USB alert

As I begin to sync music into my Nano I am alerted that my USB connection is 1.0 and I should connect to a USB 2.0 port to improve performance (speed). If theUSB ports on my computer are 1.0 port is it possible to upgrade to 2.0?

Just go to your local computer hardware store and ask for a USB upgrade
Won't do any good.

I just need to know your computer model

  • Powermac 8500 USB Card

I have bought a PCI USB card for my Powermac 8500. The Card has a Opti 82C861 Firelink chip. This card works with my USB Mouse, Keyboard and Gamepad and I would like to use USB pendrives with my computer. I have tried with my Digitor 2gig USB pendrive but I don't think it is being detected properly. Would this be possible?
The USB card is the only PCI card I have installed in my mac in the bottom slot.
I reinstalled Mac OS 9.0.4 and upgraded it to 9.1 after I installed my USB card.
The installed drivers are whatever Mac OS 9.0.4 and 9.1 have installed and also the USB Adapter Card Support 1.4.1

Because the "USB Adapter Card Support 1.4.1" drivers pre-date the OS 9.1 Update, you should not use that installer beyond OS 8.6. OS 9.1 provides broader USB support and its included drivers can be manually installed on systems running OS 8.6 for better recognition of devices. You should find the following drivers in the Extensions folder, with #2 being essential for functionality of USB flash/hard drives:
    (1) USB Support
    (2) USB Mass Storage Support
    (3) USB Device Extension
    (4) USB Software Locator
    (5) HID Library
    (6) SerialShimLib
    (7) ENETShimLib
How many ports are on the card? On older legacy Macs, I generally installed USB 1.1 cards having 2 ports. An external powered hub is useful, if there are many devices to connect - especially a bus-powered hard drive. I'd also recommend installing more memory. OS 9.1 could use a little more than 64 MBs of installed memory.

  • USB over current notice and other problems

I have a 17" MacBook Pro (original 2.16 Core Duo) that has a USB over current notice pop up. The pop up says that the USB hub it's attached to will be deactivated. I'm trying to troubleshoot it but can't figure out what's causing it. What exactly does this notice mean? The ports all still work. The iSight doesn't work (not even recognized in System Profiler), and I know that's on the USB bus. Could that be the problem? I noticed the pop up seemed to occur with movement. I've found that I can recreate the USB alert at any time by applying pressure to the bottom case, in the center right behind the RAM cover. This may sound strange, but while trying to figure this out, I was pressing around on the top case to the sides of the trackpad, and when doing so it made a crackling sound. It did this again when I applied pressure and the keyboard and trackpad became unresponsive. Does anyone have a clue? Thanks.

Try http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 to see if you can find the iSight problem.
If your iSight is still not recognized in System Profiler, you likely have hardware problems. (That hardware problem could also account for your problem "with movement" and the "crackling sound.") Contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service. Tell your service provider about all your issues. My guess is that at least some are related.
If you can get your iSight working again, consider the info from these Apple technical articles:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411
      http://support.apple.com/kb/TA25685
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1151
      http://support.apple.com/kb/TA26511
      http://support.apple.com/kb/TA25618
It seems possible to me that an unpowered (or possibly an underpowered) hub could be causing your symptoms. It also seems possible that a faulty power supply on a powered USB hub could cause bus current overload without your knowing that your hub is operating like a non-powered unit even though you have it plugged in to wall power. If you cannot check your hub's power supply, ask you Apple Technician to do it when you have your MBP checked.

  • Lens list and help

    Hi all,
I bought and downloaded my LR3 upgrade yesterday and installed it on my Win7 64-bit box. However I have a few issues that I'm not sure whether they're expected or not :-)
If I click on Help > Lightroom Help or hit F1, I get a dialog box that says: The help files for Lightroom were not properly installed. Please re-install and try again. I re-ran the installer and chose the Repair option but that didn't change anything. I have not tried a complete uninstall/reinstall cycle (urgh).
Connecting my Nikon D300 does not enable the tethering to work. It says No camera detected. I clearly hear the Windows USB alerts as I turn the camera on and off, though. Do I need to install any other software? Like something from Nikon? The Nikon Tether plugin is enabled in the Plugin Manager.
In the Develop module, if I enable Profile Corrections, no lenses are listed under Lens Profile. Do I need to download these seperately?
    I shoot in RAW (NEF).
Other than that, LR3 is awesome and I'm totally blown away by the noise reduction!
    - Lutz

Yes, the rest of Lightroom happily displays the correct metadata for my images:
It's just that there is nothing in the Lens Correction section.
Hmmm. When I try to navigate into Lens Profiles in C:\Users\All Users\Adobe\CameraRaw, I get a Access Denied error.... Hmmmm. OK.
Well, the ACLs on that folder were incorrect. I took Ownership of the folder and can now go into this folder and all the subfolders, but no change in Lightroom, still no makes or lenses (after a LR3 restart).
Ahh, if I Run LR3 as Admin, it works. I'll change the ACLs again.
Thanks much for your help. I guess I'll have to live without Help for now.

  • Trouble with Plantronics Headset on my G5

I use a Plantronics USB headset/mic for online racing, and almost from the time I've gotten it (as a gift) when I use Teamspeex, it emits a loud HUM whenever I push to talk. Naturally, this isn't good. It also started acting up in iChat as well. Now, when I plugged it in last night, I got a message on the screen saying "USB Alert, the device you plugged in is drawing too much current, the port will be disabled". So, I guess what I'm asking is, is this thing shot? I'm running 10.3.9 on a dual 2.0ghz G5 tower, no mods or anything like that, very plain vanilla.
I've tried plugging it into every other USB port I have, and no dice. Although, once in a GREAT while it will work with no troubles. Any ideas?

Get a powered USB hub and try again when the PowerMac G5 is reset and accepting it.

When my iPhone is connected (via the Lightning cable) to the usb port in my car, the alert tones are no longer played through the car speaker or the phone.  This previously worked, but has randomly stopped working. help!

I took my iPhone to the Service center of M/s RSG INFOTECH PRIVATE LIMITED on April 17, 2014.
Why are you posting in this forum about what occured with an independent service provider?  How is is at all relevant to Apple??  In fact, service by any person or business not authorized by Apple voids any waranty.

  • Apple USB Modem - incoming call alert

I access dial up through an Apple USB Modem. In the Modem tab of Network Preferences, I've asked my MacBook to "Notify me of incoming calls while connected to the Internet," by playing "alert sound when receiving a call." Yet nothing happens when I receive an incoming call: the calling line hears a busy signal, but no alerts, no messages, no internet interruption occurs on my MacBook.
What am I missing? Do I need a certain type of service on my incoming phone line to make the alert work? (Because I use this line for internet only, I have no Caller ID, etc., on it.) Or should I change my MacBook settings in some way?
Any advice would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

You would have to subscribe to a call-waiting service from your telephone company on that line for the feature to work.
However, if you use that line for internet only, would you be expecting voice calls on that line?

  • MSI Forum HQ USB flashing tool!!!

    Hi guys,
We the forum team have developed  a new way of flashing.
You no longer need a floppy or anything, just an USB-stick.
The tool has been tested together with MSI and as far as we have done our testing, there are no problems at all.
As long as the USB-stick is FAT or FAT32 formatted!
However, flashing is allways risky, so if it goes bad it's your own fault, but that goes for all flashing you do.
This tool is intended to flash MSI retail motherboards and laptops,
but if needs you can use any other machine to prepare the necessary stuffs and the USB stick there,
before move the USB stick to the msi product that you want to flash.
The way it works is simple: Download the package and download the BIOS from the MSI website that you want to flash.
    The rest is straight forward.
Make sure that your board is set to be able to boot from USB.
So turn on USB Legacy Support in the BIOS.
Boot and press F11 to get the boot-popup and select your USB-device to boot.
(some boards have a different key, like K8N Master uses ESC for the boot-menu)
What ever you do, make sure you read all warnings!
The forum nor MSI is responsible if it fails for you.
Nor is this software supported by MSI technical support!
Please report problems/buggs if you find them.
    currently supported OS ( both 32 & 64 bit):
Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows 2003, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 (also Windows in Virtualbox under Linux!)
    (all kind of versions)
NOTE: If you are having problems getting your USB device to boot correctly, you may need to format it correctly as the geometry data may be incorrect. You can do that by pickup option "Fix My USB key" from the Tool or by using >>> THIS <<< tool here! For future usage you can skip this step, it need to be done only once if your stick need adjustment.
This topic is for discussion of and help with the USB flash tool only. If you have a problem with your PC and need help then do not hijack this topic, please start your own new topic in the correct area of this forum!

    Hi Max,
"This file is a antivirus testing program? "
yes, the latest version accidentally really become a test for any AV....
in latest 1.13b Avast! no more report false positive,
but all others AV software starting reporting a different false positive results:(all AV listed didn't report false positive problem in a provisional version) Avast! was fixed and no more report the false passivity and passed, but all other AV software started to be a lot confused...

    Dr.Web: Trojan.Blakhal
    Bit.Defender: Trojan.JS.Obsq.Gen
Just to clarify one more time, all things listed are false alert coused and exist in latest version only due Avast! fix.(1.13b)
didn't continue to test with rest of AV...
only Avast! and NOD32 report no problem detected.
in 1.13a all false positive listed above doesn't exist, but only Avast! report false positive.
Hoverer, the wave of false positive mess has been resolved along with Avast! false positive as well.
    New version is ready, 1.13c:
    - fixed false positive wave which confusing most of AV software. (all AV do not report any problems anymore)
    - fixed 3 minor bugs:
           * after finished work the tool do not quit normal as expected and hang instead, that happend in x32bit OS only when used has been asked for reboot and answered with "No". e.g. in described specified case.
           * 4th mainboard filter report positive results in some Biostart mainboard and this cause tool to false ID some Biostar board as MSI one.
           * added missing drive letter as USB key choice ("I")

  • External usb ultranav keyboard; no trackpoint using ibm/lenovo driver in Win XP

I just got an external USB ultranav travel keyboard (product #31P9490) and I am trying to make it work with Windows XP.
When I just plug in the keyboard, the default windows USB keyboard and mouse drivers work well enough that I can use the keyboard as well as the touchpad and the trackpoint.
But, when I install the two official drivers (one for the keyboard "hotkeys", the other for the touchpad and trackpoint from Synaptics) then I lose the trackpoint fuctions.  These are the two latest drivers linked to this web page:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-60649
After the Synaptics driver is installed, the option to enable the trackpoint is greyed out. All the touchpad functions (scroll zones, tapping, etc.) seem to work. The keyboard function keys work also. But, the trackpoint is non-responsive.  The "Synaptics touchstyck" driver doesn't seem to do anything.  The trackpoint is no longer associated with the generic USB mouse driver, so the trackpoint stick and three buttons no longer do anything.
My situation is similar to what is described here, except I don't think there is any mechanical problems since the trackpoint works fine with the default mouse driver:

I tried the drivers on two different Dell PCs and got the same result.
Has anybody have one of these keyboards gotten the trackpoint to work with the IBM/lenovo drivers?
    Thanks,
    Doug

I'm obviously doing something wrong. Several reboots later, I'm stuck with the same inability to turn the touchpad off. Here is what I did.
    1) Uninstall the driver - success. Prompted to reboot.
    2) Rebooted.
    3) Installed installation program (started at page MIGR-60649); ran the downloaded file (q2kyb02us13.exe) and changed install path from the default C:\IBMTOOLS\drivers\q2kyb02us13 to c:\Drivers\q2kyb02us13 .
    4) Ran setup.exe from that location.
    5) It seemed to work properly and I was prompted to reboot. I started the process but was alerted to a window telling me to check the installation and possibly redo it for compatibility with recommended settings. I did *not* do this but forced the reboot.
    6) Back up, I clicked on Start ... Devices and Printers, and right-clicked on IBM Keyboard with UltraNav. I had options for the mouse and keyboard, but nothing about Ultranav.
    7) I tried to uninstall, but this driver no longer appeared on my list of installed programs. Yikes! I tried again, this time going with the default location (C:\IBMTOOLS\drivers\q2kyb02us13) and catching the compatibility wizard - and letting it reinstall with recommended settings.
    8) Reboot and still can't update the Ultranav - and still don't see it listed in installed programs.
Help! What am I doing wrong??

  • Iphone 5 with IO7 won't recharge now USB

Long story short. Will my iPhone 5 wouldn't sync with iTunes. It was stuck on waiting for changes to apply. So I read on another discussion post that I should just restore. So I hit the restore button on iTunes and it said connect with a USB cable. Which it already was and it was fine and everything but I don't want happened it stop working? Now I know what you're thinking it's your USB cable. Will it's not because my iPad was plugged in and was recharging. So I pull out the USB cable from my iPad and tried using that one, nope nothing. I tried both cable with my iPad and it worked fine. I tried restarting my computer and the iPhone nothing worked. It couldn't be my iPhone because it's charging right now through my mophie case. Anyone have any answers? I already made an appointment with the genius bar but I rather find an easier solution

YES, we have the same problem with original USB cable that came with the i5 after update to ios7 then usb start alert message on iphone screen said something like " not compatable".  Definitely ios7 does not allow to recognize the original i5 usb cable.
I purchased the new i5s the first day it came out so exciting went to car put the i5s to charge with orginal usb cable and NOT charging.  Turn off engine on my car and ran back to apple store and told the guy work there, he test with my usb cable and sure not working and exchange me to another new one and it work at the apple store, work in car charger and home charger as well.
I then use the original usb cable that just exchange to charge my i5 then it work in car and home as well.
so, with all the troubleshooting and try to diff usb cables.  Definitely, some usb cable are BAD !!!

    Hey Marco,

  • I am trying to connect a Windows 7 / 64 bit to an Epson printer on my Mac.  The printer is hooked into the Mac via USB; the Mac is networked to a Linksys wireless router with an ethernet cable, as is the Windows box. Any tips on how to do this?

I am trying to connect a Windows 7 / 64 bit to an Epson printer on my Mac.  The printer is hooked into the Mac via USB; the Mac is networked to a Linksys wireless router with an ethernet cable, as is the Windows box. I installed the current Bonjour printer services software on the Windows machine, and separately installed the driver software for the Epson printer on the WIndows machine.  Running the bonjour wizard, I get an alert saying 'I don't have sufficient access to my computer to connect to the selected printer'.
The printer has 'sharing' turned on from the Mac end; this works with a Powerbook via the wireless connection.  Sharing is also turned on in the Windows printer control panel for this printer (under properties).  The Mac is a G5 running 10.5.8.  When I try to print a page from the Windows machine it gets hung in the print queue.
Any advice how to proceed would be appreciated!
    thx,

  • I am getting a printer message "on hold, Authentication required" when directly connected (USB) to any printer I try to install to my MacBook Pro.  Any ideas?

I am having trouble with printing from my MacBook Pro.  After succesfully installing a printer, sending a print job results in a alert in the print que that says "on hold  Authentication Required"
I am fairly new to Mac and have not the slightest clue what I am doing wrong.  Please help!
    Thanks, Slojon

After upgrading to OSX Mountain Lion on one of our home computers and having no difficulty with printer access for months, after a glitch involving loss of power, suddenly "On hold (authentication required)" started showing up.
When I deleted the printer and then tried to add it back using the default listing for the printer I got the message "Unable to download the software from the server at this time."  I felt I was going backwards.  The whole situation was maddening for a couple of days.
    Details:
Older G5 Desktop Mac running OSX Snow Leopard wth an HP Color LaserJet 2550 attached via USB.
Early 2011 13" MacBook Pro running OSX Mountain Lion.
    Airport WiFi network.
This is really two problems: how to add a printer successfully and how to print without authentication.
    How to add a printer
Do not use the default listing for adding the printer that shows up in the popup menu, instead use the generic "Add printer" command, then select the printer and printer type from the secondary menu that comes up.  This worked fine for me.
How to avoid the "Authentication required"
    Software update on both machines.
Reset printing system (Option & minus "-" key) on both systems.
Add the printer back to the server (older G5 Mac in my case) system.
Ensure that both the printer sharing is selected for the printer and …
… that printer sharing is turned on globally in the Sharing System Preferences
Add the printer back to the client system
I was also able to work this through the CUPS system described in other posts (http://localhost:631) but I always prefer to let Mac OSX handle the UNIX details since I have greater confidence I won't be inadvertantly messing something up.

  • TS1538 What do I do after step 6 in "If the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is not listed"?

i'm very confused about step 5, "Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed" > "If the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is not listed", what do I do after step 6? I looked for and found the entry that recognizes the device as a camera, "Apple iPhone, now what? I'm trying to resolve an issue. After an iTunes upgrade in July 2012, I have not been able to get my iTunes to recognize any of my devices. I have uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes, all the steps. Now I'm on this one and I don't know what to do after this step 6. I looked and found the entry.... now what??? I am out of room on my phone because everything I buy on iTunes on the computer mysteriously appears on my iPhone 4, and everything I buy on my iPhone mysteriously uploads onto my iTunes the next time I open it. My phone will charge when connected to the computer, and Windows recognizes it and asks how I want to open pictures, etc. But in iTunes it will not show up under Devices. This is getting beyond ridiculous and I have to get some of this music off of my phone!

Found a possible solution for me.
While the phone was plugged into my computer and iTunes is CLOSED.
    1. I went to Services in Windows.
    2. I selected Apple Mobile Device and right clicked and selected "Stop".
    3. Then I right-clicked again and selected "Start".
    4. Then I went to Device Manager and right clicked my iPhone with the yellow alert icon and selected "Uninstall".  You will get a warning about uninstalling the device.  Click OK.
    5.  At the top of Device Manager I clicked the Action menu and selected "Scan for Hardware Changes".
This re-installed the iPhone and everything started working again.

  • My ipod doesn't Sync or Charge, but does recognize USB cable

    Hi There
I have a 4th gen 60gb ipod that has worked fine for about 2 years. As of yesterday it doesn't charge when plugged into a charger or USB port (2 different ports with 2 different cables) but the wierd thing is that it does sem to acknowledge the cable being connected/removed as the backlight comes on and it doesn't drain the battery whilst the cable is connected. Also it seems to charge a bit if I boot into the diagnostics menu.
Resetting has made no difference and it still responds normally otherwise.
Is it fried? What settings in the diagnostics menu should I be looking at? Is there anything else I can try? All help appreciated!
    Thanks
