USB 3.0 port seems to be VERY loose / flimsy (everything keeps disconnecting / reconnecting)

Just like the title says: my USB 3.0 port seems to be very touchy...even the slightest nudge of whatever's plugged in will cause it to play the device-disconnected chime (but then nearly immediately play the device-reconnected chime).
Is this a known issue?
And what do I do to fix?  I assume it's a HARDWARE rather than a software problem, because it's a physical nudge that seems to prompt the disconnect/reconnect...so is this something that i'll need to open my computer to fix? It's not under warranty anymore...

Hi there @BarryKatz1
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
I understand that you have an intermittent USB connection and that the connector seems loose. I am happy to help, and as you surmise, this is more of a hardware issue.
I certainly feel your pain, I have a notebook that my young son pulled down (more than once) and each time I lost a USB port due to damage, and of the three I had on that notebook, only one still functions.
The port is a part of the notebook's mainboard, so the main remedy is a board replacement.  You will find the part and part numbers in the service guide, on page 25 of 81.
HP Spectre 13 Pro Ultrabook and HP Spectre 13 Ultrabook Maintenance and Service Guide
About the only other thing you can try is a new USB cable for the device, just in case the problem is more cable related.
I hope this helps.

  • IMac: USB and Thunderbolt ports seems loose

I'm not sure if this is really a question other than wondering if other people experience it.
I have a 14.2 27" iMac.  The thunderbolt port is used to connect to a second display, and the USB ports are primarily used for external drives.
In all cases, I find that even the slightest movement of the USB or Thundebolt cable will result in the device being momentarily physically disconnected.  I have tried to reproduce this on my gaming PC with the USB drives and I can wiggle the cable all I want without the drive disconnecting.
Since all of the USB ports on the iMac do this, and none of the ports on the PC do, I can only assume there is some sort of design flaw or manufacturing defect.
    Any thoughts?
    -Doc

Yep, same here, my relatively new, very expensive, souped up 27 iMac keeps on dropping the drive connected to the Thunderbolt port whenever I unplug something from a neighbouring USB port.
And no, Apple I am not lugging a huge 27 inch iMac back to the store for you to fix something that is your fault, which you don't admit is happening to many iMacs and which you apparently don't know how to fix. And apparently in Australia we don't have site visits for Apple Care....
I am a weak older person who can't lift the thing (and who waited a very long time to be able to afford this machine) - but you see I never expected my iMac and Mavericks to be so darn dodgy - I trusted you Apple.. as I have for the last 30 years of using an Apple.
Mavericks probs were bad enough, but it was a software prob which eventually (hopefully I thought they'll fix) - it does make my heart bleed however to realise that Apple with its billions of cash in the bank can't afford to hire some decent coders to fix multiple probs with Mavericks in a timely fashion....
    But now?????
    - now I realise I actually have a computer with a faulty thunderbolt port....and that Apple does not seem to be acknowledging this fault....Apple had better find a solution that does not give me a hernia....
Thanks for your input folks in this forum.....sorry for sounding so annoyed - that's cos I am:-)
( and yes I am going to put this in feedback somewhere so the robot who reads can bin it more easily)

  • Lenovo Thinkpad E530 - USB 3.0 Ports Not Working Code 10

Hi everyone, so I own a Lenovo E530 with Windows 7 and just earlier today I plugged in my optical mouse into it, about 10 minutes in, Windows gave me a "not enough power message" for my USB 3.0 ports on the left side and they just stopped working. I have 3 USB 3.0 ports on the left side of the laptop, and one USB 2.0 on the right which works just fine.
From there it gave me Code 10 for Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface in the Network Adapter section (which I was able to fix via a registry change) and now what is left to fix is the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller which I cannot seem to fix. I have tried the uninstall/reinstall processes, with Intel's own drivers and Lenovo drivers which were just older version of the Intel USB 3.0 drivers, over and over yet it is still stuck on Code 10, where it will not start.
I never really overused the USB ports either, aside from plugging in a portable USB fan and portable hard drive here and there, and a USB dongle for a wireless mouse and keyboard (Logitech all-in-ones), that is pretty much all I have done with it. I do not believe the ports are not bad or anything, although it may be a hardware problem, but all 3 USB ports still give power on my fan and external HDs when I plug it in, it is just that Windows does not recognize it and nothing happens when I plug something into. But on the other hand, the USB 2.0 port reads just fine and recognizes everything. I have also tried the Troubleshooter multiple times, but everytime it tries to reinstall I get the "Failed" message.
Here is a screenshot of what I am talking about.
    http://i.imgur.com/mKqWpFU.png
    http://i.imgur.com/RLkbyHY.png
I have tried reinstalling and uninstalling the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver for W7 using the ones listed on the drivers page through Lenovo and using the newest version fround on Intel's webpage as well. Having done these I still could not get it working, so I did a full reformat of the Hard Drive, from there I am able to get the USB 2.0 and 1 of the 3 USB 3.0 ports to work (the very top one above/left of the HDMI port) and recognize devices when I plug them into Windows. But this is working through not having the USB 3.0 Driver installed and just the basic one without having any updates/drivers installed on. Once I install the USB 3.0 Driver back it, it goes back to the original problem.
The problem still persists even though I have done multiple reformats, uninstall/reinstalls, updating to newest drivers and BIOS, etc. I have owned and still own a whole family of Lenovo laptops which still work perfectly fine, but this is the first time I have seen anything like this go wrong in a laptop. Is there anything else I can try to fix this problem? The laptop just went out of warranty a few months ago, and if I were to send it in and get it repaired would it cost me a lot?

    Hi,
    Can you try this
The Device You're missing drivers for (PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_7814&SUBSYS_380217AA&REV_01) is definitely for AMD USB 3.0, this one's off from AMD WEbsite
    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/raid_windows.aspx#2
download the AMD Chipset Drivers see if that'll work.
Have you installed the energy management?
If not please install this as well, I'm thinking this is what the other device is for.

  • Windows 7 keeps freezing, disconnecting/reconnecting USB devices

Last week, a lightning strike near where I live caused a power surge and as a result, my ethernet card was fried.  I took my computer (iMac) to a store to have it repaired, and they wound up replacing the entire motherboard (a bit extreme in my opinion, but what do I know).
When I got it back today, sure the ethernet problem was solved, but I noticed that my taskbar was acting weird - specifically the icons in the notification tray.  Lots of them were "blank", meaning there were just empty spaces that would highlight when I hovered the cursor over them, but nothing happened when I clicked them.
Then I discovered that clicking any of the icons in the notification tray almost immediately froze the computer.  Frozen, as in completely unresponsive to the point where my only option was to manually shut off the computer.  That happened twice.
My solution was to reboot in safe mode and run system restore to an earlier point.  That fixed the notification tray problem (no more freezing, and the icons were all back), but the computer still keeps freezing at random intervals.  Again, my only solution is to manually shut it off by holding down the power button, which I hate doing because I know it's bad for the hard drive.  Sometimes it froze as soon as the welcome screen.  I tried running a virus scan, but again it froze in the middle of the process.
On top of the constant freezing, it keeps disconnecting/reconnecting my usb devices.  My mouse and keyboard will suddenly drop out for five seconds and then start working again.  This constantly happens, to the tune of several "disconnect" sounds playing over the speakers.
What the heck is going on?  I tried re-installing the Boot Camp drivers, but that didn't work.  I have my Windows 7 CD and backed up files, so if worse comes to worst I can do a clean install of Windows, but I'd rather not have to spend a day re-building my computer, and I'd REALLY rather not take it back in for another repair, since that took a week and I need this for my work.
Any ideas on what I should do?  I'm out of town on my laptop for the weekend, and I'd like to have a game plan for when I get back.

I'm very excited to finally have a solution for this problem. Thank You Balaji for figuring this out. I've been struggling with this for a number of years, and had only one USB Hard Drive that worked. I too have VMware workstation, and had the missing files
in "c:\windows\inf." I can say with certainty that I did not delete the files from that folder, but something is common in both of our situations. Maybe it has to do with VMware, and some of it's updates over the years. I'm also using nCompute to share out
a networked desktop via the wire.
One more thing worthy of mention is this machine was an update from Windows Vista, and the USB hard drive that worked was configured back than. So although I could never add another HD, at least I had the one.
Now with having copied over the files, I can plugin other USB enclosures with different drives and they too are working.
Like you mentioned, it was always possible to use USB devices within my Virtual Machines, so it was clear that the USB ports were functional. I actually got the files from a clean Windows 7 VM, copying out the \windows\inf folder and doing a compare between
the the real one and the virtual one. I found the two missing files you mentioned, along with 8 others. I went ahead and included them all in your fix.
It worked, Amazing. Thanks again. :O)

  • USB port seems a lot quicker than my tower?

I just noticed that transferring files from my usb key on my new MacBook Pro seems a lot faster than doing this on my old G5, even though they both use the same speed USB 2.0 port.
Is there something about this notebook that makes it quicker?
    Thanks.

Most likely it's through better driver support.

I have macbook without a firewire port, I have usb 2.0 port, now my os is not working I can not get through apple logo loading , I can not enter safe mode, I can only enter one user mode, how can I backup my data, I have very important data in my hdd

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.

  • USB 2.0 port no longer recognizes ext. HD; USB 3.0 seems fine W510

Have had several BSODs in last few days. Two of most recent referred to nusb3xhc.sys
Other symptoms: I have 3 WesternDigital 500GB ext. USB 2.0 HDs none of which are being recognized even when plugging directly in to laptop USB port rather than USB hub I usually use. Same USB port will show a small thumb drive. USB 3.0 laptop port still works. While the WD HDs are all older, worked several days ago but now never show up in Windows Explorer and the tray icon for USB never shows them as I typically click on the latter to eject an ext. USB HD.
    Recent changes to laptop:
    1) 6.1.2014 installed MS OneDrive (and also on tablet). version 17.0.4041.0512
    2) Control Panel add/remove programs shows that Dropbox installed version 2.8.2 just before OneDrive
    3) Subsequent to above I did routine Windows update of Important items with no problems. However for several years since about IE 9 or perhaps 10, I have been unable to get IE to install and work, and have been using Chrome for years. I mention this to give fuller picture, but doubt that it is related to current issue.
    4) Aside from typical routine updates e.g. Java, Bitdefender antivirus I have not intentionally installed any other software recently.
    ============
I have barely begun using MS OneDrive so am happy to uninstall it, or go to restore point prior to its installation. BSOD prior to this might have occurred 1 or 2x per year.
I'm pretty good at following directions if they are complete e.g. need full path if you want me to find something on my HD.
Lenovo website for machine type 4318CTO running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit indicates that driver version for USB 3.0 dated 1/22/2010 versin 1.0.19.0 is up to date and that it is NEC device. Device Manager also says is up to date. There is one USB 3.0 port on rear of laptop and two USB 2.0 on side. HP website shows more recent NEC USB 3.0 driver dated 9/16/2011 version 2.0.32.0
Thanks for your knowledge, skill, and help.

I always thought that high-speed USB was USB 1.1. I thought that USB 2.0 was full-speed. But my iMac Core 2 Duo has USB 2.0 (I'm sure) and it says that my iMac has a USB High-speed bus.
Your PowerBook G4 might need service, go to your local Apple Store and see someone there about it. I'm pretty sure that you have a hardware problem.
    Steps:
    1. Try connecting another USB 2.0 device to that same port. If the device works you have a problem with your iPod. (This is a long shot.) If this happens you should reinstall iPod software.
    2. Try reinstalling iTunes.
    3. Try calling AppleCare technical support.
    4. Try reinstalling Mac OS X. (If AppleCare hasn't told you do this already.)
    5. You have a hardware problem. Go to an Apple Store to get it fixed.

  • How do I disable only the USB 2.0 ports - K7T266 Pro2-RU

None of the USB ports on this MB will work with my Biostar 6-in-1 card reader - however, I have a VIA USB 2.0 PCI card that works fine with it. I want to disable the 2.0 ports only, and install the PCI card. The manual is not very helpful - if I only enable USB 2, which seems to be the USB 1.1 header, that DOES disable the USB 2.0 ports, but it also disables the 2 USB 1.1 ports on the MB!

Yes, and they are labled USB1, USB2 and USB3 - now I assume that these correspond to the JUSB1, JUSB2 and JUSB3 headers on the MB, with JUSB2 being the 1.1 ports on the D-LED bracket, and JUSB1 and JUSB3 being the 2.0 headers. I can only ENABLE certain USB ports in the BIOS - i.e. if I only enable JUSB2, this effectively disables the 2.0 ports - aha - it also disables the 2 1.1 ports on the back of the MB itself!!
    Any other answers?

This would be wonderful but, the older firmware makes the USB Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX, unresponsi've in -+ 5 minutes.
All Programs are unresponsi've after 5 minutes, if I unplug the USB Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX my programs start to respond again. Resetting the firmware to factory default (v..05050), I get no problems, except that the USB Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX response on a USB 2.0 port as if it'ss plug-in on a USB . Port.
I don?t have any problems with any other USB 2.0 hardware! They all work fine and I DON?T get any error telling me I would get High speed if the hardware was plug into a USB 2.0 plug. BECAUSE IT IS A USB 2.0 PORT!
The problem lies in the with in the firmware.
Would you please update the firmware.
In Creative Device Control the USB Connection Speed box.
    Your device is Connected at:
Is grey, I can't set any thing. Why not?
    Suggestion One:
    For technical Personal only!
The drivers Creative releases are based on the Extigy.
If I look at the drivers you write for the PCI range (Audigy, Audigy 2 and Audigy 4 Series) they are better.
The Sound Blaster USB Range, Especially the Audigy Range can do so much more with the right drivers.
I suggested, you create a driver for the USB Composite Device. That emulates a PCI slot. This would allow the External Sound Blaster USB range to install your new and very advance PCI drivers.
    Folder structure:

    ???????-i386
    ?????-win2k_xp
    ???????-amd64

    ???????-i386
    Example:
    By adding in wdma_emu.inf
    [Creative]
    ; EMU0K chip (SBLi've!, APS)
    %EMU0K.DeviceDesc%=EMU0K_Device,PCI\VEN_02&DEV_000 2&CC_04000
    ; USB range (SBLi've!, APS)
    %USB.DeviceDesc%=USB_Device,PCI\VEN_02&DEVXXXXXXXX XXXXX
Adding in the Data folder, a data file for the USB Sound Blasters Audigy 2 NX would be ctp0300w.dat this tells the drivers which kind of features the SB0300 has.
It should detect if it'ss a Creative EMU0K Audio Processor (WDM)
or Creative Audigy Audio Processor (WDM)
If this is not possible at the very most I would like the following software to work with USB Sound Blaster range.
    Audio Console
    AudioHQ
    CtPanel.exe
    EAX Editor
    Speaker Calibrator?
THX Setup Console (This is only software rendering, not limited to selected devices works fine on my Sound Blaster Li've! Value, CT4832)
CTASIO(ASIO 2.0 or .0, The Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX Support ASIO, You just didn?t include it in the drivers)
In EAX Console under Effects tab.
    There is only a Environment
I?m sure that the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX can support.
    - Environment
    - Advanced EQ
    -Special FX
    -Custom
    -Studio
    -Karoake
Again you based it on the old Extigy drivers it'ss the hardware is not limited!
In Surround Sound Mixer under the Advance Button there should be a Balance/Fade window. Again there is no such window because you base it on the Extigy.
In Speakers Settings under Speaker Selection You should add the marker for Synchronize with Control Panel. (This is only a Drivers limitation)
The New PCI Drivers add branding in Microsoft Volume Control and in Sound and Audio Device Properties.
Can you add Branding for the Sound Blaster USB.
    In
    Sound and Audio Devices Properties
    Volume (Tab)
    Speaker Settings (Window)
    Speaker Volume? (Button)
If you click on the Speaker Volume? button. It should give you the option to set Channel to Channel 8, currently there are only Channel and Channel 2
    Sound and Audio Devices Properties
    Volume (Tab)
    Speaker Settings (Window)
    Advance? (Button)
    Effects (Tab)
    Effects: (Drop down)
Is Empty there is only None. Can you please all of the EAX Advanced HD Effects
To conclude would you please improve the Sound Blaster USB Driver! Or just create a new range driver for the Sound Blaster USB!
    Yours truly,
    Horst Johan Kaiser

How can u see the firmware?on this card? ?I wanna know which date my firmware has on my Elite Pro and if it is the latest one?But Creative seems not to give answers to this (read about it from another person who asked this)

hub 6-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 1
I can use my MP3 player in winxp, but can't use it int Vista, and Ubuntu also can't use it.Could you help me?

I've been having the same problem with a usb stick of mine, the same error - unable to enumerate USB device.  I figure explaining my experiences here may help someone else trying to figure this out.
This seems to be hardware related, unfortunately.  I don't know if anyone can correct me.  I have two laptops, one old one new.  Both use 2.6.29.  This one usb stick I have just wont work on the old laptop, regardless of kernel version or distribution.  Other usb mass storage devices work.
I suspect that this is a combination between a kernel bug and hardware issues.  All google searches on this error seem to indicate that the only way people fixed this was through replacement hardware.
I know that the usb flash drive I'm using has a hidden second volume on it.  A 1GB read writeable volume, and a 4MB volume that is uneraseable, includes a pdf document that came with it.  This is not a second partition, the OS sees it as a virtual CDROM drive.  (I got the stick for free at a conference.)  I don't know how this is implemented in hardware, but on other systems (on mac/windows/linux), a second volume appears after 10 seconds of insertion.  I suspect this quirk is what prevents me from using this as a usb boot stick too.
My guess is that the usb device does not follow specification exactly, and borks on certain OS/hardware combinations.  I would call my usb stick broken, and it only manifests itself on some hardware.  The newman mp3 player may be similar, not following the usb specs 100%.  As you said, it won't work in Vista either.
Do you have a different usb mass storage device that you can try?  Plug in a hard disk, a thumb drive, a different mp3 player, see if it works right away.  It makes me sad when hardware doesn't work on Linux, but sometimes that means a trip to ebay and newegg.  I'm going to be doing that with my thumb drive.

  • Connecting 2G shuffle to USB 1.1 port

I bought a 2G shuffle two days ago (on Sunday) and connected it to my computer via USB 1.1 (that's all I have, sad I know) and my computer recognized it, filled it with songs, and I think it fully charged it (the light turned green). I listened to some songs that night on it, and a few more the next day. After turning it off for about 20 minutes that day, I turned it back on and it started to play, but then shut off halfway through the song. I tried to turn it back on and the green light flashed and went dead. I tried this a few more times and the same thing happened. I restored the iPod, then reloaded my songs, but now when I take it off the computer, nothing happens when I try to play it. It almost seems as if there is no charge in the battery. Also, when it is connected to my computer, it becomes very hot to touch. I'm wondering if somehow I fried the battery by using a 1.1 port, or if the shuffle is just corrupt and I should/could exchange it for another one. Please help me!
      Windows XP

Thanks for the replies. I am still not clear. Some time ago, somewhere I read that devices with USB 2.0 could be plugged into a USB 1.0 port (can't find the article now), but it would be extremely slow. Slow I don't mind, but I would appreciate knowing for a fact what are the cans or cannots before I spend dollars. Let me phrase the question this way . . . does anyone use a digital camera with a USB 2.0 cable to transfer images through their USB 1.0 port on their computer?
    Thanks

  • Mac Pro USB and FW800 ports not working

I've been reading tons of forum entries in the Apple Support Community and in other forums.  Nothing seems to answer quite what's going on with my Mac Pro Tower.
Here are the details and steps taken up to now:
    - I'm running a Mac Pro Tower (MacPro 3,1, 2x 2,8GHz Quad Core, Early 2008 model), currently running OS 10.6.8
    - I moved before the holidays in December and left my computer unplugged for over  month while away. Didn't have any issues before the move.
    - up until the last couple of weeks, I had actually been running on Leopard (yes, I'm a luddite!, please, no teasing )
    - I was trying to update my ipod touch's iOS and kept getting errors preventing it from completing the process. At first I thought it was an ipod app causing the issue after having read a few threads on that topic...
    - Also, on startup, the Mac started searching for a Bluetooth keyboard, of which I don't have, and would not detect my usb keyboard.  I would disconnect and reconnect the keyboard and the majority of the time, the Mac would then recognize my USB keyboard.
    - I decided to upgrade to Snow Leopard, which didn't help with the iPod update. I did not do a clean install.
    - Then I noticed that my USB stick wasn't working and tried it in all the usb ports (except the ones on the keyboard)
    - Also, I had removed and then reinstalled printer and scanner drivers for my All-in-one printer. After this I kept getting constant communication errors between the mac and the printer via the usb port, although I was able to print a test page.
    - I've used Hardware Test once which didn't detect any issue.
    - I reset the SMC
    - I reset the PRAM, and for a few seconds I was able to read from my USB stick, then never again, even after another PRAM reset.
    - I've cleaned the whole inside of the computer and checked for loose cables.  Cables are in so tight it's so hard to loosen them!
    - I now tested all the ports:
∞ the 2 front and 3 back USB ports are unresponsive to my usb key and to my VoyagerQ dock
∞ the front and back FW800 ports are unresponsive to my VoyagerQ dock
∞ However, the keyboard works in any fo the back ports and my USB stick is recorgnized by the USB port of the keyboard.
∞ I also plugged in my Logitech webcam into the keyboard and it works there but not in any other port.
∞ When I plug in USB powered speakers into any of the ports, they work fine
∞ And the FW400 ports are also working fine with my VoyagerQ dock
    - a few times, including once today, my mac restarted by itself.  The times before today, I thought it was because I was sort of moving back the computer in place, but today I was nowhere near the computer.
So what does this all mean? Should I do a clean install of the Mac OS? Or is it a problem with my Logic Board?
Any insight please would be helpful.  I had Apple Care and missed the reminder to renew it so I really hoping not to spend more money than necessary.

    Thanks Grant,
The battery is a start and something inexpensive to replace.
I did do a PRAM reset (command + option + P + R) and was able to hear the chime 4 times. I tried resetting it a number of times over the past week, as well as yesterday with no success in reviving the USB ports.  But isn't it weird that my USB powered speakers work by plugging them in any USB port (with the mini jack pugged in the back or front earphone plug)?
I did not use the USB ports on the keyboard until yesterday, so that is not the cause of the other USB and FW800 ports failing. But I'll follow your suggestion and not use them except for the mouse.
Another weird thing that happened yesterday, I have 16GB of RAM and I spent all day trying to troubleshoot a RAM issue that is magically fixed after leaving the computer on overnight to do an extended Hardware Test. The issue was:
    - Only 8 RAMS were being recognized
    - a red LED light appeared on the top riser
    - first I thought I had isolated the faulty RAM bar, and then a second one
    - Then going pair by pair again, I no longer saw the LED light
    - Put back all 8 bars, only 8 GB of RAM recognized
    - Left computer overnight running Hardware test (said it took almost 3 hours, with no errors)
    - Now all 16 GB are recognized!
    Thanks again for the tips

  • 2nd generation ipod shuffle not recognized by usb 3.0 port, 2nd generation ipod shuffle not recognized by usb 3.0 port

    Hi,
My 2nd generation ipod shuffle will not connect to any usb 3.0 port.  I've tried on to computers -- one Windows XP and the other Windows 7.  Any ideas?

    Hi
I had the same issue with my Late 2009 Mac mini running Mavericks and iTunes 12. When I connected my 2nd generation iPod shuffle it would blink amber once then do nothing. This seems to be a common problem with the iPod shuffle and newer versions of Mac OS X (10.6 and up) and iTunes albeit with somewhat varying symptoms but the same overall problem syncing the iPod with iTunes.
The predominant go-to solution is to give the iPod more power by either connecting the iPod directly to a USB port on the Mac or by disconnecting all other USB devices. On paper this makes sense.
What worked for me, however, was the opposite. After trying to solve this problem for hours (weeks, months), I had success ONLY after adding a low-powered 4-port USB hub to the chain between the iPod and the Mac. I suspect this had the effect of throttling the power supplied to the iPod from the Mac. I was able to perform a restore on the iPod then sync my music over.
I can't tell you much about the USB hub except that it is running at USB 1.1 speeds (12 Mb/sec). In theory a USB 1.1 extension cable should also do the trick. You might even be able to use the USB hub in old wired Apple USB keyboard. I will attach a photo of the hub I used to this post for greater clarity.
    I really hope this helps.

  • USB to Serial port delay

I have some LabVIEW code that communicates with a TI MSP430 development board via a USB serial port simulator. The hardware that does the serial to USB conversion is part of the development board. how the application works is the LabVIEW code sends a request using the VISA write VI, and the board responds.  The requests and responses are both about 5-6 bytes each, and are being sent at 115200 baud 8-N-1.
Everything works, but there is a roughly 600ms delay between sending the request and receiving the first byte of the response. After the first byte is received, the other bytes are received within 1 ms.  I assumed the firmware in the develoment board was slow, but I put a scope on the RX and TX lines coming out of the microcontroller, and the firmware responds in less than 1 ms, so the microcontroller isn't the issue. So somewhere between the UART to USB hardware, and LabVIEW, there is a 600ms delay.  I have a feeling that it is the TI development board, or drivers that are holding things up. The USB to serial stuff seems to be kind of flaky generally on these boards.  However, I wanted to come on here, and see if anyone had any ideas about how I might figure this out, or what might be wrong.  I'm going to post on the TI forums also, and see if I get a resonse there.
Has anyone seen an issue like this before using USB to serial converters?
Is there something else I could try to narrow down where the issue is, or rule out some part of the system (like making sure that it isn't an issue with the VISA drivers)?

    What is the USB-Serial chipset?
The FTDI drivers offer some latentcy optimizations.  Others do not.
Most TI MSP430 boards have their own build in USB interface based on the TUSB3410 from TI and the according driver for it is the TUSBWINVCP package. Nothing to do with FTDI.

  • USB 2.0 ports on MS-6398E board

I'm new to the MSI forums so bear with me if my style of posting is not yet quite right.
I've got an MS-6398E motherboard and in Win2K the Device Manager lists one USB 2.0 root hub and 3 USB root hubs (no numeric designation).
When I check the properties sheet for each root hub the USB 2.0 root hub shows 6 ports available and with a single device on each of 2 of the other 3 hubs it shows 1, 1 and 2 ports available.
Patently something is not right because it seems that I have 12 ports in total on a motherboard that only has 6 to begin with.
Ideally I would like the 2 devices I currently have plus any future devices to run off the USB 2.0 ports because they're faster.
    So I'm open to suggestions.
    Thanks in advance.

I just installed my new GNB Max a few hours ago and it uses the same ICH4 southbridge as your board so therfor all the peripherals are the same.
I also see 6 ports on the USB2.0 hub and 2 on each of the other ones.
Looks normal to me since they all seem to work.
