USB 2.0 external HD - once was visible, now it's not...

Hello folks,
I plugged in my Acomdata 80G USB 2.0 and it was working as it should have, except that it kept telling me that I could be using USB 2.0. My understanding was that I had already installed 2.0, so I figured maybe the drivers needed updating....so, using the MSI Live update, I installed the latest drivers and BIOS.
Since then, the HD is inaccessible and appears in the Device Manager as USB Mass Storage Device with the yellow flag. The device status in the properties box is 'This device cannot start. (Code 10)'
Can anyone assist me in fixing this??
Thanks,
sjcecran

try uninstalling it from the device manager (double click it and uninstall the driver).
Then disconnect it and plug it back in.
Are you using a USB port straight off the board or through a USB hub/front port etc?
Thanks for your reply...
I did try uninstalling it from the Device Manager and plugging it back in...also tried finding it with the new hardware wizard. Using either method, the device is found but I eventually get the same error message as I outlined above.
Originally I had the device plugged into the optional USB 2.0 bracket that connects to JUSB1, JUSB2, OR JUSB3, which apparently are the 'front' USB connectors. However after plugging it in to the USB port straight off the board, I get the same problem.

  • External H D was NTFS now it is 'RAW' WHAT TO DO?

I have a Western Digital 2T External HD. It "pooped-out" some time ago but being always hopeful I keep it connected to my computer. It continually says the drive must be formatted . . . it took me a long time to reconcile myself to the fact
that I would have to let all of my information (almost the full 2T!) go - it is lost to me! So when I finally clicked the ok go ahead FORMAT button the stupid thing will not or cannot be formatted. Tonight it appears to have changed to RAW. HOW can I reformat

  • External Hard drive was working, now "Original Item..Can't be found"

I have a Air Port Extreme and an iMac and two Laptops in my Household. We also have a External Hardrive connected to the Extreme that we can all access. However one of the Laps tops suddenly stopped accessing the hard drive. It is listed in the Finder, but when we click on it it gives us the following message..."The operation can’t be completed because the original item for “PASSPORT” can’t be found." (Passport being the name of the Hardrive). Any ideas what is happening here? The other computers are working just fine.

Well maybe you can directly connect to that hard drive and use /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility on it and see if can do the Repairs on that disk. The hard disk might be going a little or get a bad block so Disk Utility might be able to repair it.

Last week Firefox began "crashing" about once a day. Today it started not responding about 5 minutes after I sign in, no matter what site I am on. My son could not do any school work (online program) because it kept freezing. My computer is protected from malware and viruses (supposedly) I've downloaded the latest version of Firefox and ran a scan, nothing shows up. Please help. Thanks!

  • Why isn't harry potter prisoner of azkaban available on itunes.  It was and now it's not.

Prisoner of Azkaban was unavailable last fall, but was eventually available for download. I didn't download then, but now that i need to download it is unavailable again.  Why all the changes?

If it 's no longer in the store then it's probable that the film studio have removed it - whether it will become available again only the studio will know

  • Text messaging on playbook was fixed now it's not

Text messaging didn't work with the playbook  software update. No icon. Not found.  I found out that it was my phone. I went through the process to fix that. It worked for a day or so. No messages today. Opened the text messaging app to find a notification. Text messaging disabled due to IT policy. I don't even know what that means or who's policy it is. So I rebooted phone and playbook. I texted myself from another device. Phone got the text. PlayBook got the splash on the text message icon. Opened text messaging to get the "not found " page. Why is it this way?

I'm having the exact same issue.  BB Bridge to Text Messages worked at first, then received an error regarding a policy prohibiting that option, and now I get a blank white page that says, "Not found".  We recently upgraded our MS Exchange server from 2003 to 2010.  We also replaced our BES 4.1 server with a BESX 5 server.  My PlayBook is not governed by the BESX server, but my BB Bold 9650 is. So far, no luck finding an answer as to why this is occurring or a resolution.
You will have to talk with you IT department, it is a policy on the BES that was not set properly to let you use the texting mode on the bridge

  • Epson Printer was printing now it is not printing through AE

I have an AE connected by ethernet to a DSL 4 port modem. To this AE I have connected an Epson i80 and Apple powered speakers. I then have a PowerBook G4 (10.4.11) and a MacBook Pro (10.5.6) each connected via ethernet to the DSL modem.
This setup has allowed the two laptops to print to the i80 without any problem for 4 years. Last night printing worked fine, today after coming home from work and plugging in to the network, neither computer can print.
iTunes can connect with the speakers, the wireless connection works fine if I unplug from the ethernet and turn on Airport on either, or both, computers.
The AE can be seen by the Airport Utility on both laptops.
Any suggestions on how can I restore the ability to print to the i80 printer via the AE would be appreciated.

Ok...so I have solved my problem. The new router was blocking port 631. I forward this port to the desktop ip address and all is well in windows printing land.

  • Facetime on iPad was working, now it's not. What's up?

    Hi all,
I'm so frustrated, I'm going bananas. I've read every forum post I can find and can't seem to figure out the problem. My husband and I are on separate continents and we've been keeping in touch through Facetime. Then, on Tuesday (which happened to be my birthday - cue small violin), we could no longer connect. I can Facetime other contacts though. Just not him. And he says he can Facetime other contacts. Madness!
When I call him, it rings and rings and rings on my end. He says on his end, it shows as "connecting" but then never connects. When he calls me, there's no notification, no ringing. Nothin'.
I have an iPad 2. He uses his Mac to FT with me. He also has it on his iTouch, I think. (I also have an iPhone but it doesn't have Facetime.) Nothing has changed on my end. (I upgraded to io5 but that was only yesterday, so wouldn't have had anything to do with loss of connection that started Tuesday.)
Anybody experience anything similar? Any guesses?
    Thanks so much!

For anyone with similar challenges, here's what we did that worked (we're not sure whether both solutions were required or only one):
    1. I changed my DNS to 8.8.8.8. (you can read about why in other posts)
    2. My husband turned off all other Mac equipment so only his computer was on when he tried to Facetime me.
    We're digitally reunited!

  • Leopard installation was quit, now Mac does not start up

The installation guide warns that "installing Mac OS X on your current start up disk, let the installer finish. If you quit you may not be able to start up using your current Mac OS X start up disk."
This is what happened to me. How can i fix this?
    Thank you

If your getting to the log in window you are NOT on the OS Install Disc..
Just make sure you have the disc in the drive and Then shut down by holding the power button down... Then restart holding down the "C" key... If the disc ejects.. keep holding "C" and pull the disc out one inch then gently slide back in.. Keep holding C.... You will get a few screens then the install screen... STOP.. go to utility's menu at the Top of window... open "disk Utility".. highlight your FULL HD.. Click the button to the right ..OK Heres the deal.. I would erase/ re format the HD.. You will resolve any issue with the bad install.. But remember you will have a blank HD so if you didnt back up.. Well... Then Do your Install.. Nice and clean ... Best of luck....

  • OSX can no longer find USB 3.0 external drive

My macbook air was able to read from my USB 3.0 external drive a couple weeks back when I last plugged it in prior to yesterday. Yesterday, when I plugged the drive back into the computer though, my machine was unable to detect the drive at all.  It was not in finder, the desktop, or disk utility. Nor was it visible with the "diskutil list" command.  I plugged the drive into a separate windows PC, which was able to access it fine.  I scoured online for some tips, and ended up trying to use the usb prober tool, which didn't work.  The drive has its own power adapter, and is not bus-powered.  It turns on whenever I plug it in, but my machine is not able to detect it. I do not have another USB 3.0 device to test the macbook air with, but I have used other USB 2.0 external drives, which are detected by my macbook air fine.  I updated to 10.8.3 before I plugged the USB 3.0 drive in, but I am not sure if that would be the cause of this issue.  Are there any other tips that I could try that may remedy this issue? Any advise would be much appreciated with this predicament.

Try restarting your Macbook then plug the USB External Drive again and see if that works.
if all else fails - try doing a SMC RESET and see if that sorts it out for you.
    Good luck

  • Input/Output Error USB 2.0 External Hard Drive

I recently started having problems with an external hard drive setup that I did not have prior to trying to setup the drive to be compatible with Time Machine.
The hard drive enclosure that I have has 2 bays for two SATA drives. I have used this enclosure without any problems until I tried to get 1 drive to act as the backup drive for Time Machine and the other to be storage. I formatted them using Drive Genius. I used the option for GUILD or GUIL which it said was the better format for using with Time Machine.
The first problem I ran into since reformatting the drives is I got an "input/output" error the first couple times I connected the drive via USB to my Mac. I could still use the drives but I got weird errors every once in a while like "input/output error" or "device was not ejected properly" even though the device had not been unplugged.
Now the drives will not mount using OS 10.5.5. The drives show up when I open Disk Utility, but I cannot get them to mount. I have ran Disk Utility First Aid, and it says the drives are fine. There is one error that shows up when I run the "Repair Disk" feature. It reads "Invalid content in Journal". But Disk Utility also says "The volume was repaired successfully".
I have seen some posts when I do a search in google about this issue and it seems this is a known issue. Every suggestion I see says to insert your Tiger DVD and reformat the drive using that and the problem will be solved. The only problem with that is I have a lot of important files on the drive that I cannot lose. I had the files backed up until I moved them to the new drive a while back. Now I do not have a backup because I was in the process of switching to bigger drives and erased the old drives after doing so because everything was working fine.
I am hoping someone out there may have some suggestions (other than erasing the drive) to get my dives to mount so I can transfer the data off to another drive and reformat after.
    Thanks,
    Paul Rugg

I have similar problems with my USB external HD. Reformatting or repartitioning will not solve your problem. I've tried that 2 times already. The problem will reappear. My HD was running great until last month, when it suddenly without warning disappears from disk utility and the mac altogether. It not only dismounts itself, but also ejects itself, while still physically connected and the power is still on. The HD has its own power supply of course and is directly connected to one of the iMac USB ports. I have erased, repartitioned, disk verified, rebuild spotlight indexes, cleared PRAM and NVRAM, but nothing has solved the problem.
It is application independent, and not related to like iTunes as another post had suggested. Nothing to do with Mac applications. It seems to be USB related.
Messages in the Console seem to indicate something wrong with 'USB transactions passed their expiration point' and 'USB cannot enumerate something', but these statements are a bit cryptic to me. Perhaps an Apple system engineer can someday shed some light here.
    thanks much for any assistance.
