USB 1 to USB 2

I have a titanium Powerbook G4. I have heard that there is a plug in board (side slot) available that will allow my USB 1 to be upgraded to USB 2 and thus speed up my connection to my external Iomega hard drive. Does anybody have any info on what this may be and where i might get one from?

Hi, jakdor. A USB 2 CardBus adapter is what you're talking about. It slips into the CardBus slot on the left side of your Powerbook, and provides one or more USB 2 ports protruding half to three-quarters of an inch from the casing. Your original built-in USB 1.1 ports aren't affected, but the new ports operate at USB 2 speed.
Be aware, though, that the CardBus slot doesn't provide power to bus-powered devices on those ports; any device you connect to them must be externally powered. So if your Iomega drive has its own AC adapter, you should be all set, but if it can't be externally powered, you probably won't be able to use it on most adapter cards.
There are, however, some adapter cards that come with a short cable to connect them to a built-in USB 1.1 port on the back of the Tibook, solely for the purpose of drawing power from that built-in port. There may be some bus-powered USB 2 devices that will be able to obtain sufficient power through such an adapter card, when the USB link is in use, to work properly — but don't count on it without testing before buying.
I always advise people not to buy any bus-powered hard drive that doesn't offer the option of using external AC power instead. Too often such drives demand more power than the bus can supply, even when plugged into a built-in USB 1.1 port.

My mother recently acquired a digital camera. She acquired it from a second-hand store, which did not include an interface cable or software. The manual (and the USB port on the camera) indicates that a male-male USB cable is necessary for photos to be copied to the hard drive.
I was not successful in locating such a cable at any local electronics store (I assume such a cable is now out-of-date). I purchased one from a seller on eBay. The brand is "e circuit electronics".
Upon powering up the camera with the cable connected to it and the computer, the following message appeared:

It is a driver for the V20 model, whereas my model would correspond to be a V2755, as referenced from a list of other Vivicam models when during a search at the Open Drivers web site.
From the system requirement about the card reader you gave me, it will not work, as this system is running 9.1. I am hesistant to upgrade this computer to 9.2, as I have experienced system unstability with that version, with even the 9.2.2 update applied.
In the mean time, I have e-mailed Vivitar regarding this issue, but have as of yet received a reply.
I am not certain as to other specifics to give you, in order to solve the Software Update problem. Please elaborate.
Yes eww, the computer in question is able to fully connect to the Internet for all that I need. I am fully aware of the difference between a computer connecting to the Internet, and a computer connecting to a digital camera. I have 15 years of Macintosh experience.

Thanks for your reply. Realtek audio works only in playback. There is a stereo mix in the mixer but the recording controls are not operable with no sliders in the mixer for any recording option. Slider controls appear to be grayed out. Can't figure out how to enable them. Downloaded newest drivers to no avail.
The M Audio control panel has no apparent option for recording stereo mix. Adobe ignores the sound from the DVD or CD and shows flatline.
I'm trying to record the sound from the DVD not rip the track.
When I go to Audio Driver Setup and select Audition 3.0 windows sound, there is no input device installed.
I'm thinking of going back to a decent internal Soundblaster card like I have on my 8 year old machine I am replacing.

Is it possible to use USB webcam + USB mic simultaneously?

I would like to use a USB mic (Blue Snowball USB) and USB webcam (Ligoitch Quickcam) together simultaneously, because I understand the one is good sound and the other is good video for live internet broadcasting of music.

In some folks' version of the world, you have plenty of ways. YOu have the aforementioned services, you have iCloud, all you need is an internet connection and you're good to go. And that works perfectly...if you always have the internet.
If you want more non-internet dependant ways, then the best way to let Apple know is to send them feedback. They don't monitor or respond to this forum (Beyond removing rule breaking posts) but they do at least log feedback. However, the lack of a file manager will always be an obstacle. There are some apps out there that have at least a pseudo file manager - as in the ability to move documents into multiple other apps. I have Readdle Docs which I can use to download and move things around with, but again, back to the internet or wireless.

My BlackBerry PlayBook won't charge when connected to the computer via the micro-USB to USB cable

Can anybody help me? I don't know why but lately, when I try to plug my BlackBerry PlayBook into my Windows 7 laptop using the micro-USB to USB cable, it connects to my computer without any problems but it won't charge. Instead, I get a notification in the top left corner saying "Unable to charge battery with connected sorce". I have four USB ports and I'm positive that they work just fine because I plugged in some of the USBs I own into each of those four ports and they recognized the USBs without any issues. Does anybody know how I can resolve this issue? Thanks.

The notification is by design and was added to clarify that USB charging is not to be relied upon as a main method of charging. Instead RIM's good intention has caused confusion.
USB (by design) can not provide the amount of power the device needs while it's being used. Technically, it is still trickle charging but the screen has to be off (and I'd turn off Wi-Fi too) since they are high power draining items. I have verified that the PlayBook does indeed still charge but it takes much, much longer than plugging it into a wall charger or rapid charger. In a crunch it will work but the computer has to be on the entire time. A full charge would take many hours.

i just ordered a micro usb to usb adapter, but will have to wait for it to be shipped to me.
would be great if this would allow for connecting video and then the also using a handheld usb controler with laser and slide switcher!

that software still requires not one pc/device, but two.
if uou have ever done seminars, then walking aroind carrying this pb to controll the ppt on a pc is not eeally friendly. not that it is a bad suggestion, nust doesnt fit what the challenge was on this thrwad....which is to be able to have you pb be the terminal and still be able to use a standard ppt controller for presenting.

　このエラーはハードウェアが対応していない旨のエラーですね。
　USB-8473(s)使用時のエラー-1074388723に関して
　エラー番号がLabVIEWと違いますが、ダイアログに出ているHEX値が同一であるのと、
行いたい内容が一致しているので、結論としてはハードウェアが対応していない、ということになります。
　USB-847xシリーズで使用できるAPIは以下のリンク先に記してあります。
　Which NI-CAN Frame API Functions does the NI USB-847x Device Support?
　ハードウェアの機能が使用できないとなると、後はソフトウェアのタイミングで制御することに
なります。(もしくは外部のカウンタボードからトリガを受けて同期させて。。。少々面倒になりますね。）
　ご検討ください。

Epson USB or USB not appearing as an option in Printer Set Up Utility

I am trying to get my Epson Stylus RX510 (RX500 outside Australia) multi function printer to work with my MacBook Pro. I have the latest, correct Intel drivers installed (3.0aEs and scanner software CSPC3_PCF_OSX_27w41). When I connect via USB and select "Add" in Printer Setup Utility, the printer shows up but the drivers do not appear.
The "Auto" option is greyed out.
There is no option for USB or Epson USB available. I think this is the key but...
Having spent days trying to resolve this, speaking to Epson and Apple techs, I still have no luck. This is what I have done so far:
- Unplugged the printer from the MacBook
- Reset Print Setup Utility
- repaired permissions
- in Command "I" I have selected "Open using Rosetta"
- uninstalled all the old Epson drivers
- reinstalled the new drivers
- run Disk Utilty (no problems found)
- run printer setup repair
- reinstalled Mac OS X without the old epson drivers and gimp drivers
- reinstalled the new drivers again - no luck.
- went to the Epson USA site and downloaded the drivers for the RX500 instead of the RX510 - still no luck.
- cried!!!! (kidding - but almost made everyone around me cry).
Incidentally, printer is working perfectly when connected to my G4 with the old drivers, so it isn't a printer problem or dodgy USB cable.
Epson tech says there is nothing wrong with the drivers and I have done everthing correctly.
Apple tech says I have done everything they would tell me to do and to post it in discussions. Here's hoping one of you gurus can help me please.

Thanks - I did already try PSR but on your advice just had another go and below is the log, wherein I suspect the answer lay (for any of you mac guru's anyway). Do I need to find and install all the missing files to get my Epson printer working using the Epson drivers (ie. don't want to use CUPS)? If so can I load them from the Mac OS X install discs without having to reinstall Mac OS X all over again?

What's a good hardware set up for a solo musician? USB pedal USB keyboard audio interface MIDI interface?

I am new to Main Stage. I have not bought any hardware interfaces yet because I don't know what will be the most flexible in the long run. I would be using the Main Stage's innate synths and keyboards, drums, an acoustic/electric guitar, bass, harmonicas and vocals. What type of hardware would you recommend? MIDI/USB keyboards? MIDI interface? Audio interface? USB pedal board controllers?
Would guys help me with specific suggestions and pointer on how I can make a good choice based on my needs?

EMU USB 0404 USB - Audio Problems

Hello forum!
I recently bought an 0404 USB and I am having problems with the audio quality.
Prob 1 - When I plug a guitar into input A, the sound switches between clean and a distorted/clipping/phased kind of sound, and I also get some clicks. I have tried adjusting the ground switch position and the buffer size for the input, but with no success. The sound switches from clean to "dirty" (if that is the correct term) and back at random and it is almost impossible to get a clean sound to record with the equipment. Can anyone help me solve this?
Prob 2 - when I do get a clean signal - the playback is of an inferior quality and there are audible clicks (nothing to do with the metronome) more like a static noise.
Prob 3 - I can't adjust the sample rate in the EMU control software - it only lets me select 41khz. I have only used it with Cubase so far which I believe supports a max sample rate of 41kHZ- but I don't know if it will be the same with Sonar. Note interface is definitely running in USB 2.0 mode as it states this in the EMU software controller.
Prob 4 - since installing the software for EMU 0404 my computer has only been starting in safe mode (I have to adjust the display settings etc) and it automatically restarts when I shut the computer down.... Im running the computer in XP SP2.
Any help you can offer is appreciated. Happy recording guys
PS I have already sent these questions to the EMU product support guys, but they are taking a while to get back to me.

When you use ASIO driver mode, for samplerate settings, E-MU follows settings done in software ... as like in Cubase LE (you can test this by leaving the E-MU control panel open while changing the samplerate setting in Cubase).
You set the samplerate through Cubase Project Setup:

Just use native ASIO drivers in ASIO capable software (there are Sonar LE, Cubase LE and Live 4 Lite bundled w/ the card) with this device. Remember also set the ASIO latency properly (one instrument w/o plug-ins in path ... you should be able to go as low as 2ms).
If you like just to play guitar through E-MU interface then, just use ASIO capable software like VSTHost for input/output (you'll need to load least one VST plug-in into VSTHost to get audio through ... maybe Voxengo SPAN or Sonalksis FreeG is the one w/o effect in audio).

Hp mini will not boot from usb and USB not listed as a choice

I have an HP mini 110-1116NR and it crashed. During a system restore it stopped working so now there is no operating system on it.
In BIOS there is no choice to boot from USB (when my disks come in mail from HP)
Also when it kinda starts im at the DOS screen....system32.exe???????

Mac mini shut down with USB and USB Over Current Notice

I just spent the day dealing with my mini shutting down when I connected my iphone. If I left it connected at restart, I got the infamous USB Over Current Notice. I tried all suggestions and finally used an apple connector instead of the one I had been using. Everything OK again... Other comments? It was very time consuming and frustrating.

Do you have other devices connected to USB ports ?
Try to connect with a powerde hub in between.

Portege R100 - can I reinstall WXP with USB floppy & USB drive?

I have recently corrupted my R100 through a virus attack. In spite of belatedly cleaning things up with Norton it now goes very slowly and I believe the only way forward is through a total XP reinstall.
I have the original recovery CDs and a USB floppy drive but not a PCMIA CDRom. As luck would have it my USB CDRom is broken. How do I get out of this situation? I am about to throw out an old desktop and would be happy to use the XP retail on the R100 if needed. Moreover is there any way to start the format & install process from a bootable floppy and then install the bulk of the OS from a USB drive - having been populated previously with copies of CD contents? Desperate people dream up desperate methods!
I have read some other threads on XP recovery issues but they are not entirely coincident with my circumstances. Any help on this front would be very gratefully received.

If you can get the setup files onto the R100 HDD using a FAT32 partition, you can install Windows from the HDD after booting from an MSDOS boot disk. (MSDOS cannot see NTFS drives).
You can use a 1.8" USB HDD Adapter to copy the Setup files to the R100 HDD from another PC. The Adapter wouldn't be expensive.

NEIN, ich habe keine Kopierfehler.Der Fehler ist Immer vorhanden. meine Wiedergabegeräte sind 3x WD TV live und ein Med8er (wegen der 3D Wiedergabe)wobei ich auch bemerkt habe das die 3D wiedergabe über das GBit LAN auch nicht ohne ruckler geht, deshalb liegen die 3D Filme alle lokal auf dem Med8er, alles andere streame ich über GBit LAN - das ist auch störend..... für hilfe wäre ich dankber....LG Gyu

Also ich dachte mir das so, das ich mir jeweils 3tb Clouds hinstelle, wenn die voll ist, mit ca. 600 Filme, stelle ich mir die nächste dazu, die Festplatten stehen bei mir am Dachboden. Ich möchte keinen Server pc hinstellen, sondern lediglich NAS. Jedoch sollten die Mediaplayer schon fähig sein mit den NAS Lösungen des selben herstellers in beliebiger Anzahl zu kommunizieren, nur tun sie das nicht. Ich glaube gar nicht das es was mit der Anzahl der Clouds zu tun hat, sonst würde die neue 4tb Cloud im standalone Betrieb über die wdtvlive's ja funktionieren. Das tut sie aber nicht. Im Gegensatz zur 3 Jahre alten 3tb Cloud, die funktioniert immer. Ob ich nun den Router direkt verbinde und die Cloud dranhänge oder über einen zusätzlichen hub, es geht einfach nicht mit den neuen nas'n .... Aber sehr wohl mit der mede8er1000x3d, dort läuft alles problemlos.
Ich nehme halt nicht eine größere NAS sondern Stelle einfach eine weitere hinzu. Über Freigaben ja problemlos einzurichten, funktioniert am pc, am Mac, am MacBook, nur nicht an den wdtvlive's,
Hat wer Interesse an 3 wdtvlive Boxen? (PN) technisch und optisch einwandfrei... Angeblich.... Weil sonst könnte ja jemand helfen.....
