an outreach call to consider giving a presentation at the 2006 conference. I also encourage those of you who have not had the opportunity to share with the ASUG community to also consider submitting an abstract.

As far as sharing material, ASUG has a non-disclosure agreements, which prohibits me from sharing the materials to the world at large. I agree that it would be nice to share ASUG presentations with everyone here at SDN/BPX, but I am not allowed to do so.

Filter value adds quotation to my set value

This is happening to me from time to time and I am curious if it is a known bug. (SQL2012)
I created a filter on my tablix to filter certain text values from my dataset. For example, I have a device_family column and this is a text value. Sometimes it is a family A sometimes B, C and so on.
On my tablix, I created a filter for the family column and used "IN"; and the expression is as follows: "A", "B", "C"
Note: I did not use any "=" at the beginning.
From time to time, this filter expression turns into this: """A""", """B""", """C"""
This is affecting my report. I can fix it manually by going under the tablix and fix the properties but even if I save my work, there is no guarantee that it will not happen again.
Is this a bug or I am doing something wrong? Thanks,

Based on your description, you are experiencing the problem that the Filter values add quotation automatically whiling add a filter to the “Device_fanmily” column, right?
I have tested it on my local environment, we can reproduce this issue. Based on my research, there are two workarounds to avoid this issue. One is using Split function on the value textbox. Another one is using parameter on the value textbox. The steps below
are for your reference.
Method One
Replace the filter value(“A”,”B”,”C”) by using an expression
=split(“A,B,C”,”,”)
Method Two
Right click the Parameters in the Report Data to select the “Add Parameter”.
In the Name and Prompt textbox type: DeviceFamily.
Select the “Allow multiple values” and “Hidden” check box.
In the left pane, Click “Available Values” to add available values for the Parameter.
In the left pane, Click “Default Values” to add default values for the Parameter.
Right click “Tablix Properties” and select “Filters”.
Click Add and In the Operator dropdown-list select “In” ,In the Value textbox type:[@DeviceFamily].

MDIS Unmapped Values ADD is not Working Throws errors

Hi Experts,
I have a Qualified table where the Non qualifier is a Lietaral Date field.
Qualified Update -> Update
New links -> Create
Existing Links -> All mapped Fields
MDIS unmapped values -> ADD
All is working well,When the Incoming file has exactly the same NOn qualifier as in Data manager, But when the incoming file has some New non-qualifers then it fails with a value Exception...

Hi,
In the Import map as the Non qualifier is the literal date field and in DM i can see they are stored in MM/DD/YYYY format.
The incoming value from the File is also the same format but the Config parameters date format in Import map is different, is this the problem for not adding New dates even though the MDIS unmapped fields are set to ADD..
Also, are Config parameters Specific to Map or Repository Or server!!
i.e if i change a config parameter and save the map.
will the config parameters in all import maps be changed automatically??

Mainframe data loaded into Oracle tables - Test for low values using PL/SQL

Mainframe legacy data has been copied straight from the legacy tables into mirrored tables in Oracle. Some columns from the mainframe data had 'low values' in them. These columns were defined on the Oracle tables as varchar2 types. In looking at the data, some of these columns appear to have data that looks like little square boxes, not sure but maybe that is the way Oracle interprets the 'low values' in the original data into varchar. When I run a select to find all rows where this column is not null, it selects these columns. In the results of the select statement, the columns appear to be blank, however, in looking at the data in the column using SQL Developer, I can see the odd 'square boxes'. My guess is that the select statement is detecting that something exists in this column. Long story short, some how I am going to have to test this legacy data on the Oracle table using Pl/Sql to test for 'low values'. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could do this????? Help! The mainframe data we are loading into these tables is loaded with columns with low values.

repeat your source node. in mapping editor you can view queues by right clicking to mapped element.. selecting Display Queues option.. this will show u your values .
You can also select this Display Queue option for splitByValue option
for example
source--->splitByValue>target
Try viewing your queues to each this step... for splitByValue in display Queue you will see context inserted(grey colour) accodingly

Can't we add new dates automatically via MDIS- unmapped values- ADD

Hi,
I have a qualified table with non qualifier as Date(TYPE: Literal Date).
and Qualifiers as Valid from and valid to.
We have 4 dates currently in Date field.
Our incoming file will have New dates init, So want these new dates to be added automaticaly via Import map.
I have set the Date field property as MDIS unmapped fields as - ADD.
But it is not adding new dates.
When i have Date field with Type TEXT and not 'Literal Date' then the new dates from Incoming file are added automatically.
Is this Normal that MDIS unmapped value - ADD will not add date Type fields???

Hi,
the incoming date format is MM/DD/YYYY.
In configutration parameters it is mentioned as MM/DD/YYYY format.
If the incoming file has Existing dates in MDM then it updates Fine.
But if the Incoming file has a new date then it failes with value exception..
'error message : Type mismatch. Invalid field values.<LF/></Trace>
cant understand this behaviuor of Literal date Field...
Can anyone please help...

I am working on a just started bi production support. There are not much activities as of now but I intend to bring in more work. I need to propose some value addition to the work process apart from just monitoring of chains. For ex. setting up error alert mechanism through process chains, performance improvement techniques etc. Would appreciate if you could share in detail with me more things that could be considered as value adds to clients. As this is an assignment which has started just now, you can look at following additional value adds:
1. Looking through all the Update rules or Transformations and finding ABAP codes written inside which are time consuming.
2. Finding out queries which are not used for last say 4 months. Deleting them with concents of users.
3. Old Process chain log deletion
4. Recommendations for PSA deletion for Full loads & optimizing data base size.
5. Improving Query run time with std techniques.
6. Some Training materials for End users how to use reporting + user Manuals for Data load Monitoring
Hope this will give some points to start up the Value added activities.

Measure values add up if Month filter is added to the Vertical Table

Hello Guys,
I posted a question yesterday but did not get any suggestions and did a work around to achieve what I wanted.

Now another problem started. If I filter the data on Month, the measure values add up don't know what am I doing wrong.
Even If I use folloowing formula it is not working:-
=([Good Count]ForEach ([v_Mnth_Start])) In ([v_Year])
Here are the screen shots.
V_mnth_Start is a Variable with USerresponse. User will
enter just one month “01 or 02 or 03’ every time report is ran
V_Year is again a variable user will enter ‘2014’

Portege M400 and the Toshiba valued add

Hi..
I want to installed the toshiba driver package valued add (power meter tool etc) in my Win7.
But if i try to install it the setup routine says, that i havent a Toshiba Notebook or my Bios is to low for that.
I have Bios Version 3.80 and i doesnt find any newer Bios version for the M400
any ideas about the error message?

I can just imagine your old Portege m400 is not Win7 supported.
Where you downloaded VAP for your notebook model when M400 is not on the list for Win7 drivers?

Method to test if the value is a number or a string?

What kind of value is it? Is it a String and you want to test if it holds a number or characters? If so, use toCharArray() on the String to convert it to a char array and use Character.isDigit() and/or Character.isLetter() on each of the char array elements to test it's type.

I don't know if any of you noticed this,
but under the Technology tab on Appsnet,
Oracle is announcing that they are looking
for "business software users" in the Bay
area to get involved in usability testing by participating in tests at Oracle headquarters. Has anyone tried this?

How to add someone to a conference call half way in another call on a Mac?

Hi Skype Community, I have been using Skype on a Windows machine and it's very easy to add someone to a conference call while on a call. I am having trouble figuring out how to do so on a Mac. Understand that you have to create a Group with the intended people, then initiate the call at the same time. However, I would like to be on a call with Person A first, then add Person B and/or Person C. Is there any way to do so on a Mac? Many thanks in advance. pklai
