USB-9213 Calibration question

I am considering purchasing a USB-9213 16 channel TC module but wanted to be sure that it could be calibrated in-house. The calibration procedure posted on NI website says it requires plugging the module into a NI cDAQ-9172 chassis to do this. My question is, can the calibration be performed over the USB connection instead or is there some additional features/connections in the backplane of the chassis that are not avaivable over the USB? Thanks.

Hi hgcdte,
It is required for proper calibration to use a cDAQ Chassis.  The communciation is different enough that it would affect the calibration procedure.  Post back if you have questions!

  • Thermocouple device 9213, 3 questions

    Hello Everybody,
I am using the NI USB 9213 with the USB 9162 carrier. I am taking measurements(continuous mode) by using all 16 channels. However, there are three newbie questions I would like to ask.
Firstly, I am using 3 DAQ assistant VIs. Each one uses 5 channels(the third one uses 6) that represent an area as perceived by me, namely, Upper, Middle, Lower. In order to get measurements from all three tasks, I have put true constants to the stop input of each VI and have connected the error out to error in to acquire measurements from each DAQ in an order. My question is, If, When I am changing the temperature of a channel that belongs to Upper VI and at this specific moment my program is acquiring data from the Middle VI, is the delay of response negligible?
Secondly, I would prefer to use one Daq assistant for all channels, but is there a way to plot the responses in more than one graph?
Lastly, for the former case where I am using the three tasks, If I change the acquisition mode in High speed, will this apply to all channels, even though they are used in three different tasks?
    Thank you in advance,
    Ioannis

Using 3 separate DAQ Assistants makes no sense. Use one and then you can just use the Split Signal function.

  • Vmware not fully recognizing USB-9213

    Hi All:
I am running VMware Fusion 2.0.7 hosting WinVista SP2.  I plug in a USB-9213, and I only get a partial recognition of the device.  I get the New Hardware Found for the 9216 carrier module, but never the same for the 9213 module connected in the carrier.  Of course this means DAQmx and MAX don't see the device to let me use it.  I can install successfully a virtual 9213 in MAX, but I can't get the real device fully installed.  VMWare is running in Mac OS 10.5.8, and the USB is configured so VMWare can see it and use it as the partial New Hardware Found path seems to show.  Any ideas how to get through the last hurdle?  I know the USB-9213 is good, since it installs and runs fine in WinXP machine I have access to.

    Hi Brad:
I just finished upgrading to MAX 4.6.2 and DAQmx 9.0.2.  (Should I look for even newer versions?)  This represents progress, as the NI-9213 is now seen in Device Manager (and System Profiler on the Mac side), but it is still not seen in MAX.  I could create a simulated NI-9213 in my older versions, and I still can, but the one I create now does not work while the old simulated one did work.  The new simulated NI-9213 always fails Self-Test.  (And deleting the simulated device hangs MAX.  It can be deleted only on the restart of MAX)  The fact that I could create a working simulated NI-9213 under the older DAQmx version 8.8 had led me to believe that I had a new enough version.  The basic issue is still there though, I can not see the real NI-9213 in MAX, so I can not use it in LabVIEW.  It does not matter if I have the simulated NI-9213 present or not in MAX, the real one is never seen there, but it is always seen by Device Manager now.  The simulated one has also gone invisible to LabVIEW while the older one could be used there.  By the way, sorry for being dyslexic yesterday when I kept typing 9123 instead of 9213.

  • Mid 2010 15" i5 Battery Calibration Questions

    Hi, I have a mid 2010 15" MacBook Pro 2.4GHz i5.
Question 1: I didn't calibrate my battery when I first got my MacBook Pro (it didn't say in the manual that I had to). I've had it for about a month and am doing a calibration today, is that okay? I hope I haven't damaged my battery? The calibration is only to help the battery meter provide an accurate reading of how much life it has remaining, right?
Question 2: After reading Apple's calibration guide, I decided to set the MacBook Pro to never go to sleep (in Energy Saver System Preference) and leave it on overnight so it would run out of power and go to sleep, then I'd leave it in that state for at least 5 hours before charging it. When I woke up, the light on the front wasn't illuminated. It usually pulsates when in Sleep. Expectedly, it wouldn't wake when pressing buttons on the keyboard. So, what's happened? Is this Safe Sleep? I didn't see any "Your Mac is on reserve battery and will shut down" dialogues or anything similar, as I was asleep! I've left it in this state while I'm at work and will charge it this afternoon. Was my described method okay for calibration or should I have done something different?
Question 3: Does it matter how quickly you drain your battery when doing a calibration? i.e is it okay to drain it quickly (by running HD video, Photo Booth with effects etc) or slowly (by leaving it idle or running light apps)?
    Thanks.

A1. You're fine calibrating the battery now. You might have gotten more accurate readings during the first month if you'd done it sooner, but no harm has been done.
A2. Your machine has NOT shut down; it has done exactly what it was supposed to do. When the power became critically low, it first wrote the contents of RAM to the hard drive, then went to sleep. When the battery was completely drained some time later, the MBP went into hibernation and the slepp light stopped pulsing and turned off. In that state the machine was using no power at all, but the contents of your RAM were still saved. Once the AC adapter was connected, a press of the power button would cause those contents to be reloaded, and the machine would pick up again exactly where you left off. It is not necessary to wait for the battery to be fully charged before using the machine on AC power, but do leave the AC adapter connected for at least two hours after the battery is fully charged. Nothing that you say you've done was wrong, and nothing that you say has happened was wrong.
A3. No, it does not matter.

  • USB 6009 - Calibration of Analog Input (Mac)

    Hi,
I have recently acquired a NI USB 6009. I'm using it under labview 7.1 on Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger).
I can run the software examples and the datalogger without problems. However, the device seems
not to be properly calibrated, and I can't figure out how to do it from the manual. When I connect
pin 1&2 (analog in 0) to pin 32 and 31 (GND and 5V ref voltage) the software claims that the
measured voltage it ~3.7V (a multimeter confirms that it is in fact 5.0V). Can anyone help
    trouble shooting this ?
    Thank you in advance,
    Niels

A little update : After thinking some more I realized that it's because
the USB 6009 is in differential mode, and I hadn't connected one pin. Now
however, I have trouble figuring out where to change/set this. None of
the programs (e.q. Acquire One Voltage.vi) seems to define this, so where
    is this defined ?
    Thanks,
    Niels

  • Macbook Battery Calibration Questions

    Greetings!
I just bought a MacBook today (the mid-range white model) but I am a complete tyro in the Apple world. I have a few questions with respect to the calibration process. The manual is lucid with respect to everything except for three issues:
    1. The instructions make no mention of whether or not I can turn on my MacBook and use it during the first charge cycle (that is, the charging cycle before the two hour normal use stage).
    2. The instructions do not indicate whether or not I have to wait until the battery is completely dead during the "die-down" stage (the supposed five hour sleep stage) before I plug in the charger and fully charge the battery again. Is it all right to plug in the power adapter after the computer has slept for five hours while the computer is still in sleep mode?
    3. If for some reason I screwed up my first calibration (perhaps due to mishandling the process in (1) or (2) above), is it detrimental to immediately run another calibration process (i.e. treat the second "power up" cycle as step one of the calibration process)?
The reason why I raise these issues is because I am currently calibrating my MacBook as I speak. I plugged my adapter into the computer, turned it on, and ran programs (iTunes, CD ripping, Wifi) while the initial charge cycle was running. I have let the computer fully charge and have left it fully charged for a little over two hours. I am about to disconnect it and move to the "die-down" stage (that is, I will let it die down into sleep mode). I am concerned about whether or not I have faulted at any point in the calibration process. Any help regarding my questions would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time and consideration.

And yes, it is ok the plug the adaptor while the computer is in sleep mode. The battery will charge as normal.
No, I think this is wrong. You need to let it sleep without the power adapter. This causes the battery to deplete most of the remaining reserve charge. If you look in the manual on pages 23-24, steps 4-6 are critical. Basically it says to drain your battery till it goes to sleep (step 4). Then let it sleep for 5 hours (step 5). Then plug in the ac adapter and leave it in till it is fully charged (step 6).
So do not plug in the AC adapter until it has either been off for 5 hours or in sleep mode for 5 hours.
Personally I don't see how you can shut it off instead of sleep mode for the 5 hours, as once it goes to sleep mode, from low battery, you cannot wake it to turn it off unless you plug in the AC and that defeats the whole purpose...

I have not yet did the clean uninstall (that yall suggested in that post) since last night. after i did all that last night,i installed the driver and berry would not show up on windows explorer,so then i tried to install desktop again and it left that message on my original post up top,so I restored my commuter and desktop was there again and working (I only really use app loader)    then I uninstaled it again.(not the clean way this time) and started installing and unistalling the drivers ,which lead to no prevail.            I would like to be able to use the app loader, and I would REALLY like for my phone to show up on my PC again so i can juggle my media around from SD card to device and all that stuff.
what would u suggest I do first sir?

At the end of this install try connecting the Blackberry to the PC without Desktop manager running.
See if the device comes up correctly. If not run Windows update with the Blackberry plugged in. The
device should be recognized and the device drivers added.

  • Another calibration question

    hey all,
when calibrating my MacBook battery, once the battery is fully charged and i've let it set for at least two hours with the adapter plugged in, i unplug it and let the battery start to drain. Question: At this point in the process, does it disrupt the calibration process if i shut it down or let it go to sleep, so long as i don't plug it back into the power adapter? sometimes, while in the "discharging phase" of the process, i have no choice but to take my computer with me somewhere, which inevitably means putting it to sleep or shutting it down. i don't think it would interupt the calibration process but i want to be sure. thanx very much!
    David

It is ok to put your MB in to sleep in this step of the process. See your MacBook User's Guide on pade 24, step #3.

  • Usb with infrared question

Can somebody help with the question is there a usb stick with an infrared eye for the macbook, because a macbook doen't have an infrared poort.
I want send data from my divecomputer with an infraredpoort straight into my macbook.
Is there a special bran that I should choose.
    Thanks for help Frank

This is an old PDA, which is no longer produced. It's only means to connect is through serial port to a PC. Unfortunately I don't have a PC or the original serial port.
My only alternative is through the IRDA port, but it's looking more and more like I won't be able to do it.
The PDA I have is a Vadem Clio, also sold under the name Sharp Mobilon 6000.

  • MacBookPro - USB devices/HUB  question... thank you

I am a new Mac user... and I love it so far. I have the new MacBook Pro and purchased the Airport Express and a Belkin USB hub along with it. I have the USB hub connected to a USB port in my computer (and a few externals connected to that: mouse, external LaCie hard drive, etc.). My question is, when I want to go wireless and move the computer to a different location... how do I safely/properly disconnect the USB Hub? If I just pull it out (gently, of course) I get a window popup that says something along the lines of "device was not properly/safely disconnected... etc." I don't want to cause any short or long-term damage. I just want to know the proper way to disconnect USB devices (hubs, mouse, external hard drive, etc.) before using the wireless feature of the notebook.
    Thanks!

    Bob,
You're awesome, thanks! I tried that (pulled the external HD icon to the trash) then pulled out the USB from the Macbook and didn't get that "warning" box! I am currently only using two peripherals in my hub (a printer and the LaCie hard drive)... will I only need to do this "eject" thing for the external HDs? Or are there any other peripherals (I might use in future) that I will need to do this for as well?
    Thank you again!!

  • IPod USB 2.0 only ( with dock to USB/FW Cable ) question

    Hi
I at last want to buy me an iPod but ...
Since the iPods are USB 2.0 now & my Mac has USB 1.x & FW 400 , you understand for using the iPod as an external & preferred bootable HD I need a FW connection to the Mac ( for data transfer ) & if i read correct this splitter cable only uses the FW for loading the iPods Battery. If so this means i still need to connect via USB for music / data transfer & the bootable HD option ain't there .
I really want to clear this out cause if this info as i just provided it , this will make the iPod less interresting to me & iPod mini doesn't support a camera / mic connection which also makes that less interesting.
At the end if above info is correct i rather wait to buy an iPod together with a new Mac ( do new Mac's with usb 2.0 support bootinf from a usb 2.0 HD ??? )
Please answer this asap cause i need to tell the person what gift i want & god i want to tell him " Just get me that iPod " ( it's in the right pricerange )
    thx

Hello....I just purchased a brand new iPod 20gb color photo last night and I have a couple questions myself, relating to this topic.....
I have a first generation scroll wheel iPod that this is replacing but I still have all the accessories from the first generation iPod....do you know for certain if the charger from way back then will work with the brand new iPod....I know the actual firewire cable is different because of the dock connector but if I purchase one of the new firewire cable w/ dock connector can I use it with the old charger (brick)

  • Ipod with Titanium (Firewire/USB 2.0 questions)

I have already read some of the previous threads and would like some expert help (suggestions).
I have the 867 Titanium and didn't carefully read that the new ipod is USB 2.0 only compatible and NOT firewire. It takes me like 10 hours+ to load my songs on this thing!
I am already using the PCMCIA card slot for my wireless/airport express network.
    My questions are...
    1. Should I just buy a second card and use it when I upload or update my ipod?
    2. Is there an adapter that allows dual access (wireless & USB 2.0) or just USB 2.0 to Firewire?
    3. Is there any way to change the firmware or the software package within the ipod such that it DOES update using firewire?
I don't like having to plug my ipod in now, and wait until tomorrow afternoon before its finished, seriously!
I appreciate any help that you can offer, thanks!

While we (wife & I) have both a 20GB+HP (updated software) and a 60GB Black, I was very disappointed in the new 60 Gb model(last generation, whatever) as it won't support Firewire. My wife's 20 Gb updates in roughly 15 seconds, something the new 60 requires 15-20 minutes to do, identical updates, side by side.
I say this because the 60 was an extended warranty replacement for my trusty 40GB Gen III, which made me an iPod freak and as far as I know the first old guy "on my block" to have an iPod. I'm a Street rodder and many of my associates now use them as their music sources also.
I was told, or actually, it was inferred that the "Firewire Support" was abandoned because most PC users have only USB ports and technology, and they are the "Market". . . By persons inside Apple . . a step backward, it seems to me.

  • Multiple USB keyboard controller question

hey everyone ... Happy new year by the way !
quick question .. i want to use 2 USB controllers to play one source ( software synth )
I have a USB audio interface with a midi keyboard  controller patched in the mdi input jack and would like to use another USB keyboard ( in another available USB port ) to access the same source track .
When I record enable the track with the instrument , my midi controller can the synth but the USB one won't
I checked the audio midi setup utility and coreMidi recognizes both midi inputs but Logic Pro X won't
Does this has to be set up through the environment window of Logic ? I thought that coreMidi would take care of things automatically for me .
    thanks for your help !

    Hi
Under normal circumstances, 2 keyboards that show up OK in Audio MIDI Setup should work fine.
In Audio MIDI Setup (MIDI Window), click the "Test Setup" button and play some notes on each keyboard. You should see a blue flash on the Interface Icons in AMS, and you should hear a beep through the System Audio when you release the keys. (Turn this off when done).
In Logic, check the MIDI transmission channels of each keyboard (some instrument plugs are channel-sensitive).

  • 3Gs and Nike Plus calibration question

I know that there are alot of threads that talk about the calibration issues with the Nike + and 3Gs. I too have been having a problem calibrating my running. I have been able to calibrate the walk just fine.
Here is what I have found. I can calibrate the run part of Nike + if I run at a pace of 5.6 miles per hour or faster. I am only comfortable running at about 5 miles per hour.
Here is my question. Can you only calibrate the run feature if you are going at a set pace be Nike?

I can also only calibrate walking. When I try running calibration it shows a pace of 20min/mile which is obscenely wrong. Were you able to fix this?

  • 3 mem stick in dual mode - how high + external usb HDD boot question

Hi guys. I have 2 questions:
    1. If I put 2X512 mb Kingmax DDR 433 mem sticks in one channel and the 1 gb stick in another one will I be able to run mem clock on 209 MHz in dual channel mode (because of memory controller limitations)? Is there any chance to break 200 fsb limit with this memory combination.
    2. I have Philips SPD 5100CC external USB HDD. Last night I tried to install windows xp on it but after first reboot I am getting the messsage Windows could not boot ........windows root\system32\hal.dll is missing or corrupted. I have latest bios and the drive is listed in boot menu under Hard Drive option and so is my USB flash drive. I boot without any problem from USB flash. Is this related with the mobo or external HDD encosure?

well, one thing is sure, you won't get dual channel if you use 3 memory sticks. the problem is that sometimes you cannot even boot with 3 modules installed. check the mobo manual on the possible memory modules configurations
