USB 10 key pad and USB Mac Keyboard- 10 key barely works

Where in settings can I go to try and solve the problem of my Targus 10 key usb pad not working on the Mac OS??
There is no driver from Targus. I'm a Mac newb so I need some direction on how to hardware troubleshoot.
FYI.. the 10 key works just fine on the Windows XP side.

If you plug in a USB 10 key keypad and the system tells you it does not recognize your keyboard, you may need to change your keyboard layout.
system preferences > international > input menu > US Extended
I check the box to show the input menu in the menu bar and check both the US and US Extended keyboards, then I can switch between them. The input menu will show up as a flag to the right of the volume. Many foreign language fonts require different keyboard layouts to access all the special characters associated with that language.

Why is my numpad acting like an arrow pad? (Aluminum Mac keyboard - wired)

I'm using an Intel iMac Core2 Duo and I've just attached a *brand new aluminum wired Mac keyboard* to it.
My problem is: the numpad at the rightside of the keyboard does not function as a numpad. Instead, +it's functioning as an arrow-pad+! When I tap "4", the cursor travels leftward. When I tap "6", the cursor travels rightward. When I tap "5", the it activates the cursor on screen. When I tap "9", my cursor travels diagonally rightward.
I simply can't get my numpad to function as a normal numpad! I've tried plugging in an older Mac keyboard (white keys and clear plastic), and the same issue arises. So I guess it must be an iMac issue?
I've tried searching through my system preferences for the mouse and keyboard and nothing seems to be amiss....
What do I do? It's really quite annoying, because I want a normal numpad!

Oh ... I figured it out already!
Instructions:
Press the Option key five times. (You must first turn on this shortcut in the Mouse pane of Universal Access preferences.)This turns on/off the numpad function so that it either activiates the mouse or just acts as a normal numpad.

sounds like a corrupt database or index
the glitch is your home folder and mail folder, esp look at syncservices
I'd post in the mail or Lion forum where you will find similar issues being discussed.

Mac Keyboard Functions Don't Work

I have just discovered that the Mac keyboard has a very useful feature: press and hold a key and all the options for that character show in a little pop-up window, i.e., accents, tilde's, etc. This works in all my other programs (Word, Excel, Pages, Mail, etc.), but not in Adobe's Illustrator or InDesign. I do a project every summer that has lots of foreign names and words, and I am constantly having to ferret out these unusual characters, so having them all available right on the keyboard would be a huge time saver for me, so I was devastated to learn that Adobe's programs don't support them (when I press and hold a keyboard key in InDesign, it just repeats the character over and over as long as I hold the key down, which is the way the keyboard worked several Apple systems ago). Is there a preference or something somewhere that I am missing?

While InDesign and Illustrator don't have access to the Apple feature to show special characters, you have an even better feature in InDesign and Illustrator—the Glyphs panel. It lets you view every character (glyph) in every font on your computer. You can insert a character by double clicking it. In InDesign, choose Type > Glyphs to open it up. Use the font menu at the bottom to switch fonts. Choose from the Show menu in the middle some collections of special characters for different purposes.

My mac keyboard (wired) sometimes not working

Sometimes when turn on my mac either from sleep or from ground the keyboard doesnt work. it's a mac keyboard wired with numeric pad.
It only happens after i haven't used the mac for many hours
Any idea what it could be?

Is the Mac disconnected from the Mains/AC power when OFF?

Can't use my ten key pad on my Mac keyboard when I am in VMWare which is where all my financial systems are.

I recently moved from the PC to the MAC world. Most of my work is accounting and financial so I purchased the keyboard for the Mac that has the ten key pad. It works great when I am in the Mac environment. When I am in VMWare, which is where all my work is, the ten key pad doesn't work. I keep looking for a setting or something but I am unable to make it work. If I can't get this resolved I will have to go back to the PC. Any ideas?

There is a difference between the passcode and the sync key.<br />
The passcode allows to setup all sync parameters with a single code on other devices.<br />
To enter the sync key (and user name and password) you need to click on "I don't have the device with me" at the bottom of the "Add a Device" window (Click Connect).

Backspace not working on Mavericks (External USB Mac Keyboard A1243)

After upgrading to Mavericks OS, my external keyboard's backspace key has stopped working. I have gone through my keyboard settings and unable to find any problems. The backspace works fine on another computer. Any ideas what the problem is?

You can stop iMessages from going to the other devices by:
On your iPad: Settings > Messages > iMessage off
On your Mac, open Messages and then on the menu item named "Messages" open Preferences > Accounts and sign out.

What do you have in System Preferences, Keyboard under "Adjust keyboard brightness..."?
What happens when you push F6 to increase the keyboard light intensity?
Normally, if you have that checked, the keyboard lights only come on if the ambient light level is sufficiently low. They go out when the light level gets high enough. (Sorry if I am stating the obvious.) The sensor is at the top of the display, where the camera is. If you cover the camera lens, do the lights come on? (You may have to turn up the light intensity with F6.)
Try unchecking that preference box.
If nothing else works, try resetting the NVRAM.
If that doesn't work, you probably will have to take your machine in for servicing.

ATI HD5770 and 2008 Mac Pro - Only DVI Port works

I went through 4 ATI Radeon HD 2600 video cards since 2008. Enough is enough. I bought a ATI HD5770 and i hope this is the end of it.
However, I have two monitors and I am unable to use the second monitor.
The main monitor is hooked into the DVIPort. It is a 24" NEC. The cable is a VGA to DVI.
I have another small 15" NEC monitor and I have a VGA to mini adapter into the mini port on the video card and it will not work.
I use both 10.5 and 10.8 on this machine and have no luck on either operating system.
When I plug into the mini port, the monitor in the DVI port tries to act as the second monitor yet the Mini port monitor will not turn on or activate. To elaborate, the working monitor will switch from the startup monitor and display as if it were a 2nd screen.

yes. 'tis tricky. I'd say see if mirroring is turned on, but I suspect it is. acorrding to apple, the monitor on the dvi port is fine. However, the 2nd one needs a mini displayport to VGA adapter. It ought to be active, rather than passive. the DVI I'm presuming is a Dual link one?

Imac and mini mac audio speakers don't work

Unable to get external speakers to work .I cannot get speakers to work on my imac ( Version 10.6.8) desktop. Also cannot get external speakers to work on Mac Mini (version 10.5.8) I'm using Bose speakers I purchased at an apple dealer. Headphones work only on both only .Very frustrating. I see many have similar issues, but I've yet to see how to resolve the issues on both computers.

While a 0.375mm differences doesn't seem like much at first glance, it seem to be enought to keep some iMac's from switching to Headphone output.
