USB Audio Input Distorted

I have a Focusrite Saffire 6 USB device.  Audio input coming in to my Macbook Pro sounds distorted and Cyborg like.  I've tested the hardware on my wife's macbook air and it works.  I've been through the process of removing and reinstalling the driver but still continue to have the distortion.  I've tried different USB Ports and even reseting SMC and PRAM but nothing seems to shake the distortion from the external Audio device.  Any thoughts on other solutions to look into?

That could definitely be a possibility, as none of our products are officially Mountain Lion compatible as of yet.  Keep an eye on this answerbase article for updates on that.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

  • Bad noise from USB audio input

Using Roland UA-30 USB audio input device with ibook 1.2ghz with Logic Pro 7.
Getting nasty noise. Any other ways of getting audio into my ibook without the fuzz and buzz ?

ok first of all to help your ibook 1.2ghz's power, upgrade your rams, atleast 1.5GB, safer side will be 2.5GB
    2) get the pro app if you haven't done so
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/proapplicationsupport30macosx1039.html
    3) I was gonna say get the latest update for the UA-30 but it comes with OSX
    4) try not to set you buffer size too high, try around 128-256 or better 512
    5) make sure your cables are good/pro cables
    6) record using other applications to see if its logic or just the card itself

  • USB audio input to voice-over tool not working

with FCE-HD on iMac i have system preferences set to USB-122 Tascam box for audio input/output (works great with GB for instance) but when i try using it for audio input on FCE and the voice-over tool set to USB-122, i hear no audio, the level meter doesn't more, etc, its still taking the audio from the built-in mic.
im sure its something simple im overlooking??

    Mark,
See if this post helps. Not familiar with USB audio devices myself, but found this searching:

  • Why won't 'Speakable Items' Work with USB Audio Input Device (Lexicon Lambda)?

I am new to Apple Macs, yay for me!
I really want to use the 'Speakable Items' feature but unfortunately it just won't work with my Lexicon Lambda external USB Audio device.
Now, the Lambda is plugged in and working, and I know this from using the "Diction' feature which works perfectly.
When I go to System Preferences and click on accessibility>'Speakable items' and I turn on speakable items, I notice that under 'microphone' I'm unable to calibrate the microphone for some reason (if that's at all relevant).
I follow the instructions and have been asking 'what time is it?' and nothing happens
    Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem, using 10.8.4. I have been using Speakable Items for a long time, but it's not reacting at all anymore. I'm on a Mac Mini and have tried several inputs, that all work with dictation, and are selectable inputs for Speakable Items. Zoom H4N, Apogee Duet and an UAD Apollo. The only problem I can see, aside from something in the OS, would be that I have SoundFlower and WavTap installed. Will try uninstalling them, to see if that helps.

  • OS 10.6.6 won't recognize USB audio input

I've connected an ION USB Turntable to the USB port on my MacBook Pro running OS 10.6.6 and can't get the Mac to recognize the ION as an audio input. I launch Audio Hijack Pro and it only sees the internal mic and the audio input jack. It's as if there is no USB audio source attached. I launched the Sounds control panel and get the same results. I've tried every suggestion that I've been able to find here in the Apple discussions and nothing has resolved the problem.
I've checked the ION site and they say the OS should contain everything required for the turntable to work and they offer no specific "drivers" for it. I checked Apple's support site and found nothing there either.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to use two Blue Snowball usb mics for audio input to GarageBand. When I connect them I can see both in the System Profiler (one on each hub with different location ID's) but when I go to the Audio Midi Setup utility to create an Aggregate Device I only see one listed.
    Any ideas?

  • USB Audio Input

My M-Audio FastTrack is no longer recognized by my Dual 867 G4 Mac as an audio input. I have tried other devices (Line 6) and they are not recognized either. My FastTrck was recognized in the past. Any Ideas?

Hi helporbehelped and welcome to our community
No, no specific mic is needed. However, I've seen many posts
here with issues regarding microphones and hardware. Basically, I
notice that seldom (if ever) does anyone report issues with
Microphones that connect via little plug jacks. The issues we see
most often deal with Microphones that connect via USB. Of those,
some report no issues ever. Some report that it worked for an hour,
a day, a week, whatever and suddenly stopped. Even others report
that USB *NEVER* worked for them.
As you can see, it's quite a mixed bag of reports.
Bottom line is the microphones that connect with the jacks
that just plug into the sound card seem to be the most reliable.
    Not sure why though.
    Cheers... Rick

  • USB audio Interface distortion/static when sound is played.

My USB audio interface started sending out static/distortion to my speakers one day. It's more apparent when volume is very very low. To troubleshoot I switched to the other USB port and it worked fine for a month or so. Now the second USB port is creating static. I have reason to believe it's the computer not my interface as there was static on one usb port and none on the other. Now both ports create static. Is there something in my computer I can try reseting or should I look into getting a new interface?
Thank you in advance for any guidance with this.
    Andy
    13" MacBook (Late 2008) 2.4Ghz w/ OS X 10.6.6

No noise problems when the interface is plugged into other systems.. Only on the G5...
And I tried plugging it into all the different USB ports on the G5, the one in front and the two in the back... All with the same result.
    Thank you for your reply.

  • 10.4.10 Update kills most USB audio input devices for iChatAV

I have a Logitech Quickcam 5000 Pro that has a built in Mic. The UVC compliant camera still works, but under 10.4.9 the mic worked also; however, it no no longer shows up as an audio input device.
Intel Mac Mini 2GB RAM / MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Add another to the pile, slightly different: No audio support for my FIREWIRE based audio interface.
    Running 10.4.10, software update installed.
OSX recognizes it, at any sample rate I want to use it at.
Sound setup, everything else (my whole entire studio) recognizes it.
iChat AV, when I go to the video tab to select "microphone" will give me default of none and then my device name (mLAN audio network). As soon as I select my device, the microphone option disappears completely. The only way to get the selection option back is to restart iChat, upon which the problem repeats itself.

  • USB Audio Input Crackles

    Hi,
I've had an ION USB turntable for some time and whilst it has worked in the past when I try and use it now applications pick up a distorted, crackling sound instead of the actual music. It definitely isn't a problem with the turntable setup because the RCA cables reproduce the sound perfectly but any applications in OSX that try and capture or play through the audio just reproduce a clipped, distorted version of the song that is practically unrecognizable.
Any ideas on what might cause such a problem?

    Hi BlackPlastic-
The USB and RCA outputs of that turntable are produced via different electronics. The data fed over USB is the analog part, available on the RCA jacks, digitized and sent out over USB.
My guess is that if everything else is working correctly, there is probably a problem with the A to D converter in the turntable itself.
Are you connected to a USB port directly on the Mac?
    Luck-

  • 10.6.5 USB audio input

I'm using a Belkin AV360 to play xbox on my 27" iMac. Everything was working fine with 10.6.4 and the beta of 10.6.5. Today I installed the final build and I no longer get audio from the AV360. It still shows the device connected in the system profile and the video works fine through the minidisplay port. I took the AppleUSBAudio.kext from 10.6.4 and replaced the one from 10.6.5, but nothing changed. Anyone have an idea?
Also worth noting, this device does not offer nor require a driver installation, it has always worked from the standard drivers in the OS.
I see others having trouble with USB mics and audio output devices, so I'm guessing that I'm throwing this question into the dark. Hopefully, if no one has an idea, Apple is at least watching and can provide a solution.
Edit: I should specify that I have no idea if this device actually sends audio through USB or the minidisplay port. I just always assumed USB...

Well I hadn't stopped searching when I posted this, but I had been searching for a while and was almost to that point. I just came across the solution here: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1047337
To quote WilliamG there, "Go to your HD: Then Library/Preferences/Audio, and delete the .plist file in there. Reboot, and then your audio will work again."
Confirmed that it works. Good thing too, I was about to replace every kernel extension with the 10.6.4 versions! That could have been fun

  • My MacBook is not recognizing my USB audio input.

The hardware (Guitar Rig Session I/O) is lighting up (so it's drawing power) and System Profiler shows that it is attached to the USB, but says it is unconfigured. I've updated all my software (currently using OS X 10.5.8), but when I open System Preferences->Sound, it's not there.

    Reset your SMC and PRAM.

  • MBP 15" w/USB headset - buzz in audio input w/power cord attached

My wife's MacBookPro 15" seems to have a problem with USB audio input (both left & right side ports); if the power cord is attached, the microphone generates a hum. Pop out the power cord and the hum stops. I'm testing this using GarageBand.
The headset is a VXI "Parrot"; it works fine with an iMac G5 17", a MacBook G3 and an Intel iMac 20" (2.16GHz core Duo).
Has anyone else had a similar problem?
    -- Jerry
    MacBookPro 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2GB, Core Duo 2.16GHz

I am also having a similar problem.
It works fine when iBook is unplugged but hums horribly when I plug in the iBook.
Hum is also produced when I am using my iMac.
Were you able to solve your problem?

  • How to set up USB Audio

I bought this two days ago: http://kuroutoshikou.com/products/select/multifset.html
It is a USB audio input/output device.
The package says OS 10 compliant but there are nothing looking like mac drivers on the CD. I plug it into the ibook and all lights up, seems to work and there are some sporadic crackling noises I can input and play through the speakers but I can't seem to figure out how to set it up right. Since I can't speak Japanese, emailing the manufacturer isn't getting me far.
Are there any generic USB audio control drivers I can download?
    Cheers
    iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

If it's a 'class compliant' audio device, it doesn't need any additional drivers to work in OS X.
Open the 'Audio MIDI Setup' program, and set the appropriate speeds, etc, and whether you want this device to be the default audio device. It should just work.

  • Mac Pro no analog audio input

The analog audio input on my Mac Pro has stopped working.  Audio output still OK; USB audio input works fine but nothing from analog audio input.
I know it's getting a signal as I can send the mixer output to a Zoom H4n and it records fine, but I need it to go directly into the computer for tutorial voiceovers.  I've tried recording in Quicktime Player, Soundtrack Pro, Camtasia and Screenflow.
I get no volume indication in the System Preferences>Sound panel.
I opened Apple Midi Setup>analog input and I can adjust volume on the two channels but "Master" is stuck at zero.  Could this be the problem?

See if a smc reset shakes it loose.
Just to be clear here.  Are you inputting into a program and expect to hear it as well? If so, then unless the program itself has some kind of audio playthru to the speakers you need a app like LineIn to handle that function.

  • Distorted recording with QuickTime 7 using USB Audio CODEC

I am running Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.8 with all the latest update from Software Update which includes QuickTime 7.1.3.
I am using QuickTime Broadcaster to stream back to itself (loopback) and record to disk at the same time. The input audio device is set to USB Audio CODEC (the default driver that comes with Mac OS X Tiger, and I am using an Alesis MultiMix 16USB mixer on a PowerMac Dual Core G5). I am using MPEG-4 Audio compression (no Video) of 16-bit, 44.1kHz and 128kbps (stereo).
The problem is that sometimes I get recordings (ranging from 1.5 hours to 2.75hours long) with distortion. Here is a short 20-second audio clip with distortion-free audio for about 6 seconds and then distortion sets in:
    http://www.netmedia.com.sg/files/SampleDistortion20s.mov
Whether it overlays on top of the original audio or replaces it, I cannot tell, but the transition is instant and smooth with no audible clicks or pops. The distortion can come in and go randomly. For example, I had one recording with distortion coming in at about 2 minutes plus and it remained until about 2hr10min when the distortion went away. Sometimes it didn't go away; other times it came in about an hour later. I also had once where the distortion last only for about 6 minutes somewhere in the middle of a 2.25 hours recording...all in all, it occurs at random. And I do get distortion-free recordings.
This problem also occurs on an iMac G5 with a Alesis MultiMix 12USB mixer, and in another Vara Software's Videocue PRO software which uses QuickTime for recording and playback. QuickTime 7.0.x and all versions of 7.1 also had this problem.
Because of this problem, I may need to use a convoluted method to stream and record to disk via QuickTime. By the way, I also tried streaming to another local subnet IP address just as a troubleshooting without success.

I too am having distortion problem (Sorry no solution here).
    Using OS 10.4.8, QT7.1.3, & Adobe Premiere 6.5 on a G4.
After I down loaded QT 7.1.3, my problems started. Is this when your problems started too?
Audio is in "slow motion" sound when editing. On rare occations, it sounds correct for 10 sec or so but sync is out and eventually reverts to "slow motion" sound. Even more bazar, when viewing a clip in a thumbnail preview, it works fine. So I know the orginal is good.
My contention is QT is causing this. All I want is my previous version of QT back. I think this might fix your problem too. Unfortunately, there is no reinstall that I can find that takes QT 7.1.3 off and puts QT 7.1.1or2. The reinstall QT 7.0.3 which is on the Apple website will not restall.
Looking for a reintall that will take QT 7.1.3 off, help anyone?
