USB 3.0 in ExpressCard 34 works on MBP Bootcamp Windows 7, what about OSX?

An ExpressCard34 USB 3.0 card and drive can work on MacBookPros with this slot when the machine is running Windows 7 on Bootcamp, with at least a significant speed advantage over USB 2.0
Start your read from:
"I used the PC Card on a MacBook Pro running BootCamp with Windows 7 64 Bit Home Edition"
http://www.bonafidereviews.com/review-of-blackarmor-ps-110-usb-3-0-performance-k it/
This would indicate that the hardware on a MacBookPro would support an ExpressCard34 USB3.0 card and harddrive since this review states this when the machine is running Windows7 natively i.e. on Bootcamp.
So any incompatibility of using such a setup with a Mac on OSX is purely software, i.e. OSX does not have the drivers.

  • Headphone with mic not working properly on Bootcamp Windows 7

Hey, guys. I have a Macbook Air mid-2012, installed Windows 7 (Bootcamp) and I wish a I could use my Sony Stereo Headset DR-EX12iP with mic for chatting while playing some games. But the microphone isn't working in Windows 7 and I don't know why. I already searched over the internet about an answer but found none. The build-in microphone of MBA is too much sensitive and bother my friends. Just for information, I use the same headset in Mac OS X and it works perfectly with facetime and skype.
I hope somebody can help me out. Thanks!

i need help accessing my email and company server from my imac   the company uses a windows based exchange server   thanks

Are you trying to set your email up on the iMac using mail?  If so, you will some information from you IT department.  Or you can try to setup and exchange server in mail and type your email account and password.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3748  if it's a POP account you will need to get the setup info from IT.  You can use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to your server.

  • HT1369 All my Apple stuff are not working with my new window 8, what can I do?

I have switched Windows 7 to Windows 8 two days ago, but I did not have any back up, therefore I lost everything from the harddrive, now I try to download videos again to all my Apple stuff, but I can not do that, how come? Please help, thank you.

Move the content from the old computer to the new computer, failing to do so is extremely unintelligent as is not having a backup.
Not all content is available for redownload from iTunes depending on the country that you are in.

I have plugged a portable battery to the USB and my macbook pro stopped working after that, right before it shut down there was a message on the screen that said something like " USB device is withdrawing so much power, please disconnect and connect again?
if the device I connected have caused this, shouldn't the macbook itself have some type of protection that should prevent this from happening.
because when I took it to an apple certified maintenance shop, the guy said that now it could only run while connected to the power. it won't run on batteries. and that I have to change the motherboard.
can I just replace the damaged part only, would apple consider this as a design issue and they could pay for it, or should I just buy a new motherboard for 800$.
    Help.

    BB1B2,
The problem is in finding a tech shop that will/can do board level repairs on Macs. They are few. And I certainly wouldn't spend $800 on a new logic board - I would replace the computer if I had to pay that much!
You could call around to a few repair shops and see if they feel competent to isolate the problem and do a board level repair - but I'm afraid, in the end, that your search will be futile.
    Sorry,

Never mind, I think. I think I figured it out. There was 1 song (out of > 900!) that somehow had been purchased with the other ID - I have no idea how. Once I deleted that song, it stopped asking.
There may be something with the newest iTunes version too. I didn't think in older versions that the "On this iPod" list of songs was greyed out. But at least it syncs ok.

  • ExpressCard/34 not working in BootCamp Windows 7 64-bit. Apple's BIOS emulation does not give enough resources.

    MacBook Pro unibody, 15" 2009
ExpressCard/34 (Card is by Transcend TS-RDF1, JMicron chip for SD card) is not working in BootCamp Windows 7 64-bit. Windows reports:
"This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)
If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system."
Other data points: Card works fine in Mac OSX, worked under Windows XP 32-bit (initially reported same problem, but works after reboot).
Checking the forums there seems to be no actual device suggested to actually remove that would help the problem. And even if it was, the concept is ridiculous. What other device would you like to remove? Display adapter? Network adapter? No way. I use all available devices and don't want to compromise.
It seems like BIOS emulation does not allocate enough resources to ExpressCard.
Are others having the same problem?
Does anyone have a fix for this?
Is there anyone at Apple who cares to provide a solution?

It is not a driver problem, but a problem in the BIOS emulated by bootcamp on some (not all) MBP models. So unless Apple fixes it in bootcamp, there is no real solution. And obviously, Apple doesn't care. They are dropping the Expresscard slot anyway.
Unfortunately, this poster seems right: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=912259 :
The 2008/2009 Macbook Pros don't allow to use the ExpressCard slot because of EFI/Bootcamp errors (Windows Vista/7 cannot allocate an IRQ to the slot). You don't need any drivers for using an ExpressCard slot on Windows, you only need the drivers for the corresponding card you are using.
Bootcamped XP allowed to use the slot, but you could not use hot-plugging.
    And from the Sonnet site ( http://www.sonnettech.com/product/tempo_sata_express34.html ) :
Tempo SATA ExpressCard/34 not supported under Windows 7 or Windows Vista when running on unibody MacBook Pro computers. The problem is caused by the MacBook Pro's BIOS emulation, which doesn't allocate enough resources to support certain kinds of Expresscard/34 devices, such as a SATA controller, in these operating systems.

  • Some USB 2.0 Hard Disk Drives Work, Some Don't

External drives that work for me with AEBSn:
    New LaCie 500GB USB 2
    New LaCie 250GB USB 2
Older Western Digital 80GB USB 2
    Drive that doesn't work:
    AcomData 320GB USB 2/FireWire combo
The 250GB LaCie drives are currently on sale at CompUSA for $99.99 US.

Careful. My brand new, USB2 250GB LaCie d2 drive does not work well at all on my draft-n airport network. It's fine as an AirDisk... until I want to download something from iTunes. Music's okay, but if it's a TV or a movie, the download will begin... and after a few minutes, it will grind to a hault, iTunes will NOT quit (or force quit for that matter), and the next time I hard restart or join my network, I can no longer mount my LaCie drive. This is reproduceable EVERY TIME.
LaCie tells me to talk to Apple (and I'm inclined to agree), and Apple says they don't officially support this feature (used in this way). Pretty pathetic of Apple and I'm very unhappy with this product.

  • Mac Mini and USB 2.0 hubs (hubs stop working within a month)

I have an aluminum Mini running OSX 10.6.6 (Snow Leopard). With only 4 USB ports, I have need of a USB hub to accommodate my external drives and other peripherals: keyboard/mouse, camera and iPhone have to use the existing ports in the Mini (difficult access to ports due to space limitations), leaving one port for up to 4 external drives (older drives 40-60gb used for backup and extra storage).
I have problems using powered USB 2.0 hubs with this computer; I have 'burned out' 2 hubs since buying the Mini in February. They just flat out stop working, though they still show power (the power indicator light on the hubs); no peripheral is recognized when plugged into the hub (which worked fine for about a month). I can unplug the 'must use Mini ports' (camera, iPhone, charger, etc) and the peripheral drives are recognized and work normally when plugged directly into the Mini ports.
One hub was a Belkin 4-port hub (about 1 year old) and the other was a GE 3-port hub with several flash card readers (19-in-1 card reader), also about a year old. Is there any reasonable explanation why powered hubs would suddenly stop working, related to use with the Mac Mini 2010 aluminum version?
I had worse problems with the USB ports in an old (~2006) Mac Mini (out of warranty), where the USB ports in the Mini stopped working, which is partly why I bought the new mini. In light of this tidbit, (be honest, please) are there known issues with Mac Minis and USB?

Each of the external drives has its own power supply; I generally only use one drive at any one time, but on rare occasions I have powered up more than one to confirm or transfer files. I don't leave any of those drives on when not in use, and when everything is working I properly eject/unmount them before turning them off.
There have been times when I powered up a drive connected to a powered hub and both the hub and the drive indicated activity but the drive didn't mount. On those occasions the drives sometimes would not appear in Disk Utility, and other times would appear, but would not be "mountable". I didn't know what the best way to deal with that was, so I would just turn the drive off, hoping the lack of mounting on the desktop meant no real drive activity was occurring and I wouldn't risk data loss or drive damage. So far all the drives seem to work fine when plugged directly into the back of the mini.
The main external hard drive I was using when the Belkin hub failed (iomega 40g) is USB 2.0 only (no firewire). I have another drive that is only firewire (la cie 60g)... so it wasn't a factor. Two other external drives are ACOM, one 40g one 120g, and then there's my old iMac G5 disk (display fizzled and everything but the disk recycled through Apple's recycling program) which is mounted in an external enclosure and is part of the USB contingent, but is not being used for anything but backup (all three both USB 2 and FW400 capable). (I know, too many toys... but why throw them out?)
The USB hubs both had their own power supplies, too, and I never used them without power (though I tried it as part of troubleshooting, before reading the Apple article on USB and power requirements). Other USB devices that only work when plugged into the mac directly are my Epson Stylus CX4800 all-in-one, and my Radio Shark.
So, whaddya think? Should I risk buying another powered USB hub or just live with plugging in peripherals to one available USB port (through a short USB 2.0 extension) and only use one at a time? That would be a bit of a pain, but if there are no issues you've heard of with Mac USB ports (several unanswered questions in the Mini Support forums here involving USB and peripherals, I noticed), what else would explain the seemingly short lives of USB hubs?
Oh, here's something I just remembered: the last time the Belkin hub was working (last night), I had my Radtech BT mouse charger cable plugged in (not charging, mouse not attached) along with two of the external hard drives, and my Fuji camera USB cable. I got an error message onscreen (on the Mini) that a drive had been improperly ejected (or put away?), yet the hard drive in question was still mounted on the desktop. I looked at the hub, and the loose ends of the charger and the camera USB cable were touching. Could that have caused the error (and maybe the hub to fail)? (Edit: the camera cable I think was plugged into the mini's one available port; 3 external drives and the mouse charger were plugged into the hub, _but only one drive powered up and in use (3rd edit)_. The camera end of its USB cable contacted the mini-plug end of the mouse charger... could that have short-circuited the hub? +That wouldn't explain the failure of the GE hub a couple weeks before... but I don't know if any of this is connected, so to speak--2nd edit.+)

  • USB Stick not Working in MBP

I have a 17" MacBook Pro running the latest OS X, and I have a Lacie USB key. When I plug in the USB key, my MBP does not recognize it at all. Nothing. However, when I plug the same USB key into my iMac (running the save version of OS X) it works just fine. The USB key also works perfectly on my Windows 7 PC at work. Other USB devices (hard drives, etc.) DO work on my MacBook Pro, so it's not as if the USB slot is busted. I've tried both slots to no avail.
Does anyone have any idea why this would be happening, or what I can do to try and fix it? Thanks!

Have you tried other USB devices to confirm it's the 17" MBP?
If you can confirm it you should then backup your data and reinstall OS X by c booting off the installer disk.
You can also shutdown the computer, hold the D key and reboot, hold the D key for quite some time and you might enter the hardware tester.
If you reinstalled OS X and your problems continue, you should make a warranty/service call with Apple.
    Good luck
