USB 1.1 & Protected WMA on Zen Touch quest

Im thinkin about getting a Zen Touch and i have a couple of questions.
The first im sure i can get an easy yes to, does zen touch support usb .
The second however, is a question that i often find avoided on sites and put in fine print.
Many companies advertise supporting WMA format, but not the <EM>protected</EM> WMA format that music stores such as Musicmatch sell.
My question obviously, is does the Zen Touch player support protected WMA files that i download from Musicmatch?

'Yes' to all three questions:
USB . compatible - yes.
Can play WMA protected DRM - fairly certain it does, but I've never used it myself - anyone want to confirm?
Shuffle all - yes - there's a button the front labelled 'random' which shuffles all the tracks on the player.

Protected WMA to ZEN

Hello,
I have purchased some WMA music that is protected with DRM.
I have the creative zen 4gb that can officially play protected WMA, but how do I do that?
I'm trying using WMP to synchronize music but with those files I just get "Error" and the files are not even transferred they just don't start to.
What's the process

The MSN Music store stuff should be Plays for Sure I would think but as for the other stuff I'm not sure. You might have to look at the license off the MSN Music store to make it what you bought is allowed to be transfered to a different device. I've never bought music from there so I'm not sure. The other solution might be if it allows you to burn the tracks to a CD, playable in a CD player, then you can just rip those tracks onto your computer without any DRM.

USB 2.0 driver needed for Zen Touch 20

Iam a Linux user and seem to have read that special drivers are necessary for the Zen to be recognized (on Windows, obviously). That is not how USB is supposed to work. Can anyone confirm that special software must be used for any USB aware computer to recognize the Zen?

I didn't really understand your question but I hope this clears out any doubt you have. I use both OS's Linux and Windows. Under linux I managed to use my zen touch by installing the gnomad application. I didn't had to install anything else to use it, I was using suse and before installing gnomad all the hardware drivers were already installed by suse. In windows the only thing I had to install were the drivers that came with the zen touch's cd or the one available at the download section. to be able to transfer data to it you will need to install the nomad explorer, for music you can either use window media player 0 or nomad explorer. Besides that nothing else is needed to be installed. There has been some post complaining about some usb adapters not being able to detect the zen touch, what SSR recommends (and me too) is that you install the latest drivers for your motherboard and if it still doesn't work buy a PCI usb 2.0 adapter. I just bought the Zen Touch, I love it. I cant figure out thow to use the software it came with called Creative Media Source so I can been using Windows Medis Player 0 instead. How do I name files? How do I transfer songs from the Creative Media Source software to my Zen Touch?, for some reason it is not clear
Also If I am ripping from a Cd I burned myself How do I get the song titles on the Zen Player, put them in by hand?Thank you!

If you have the driver installed on your PC, WMP0 should recognize your Zen Touch as a device (you can see this in the "sync" tab). I would suggest having the Zen Touch connected to AC power when you have it connected to the PC because otherwise the battery drains rather quickly.
When you insert a CD, the tracks will show up on the "RIP" tab of WMP0. You can edit the track information to your liking and then click on the "Rip Music" button on the upper right. You can also edit the track information after a CD is ripped - you do this by going to the "Library" tab and then right click on the track you want to edit and select "Advanced Tag Editor" on the pop up menu. Also from the main menu of WMP0 you can select "Tools" --> "options." Here go to the "Rip Music" tab to select how you want your music ripped (bitrate, format mp3 or WMA, etc.). While you are at it, check out the other tabs, particulary the "library" tab for the options you want.
Steps to transfer songs: . Go to the library tab. 2. on the "Library Options" button drop down, make sure "Show List" is checked - this will display a panel on the right hand side. 3. On this new panel on the right, there is a drop down at the top where you select "sync list" (default is "Now Playing List"). 4. Now drag and drop the songs/albums you want from the library to the "sync list" panel (you can also clear the list by selecting "clear list" from the button drop down at the top of this panel). 5. Click the "start sync" button at the bottom right. 6. You can see the progress in the "sync" tab. 7. Once the sync is done, you can see what is on the Zen Touch by browsing on the right hand panel of the "sync" tab.
Final note: I do not recommend using the automated sync from WMP0. This is meant for MTP/PlaysForSure enable devices so won't work (well) with the Touch.

Two Zen Touch Questi

Is there a firmware upgrade available for the Touch that allows for access to its hard dri've via My Computer through a removable dri've? If not, will there be?
How much does the remote with the FM tuner cost for this model?

I don't understand all the comments regarding dri've letter access. Is this driverless access so you could move files around from computer to computer? If not, then I really don't see the disadvantage of using Nomad Explorer. My Zen Touch shows up in Windows Explorer as "Nomad Explorer". If I wanted to copy files to it, I can (I don't). In my experience, using Windows Explorer for music files leads to a really screwed up stucture on the player with corrupted track numbers, etc..
I also did not see any CNet article promising dri've letter access, but since it is not important to me at all, perhaps I overlooked it. I DID see, however, an alleged Creative promise in "October" (assume that is now October 2005?) for MTP support and Janus DRM support.
This support is what I was expecting in the recent firmware upgrade, which must have been pretty technical as I don't really notice any change in my player.
Somebody said the font is smaller on the screen---I don't remember how big it was before, to be honest.

why do you need a optional fm wire remote to access the radio or voice recording? will creative be making a firmware upgrade for this?

Personally I think it's a great idea in principal. I don't want an FM radio, nor recording, so I don't need to pay extra. It's much better to have these things as an add-on and keep away from the player hence reducing the size.

I have been using the .0.03 firmware, but recently I read http://forums.creative.com/t5/MP3-Players/Zen-Touch-Custom-EQ-Frequencies-Wrong/m-p/64205" and wanted to try out the .00.06 firmware. Comparing from memory and using custom EQ, lows and mids sound much more clear now while bass is a bit more on the light side.

Zen Touch Replacement char

I sent my Zen Micro back for its 2nd RMA, but Creative sent me a Zen Touch instead. Only problem is that I have no charger now, because the Zen Micro charger seems to be incompatible.
I am aware that you can use a Nomad Jukebox charger, but I need a UK version and they are out of stock.
Does anybody here know if any of these uni'versal USB chargers will work with the Zen Touch?
Any other suggestions?

OK, thanks for the help. I think I'll keep the Touch, as it took 9(!) weeks for Creative to finally get me a replacement and I don't fancy waiting that long.
I don't know why the Zen Micros keep dying (I've lost two!) - do you think it's caused by a head crash on the HDD?
Has anyone tried a mains USB adaptor - like this one?

Zen Touch - WMA Backward Button Prob

I have realized that with WMA songs my Zen Touch crashes when I press the back button to relisten a song. In WMA DRM Songs protected It happen every time, in WMA normal songs some time, but not always.
There is any way to resolve this problem that was not format the player? Is mine or I have to way some firmware upgrade to resolve this problem?

Thank you for your information, I'm in the same situation. I'll hope that in a future a new release of the firmware resolve it. But on my hand I have only about 30 songs that probably I'll burn to a CD and re-rip with MP3 format.

Zen Touch connecting to a hi-fi through a USB p

Hello all,
Just a quick question, has anyone managed to get there Zen (Touch) to play through there hi-fi using a usb port on the hi-fi.

I've *heard* that some people have had success connecting MTP/PlaysForSure devices to various systems, Xbox 360s, etc. The system has to be made for this functionality, which theoretically works with any MTP device. However, Creative didn't design their players with this in mind (it wasn't available yet I think), so we don't officially support it. However, please do post here with the result if you try it!

Zen Touch 40GB: USB connection dies mid-transfer.

I just received a brand new 40GB Zen Touch. While transferring a group of songs to it (whether via MediaSource or Media Player) it successfully transfers a few before freezing, waiting for a minute, and then claiming that either the Zen Touch is no longer connected or is busy. The only way to remedy the problem is to unplug the USB cable and reconnect - after which the same cycle is always repeated (a few songs, then freezing...).
Can anyone advise?

Compatability with PCMCIA USB 2 & Zen Touch

My laptop only has USB . built in so I have recently purchased a PCMCIA USB 2 card. It appears that the card is functioning correctly and there are no problems when used with my digital camera, printer or mouse. However, when I connect the Zen Touch it starts working initially...the player says that it's docked and it seems to communicate with the computer (bringing files up in MediaSource etc...) but as soon as I try to transfer files to or from the devide the computer crashes. Firstly MediaSource stops responding, then Windows entirely freezes meaning I have to hold the power down button to reset the machine.
Please, please, please can someone help me with this problem...it's driving me insane!!

I know it works properly on USB but I dont own a desktop PC to try try it on there. There was a suggestion that it may be that there is not enough power getting to the Zen from the USB socket but the software with the USB card shows the power levels and it is being supplied plenty of power.
I am becoming more curious about what is going on here becasue now I am unable to transfer music through the USB sockets on the laptop. MediaSource start to transfer then brings up and error saying that some other application is using the Zen or something along those lines.
Anyhow, I am now stuck because I dont have any other way of transferring music to or from the player.

Solved Zen Touch unresponsive buttons problem, USB still dosen't work tho

2 months after my Zen Touch was dropped and the buttons became unresponsi've, I finally figured out the solution and it works beautifully now.
Unfortunately the USB still doesn't work and I was wondering if anyone might know whats causing that?
My guess is damage to the board itself, which in that case I won't be able to fix it ;_;
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Seems to be a common problem with these. How did you get the buttons to respond? Do you know of a place that does repairs?

Zen Touch, WMA V

I can see the Touch plays WAV, MP3 and WMA files. From experience, I also know it plays various bitrate files of WMA. Can it play WMA VBR? I can't find technical specs on the player to find out not just what format it plays but what varieties of each format. Thanks.
