Usage Survey

Is anyone aware of any surveys on how many people use which IDE?
Clearly if we asked here most people would say they use JDeveloper. I'm working on generating a comparison and report on the major IDEs and from my exposure they are: Eclipse, IDEA, JDeveloper and NetBeans. I'd like to see some idea of what is the percentage breakdown using the various IDEs.
Perhaps JavaWorld or some other site has run a survey?

If you'll Google for this you might find some past surveys by SD Times and others. But as you noted the answers are different based on who you ask.
One other way is to look at job postings for specific IDEs on sites like http://dice.com and http://monster.com

  • ColdFusion Feature Usage Survey

Please participate in this ColdFusion feature usage survey. This is not a typical feature usage survey for ColdFusion. The purpose of this survey is to understand the usage of some of the old or not-so-popular features of ColdFusion.
The information gathered here will help Adobe deprecate/retain/provide alternate features in the next major version of ColdFusion.
    Thanks for your time.

    Hi Henry,
Am I reading your post correctly, that you want to distribute
    the entire survey
via e-mail? If my reading is correct, then my question is why
    must it be done
    in this manner.
My suggestion would be to maintain the survey on the server,
    distribute an
e-mail with a hyperlink to the survey for the recipents to
    complete, which
also allows for more control over the survey process. Further
    I would do the
survey in three parts (pages) as such.
    -- survey_page.cfm
This page is obvious and would contain the survey questions.
    -- survey_processing.cfm
This page is where all the processing would take place, like
inserting responses into the appropriate database(s), as well
    as
sending automated e-mail notifications when a survey is
    received.
The last line of code on this page would be a
    <cflocation> tag
redirecting the individual to the next page. By using a
    processing
page, you reduce if not eliminate the double record creation
    that
can occur when individuals click the submit button more then
    once.
    -- survey_completed.cfm
This page would let the submitter know the submission was
    completed,
as well as let you provide any additional information you may
    want to
bring to their attention. Could also use this page to provide
    links to
thank you gifts, etc. to show appreciation for taking the
    time to complete
    the survey.
Anyway just my two cents worth on your post. I have done alot
    of survey(s)
and have found this to be the best working process (at least
    for me).

  • Usage survey question

I was told before I bought my UMBP that it was more power than what I needed it for! I'm just using right now for internet and Yahoo however I like the 15 inch screen better than the smaller UMB. As I'm new to computing and still somewhat of a neo Luddite, please suggest what else I can do with my notebook. What is the consensus on websites, programs, applications etc.?
"Mankind has been no gainer by its drudges."
    TE Lawrence

There is no consensus; every user has different needs and interests and, in many cases, work requirements. Assuming from your prior posts that your computer is chiefly for leisure-time use, I suspect you may find iPhoto and/or iMovie fun and interesting to explore, and you may already have a large collection of still pictures or videos that you'll eventually want to organize and manipulate with those applications. Google Earth (a free downloadable application) is endlessly fascinating to me and many other people, and makes good use of your MBP's power if you have a good broadband internet connection. (If you don't, forget it.) You can, of course, buy and sell things online if you're inclined, do your banking online, and research places to go and things to do and see. You can keep track of your investments and your budget, make an insurance inventory of your home and its contents, write your will, design greeting cards and scrapbooks, keep a diary, create artwork, write a book, play games, fly a virtual airplane, learn bridge, typing or Swahili, visit the online virtual collections of museums around the world, design your home landscape or a new house, take online college courses, or carry on audio and video conversations with friends and relatives anywhere on earth for free, using Skype. Need I go on?

    Hi Dave,
you seem to be the only one who tries to communicate with us which is great:-). I think it doesnt make much sense to ask if we develop any new apps in Lightswitch. You should probaby ask something like "would LS be a tool of your choice for a new project
if LS and mainly SL was actively developed and supported?". And my answer would be YES, YES, YES, definitely YES, because LightSwitch (I mean it's SL client) is by far the most productive tool I've ever used. For HTML development there are other tools
and frameworks, more mature and more flexible and most of them are for free. To be honest, LS HTML client is (compared to the SL one) just a bad joke - doesn't expose computed properties, default values, localization is poor...(just few main reasons) but the
main reason why I actually bought LS was that I wanted to get out of that HTML+JS+CSS+bunchofothertechnologies messy hell. Instead of it LS offered a consistent environment with ONE language of my choice (no matter if VB or C# - both are great
anyway). So I didnt hesitate and put my money and effort into it.
Well, from the current point of view it was the worst decision I've ever made in my professional life.
    Best regards

  • Quick Survey on ColdFusion 10 usage

    G'day
Hey, this is not a question and I hope it's OK to post here soliciting traffic to somewhere else.  It is not spam though!
I'm just running a quick survey on people's ColdFusion10 usage.  It'd be helpful to me if you could read this blog article, and then fill in the survey linked to at the bottom.
    Cheers.
    Adam

Per the ColdFusion Blog entry regarding the EULA, Adobe considers four cores to be a CPU - so a quad-core processor is one CPU.  You can run ColdFusion 10 Standard on up to a dual quad-core server under the terms of the license.  Here is an excerpt:
The power of a CPU has grown enormously over the last few years and we now see individual core in a CPU itself being as powerful as a CPU. Few companies treat every group of two cores as a CPU and also change their licensing based on the power of processing core involved. We decided to take a lighter stand on this. Our idea was not to penalize our customers just because we now have cores in the CPU definition. Four cores in a CPU is the norm these days. So we decided to chose four cores to be deemed as a CPU.
What this would mean is, if you are running ColdFusion on a 2 quad core CPU (8 cores in total, which would be deemed as 2 CPUs), you can still continue to run ColdFusion 10 on it.

    -Carl V.

    Hi Gregor,
Was reading your posting and thought that you may be able to address the issue that i am having ?
We are creating URL's for landing page in personalized mailforms. We have a need to include email id of business partners along with the BP id and Campaign id.
We were able to include BP Id and campaign id at the end of the URL but not email id as it is not available in the attribute/object list under BP data (in the left bottom corner from where we drag and drop the objects to concatenate to the URL).
How can we include the email id attribute ? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It would be great if you could mail me at [email protected]

  • Survey on QWERTY slide phone usage

Hi, I’m a cell phone designer and I need your help.

I would really appreciate it if you help me with this.
I need to know if this “rumor” is true and if it is, how many of you get into this.
    Thank you.

  • BackgroundMediaPlayer high memory usage

Hi, I have a problem with WP8.1 Background task with BackgroundMediaPlayer. When I have just the simplest app, which have virtually zero logic in both the task and and app, when the task is started, it takes 15MB of memory. When playback starts, it jumps
to 21 MB, which leaves me about 4 MB (since the limit is 25 MB). This is just ridiculous. (I use MemoryManager.AppMemoryUsage to get used memory).
What I find even more stupid is the fact that when I run the app in emulator, the memory usage is 5 MB on start, after start of playback 11 MB. So I am left with 14 MB, which is ok.
I created a simple project, if you are interested, download it here: http://bezysoftware.net/files/App13.zip It will notify you about memory usage in background task using toasts.
Any ideas what to do? Beside rewriting everything in C++ - I already have an app ready in C#.

    Hi bezysoftware,
Looks like emulator performs better than the real device? I'm not quite understand what do you mean by "playback" start, what's the difference between task start and playback start?
And sorry I cannot repro the issue on my emulator, always 7.7MB instead of 11MB as you mentioned.
I also tested with my Lumia 630, it only use 3MB when start and use 7MB when running, I cannot repro the issue.
I would also suggest you tell us what kind of device you are using, perhaps it related with the test device.

  • How can i calculate the bandwidth usage of my Azure subscription?

    Hi,
I know currently there is no API which provide bandwidth usage details. Is there any other way to find out my subscription's bandwidth usage?
    Thank you!

    Hi,
Please have a look at below thread.
    Here is a snippet.
The Azure SDK doesn't provide any billing or consumption information programatically. As lgorek stated, you can approximate usage with IIS And WCF performance counters. And you'll also be able to use your own logging to track traffic from different users.
However, you won't be able to track bandwidth consumed when users download content from blob storage. Well, you could, but only if all of your blobs were private and you streamed their content through your web application instead of direct links on your web
    pages .

  • Can't Measure Broadband Usage

I am on unlimited usage, but still like to use the Broadband monitor to measure my useage.
But today on checking, I got a page which says because I'm on unlimited I can't look at my usage.
    Why?
How can I get at the figures?

I have been monitoring monthly usage stats for broadband download and upload since January 2014. I acknowledge that I am currently on unlimited package but with fibre option available soon on my exchange cabinet and increased use of 2 tablets in my home, I wanted to access future needs and appropriate package.
BT site states 'do not want  to waste time' monitoring usage! I think this is condescending and they should reinstate link to enable me to monitor for when I change package/service.
I put in an email complaint yesterday and received a call back. The operative stated he would forward my feedback and confirmed that my usage varied fronm 1GB in January but was up to 11GB in August.
I have today received a follow up survey and reiterated my dismay.
Please consider an email to complain... if enough feedback they might rethink?

  • Deploy multiple websites under basic or standard account and charge individually as per site usage.

    Hello Everyone,
I want to host multiple website under one basic/standard account and charge the individual clients as per their site usage, so my question are:
Can I host multiple websites under one basic/standard account?
How can I see billing for each client website or is there any way to check billing per website?
Can I create co-administrator on the basis of websites so that he can manage only his website?
    Thanks, Dilip

    Hi Dilip,
    Thanks for your posting!
I am not sure that I totally understand your question. From my understanding, I think you may want to charge the every websites separately by their usage. And the meaning of "host multiple websites under one basic/standard account" is that you
want to host your multiple website on one basic/standard pricing tier.
    >>Can I host multiple websites under one basic/standard account?
The answer is yes. Firstly, I recommend you refer to the pricing details (http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/websites/). For each pricing tier, all of them have the
description about the limit of website number. For basic and standard tier, they are no limit of website number.
    >>How can I see billing for each client website or is there any way to check billing per website?
Currently, Azure don't support this feature about check every website billing on one pricing tier. But Azure can show every websites usage about every metrics and the consuming information . You could check the usage on the new preview portal. And Azure
billing item details, I suggest you can see this documents(http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/support/understand-your-bill/). The billing item don't include every websites
    billing.
    >>Can I create co-administrator on the basis of websites so that he can manage only his website?
Co-Administrator is users for your Azure subscription. They have the permission for all of your services and included websites service. If you want the user only can manage his website on Azure portal, the one approach is that you can create the new
subscriptions for each users. They can use their subscription to manage their service. The other approach is that you can use the Azure VM . And you can add the permission for users. And your users can login on VM using RDP.
