Usage Times after a Hard Reset

Does anyones else time disappear and stay gone until a full charge after a hard reset?

Yes, that's what happens. Very inconvenient as you have to fully charge to 100% again before the counter restarts.

  • After a hard reset all user profiles are now accessible by every user

I initially had our office time capsule set up with 3 seperate user accounts ("profiles") via these instructions. Thus each user had a login for the time capsule that would then show them a shared folder that all users could see, and then a personal folder that only those logged into that account could see and access.
While I was out of the office a co-worker was having trouble connecting his new iMac to the time capsule, so he called apple for assistance and they had him do a hard reset. The hard reset saved all the profiles and all information in each folder, but now everyone can access every folder. I'm not completely sure of what steps they took to set it up after the hard reset, but now, no matter which account you are logged in as you see:
    -"Shared"
         -(Shared folder)
    -"Users"
         -(user 1)
         -(user 2)
         -(user 3)
So you have complete access to each users folders. Does anyone know if there is any easier way to set the user profiles back up the way they were originally set up by myself, or do I basically have to re-do the whole process (which includes saving and transfering all folders--which is a long process)?

The security of the TC is designed for home networking.. because anyone who has physical access to the TC can easily access anything.. it is simply convenient perhaps to have user profiles.. but a quick 1 sec soft reset and anybody can gain access to anything.

  • Unicode language disappeared after a hard reset on...

recently i did a hard reset on my n8 belle. After a hard reset i can't able to see unicode language such as Bengali language anymore. Before hard reset i can see unicode language on my n8 default web browser. Now what can i do ? Plz help me
    Nokia N8 Official Belle Refresh

The Symbian OS is from the ground up based on Unicode.
A particular phone might not have Unicode fonts with all languages as part of the firmware, but they might be installed afterwards.
A hard reset might (and probably does) remove fonts from phone memory that are not in ROM (read-only memory).
A firmware update might restore them, if the fonts are part of the firmware update.
Otherwise, a firmware update might also cause languages to be lost, if the firmware has been updated to a different language variant after the phone left the factory:

  • How reset a Sim card on iTunes after a hard reset

How to reset a SIM card  on iTunes if needed after a hard reset on a 3GS phone

Not sure what a hard reset is either.  There is a restart, a reset, and a restore.
Either way, it has nothing to do with the sim card.

  • HT201328 Will I loose ios6 after a hard reset to unlock my phone. In other words , will it force me to upgrade to ios7?

Will I loose ios6 after a hard reset on iTunes ? Will it force me to upgrade to ios7?

If you need to restore your iPhone to get past a forgotten screenlock password or to complete an unlock from a cell carrier, then yes, you'll be forced to upgrade to iOS 7. A restore will always download and install the most recent version of iOS your device will support.

  • Drastic reduction in battery usage time after OS B...

Drastic reduction in battery usage time after OS Belle update. Without calls or any application use  - one day! I am using a Nokia C7-00.  Any solution to the problem?

Many folks, including myself have had success with correcting this with a battery cycling...
Basically...drain the battery until iPhone shuts itself off...Then charge using a home power outlet and NOT a Computer USB...
Then allow it to drain again fully until it shuts off...then again Charge fully using Home outlet...
Even though these batteries don't carry memory...this process seems to correct battery issues with the cells themselves just not acting properly...

  • 2TB Time Capsule getting "An unexpected error occurred. Try again" error after a hard reset

    Hi,
I'm working with a brand new 2TB Airport Time Capsule and after I performed a Hard reset as expalined in the forums I'm not able to configure it any more.  I receive "An unexpected error occurred. Try again" from the AirPort Utility.
I'm running Mavericks in my Mac and I'm not sure what else to do.  Any suggestions?

Completely isolate the Mac and the TC from the network.. plug the TC lan port by ethernet to the Mac.
    Factory reset the TC.
Factory reset TC Gen 5 or AE Gen 6
Unplug your AE/TC .. hold in reset and power the TC/AE back on.. without releasing the reset.. wait until status led flashes rapidly.
Make sure in the ethernet settings you have ipv6 set to link local and the dhcp set for ip. It should give you an address of 10.0.1.2
Open the airport utility, using the top menu.. File, Configure Other.
Type in the address, 10.0.1.1 .. no password is required at this stage.
Click ok and the main setup will open.
Set all the names short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Set the TC to the right mode .. dhcp+nat for router or off (bridge mode) for bridge.
Set wireless to create a wireless network.
No luck then the TC is faulty and needs to be returned.

  • *SOLUTION* After Install, Hard Reset

    Hi Everyone,
I just got off the phone with Apple support and their servers are down. So, that is why you can't download!!!
But, somehow, I was able to download it through iTunes. But, after it installed, my phone wouldn't activate thus making it a brick.
So I called Apple support and they told me to do a hard reset but somehow I did a restore (MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP!!!), she said it still should work.
So it went through the process of restoring and I was taken back to the activation screen and I was able to get through it and now I can use my phone. :]
Just thought I would share to those who couldn't activate.
    Zill

This is a significant upgrade and not for the faint of heart. I installed itunes 11.1, then backed up my iphone, then downloaded and hit upgrade the iPhone (v5). The install stuck with a 'connected to itunes' graphic on the phone and a failed to complete message in itunes (error 4005, which is not listed anywhere on the troubleshooting page).
    Heartstop #1
Then I spent half an hour getting 'Apple's servers are busy and the phone can't be activated messages.' <sigh>
I restarted the phone and got a 'found a phone needing to be restored' message in itunes. I hit restore and it reset the phone to the original factory settings (except now with ios7). Heartstop #2
I then hit 'restore from backup' (and FORTUNATELY I had made that backup) and it restored my settings and apps, now on ios7. If I hadn't backed up, I'd be totally up the creek with anything since the last backup.
As I said, not for the faint of heart and I'm sure Apple's support is going to be swamped for a long time. I feel badly for those who don't have as much technical experience.

  • Wrong usage times after firmware update?

My usage times used to reflect my usage perfectly, prior to the recent firmware update. Ever since I updated its like my usage times keep going up even when my phone is "sleeping". Currently my phone displays 1+ day of Standby and 1+ day of Usage on one full charge - even though I have probably used it about 6-8 hours total.
Here is a picture of what my phone currently displays from one single charge, all of the usage settings were reset right after the firmware update when I charged it. http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/911/img0166sd4.jpg

It looks like I have found a solution.
I again connected the Airport via ethernet cable, included all the settings as before, changed the channels of the router and the Airport device to 4 AND also changed the security settings in the router from "WPA/WPA2" to "WPA (TKIP") (whatever that means...). The last one was only a try but in the end it worked out. The airport device was instantly recognized and my music can now be streamed wirelessly again...
    I now hope it lasts...
So for those out there who are facing the same problems, try out this one.
    Cheers
    Axel

  • Jump in Young GG (ParNew) times after CMS-concurrent-reset

In one of our automated test scenarios following a CMS-concurrent-reset, young GC times dramatically increased. For instance, prior to the CMS reset, average young GC times average 0.15 seconds; after the CMS reset, times would spike to as high as 40 seconds. With our high-load scenario this does not happen. The difference in data load between these two tests is approximately 360:1.
Usually when this occcurs, the young GC times would stay consistently high (between 30 and 40 seconds). However, in one of our most recent test runs, something else happened. Young GC times would spike and then over a period of time gradually decrease back down to tolerable levels (over a period of 3.5+ hours). The log snippet below illustrates this behavior.
The application itself is a custom server built on Java 1.5.0_06 using Java 1.5.0_06erdist1. The hardware is a Dell PowerEdge 6800 running Windows 2003 Server 64-bit w/SP1. The server has 32GB of RAM, no swap file, and 8 logical CPU's (4 hyperthreaded Xeon processors). The system caches large amounts of data in a variety of strong, soft, and weak reference maps is using SleepyCat Software's DBJE for data storage.
We're working on getting memory dumps, but right now, we're thinking it might have something to do with large arrays in the old generation either being reallocated, or references back to the young generation that could be causing this. There is a slight possibility that there is also a large object being allocated in the young generation, although this seems like it is less likely (the average data packet is less than 1K in this test scenario and most object allocations are usually less than 4K in size -- byte arrays usually).
We're also looking at possibly testing with the latest 1.6 beta to see if the problem goes away, or at the very least we can profile the app when it gets into trouble without having to turn off CMS.
Does anybody have any thoughts on what might be causing this, or has anyone else run into something similar before?

Might it be possible for you to check if the same behaviour reproduces
with the latest (b76?) Mustang JVM?
If so, let us know and we'll look into this more closely.
PS: Could you also pstack the process once it gets into
one of these long scavenges, and see if you find a lot
of "block_start" calls at the top of the stack (during card
scanning). It's almost certainly some performace pathology
related to block offset table accesses during card scanning
in the presence of large contiguous blocks would be my
    guess.

  • My ipad quit backing up and it cannot find the file.  I tried putting on another computer after a hard reset but it says it cannot back up there either.

My ipad quit backing up because it cannot find the file.  I have tried a restore and hard reset and adding itunes to another computer and putting it on there but it still will cannot add the ipad to the new computer and back up.  I have an iPad (not iPad 2) and 5.01 OS.  It appears that my iPad is not fully fuctional since I updated to the new OS which is when my ipad stopped backing up.  I lost data too and some apps don't work anymore.

Have you previously synced photos to the iPad, as that occasionally causes the 'missing file' error. If so then try deleting the photo cache from your computer and then re-try backing up - the location of the cache, and how to delete it, is on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314.
In terms of apps not working, if it's happening on all the apps that you've downloaded from the App Store, but not the Apple built-in ones, then try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted.
If it's happening on all apps then try closing them all completely and then see if they work when you re-open them : from the home screen (i.e.not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Life after a hard reset?

I have spend all afternoon looking for a solution and am desperate right now. After hotsync my Palm to my pc, my Treo650 ended in a loop(?). Had to hard reset and lost all data (contacts, calender, photo, film, etc.) from my Treo. Ofcourse I hotsynched my pc to my Palm but entered a new username in my Palm. The situation right now is that my Palm remains empty and the former user (still me) has all the data on the pc. I hotsynced and followed just about every suggestion I could find but still no solution.
My question is quite simple: how do I get the data from my pc onto my Palm? Hopefully someone will recognize my problem and knows of a way to help me out. All help is welcome. Thnx Jakje

If you are just trying to get your pim data back then you can export the data from your old username and import into the new one, this will keep any corruption in the old username.
To export go into each pim and go to file export
Calendar: file export it will be a .dba file and import into new username
Contacts (be sure to go to edit and select all) then go to file export it will be .aba and import into contacts in new username
    and so forth...

A reset and restore are two different things.
You're restoring the phone as new - so no your pictures won't come back to your phone, if you sign into icloud - maybe your photo stream pics.
You should import your pictures in your camera roll to your computer Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support  then after setting up your phone as new you can sync those pictures back to your phone using iTunes iTunes: Syncing photos - Apple Support
to get pictures back from icloud, you would need to restore back from your icloud backup.

  • Hotsync after a hard reset

I want to just sync the parts I need to run my t/x. I want to delete the program I think is not letting it run.

    Act as if you upgrade:
    - hard reset
    - locate backup folder under palm desktop folder tree
    - rename to backup_old
    - sync, select old id. This will bring back PIMs (Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Memos) but no settings nor programs
    - reinstall applications one by one AFTER making sure they are compatible with the target device.
