USB Adapter Question

I feel pretty ridiculous asking this; but I searched all the similar topics and am still confused.
I have a first gen. ipod nano and an ipod usb power adapter.
The usb cord that came with the nano works just fine and connects to my old imac, to the new intel imac, etc. The same USB cord will NOT connect to the USB port on the adapter. The adapter is not a firewire adapter (it is labeled USB and I can visually tell the difference.) I am not putting it in upside down. The thing does not fit. Is my adapter faulty, is there a difference between USB 1.1 and 2.0 ports, or am I just going insane?

Wow, that is really, really weird. Any way you could post a picture somewhere? (try imageshack, or make a video of it and go to YouTube) I'd really like to help, but without seeing it, I don't know what to say. Post back if you can't, and I'll see if I can't figure out a way to help.

  • How to get an N wireless USB adapter to transfer data faster that 54 Mbps

How to get an N wireless USB adapter to transfer data faster that 54 Mbps? I am running FIOS 10/2 and connected to a ActionTec  M1424WR router. Any help will be appreciated.

I have to ask the question, why are you in need of 802.11N speeds?  Are you transferring lots of files between other PC's on your network or are you simply connecting to the Internet.
Remember if your Internet speed is 10/2 which means 10 meg down and 2 meg up having 300 meg capability WLAN connection will not be noticeable.   Your bottleneck is your Internet connection of 10/2.

  • How to get wireless usb adapter linksys working to get on internet?

Hi, does anybody know any general way to get my linksys wireless g usb adapter to work on Solaris 10? I plug it in and nothing happens. This is a question

A general option would be to search the HCL on bigadmin.com and buy/swap/barter for a supported adapter.
Another option is to switch to OpenSolaris and search the aforementioned opensolaris community for supported hardware and then buy/swap/barter for supported hardware.

  • Safe Output Rating for 240V USB adapter to charge my IPod Touch4.

Is it safe to use a 240V USB adapter I have for my camera that has an Output rating of 4.4V  400mA to charge my new IPod Touch4?  I note that similar comercial (non Apple) products that claim to be compatible with the IPod Touch4 have a rating of 5V 1A.  I would be grateful for any advice on this subject.

I have to say that the likelyhood anyone being able to "confirm" almost anything on a public forum is remote.
    I can tell you though;
a lower voltage than the one required will not damage an iPod. However, a lower voltage may not provide enough "energy" (voltage potential, or EMF) to push the current around the circuit. So it wouldn't work.
A higher voltage than the one required could possibly burn the electronics inside the iPod. One completely broken iPod.
A charger that does not provide enough current may either charge slowly or not at all. I still believe 400mA is not enough, especially if it has a low output voltage as well.
The iPod should draw only the current it requires, so one that supplies more than enough current will not damage it. However, personally, I would not use a charger that supplied (for example) 2400mA, with an iPod.
Considering the cost of your iPod, isn't it wiser to spend a little money now, on either an Apple charger or at the very least, a proper 5 volt USB charger that supplies more than enough current (the mA), rather than coughing up for a new iPod because the charger you used damaged the iPod?
Actually, two questions you can answer, which might help.
What make is this camera charger anyway?
Does it have a recognised (proper) USB output connection?
You say that you have three opposing views. In fact, all three of us are effectively saying don't use this charger. Perhaps we have confused you by trying to explain it.

  • Linksys USB Adapter hookup?

I currently have a Power Mac G4 operating on OS 10.2. It has no internal Bluetooth or Airport. I have a Linksys Wireless Router, which my PowerBook laptop hooks up too with no problem.
My question is--can I connect my Power Mac to the wireless network by way of a USB adapter? I currently have an adapter, which works fine with my Tivo, but I can't seem to get it operating with my computer. I think it could be the Network settings or possibly a driver? But all the drivers I try to download are Windows only!

  • HELP! 3G USB Adapter

I am a current Verizon customer with a basic calling plan with pay as you go data plan (non-3g phone). I will be traveling soon and I want to add a 3g USB adapter to my netbook. Can I add the service to my plan on a temporary basis? Or as a pay as you go service? I've searched the web site and it is not helpful at all regarding this issue.

    Hello delal,
Thank you for reaching out to the community on this topic. May I ask where are you traveling to? The equipment needed and prices for the service that you are inquiring about will great depend on where you will be traveling. For example, if you are traveling internationally then I would suggest a device with global capabilities.
Also, what is the make & model of your current device? I can check to see if your current device can be used as a tethered modem. If this is the case then we do have internet service that you can add and remove as you need it. Keep in mind that by not having the service for the full bill cycle may results in proration of the data allowance as well as the cost. If you can provide me with some additional info by answering the questions above then I can certainly provide you with a tailored solution for you.
    Thank you...

  • D-Link Bluetooth USB Adapter DBT-120

Is this adapter still the "most" compatible USB adapter for the Mac Pro? I have it and it works great but the option for waking up the computer with devices attached to this adapter is unavailable. Do you have to have the pre-installed Apple Bluetooth module for this functionality?

On the D-Link question, yes probably so. BT is finally getting so common, you don't see many choices with 3rd party suppliers.
On the WAKE option, you'll need the real Apple hardware. I just went through the same thing myself on my Dual G5. The bluetooth mouse wouldn't wake the computer from sleep mode using the DBT-120. Once I installed the Apple Bluetooth module, the BT preference panel gave me the wake/sleep option and everything works fine now.
The G5 model's BT and AirPort modules were DIY, the Pro model should be also? Others here may know for sure. If so, I'm betting it's also a lot easier!
    Hope this helps.

  • Help!  USB Adapter Advice

I wonder if anyone might assist in letting me know of a compatible USB adapter? My Airport Extreme is presently connected to a Dell Dimension 9200, which I want to make wireless.
    Thanks in advance!

Have a look at this web page regarding compatibility for the latest AirPort Extreme base station.
You should be able to use almost any (Wi-Fi) wireless adapter with the PC in question. Check specifications and supported operating systems before you buy. You may also want to consider an appropriate PCI card or an external wireless Ethernet bridge (also known as a gaming adapter) instead of a USB adapter.

  • Is this a counterfeit USB adapter?

Last week I bought an Apple lightning to USB adapter at a large Dutch webshop through one of their partners.
When I saw the packaging I immediately found it suspicious, the cable was in cheap plastic and there were no references to Apple.
The cable itself was also different from the one that came with my phone. It looks of very poor quality. See the picture below.
I contacted the large webshop but they don't want to do anything with this.
In short their answer was "send it back to our patner, and you will get your money back".
Now I've read many reviews about that partner shop, and there are many more people that do not trust the Apple product from that shop.
It looks like the seller says (upon inquiry) it is bulk purchasing.
I already contacted Apple, but no response yet. So my question to you is, can you confirm:
Is the right cable on the picture below indeed fake? Our does Apple sell these cables in such poor quality in bulk?
    Thank you.

Thank you! Do you also know where I can find a complete list of authorized online resellers in the Netherlands? I only found this US list: http://salesresources.apple.com/sp/catalog/.
For your information: a photo of the nice packaging with adhesive tapes
The item was sold was sold for approximately 20 euros. The official price is around 30. In the Apple online store it is 26 euros with shipment.

  • USB adapter program

I brought in a USB adapter to the Lincoln Park Chicago IL store to trade it in under the USB adapter trade in program.  The adapter I brought is labeled as Apple, however the USB port is crooked most words are in Chinese except where is says iPod Power Adapter Designed by Apple in California and some misc other text.  It has an Apple logo on it, but based on the crooked USB port and the majority of the text being in Chinese it does not look genuine to me.  I was told by the associate that the program was only for 3rd party chargers.  I thought; (1) the program was for 3rd party chargers and those in question, and (2) the local store personal would not be able to try to test the authenticity.  One more note, the Apple tech said that it looks like an original generation iPod charger, but she also noted that those had Firewire so she didn't really know why mine was USB.  Can I get some clarity on the program - should my charger have been eligible?  It's kind of pain to have waited at the store and then be turned away.

    call 1-800-694-7466
then give them your serial # of your iPhone
(settings > general > about... serial number
it is a mistake if you cant find the return shipping label
they will give you a solution about what to do next
    hope that helps

  • Airport card vs ethernet vs 3rd party usb adapter.

Hello, I hope someone here can help. I have a G4 tower 8493 and purchased Airport Extreme so I can connect an iPad. After reading tons of support questions it looks like I have 3 options. Purchase an airport card and give up some speed, connect G4 directly to airport exteme with ethernet or purchase a 3rd party usb adapter.
First - are those options correct?
    Second - which is better/stable?
Third - if ehernet is chosen, what exactly would I buy and where would this cable go?
Thanks so much in advance, I really have no idea what I should do.

    Hello,
The Airport 802.11b card & the USB Wifi adapter limited by USB1.1 speeds will have about the same theoretical limit of speed, but I get far better range & speed using the USB adapters, & the USB adapters can do WPA2, which Airport cannot.

Another option is a PCI card, more expensive, but more speed...
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Sonnet%20Technology/N80211PCI/
Not sure if this cheaper one works on G4s, I'd ask them...

You have a built-in Ethernet port, but make sure it works before going that route.
I'd chose the USB Wifi myself.

  • Laserwriter 16/600 connection with parallel to USB adapter

I have a mac mini and and the great ole workhorse Apple laswerwriter 16/600 PS printer. I bought a parallel to USB adapter cable but have been unable to get it to work.
Also the ethernet connector on the printer is a very small type connector unlike the current ethernet type ports. Would I be better off trying to find this type of an adapter?
I have spent hours searching and can't believe I am the first one to ask this question.
    Thanks All!

The Ethernet connection supports Ethernet communication via an AUI-15 connection, when used with an external AAUI-to-twisted pair (RJ-45) transceiver. It is located between the LocalTalk (MiniDIN8) and Fax (RJ-11 4-pin modular jack) ports. Its Icon resembles:
    <__>
To use it, you need only purchase a transceiver, available for US$5 to 10 at eBay or used computer dealers.
