USB and iSight not working

Hi, I've been having some issues with my macbook:
(1) My front USB port is not working. I've been getting the following message everytime I restart (even when nothing is pluged in): "Becayse a USB devide was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled". I've tried resetting the PRAM and SMC, this does not work.
(2) My built-in iSight no longer works. I tried using skype and photobooth and the camera is not detected. I looked in my system profilers and isight is listed but I'm not sure what this information tells me (see below):
Built-in iSight:
  Product ID:          0x8507
  Vendor ID:          0x05ac  (Apple Inc.)
  Version:           4.42
  Serial Number:          8TA5B04NPDCJ6F00
  Speed:          Up to 480 Mb/sec
  Manufacturer:          Apple Inc.
  Location ID:          0x24600000 / 2
  Current Available (mA):          500
  Current Required (mA):          500
(3) My battery drains when my macbook is in sleep mode (this was not happening before).
(4) My computer seems to be getting really hot. This cause the bottom rubber of my macbook to start peeling off. I've downloaded iStat to keep and eye on the temperature but I'm not sure if this is related to my other issues.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Are there any tests I can run? I'm not sure if these issues are related or not. Please help.

According to the AHT instructions on p. 61 of the manual for your 13-inch Mid 2010 MacBook, http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/macbook_13inch_mid2010_ug.pdf you did the correct restart process.  To me, the fact that AHT does not work either is one more indicator of likely hardware trouble.

If nothing else you try fixes your issue, try restoring your Mac's software.  If neither a Time Machine restore nor a complete restore to factory original condition (p.60) corrects your trouble, I think you are left with the choice of AASP service or deciding whether it is time for a new Mac.

Restarting Mac may fix it.  Otherwise: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
(Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD."  Regardless of the name of your built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)

  • Bluetooth and Isight not working since upgrade to Mountain Lion

    Hello,
    I have a mid-2010 MBP running OSX 10.8.2.
Ever since upgrading to Mountain Lion, My bluetooth and iSight both have stopped working.  I have tried the clear the SMC numerous times. Mostly it does not have any effect. However, a couple of times, it has restored service to the iSight and the bluetooth, but as soon as I reboot the machine they are back to being disabled. Sometimes they become available without my resetting the SMC and for seemingly no reason. I have also replaced a couple of different kext files: Apple_iSight.kext and AppleUsbVideoSupport.kext with known good ones. I also Verified and Repaired on the disk. In this case, permissions issues were detected and repaired, but without fixing my original problems.
I would like desperately to resolve this without buying a new disk and doing a fresh install of OSX Lion. I would definitely NOT go back to Moutain Lion in this scenario. But I don't know what do next. I don't see many posts on this subject and those I have seen do not offer much hope. I know I am not the only one suffering with this, but I don't think Apple is addressing the problems, because they may not be pervasive enough right now.
If anyone has found a way to resolve this permanently, please share with me. I would like to roll back to Lion, but can't do that either.
    Can anyone help me out?
    Thanks,
    Brad.

This is likely a conflict with some 3-rd party s/w you have on the MBP but not the other two computers. Have a look in here
 > System Preferences.. Users & Groups | Login Items
Is there something in here that's not in the same list on the other Macs? If so, try removing it and restarting your computer. If that solves the problem, try contacting the developer to see if there's an update.
If that doesn't solve the problem, go through your other 3rd party apps and look for updates on all of them. One of them is stopping your mouse from working properly.

Hi all, in answer to the above suggestions:
No the 10g database and listener is completely down (no services belonging to the new 10g database are running). I checked also alle the logs, but no messages anymore since saturday.
What I did notice: Oracle92HTTPserver (a service normally started automatically) does not start. When I start it, it gives me a message that there is nothing to do and that the service therefore is not started. So the HTTP-server itself is not working anymore. I can't find any files changed by th installation in the Ora92 home Apache directories. All seems as it was before the installation And still it won't start....
Does anybody have other suggestions? Please help.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jan.

  • Boot Camp: Keyboard and iSight not working

I am a recent Mac convert and just installed Leopard on my MacBook Pro. After going through the Boot Camp installation program I installed Windows Vista Business. Now, when I boot up in Vista my iSight is not detected and my keyboard will not illuminate.
I tried reinstalling the drivers off of the Leopard DVD but to no effect.
    Help!

I'm sorry that you are in the same situation. I removed the partition and started the whole process again, reinstalled Vista, added the Boot Camp drivers from the DVD and then went back and added the specific keyboard and iSight drivers individually but NOTHING changed.
If anyone has any suggestions they would be much appreciated.

  • USB and Firewire not working

OK I know, I search on forums already and I can't find anything like what I'm experiencing right now.
The only ports working are the ones in front of the Mac. Even the ones on both of my screens are not working.
My question: is there a place to setup a default priority on those ports? I mean, it's surely a setting somewhere that i can't find. It's impossible that all the ports except those in front are down...
    Any clue?!?!

    PieArson
I'm sorry you feel that way and truly there was no jeering intended. I'm actually trying to help. In your post your rider refers to Lamborgini. This is information you've provided. Remember?
It's not safe to make any assumptions about what you may or may not have tried yourself to resolve the issue. As a consequence advising someone to restart is fairly standard. Amazingly it can and does 'cure' a lot of problems. Occasionally I see a similar issue with my laptop. A simple restart fixes it. If there is a persistent problem with the rear ports and it's consistent regardless of what you connect then perhaps it's time you ran the AHT? Or if this is not available to you take it to your nearest Apple Repair Specialist who should be able to diagnose it further? One thing you could try to eliminate a possible OS problem is to boot from the Installer Disk. Connect to the same ports. Do they work now? If they do, back up and reinstall the OS.
+"It's impossible that all the ports except those in front are down"+
Not really. I also happen to be an Apple Certified Hardware Engineer and - rare that they are - I've seen problems like this before. Depending on the hardware the front panel board can be separate from the ports on the back.
+"is there a place to setup a default priority on those ports?"+
AFAIK No. Unless someone knows different? They either work or they don't.
    +"I mean, it's surely a setting somewhere that i can't find."+
There are settings available for the Firewire Ports but only in terms of TCP/IP Networking. You'll find these in the Network Preferences Pane.

  • Facebook Videos and Isight not working.

Every time I go to leave someone a video on facebook with my built in isight camera, I am able to record the whole video, but as soon as I hit stop to recording the error message comes up "An error occured. We were unable to save your video. Give it another shot."
I know my video works because I use it on Photobooth, and skype and ichat. It's just facebook that I can not leave videos for some reason and I want to know why.

    Welcome to Discussions, awrig537
I tested and saving video recorded with my iSight works for me now.
Try restarting your Mac and testing FB video again with no other apps running.
You can also check other User Accounts, etc.: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090

Sometimes you have to reset the SMC two or three times for it to work, don't know why. I've seen that error message before and 100% of the time it was fixed with an SMC reset. I suppose it's possible that your keyboard or mouse IS drawing too much power, do you have access to another you could try?

  • Audio output and left USB port is not working!

Hi! I have MacBook Air 13" late 2010, Audio output and left USB port is not working!
    What happened?
    Part No.: Z0JH000TE RS

If the left USB port doesnt work with an external mouse its seems to be a hardware malfunction of this USB port.
The newest BIOS is already installed?
Have you removed all USB ports from device manager and restarted your notebook?
If you have already tried this, contact an authorized service provider. The guys can try to fix this issue and it should be covered by warranty, if you still have warranty on this notebook. :)

  • Usb composite device is an older usb device and might not work in USB 3

I recently bought one Lenovo Yoga 2 11 laptop running Windows 8.1 (64 bit).
When I try to connect my old Brother MFC-3240C printer using USB (2.0), it doesn’t work.
    Below are the steps performed:
Connected the printer to USB 2.0 port on laptop (on the right side). Automatically installed the printer driver (no exclamation mark beside printer icon)
When the printer didn’t print, I tried to use troubleshoot as below:
Control Panel->Hardware and Sound->Devices and Printers->Right Click on Printer Icon->Troubleshoot.
It came up with USB composite device is an older usb device and might not work in USB 3.0
Removed the printer and re-installed the driver. It is all the same.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
FYI – the same printer works fine with my older laptops running Windows 7.

Already checked Brothers website for the printer drivre for Windows 8.1 (64 bit).
It says ... The built-in driver is already included with Windows® Operating System or is available through Windows® update.
So, installed the default driver for the printer that is available with Windows 8.1.
Even connected the printer with USB 3.0 port on the laptop, but it is all the same.

  • Mac Pro USB ports and bluetooth not working

I have a Mac Pro (early 2008) Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 2.8 GHz, 4GB ram, Airport card, Magic Mouse. Suddenly the keyboard and wired/bluetooth Mouse are unavailable, so it is not possible to control the computer. The only way I can use it is by using Screen Sharing from my MacBook Pro - which is obviously pretty useless except for diagnostics! All the USB ports (front and back, as well as those on the Cinema Display - when connected) are dead. System profiler shows no problem with them, but also shows nothing connected. Bluetooth in menu bar shows as "Bluetooth: not available", and in system profiler shows as "No information found".
I've tried all the usual remedies. Powering off overnight with power cord disconnected, all peripherals disconnected, then booting up again. Holding in the power button for ten seconds when the power cord is disconnected. Obviously I can't reset the pRAM (because the keyboard is not recognised, even before the OS loads). The first couple of times I tried this process, it did bring back the USB ports, even the bluetooth became temporarily available, but soon disappeared again. USB ports died next time I rebooted.
However, in the last couple of days, the process produces no results. No matter how long I leave it disconnected, USB ports are not working and bluetooth is just not there...
I've checked for other threads on this topic, but most other people seem to have issues with either front or back USB ports, or even just one or more individual ports. My problems have only been with all ports or none.
Does anyone have any suggestions to get my MacPro up and running again properly?

Just waking this thread up again in case anyone has had any other ideas.
Since last posting, usb became functional again, (came back on a couple of hours after a restart) and as long as I kept the machine alive, usb would stay alive. Bluetooth came back on briefly, but for most of the time was unavailable. System profiler shows no problems and Console does not report any usb related errors as far as I can see.
After a recent restart, usb disappeared again, and despite numerous restarts and being left on for a couple of days (and subsequently left off for several days) it has not come back. When usb is not working, examining the system profiler (through screen sharing from my macbook) usb shows no errors, but also shows no connected devices. I can charge my ipod nano with any of the usb ports (front or back), so power does not seem to be the issue.
I can't reset pRAM (because the keyboard is not available at boot), but have reset SMC numerous times. Have tried other keyboards, and mice. No joy.
I seem to have run out of ideas. Any suggestions?

My Macbook Pro keyboard and USB keyboard will not work.  However, the trackpad and USB mouse will work.  Any help?
This is quite frustrating, since it randomly occured as I was browsing the web.  It seemed to happen out of nowhere.  I cannot login to my user account because I cannot type my password.
    Any help will be appreciated.

If you have another Mac, boot the non-working one into Target Disk Mode (holding down "T" at startup). Hook up the two Macs via a Firewire cable. The non-working one will mount on the other Mac as an external Firewire HD.
Next, download the 10.5.6 Combo update from here:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1056comboupdate .html
Run it. When it asks you for a destination, choose the other Mac that was mounted via Firewire. When it's done, unmount the computer and restart it. The keyboard and mouse should work now.

  • Apple USB keyboard does not work with one internal usb port

    Hi everyone,
hope someone can help me to solve my problem. I have a MPB13 retina late 2013 since something like 3 months. I have additional screen (dell), usb wired keyboard (apple) and BT magic mouse.
Since a few days, my usb keyboard does not work well. It only want to work properly when plugged to the rights side usb port internal port and not anymore on the left one. It also work on a usb external concentrator. Before, I had no problem, it worked perfectly. There was no problem such as cofee on it...
After searching the web on such problem, I tries a few things such as:
I tried the keyboard on another computer (windows): works fine
I tried usb stick and external DVD reading on the left internal usb ports: works fine
I switch the MPB off and turn it back on: the usb keyboard still does not work on the left usb port
I tried the SMC and PRAM reset : nothing
    Any idea ??
    Thanks
    Guillaume
