USB 2.0 Card Issue After Waking - Solution?

I know this issue has been discussed a number of places, and I have read a lot of the threads. I was curious though if anyone has found a solution to the issue of USB cards not working after waking from sleep. I have read that the thumb drive seems to do the trick, but for me I get no response, it still will not work. As you all know this is a problem, and renders my iPod useless b/c I can't dock it or charge it, etc.
Point being - any solution yet? What about if the thumb drive idea doesn't work? Could it be b/c the thumb drive is not formatted specifically for the Mac (ie FAT32)?
I just kind of wanted to get the solution(s) out there in one nice place.
Thanks!

Thanks, but deep sleep is not the problem. I've read a lot abotu that but have never experienced it. I am referring to the new prodblem induced by Leopard where the USB card doesn't have any power after wakign from sleep. There have been many discussions of it, and I just wondereed if anyone has a solution yet. The flash drive solution that works for some does nto work for me.

  • Boot Camp, Expose, Trackpad & Dock issues after waking from sleep 10.6.1

    Hello,
    Here's my setup:
    13" MBP (Late 2009)
2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
500 GB HD (Seagate Momentus Non G-Force version)
    OSX 10.6.1: 367 GB
Boot Camp MS Windows 7 RTM: 123 GB
All of this started yesterday. After pressing the power button to boot, the MBP would give me the Mac boot sound, and would not recognize that the "Option" key was depressed. This would cause the system to boot into Windows 7 due to the Boot Camp default setting. After trying to get the system to boot into OSX 5 times, I ended up changing the default boot OS to OSX. The MBP now boots into OSX, but still does not recognize the option key on bootup so it will boot into the Boot Camp default selection only.
The following Problems are plaguing my MBP after waking up from a sleep state when running OSX 10.6.1:
The trackpad is performing right clicks no matter how many fingers are used to click the trackpad.
The dock changes from the Un-Magnified setup to a Magnified setup.
Expose takes on average 1 to 2 seconds to switch from the tiled view back to a selected application. The animation is slow, and the windows are not properly displayed after selecting an application.
Except for the Option key not being recognized during boot, these problems go away if I restart, but come right back when the system enters the sleep mode. Help!!!
    Andy

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Issues after waking from sleep

    Hi
I have 15" MBP SR 2.4ghz. I have noticed recently that my machine either doesn't show anything on it's display after waking by opening the lid. Also, sometimes it wakes up fine but then some programs don't launch properly or the cursor jitters along as I move it. I'm hoping its a buggy 10.5.2 update, as I never had this problem with 10.5.1.
    Any ideas?

    Hi
Having the same issues, and I have to do a hard reboot to get the display on again. Trying to figure out a pattern of when it happens and when not, will post back if I have any joy.

  • Macbook Retina with Mountain Lion issues after waking from sleep.

Macbook Retina with Mountain Lion has the spinning beach ball of death after waking from sleep a few times. Anyone else seeing this?  A fresh boot is very quick, but waking from sleep lags at times.  Then after a few times the spinning beachball of death appears and nothing is responsive making me reboot the machine.

I've been suffering from this too, and am currently trying this:

Seems to be tied to this 'Power Nap' feature.  I tuned it for 12 hours instead of 24.

  • Airport Issue After Waking From Sleep (White Unibody MacBook)

Hi all. On my new white unibody MacBook I have an Airport issue that always occurs after I wake the MacBook from sleep. I'm wondering if any of you have a similar issue and/or might not how to solve it.
Basically, when I wake the MacBook from sleep, it connects to my wireless network (and to whichever network I happen to be using at the time). A few seconds later, it will drop the connection, an exclamation mark will appear on top of the Airport icon on the menu bar, and when I click on the icon I see "Alert: No Internet Connection."
Then, if I just sit and wait, eventually Airport will connect to the network. But I have to wait -- selecting the network from the available list or turning Airport off and on doesn't help. And sometimes waiting isn't enough -- I sometimes have to go to "Create Network ..." and start all over to get a connection.
I've upgraded to 10.6.2 and the issue persists. I'd appreciate any help.

My wife's Macbook has EXACTLY the same problem and I've been through dozens of suggestions trying to fix it and the problem still persists.
The problem started right after I upgraded to Snow Leopard but also installed an Airport Extreme router and WPA2 wireless encryption. I've deleted all the networks, changed the order to put the Airport as the highest preference, deleted all the keys on the keychain, ran DiskUtility, all to no avail.
I'm not sure if this is somehow related to the Airport Extreme or occurs with any router. Also, have another MacBook Pro (unibody), and it does't have this problem connecting to the same Airport Extreme.
The other factor is it is intermittent --- and doesn't always fail. Rebooting the Macbook or the router will get it to re-connect, as will shutting off and turning on the Airport several times. But that's not a solution to the problem.
Apple needs to pay attention to this as many people are now reporting the problem.

  • Issues after waking up from sleep, macbook pro

Macbook Pro, retina display, mid 2014, 2.6 GHz i5
    Yosemite 10.10.1
This problem started about 4 days ago. If I let my computer sleep for a over about an hour, one start up I have lots of issues. It is hard to explain what it is, so I'll explain what I am capable of still doing. The cursor works as in I can move it, but I cannot click anything. Also there is no "hover over" capabilities, like if I hover over something on the dock it usually won't say the programs name. The windows I had open are still there, but I cannot minimize or close them (as I cannot click).
This started like 4 days ago, I have tried a few fixes. One of which was upgrading to Yosemite, I was running Mavericks when it started. The problems persists. I then talked to someone from apple who suggested a SMC reset, but the issue is still there.
The only way I have been able to "fix it" is if after a start up the problem is there, close the lid for a minute, then open it back up. The issue usually then solves itself.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • New Macbook Air - display issues after waking from sleep

I have a 1 day old Macbook Air 13" (2013) --- when I wake the machine from sleep, the display shows horizontal / vertical bands for a couple of seconds before clearing up to show the desktop. Please see attached picture. This doesn't happen 100% of the time but I've been able to repeatedly replicate this at intervals. Does this seem like a hardware problem or an OS related issue? Thanks.

  • Issues after waking up with low battery-  FileVault?

    Hello,
Its not a problem - its rather description of a problem that Ive encountered .
Recently Ive migrated my MacBook Pro 15inch mid 2012 to Yosemite. Meanwhile started to use FileVault.
Two days ago Ive put to sleep MacBook with a about 5 % of battery.
On the saturday morning Ive open by laptop and wait...wait...wait and nothing happened. Connected power and wait( but it never was the case in previous releases!!)
After few minutes of waiting Ive push power button - I can hear sound of fans but nothing happen.
Then once again after 5 minutes pushed power button for a 5 sec  and Ive heard Startup sound and still nothin appeared on the screen.
Ive left box and for about 5 minutes Ive received on the screen window with message like " please choose which method of reset password you would like to use " (or something similar )
Ive been quite surprise as Ive did not request pass reset:/
SO Ive reset password and after reboot still nothing appeared ! Ive tried to boot in safe mode, reset pram etc.. and since then with no help.
With broken heart Ive tried to run reinstall mode  (cmd +R) and it got me to the menu - then it once again prompted me with the message " please choose pass reset method " and then reboot and after that Ive been able to get into disk utility ! Ive made disk scans ( both for boot partition and main disk) - no errors, then run a few times repair on both disks - also - prompted " all fine " and then reboot my Macbook.
Ahhh- that was triumph ! My mac was up and running !
My educated guess is that something happened with password stored for my disk volume. After my laptop drain battery in sleep mode  password was lost but due to some bug it did not ask to enter pass by hand so it initiated something strange!

Oh, I wasn't thinking power iteruptions outside your Mac, I was suspecting internal problems... it's the only thing I can think of that covers your symptoms.
Hibernation saves the state of the computer from top to bottom, & since it's fine after a short sleep, we can assume I think that it's being saved to Disk fine, & not likely changing on the Disk, but I think the RAM must be getting flaky waking after a long sleep.
I think I'd give this a try, then reboot without reinstalling...

  • Windows 7 Restart issues after waking from sleep/hibernating on y430

I've installed windows 7  and installed all drivers but one driver that no one on this message board has solved yet (it is detected as an unknown device - ACPI/CPL0002) When I wake the computer from sleep and hibernating the computer cannot restart properly.  It would stop the hard drive after windows has finished the shut down process but the power lights will stay on. I then have to hold the power button down until the system powers off.
I have updated my y430 to the latest bios but this problem still persists.
Any idea on why this is?

  • Internet issue after waking from sleep

    Hi,
When I wake my computer for being asleep, I can connect to my home wireless network, and the router shows that the internet connection is fine, yet webpages won't load in either Safari or Firefox, and I can't connect to Skype, MSN etc until I re-boot.
Any suggestions about what could be causing this minor, yet annoying issue?
    Cheers,
    Paul

When my Macbook wakes from sleep, I have the same issue. But all I have to do click on the Airport icon and reconnect to my network. I found that changing my network's password to WPA (instead of WEP, which I constantly had issues with) works every time. I would strongly advise against using a WEP password.
Ever since I installed the most recent update and changed my wireless to a WPA password, I've had no more problems connecting to the internet.

  • Toolbar issue after waking from sleep

When I wake my MBP Retina up from sleep, the top toolbar has recently been appearing a dark grey color instead of the normal translucent color. This problem is quickly fixed when I three finger scroll to another screen, but it is still annoying. I have had screen flicker issues recently so could this be related?

  • Graphics card issues after updates.

I've recently started experimenting with the 3D capabilities of Ps CS6 so was excited for the recent update. Frustratingly this update has removed all the functionality of 3D because of the vRAM of my graphics card (256mb). I'm in no posistion to replace my laptop and am gutted that all the 3D tools are unavailable having used them perfectly well days before. Is there any way to download a version of CS6 previous to the update which still allows me to work with the 3D functionality?!

I also think it is a bit strange that far more powerful 3d painting and modeling applications work without a hitch on 256mb vram (or even 128mb) systems, and Photoshop's 3d functionality misbehaves with less than 512mb vram. I understand that's what you get when you slap 3d on top of a 2d application that never was intended to perform well in 3d. Corners have to be cut somewhere.
On the other hand, Photoshop's 3d painting is quite limited and slow as it stands, so it is probably a better idea to use a different application that is more optimized for this task. IamRoss, try 3dCoat, Cinema4D (BodyPaint) or zBrush instead. Or for free: Blender, which is also a great 3d tool, and supports 3d painting (though not neary as powerful as the others - they're working on improving it).

  • USB doesn't wake up after waking MacBook Pro from Sleep Mode

I have a problem with my new MacBook Pro.
I attach an Apple 20" cinema display to the macbook pro USB connector and then I attach my apple keyboard and mouse to my cinema display.
When I wake up my macbook from being asleep my mouse and keyboard are not activated. I have to unplug my cinema display USB connector and unplug my keyboard from the display and then plug them all back in again to get them to re-activate.
Anybody know why this is occurring, its very frustrating each time my machine goes to sleep

In that case, does the problem still exist when starting up the MBP in Safe mode and then putting it to sleep and awakening it?

    Hi ohmghimire,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you're seeing unexpected behavior when using USB devices, try resetting the SMC on your MacBook Pro:
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
You can find the article with these steps here:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
