Usb 3.0 port 12 only 2.0

I have an HP Pavilion 50 297c with 4 usb 3.0 ports.  3 are working as 3.0 (2 back & 1 front - right)  Front left tests and runs at High-Speed (not SuperSpeed)  (15 MBs while the others clock ~ 80).  I'm using USB Tree View and Flash Bench.  Can anyone help me?   Thanks

I was using win7 so far and had no issues. Recent upgrade to Win10 has caused me this problem. My laptop has 3 usb ports, 2 of which are USB2.0 and one is USB 3.0. However the USB 3.0 port is running at speeds of USB 2.0. My harddisk is seagate expansaion portable 1.0 TB.  Any solutions. I have already done successful online update of all drivers.

  • How do I disable only the USB 2.0 ports - K7T266 Pro2-RU

None of the USB ports on this MB will work with my Biostar 6-in-1 card reader - however, I have a VIA USB 2.0 PCI card that works fine with it. I want to disable the 2.0 ports only, and install the PCI card. The manual is not very helpful - if I only enable USB 2, which seems to be the USB 1.1 header, that DOES disable the USB 2.0 ports, but it also disables the 2 USB 1.1 ports on the MB!

Yes, and they are labled USB1, USB2 and USB3 - now I assume that these correspond to the JUSB1, JUSB2 and JUSB3 headers on the MB, with JUSB2 being the 1.1 ports on the D-LED bracket, and JUSB1 and JUSB3 being the 2.0 headers. I can only ENABLE certain USB ports in the BIOS - i.e. if I only enable JUSB2, this effectively disables the 2.0 ports - aha - it also disables the 2 1.1 ports on the back of the MB itself!!
    Any other answers?

  • USB 3.0 ports functioning only as 2.0 Acer timelineU ultrabook?

Hello, I have an Acer TimelineU M5-48-TG-6814 ultra book laptop, that can be found here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215392 I am trying to get the driver software to work for an eye tracking mouse, found here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SB8YKVI/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00SB8YKVI&linkCode=as2&tag=flickrphotost-20&linkId=B4CXV6URGPZM65CU The device isn't sold with the software, so it's kind of a pain to install, but I followed the one customer review on the above Amazon link, which included a lot of information on how to install it. First, I installed the Steel Series engine, found here: http://steelseries.com/c/sentry-qsg Next, I installed the EyeX software, found here: http://developer.tobii.com/ Then I plugged in the eye tracker, but the eyeX software tells me that it requires USB 3.0, and that it appears to be connected to a USB 2.0 port. Except that I have USB 3.0 (both ports are USB 3.0, which you can find under the specs for the laptop in the first link, and I confirmed by looking at the ports and seeing that they are indeed blue). I checked my device manager, and to my surprise, didn't see anything under universal serial bus controllers that said USB 3.0 (I read online that it should say there if you have USB 3.0, but all it said was enhanced, which apparently means 2.0). Anyway, I downloaded the USB 3.0 driver from the Acer website for my laptop, and try right clicking on the various USB things under universal serial bus controllers in the device manager,  and trying to update their driver software using the driver I downloaded. However, most of them just tell me that "Windows has determined that your software is up to date for this device." However, I did notice one USB thing that had a problem with the driver, and updating the driver to this USB 3.0 driver that I downloaded got it to work at least. Now that one reads Intel(R) USB 3.0 extensible host controller, and there is another one below it that reads Intel(R) USB 3.0 root hub. Anyway, I thought this would probably solve the problem, but I still get the same error when I plug in the device. I was wondering if anyone knew what to do? Also, if anyone knows what the difference between all the various USB stuff in the device manager is, that would be helpful. I see 4 things that say Generic USB hub (I think that is my USB 2.0 hub), 2 things that say Intel(R) 7 series/C216 chipset family USB enhanced host controller, the 2 USB 3.0 things I mentioned earlier, 2 things that say USB composite device, and 2 things that say USB root hub (all this is without the eye tracker connected). I suspect that the 2  USB root hubs things are the actual ports themselves, but if so, I'm confused as to why there is only one USB 3.0 root hub, and just generally why this is working. Sorry for the really long post, but I'm just trying to include all the details. Help would be much appreciated.

Update: after installing USBlyzer, I gleaned a little bit more information as to what might be going on. I noticed that when I plug in my eye tracker, it is listed under this software as using the USB 2.0 (C216 chipset family USB enhanced host controller or whatever) driver, and not the USB 3.0 one. I'm not really sure why there's only one USB 3.0 host controller/root hub under my device manager, and I'm also not sure why my eye tracker is defaulting to connect to the port with this driver software, but maybe there's a way to force it to use the USB 3.0 drivers? Again, help would be much appreciated

  • Left USB port only works when entering BIOS

Hi all -- I have a Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5106, the LEFT USB port only works when I enter the BIOS at boot-time. If I disconnect the drive, i.e. eject it and then remove it, the port stops working. The other two ports at the right work fine. I've tested this with known good flash drives and Kensington USB trackball that work fine on four other computers, and the other two USB ports. I'm thinking its software/BIOS because hardware would fail intermittently, I could not get the port to work if there was a failing connection. As stated, this work-around succeeds EVERY time. I have not upgraded the bios. Has anyone had this problem?

  • USB 2 hub only works on USB 3.0 ports

I have a USB 2.0 hub manufactured by Plugable (part number USB2-HUB-AG7) that I am trying to use with my
HP DV6t-6b00 laptop.  The hub and all devices works normally with the USB 3.0 ports but does't work at all with the USB 2.0 ports.  This behavior happens even when no devices are plugged into the hub.  The hub also works normally in other my other computers (a HP 6910 laptop and a Dell desktop).
Has anyone seen this occur before? I would like to use the the hub but don't want to lose a USB 3 port to plug in a USB 2 hub.

I understand that USB devices do not work in the USB 2.0 ports.
What happens when USB devices are used in the 2.0 ports?  Does Windows behave as if it has detected them or does it give an error message?
Do devices work in the 2.0 ports without going through the USB hub?
Is the HUB working off USB  power or does it have a dedicated power adapter?

  • Mac Pro USB and FW800 ports not working

I've been reading tons of forum entries in the Apple Support Community and in other forums.  Nothing seems to answer quite what's going on with my Mac Pro Tower.
Here are the details and steps taken up to now:
    - I'm running a Mac Pro Tower (MacPro 3,1, 2x 2,8GHz Quad Core, Early 2008 model), currently running OS 10.6.8
    - I moved before the holidays in December and left my computer unplugged for over  month while away. Didn't have any issues before the move.
    - up until the last couple of weeks, I had actually been running on Leopard (yes, I'm a luddite!, please, no teasing )
    - I was trying to update my ipod touch's iOS and kept getting errors preventing it from completing the process. At first I thought it was an ipod app causing the issue after having read a few threads on that topic...
    - Also, on startup, the Mac started searching for a Bluetooth keyboard, of which I don't have, and would not detect my usb keyboard.  I would disconnect and reconnect the keyboard and the majority of the time, the Mac would then recognize my USB keyboard.
    - I decided to upgrade to Snow Leopard, which didn't help with the iPod update. I did not do a clean install.
    - Then I noticed that my USB stick wasn't working and tried it in all the usb ports (except the ones on the keyboard)
    - Also, I had removed and then reinstalled printer and scanner drivers for my All-in-one printer. After this I kept getting constant communication errors between the mac and the printer via the usb port, although I was able to print a test page.
    - I've used Hardware Test once which didn't detect any issue.
    - I reset the SMC
    - I reset the PRAM, and for a few seconds I was able to read from my USB stick, then never again, even after another PRAM reset.
    - I've cleaned the whole inside of the computer and checked for loose cables.  Cables are in so tight it's so hard to loosen them!
    - I now tested all the ports:
∞ the 2 front and 3 back USB ports are unresponsive to my usb key and to my VoyagerQ dock
∞ the front and back FW800 ports are unresponsive to my VoyagerQ dock
∞ However, the keyboard works in any fo the back ports and my USB stick is recorgnized by the USB port of the keyboard.
∞ I also plugged in my Logitech webcam into the keyboard and it works there but not in any other port.
∞ When I plug in USB powered speakers into any of the ports, they work fine
∞ And the FW400 ports are also working fine with my VoyagerQ dock
    - a few times, including once today, my mac restarted by itself.  The times before today, I thought it was because I was sort of moving back the computer in place, but today I was nowhere near the computer.
So what does this all mean? Should I do a clean install of the Mac OS? Or is it a problem with my Logic Board?
Any insight please would be helpful.  I had Apple Care and missed the reminder to renew it so I really hoping not to spend more money than necessary.

    Thanks Grant,
The battery is a start and something inexpensive to replace.
I did do a PRAM reset (command + option + P + R) and was able to hear the chime 4 times. I tried resetting it a number of times over the past week, as well as yesterday with no success in reviving the USB ports.  But isn't it weird that my USB powered speakers work by plugging them in any USB port (with the mini jack pugged in the back or front earphone plug)?
I did not use the USB ports on the keyboard until yesterday, so that is not the cause of the other USB and FW800 ports failing. But I'll follow your suggestion and not use them except for the mouse.
Another weird thing that happened yesterday, I have 16GB of RAM and I spent all day trying to troubleshoot a RAM issue that is magically fixed after leaving the computer on overnight to do an extended Hardware Test. The issue was:
    - Only 8 RAMS were being recognized
    - a red LED light appeared on the top riser
    - first I thought I had isolated the faulty RAM bar, and then a second one
    - Then going pair by pair again, I no longer saw the LED light
    - Put back all 8 bars, only 8 GB of RAM recognized
    - Left computer overnight running Hardware test (said it took almost 3 hours, with no errors)
    - Now all 16 GB are recognized!
    Thanks again for the tips

  • 2nd generation ipod shuffle not recognized by usb 3.0 port, 2nd generation ipod shuffle not recognized by usb 3.0 port

    Hi,
My 2nd generation ipod shuffle will not connect to any usb 3.0 port.  I've tried on to computers -- one Windows XP and the other Windows 7.  Any ideas?

    Hi
I had the same issue with my Late 2009 Mac mini running Mavericks and iTunes 12. When I connected my 2nd generation iPod shuffle it would blink amber once then do nothing. This seems to be a common problem with the iPod shuffle and newer versions of Mac OS X (10.6 and up) and iTunes albeit with somewhat varying symptoms but the same overall problem syncing the iPod with iTunes.
The predominant go-to solution is to give the iPod more power by either connecting the iPod directly to a USB port on the Mac or by disconnecting all other USB devices. On paper this makes sense.
What worked for me, however, was the opposite. After trying to solve this problem for hours (weeks, months), I had success ONLY after adding a low-powered 4-port USB hub to the chain between the iPod and the Mac. I suspect this had the effect of throttling the power supplied to the iPod from the Mac. I was able to perform a restore on the iPod then sync my music over.
I can't tell you much about the USB hub except that it is running at USB 1.1 speeds (12 Mb/sec). In theory a USB 1.1 extension cable should also do the trick. You might even be able to use the USB hub in old wired Apple USB keyboard. I will attach a photo of the hub I used to this post for greater clarity.
    I really hope this helps.

  • USB 2.0 ports on MS-6398E board

I'm new to the MSI forums so bear with me if my style of posting is not yet quite right.
I've got an MS-6398E motherboard and in Win2K the Device Manager lists one USB 2.0 root hub and 3 USB root hubs (no numeric designation).
When I check the properties sheet for each root hub the USB 2.0 root hub shows 6 ports available and with a single device on each of 2 of the other 3 hubs it shows 1, 1 and 2 ports available.
Patently something is not right because it seems that I have 12 ports in total on a motherboard that only has 6 to begin with.
Ideally I would like the 2 devices I currently have plus any future devices to run off the USB 2.0 ports because they're faster.
    So I'm open to suggestions.
    Thanks in advance.

I just installed my new GNB Max a few hours ago and it uses the same ICH4 southbridge as your board so therfor all the peripherals are the same.
I also see 6 ports on the USB2.0 hub and 2 on each of the other ones.
Looks normal to me since they all seem to work.

  • USB 3.0 ports not working after upgrading to Windows 8.1

I have an Asus WIndows 8 laptop that I just upgraded to Windows 8.1 today. My USB 3.0 ports have started acting up. At first they recognized some of my external hard drives but not others. I tested all of the external hard drives and they work fine on my
other machines. I've tested the wires as well. Now, when I plug my external hard drives into the USB 3.0 ports, none of them work at all. All of them work fine on the 2.0 USB port though. How can I get my USB 3.0 ports working again?

my logic is like this, this motherboard is tested by Operating system that listed at download driver, you can check here
    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/970AG46.html#/?div=Driver&os=Win8 64
there is an update 1.16.12 for USB ASMedia USB 3.0 Driver but for Windows 8
In order to worked with Windows 8.1, you need the updated driver, because this motherboard comes before Windows 8.1 launched

I can use my MP3 player in winxp, but can't use it int Vista, and Ubuntu also can't use it.Could you help me?

I've been having the same problem with a usb stick of mine, the same error - unable to enumerate USB device.  I figure explaining my experiences here may help someone else trying to figure this out.
This seems to be hardware related, unfortunately.  I don't know if anyone can correct me.  I have two laptops, one old one new.  Both use 2.6.29.  This one usb stick I have just wont work on the old laptop, regardless of kernel version or distribution.  Other usb mass storage devices work.
I suspect that this is a combination between a kernel bug and hardware issues.  All google searches on this error seem to indicate that the only way people fixed this was through replacement hardware.
I know that the usb flash drive I'm using has a hidden second volume on it.  A 1GB read writeable volume, and a 4MB volume that is uneraseable, includes a pdf document that came with it.  This is not a second partition, the OS sees it as a virtual CDROM drive.  (I got the stick for free at a conference.)  I don't know how this is implemented in hardware, but on other systems (on mac/windows/linux), a second volume appears after 10 seconds of insertion.  I suspect this quirk is what prevents me from using this as a usb boot stick too.
My guess is that the usb device does not follow specification exactly, and borks on certain OS/hardware combinations.  I would call my usb stick broken, and it only manifests itself on some hardware.  The newman mp3 player may be similar, not following the usb specs 100%.  As you said, it won't work in Vista either.
Do you have a different usb mass storage device that you can try?  Plug in a hard disk, a thumb drive, a different mp3 player, see if it works right away.  It makes me sad when hardware doesn't work on Linux, but sometimes that means a trip to ebay and newegg.  I'm going to be doing that with my thumb drive.

  • What is the disadvantage of using USB 3.0 device through USB 2.0 port?

My mac only has USB 2.0 but I'm told to use an external drive with USB 3.0 for better speed. Do I forfeit the 3.0 speed by plugging into a 2.0 port? Even though the 3.0 device is compatible with 2.0, is there a disadvantage?

Thanks for the reply. So basically, if I want to fully utilize the speeds available for USB 3.0 devices, I need a new mac, right? Is there an adapter or workaround? I have memory-intensive sound libraries for use with Logic that are recommended to be stored/run from a SSD or 7200 rpm USB 3.0 drive, so I'm trying to determine if it's worth it to fork out the cash for an expensive external drive, or if it doesn't gain me anything anyways because I'm limited by the USB 2.0 ports on my iMac.
