Usage of Backend Database
Can 9iAS be used in connecting to/control of other databases such as MSSQL, DB2 like it does to oracle 8i?
The way I use is to run
ps -aef -o vsz, comm | grep <SID>to obtain the memory used by each process.
Be careful : the value is private memory + shared memory. So if you sum all rows, results will be strange.. :-)
You have to know the shared memory (show sga or ipcs) to know exactlly how you have to substract.

Lync backend databases and Lync local databases placement best practices
We are deploying Lync 2013 for 30,000 Lync users across 2 pools in 2 datacenters. Dedicated SQL server for Lync to host all databases for FE, PC and monitoring roles.
Can anyone provide guidance around disk drives for SQL databases and local databases?
Lync backend databases
Planning for Lync Server 2013 requires critical thinking about the performance impact that the system will have on your current infrastructure. A
point of potential contention in larger enterprise deployments is the performance of SQL Server and placement of database and log files to ensure that the performance of Lync Server 2013 is optimal, manageable, and does not adversely affect other database
operations.
http://blogs.technet.com/b/nexthop/archive/2012/11/20/using-the-databasepathmap-parameter-to-deploy-lync-server-2013-databases.aspx
Is it recommended to place all Lync DBs on one drive and logs on one drive or separate onto multiple drives using Databasemappath?
Lync 2013 local databases
In the Capacity Planning Guidance Microsoft
describes that the disk requirements for a Lync 2013 front end server, given our usage model, is eight disks configured as two drives.
One drive will use two disks in RAID 1 to store the Windows operating system and the Lync 2013 and SQL Express binaries
One drive will use six disks in RAID1+0 to store databases and transaction logs from the two SQL Express instances (RTCLOCAL and LYSS)
Is this enough or should we separate the local DBs and logs onto separate drives as well? Also how big do the local DBs get?During the planning and deployment of Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 for your Lync Server 2013 Front End pool, an important consideration is the placement of data and log files onto physical hard disks for performance.
The recommended disk configuration is to implement a 1+0 RAID set using 6 spindles. Placing all database and log files that are used by the Front End pool and associated server roles and services (that is, Archiving and Monitoring Server, Lync Server Response
Group service, Lync Server Call Park service) onto the RAID drive set using the Lync Server Deployment Wizard will result in a configuration that has been tested for good performance. The database files and what they are responsible for is detailed in the
following table.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398479.aspx
Microsoft's technet recommendation contradicts the blog recommendation for Lync 2010. -
Columns are ordered differently at DSO and at the backend database. Why?
Hello,
I've created a standard DSO with key and data fields.
If I watch this table in SE16 I see it in one order but when I go to the backend database (Oracle in our case) directly and query this table I see different columns order.
Any idea why?Anyone...?

How do I connect to the backend database?
I have both the infrastructure and the mid-tier installed on the same machine. I have created an omniportlet with specific connection information (username/password/connection info) to connect to a back-end (customer) database. Is this the correct methodology to use for connecting to the back-end database? I am concerned that when the portlet is moved to a production system then the connection information will be invalid and the portlet will not work.
Also, I have created a dblink to the backend database in the PORTAL schema, which exists in the iasdb (also sometimes referred to as the infrastructure repository, infrastructure instance). The iasdb obviously also holds the metadata repository. I can use this link within a DAD to connect to the backend database. My intention was to use this link to get round the problem of invalid connection info when the development system is moved to production, but the link does not work with omniportlets.
I am confused as to how the backend database is connected to by OAS. Can someone please explain to me how this is done in a system which has separate machines for client, infrastructure, middle (portal) tier and backend database?Managed to figure out that I just have to let tnsnames resolve this issue.

so any advice for these issue ? and what is the effect for these error .
below is the error I got .

Note In a coexistence environment that contains both Lync Server 2010 and Lync Server 2013 and in which the Central Management Service is located on a Lync Server 2010 pool, do not run the

SSL certificates and Web Services Usage inside Oracle Database Questions!
We have implemented a specific business logic using PL/SQL for our client, so we open a file and process each line of this, doing something in the Database and also call a Web Services (Service1) using UTL_HTTP package. Service1 runs in a Windows 2008 Server in the DMZ as Database server.
Service1 is already working, and we can call the service from PL/SQL without troubles.
However, according with security client's policies they requires all Web services be consumed via https including Service1, so we must to follow the procedure established for Oracle in order to enable the calling of service1 via https from the Database.
Our client's DBA and IT Team are concerned about two subjects before to continue to follow the certificate installation:
- SSL Certificates:
1- Can installed certificates in the Database put in risk the stability of the database?
2- Can installed certificates in the Database generate performance issues?
3- Can installed certificates reloading the Databases?
2- Can installed certificates in the Database generate security issues?
- Web services:
1- Can web services calling from the Database put in risk the stability of the database?
2- Can web services calling from the Database generate performance issues?
3- Can web services calling from the Database generate security issues in the DMZ?
Could you please give us any clues, about the possible negative impact related with the SSL certificates and Web Services Usage inside Oracle Database, if it’s the case this impact exists?.
Those are the links describing the procedure mentioned above.

You are correct in that there should be no problem interacting with a Web service that has an HTTPS endpoint as long as you create a wallet and specify it when you make your UTL_HTTP calls, like the PayPal example.
I am not aware of a PL/SQL utility to create a XMLDsig Standard message, but if you find some Java source out there that does it, you may be able to follow a technique I used for a similar use case:

what can i do ?Hi,
Did you solve the issue with the help of the suggest Anthony provided above?
If the issue persists, please check if you update the latest vesion of Lync Server 2013. If not, please update it, make sure after install the update for all FE Servers,
then make sure to update BE Server as well. Then rerun Step 2 Setup or remove Lync Server Components.
Here is a similar case may help you:

I want to know if it is ok when I use sybase
or ms sql as backend database and oracle9i as
middle ware applicaton server ?Depend on your applications.
For example if your are using servlets or JSP, you can. This application uses JDBC for connecting to the database.
But if you try to use iAS mod_plsql you has to use Oracle.

thanks for your pointer
tjIt means that you are doing unindexed search, which may impact your performance.
It usually has two reasons:
a. the attribute is not indexed
b. attribute is indexed, but you reach your nsslapd-allidthreshold.
I have this repeated warning message in my server, but that doesn't affect my application a lot so far. I am just keeping my eye on it. However, it's better to fix it. -

As per my information the HANA has its own DB which is called "IMDB", so if we have oracle or SQL server at the back end for BW or ECC , how can we migrate to HANA.
Plus are there any tools that are available for migration.
Thanks In Advance.
Sheikh Hassan AyubFirst, let's be clear:
1/ Accordingly to announced SAP plans the ramp-up (restricted shipment) of BW-on-HANA installations will start on the 7th of November 2011.
2/ There are no firm plans for ECC-on-HANA availability yet - so this is out of scope for current discussion.
"IMDB" is the name from the past. Now HANA's database is called "HANA database" but you will still find references to "SAP In-memory DB" in documentation etc.
Migration of BW from let's say Oracle to HANA db will be following standard OS/DB migration process - similar to the way you would migrate Oracle DB to DB2: export of the source and then import to the target server. Exactly the same tools.

How to find Pstn Meeting ID from backend Database
Customer has deployed Lync Server 2010 enterprise edition. One of the management requirement is for administrator is to find specific meeting id for specific users and let new users know such that meeting invitation does not need to be forwarded by organizer
or other invitees in the meeting.
Customer mainly interested to find the PSTN Meeting ID for specific conference settings.
The two tools in ResKit allows to find details customer is looking for - using WebConfDataTool.exe and dbanalyze.exe. The WebConfDataToo.exe returns external conference ID and using external conference ID, dbanalyze.exe can return PSTN Meeting ID. However,
both these tools perform remote SQL query to backend database. Customer's backend SQL server is setup such that remote SQL query is not permitted. Hence these tools fails to get the details.
Therefore, here are the questions:
1) In which database and what table PSTNMeetingID is stored? I see a PSTNLocalId but it is not the same.
2) I have looked at the table dbo.PstnMeetingID and stored procedure
dbo.ConfpLookupConferenceByExternalConfId. Is there any existing store procedure? If answer is "Yes", can you please let me know the name? I think a stored procedure which convert PstnLocalId to PSTNMeetingID would work too.
All response is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ketan Shah

Ketan Shah Sr. Lync Support Engineer Lync Managed Services Catapult SystemsHi,
Which database do you find the Meeting ID?
By default, the schedule meeting message is stored in the RTC database of Back End. Please check it.
Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

I know that 9iAS 1.0.2.2 can run against any certified 9.0.1 (Rel 1) backend database, with known issues and exzceptions, but what are the certification plans for running against a 9.2 (Rel 2) backend database. Are there any known issues?
ThanksHi Stuard,
You may want to follow the following steps to install 9iDB with 9iAS 10221.
You can also refer to the early msg disussion in this forum on the same subject.

How to identify the last usage of 8i database?
Hi All,
We are in process of decommissioning our old databases. I need to know the last usage of a 8i database.
Is the any v$ views or DBA views to identify that?
Thanks
ArunaIf you are on Unix , "ipcs -mt" should show the time of the last attach to the shared memory segment.
When a user session connects to the SGA via a dedicated server process, it actually "attaches" to the shared memory segment.
Check the man pages (with "man ipcs") for the command line options on your particular platform.
