USB 2.0 stopped being recognized by USB 3.0 port

Hey all,
Two days ago, I was syncing my iPod Classic (USB 2.0) with iTunes and I also had my USB 2.0 Time Machine drive plugged in (I do not think it was backing up at the time), both of these devices were plugged into the USB 3.0 ports on my 15" MacBook Pro (Mid 2012). All of a sudden, my MacBook informs me that both devices were disconnected. For the next 30 minutes, these devices connected and disconnected sporadically. I tried restarting my MacBook multiple times, I reset the PRAM multiple times, I reset the SMC multiple times, I booted into Windows 7 (I use Boot Camp) and both devices show up as unrecognized. They do not show up at all on the OS X (10.10.2) side of my computer. What's strange though, is that all USB 3.0 devices work perfectly. I tried an old USB 2.0 flash drive, didn't work.
Anyone have any thoughts? I have searched Google and these forums for the last two days to no avail.

To plug a 2.0 into a 3.0 you are using an adapter? Is this where the problem is? Even with the old flash drive? or did you also try using the 2.0 ports on your MBP? The adapter could be bad or the cables for your external devises. You did the steps you need to do to correct the problem. Other then that it would be a hardware problem. And you would need to take it to an apple store to be checked out.

  • Verbatim USB Flash Drive Stops Being Recognized

All of a sudden the other day, my Verbatim USB flash drive just stopped being recognized... it had been mounted, a TM backup made to it when all of a sudden I got an error stating that it had been improperly removed... it was like I had yanked it from the USB port...
I tried unplugging it, reconnecting, rebooting, moving it to another computer... no luck... it doesn't even show up in Disk Utility
Verbatim has agreed to replace it under warranty but I'm wondering if there's anyway that I can mount it again to retrieve the TM backups...
    Any thoughts?
    Many thanks!

My Verbatim 32G flash drive appears on the left, but it will not allow me to repair it, mount, or eject it. It will not show up in Computer like it normally does. I have tried restarting it, turning it off, and doing Command+Option+r+p, which did not work. I believe I caused this problem by accidenlty ejecting the flash drive before safely removing it. How could I make it appear on the Computer again?

  • Do I need to reinstall Lion because my iPhone stopped being recognized by...

Do I REALLY need to reinstall Lion because my iPhone stopped being recognized by Image Capture, Aperture and iPhoto but still shows up in iTunes?
I was on the phone with Apple Support with 5 different Advisors for more than 3 hrs today and we were not able to resolve the problem (yet). Although the problem is frustrating, it's always kind of a pleasure chatting with the Advisors. (I said kinda)
Approx 2 weeks ago, iPhoto, Aperture and Image Capture all stopped recognizing my iPhone. Oddly, iTunes has no problem recognizing the iPhone. Here are just a few of the things we tried but didn't get the apps to see the iPhone again:
    - Removed and deleted all photos on camera roll using a windows machine
    - Removed all other photos synced between my iMac and iPhone
    - Made sure an image existed on the camera roll
    - Recorded some video on iPhone and then tried to get iMovie to recognize device
    - Restored (gulp) the device followed by a restore from back-up
    - Restored again (double gulp) but this time to factory settings and kept the device as a "new iPhone"
    - Logged on as different users
    and on and on.
Also, after noting that my machine refused to send a systems report to my Sr Advisor (Jimmy) at Apple, he suggests we re-install Lion (ack).  But when we went to access the Recovery Partition we realized it wasn't there.
    No recovery partition?
Not sending system reports to Apple?
Several Apps not seeing iPhone while others are recognizing the device?
So now I wait for Lion to arrive on one of those nifty Apple thumb drives for me to try re-installing ;-(
The following screen grab shows my iPhone in iTunes but not recognized by Image Capture. URGH!

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider. You may have to leave the machine there for several days.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • EA6500 stopped being recognized by wireless printer

Last week, my EA6500 stopped being recognized by my wireless Canon printer.  The laptops and ipad can still see the router.  How do I fix this?  I have tried router power off, and, complete reconfigure as if new.  Has not fixed the wireless printer issue.  THe printer can see other networks
Also, one suggestion was to do a 'reconnection' to the printer by first pressing a wps button.  Does the EA6500 have this button?

    Hi jjohnsen8!
In my case, what I did was disable the Simple Tap feature on the router. It's also running on 2.4 GHz so it may have interferred to the network. On the Linksys Smart WiFi, click on Wireless >> Simple Tap >> the select OFF.

  • IPhone 4S  stopped being recognized by my PC. I've tried the other Apple Forum guide, nada.

    Hi All,
I've read the other guides and the Apple 101 regarding PC not recognizing the iphone.
It's missing from Device Manager. Uninstalling USB drivers does not help. No other phone works, my phone works on other PC's though.
    Syn
I ejected the phone - downloaded some songs on PC itune, updated my library and then tried to plug my phone back in (USB). Nada. It does not show up as a device in explorer.
I've tried it on another computer and it works fine. Nothing is wrong with the chords. Other devices are not being recognized on my PC.
    I've tried this forum's solutions: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/iphone-4s-is -not-recognized-and-no-driver/a8232b2f-5f88-4820-b81e-5d7f9c9691f5 --- it was no help
I've tried this link: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1538 -- nothing worked.
Chords are in working order . I've tested on other computers.
As you can see - drivers missing and not displaying as a device. Software installed numerous times - I even deleted the library files and related in other folders for other software. I've pushed autoplay back to default, and reset all it's settings for recognized devices.
    Please help!

  • HT201302 iphone stops being recognized by pc during photo transfer

I use my iphone 4s for taking work related photos of products, and it is easy for me to take 300 photos in one sitting.  Every time I connect my iphone to my pc (windows 7) with a USB cable and try to transfer the images, I manage to get a few files transferred before the error messError Moving File or Folder:  A device attached to the system is not functioning"
    Things to know:
    - My iphone software is up to date
    - Itunes does not automatically start when I plug the phone into the pc.  This stopped working after updates were done earlier this year, which were so detrimental that I ended up with apple replacing my iphone.
    - My iphone is brand new as of Feb 2013
    - I have tried automatically transferring the photos via "Automatically Import..." function on Auto Play menu, it does the same thing.
    - Every time I plug the iphone into the computer, I get a message that "This device can perform faster if I plug into high speed port".  This is a new message, started a couple of months ago.  I have checked, and according to my computer, all of the USB ports are high speed.  ???
This is super frustrating, as it takes me HOURS to do something that should take minutes.  HELP ME!

How old is the computer? Is Windows up to date? Actually, any Windows 7 computer should have USB 2.0 ports on itso I don't see why you should be getting this error unless you are connected to a USB hub instead of directly to the computer. If you are not using Windows Import for the photos, what are you using? Are you an administrator on that computer? iTunes can be set not to automatically start when you plug the phone in, but it sounds as if you have a driver issue for the USB port.
You can try and uninstall and then reinstall iTunes on the computer. Do this with the phone disconnected from the computer and follow the instructions in this support document exactly http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923. Once you have reinstalled iTunes, reboot the computer and connect the iPhone. It should download the latest USB driver for the iPhone. See if this helps.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless that has stopped being recognized as powered on

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless that has stopped printing.  Troubleshooter identifies that the printer is not powered on, when indeed it actually is powered on.  I have tried unplugging the printer and resetting the network information as well as rebooting my computer all to no avail.  The printer is being recognized by the network without any issues, just for some reason it doesn't think it is powered up.  I very much appreciate and thank you in advance for any information and advice.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @margarethpayne
I read about the scanning troubles you are running into with your Officejet 8500 Wireless, on 10.6.8. I have some ideas that could help.
    In order, try this:

  • Help! my ipod stopped being recognized by itunes

I plugged my ipod in (i have a pc). it updated, and had finished updating (stopped saying do not unplug)...
then, out of boredom, i changed the name on my ipod icon in itunes, and then i looked at my ipod and everything was gone, all songs, all everything. so i unplugged it and plugged it back in again and it said this:
"cannot recognize ipod. use ipod updater application to restore ipod to factory settings."
according to the support website, there is nothing wrong with me changing the name on my ipod, and it shouldn't have caused everything to be erased. so, after poking around on the help website, it suggested i reset my ipod, so i did, and that didn't work. i looked up instructions on how to do restore it to the factory settings, and it had me download the software updater, but that didn't do anything, and it still doesn't register.
also, i just looked in the "about" option on my ipod, and it says that somewhere all of my songs are on there, because i have 3.7 free gb, and 18.5 used. which sounds about right, except that all my songs are gone.
    help, please!!!!

oh also. i forgot a few things. first, itunes completely stopped recognizing my ipod, so i can't change my name back to what it used to be.. every time i try to plug it in, the same error message comes up.
and, also, when i said "it had me download the software updater, but that didn't do anything and it still doesn't register" i mean that its still not being recognized by itunes.
when i looked at the link for restoring factory settings, it didn't make sense to me. i couldnt do the first steps because itunes isn't recognzing anything... i downloaded the updater it told me to, but it wouldn't let me do the whole "start" "run" thing, and i'm not really sure how to do that or how its relevant to what i downloaded, so if whoever helps me out on this could either clarify those instructions or give me different ones, i'd appreciate it.
    sorry this is so long-winded.
I just got this last week, i'm kinda sad/annoyed that i'm having problems already.
thanks for any help in advance.

  • USB-6509 Stops being recognized by Windows 7 device manager.

    I am currently using a USB-6509 under Windows 7.
On a freshly formatted machine I have no trouble setting up the device using the National Insturments Measurement & Automation Software version 9.4.
Some windows updates were pushed to the computer that my USB-6509 was connected to, causing the computer to reboot in the middle of use. When the machine came back up the USB device couldn't be found by the Measurement & Automation Software, nor by Windows Device Manager. I did a complete uninstall of the software and reinstalled, this did not fix the issue. I uninstalled 9.4 and installed 9.5 and this too has not resolved the issue.
Inside device manager windows will show "Static Digital Firmware Loader" under "Data Acquistion Devices". But there is nothing installed pointing to the USB-6509.
The green light on the back has yet to come back on. I would prefer not to reformat if at all possible. Any suggestions?

I was having this exact issue.  "NI Device Loader" was running on the machine, but stopping and restarting this service by itself was what finally caused the device to start working again after lots of rebooting and other troubleshooting steps.  Thanks for the tip.

  • Microsoft Lifecam Studio stops being recognized while connected

    Good day,
We are using Microsoft Lifecam Studuio webcams with Windows 7 PCs to faciliate desktop VTC with Polycom's CMA Desktop. The PCs are multi-user. We are finding that, without touching the webcam, it is stopping to be recognized by the O/S for some unknown reason,
requiring the user to unplug and reconnect the webcam for it to be recognized once again. This is inconvenient as the users do not have easy access to their PCs, nor do we expect that this should be a regular requirement for a peripheral device, once connected
    it should remain active.
Are there maybe firmware updates for the Lifecam or a driver update that should be used to correct? (Currently using 6.1.7601.18208) Is the webcam being affected because of multi-user sessions?
    Thanks for any advice.

    Hi SA Stewart ,
"We are finding that, without touching the webcam, it is stopping to be recognized by the O/S for some unknown reason, requiring the user to unplug and reconnect the webcam for it to be recognized once again"
Do you mean this device will stop working when we try to switch the user or it just stopped suddently ?Will the issue occur regularly ?
We can download the latest fireware update and software for the device here .
    LifeCam Studio
    http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/p/lifecam-studio/Q2F-00013#support
If the issue occured when we try to switch the user ,I suggest you to stop the process which is occupying this device from the task manager before we switch the user.
If it is possible ,we can try to connect the device to another machine to verify whether this issue only occurred with this specific machine .
    Best regards

  • HELP!  WD Passport External Drive stopped being recognized by my Mac

This happened out of the blue. It worked fine for 2 years. No problems. Then today when I plug it into my Mac, I hear it spin for about a minute but my Mac won't recognize it.  The drive doesn't show up at all, anywhere, including the Disc Utility.  The external drive also appears to be in fine working condition --- I have never seen it overheat, and I have never heard any noises coming form it.
The WD Passport External Drive uses a Firewire 800 port, and my Mac notebook is a late 2011 model, and it is running OS X 10.9.5.
The only thing that was oddly coincidental was that I noticed this after I installed an update for iTunes that looked like it involved more than just iTunes (I saw something about a "Safari patch" and other stuff in the bundle too).  I'm thinking this was just a coincidence though, and I'm not even sure the external HD wasn't working even before that, but who knows.
    Anyone have any ideas???

    Some more information...
So I was able to test the external HD using the USB port (instead of the Firewire port), and also tested it on a separate computer, and I always experienced the same problem.  The external HD starts trying to spin and connect to my Mac, but after trying unsuccessfully to do so after about 20 seconds it gives up and stops/powers-down.
Since I've tested it using different ports, different connecting wires, and different computers, I'm thinking chances are the problem is with the hardware of the external HD itself (i.e. worst case scenario).
Before shipping my external HD off to get repaired or to get the data recovered, can anyone think of any reason why it would be a software issue?  I read something about updating the "firmware" but I have no idea what that is.  I guess I'm still holding out hope that the drive isn't fried because when I plug it in it does try to spin and start up instead of just remaining dead.
Any ideas at all are welcome at this point.
    Thanks

  • MY IPOD SUDDENLY STOPPED BEING RECOGNIZED BY MY COMPUTER AND WOULDNT CHARGE

I have a weird problem, when I plug my IPOD into my computer, it wouldnt be recognized at all (just lik if I had not plugged anything in). The Ipod would work play songs and work fine, but all of a sudden it would not trigger its detection on my Windows XP. It happened all of a sudden.
It wont even charge, or appear in the list of devices... does anyone here have any idea of what could be the problem?
    Thanks a lot
    David.

I had this problem before. It ended up that I called
Apple and had to purchase an AppleCare Protection
Plan for $50, only for them to tell me to reset my
iPod. Here is how to do it:
Put your iPod on a flat surface.
Toggle the "hold" switch on and then off, to turn
    your iPod on.
Press and hold the MENU and SELECT buttons
simultaneously, until the Apple logo appears on the
    screen.
Then try to connect your iPod to your comptuer
    again.
    I hope this helps!
Wond3rlust, what kind iPod are you refering to? Im having the exact same problem with mine; it justs tarted doing this like alst week, but mine's an iPod shuffle, so it doesn't have "menu" and "select" buttons.
But I'm having the same issue with my shuffle. I don't knwo why its doing this. If i knew it was going to cost problems when it isn't even a year odl yet I wouldn't of gotten the shuffle; I would've gotten the mini or something, but I thought, the shuffle being small and not very high tech and everything, that it would cause no problems at all...obviously i was wrong. I NEED HELP TOO!! IM NOTHING WITHOUT MY MUSIC!

  • New Apple Airport Time Capsule Suddenly Stopped Being Recognized by IMAC

It worked flawlessly for a little over a month or so. Then suddenly it is not recognized. It's ID has changed when I look in Time Machine, so I hesitate to reselect this "data" ID that was not what was setup in the store (and which worked flawless for 6 weeks and which now does not appear as available). In Finder, no backup drive appears at all. Just some unknown remote network volume that is not selectable and the hard drive. The TM backup drive is gone.
