USB audio Interface distortion/static when sound is played.

My USB audio interface started sending out static/distortion to my speakers one day. It's more apparent when volume is very very low. To troubleshoot I switched to the other USB port and it worked fine for a month or so. Now the second USB port is creating static. I have reason to believe it's the computer not my interface as there was static on one usb port and none on the other. Now both ports create static. Is there something in my computer I can try reseting or should I look into getting a new interface?
Thank you in advance for any guidance with this.

13" MacBook (Late 2008) 2.4Ghz w/ OS X 10.6.6

No noise problems when the interface is plugged into other systems.. Only on the G5...
And I tried plugging it into all the different USB ports on the G5, the one in front and the two in the back... All with the same result.
Thank you for your reply.

  • USB audio interface

    Hey guys,
I have a USB audio interface and I'm not sure how to get it working on Arch. It actually randomly started working one day when my sound settings in gnome started to show more than just "Digital Output (S/PDIF) - Built-in Audio" for possible output devices. One of those extra devices sent audio to the interface. Those entries just disappeared though and I'm not sure how to get them back. I'm using ALSA.
I'm not sure what additional information you may need.
    Thanks

Have you looked on the ALSA wiki about USB sound devices?

  • Audio input setup with a USB audio interface

When i plug my USB audio interface into the USB port, GB gives me a message that it has been detected, and it shows up in the audio input preferences.
But it doesn't seem to be listening. Signals light up on the interface when i speak into the mike, but not on my GB.
I also switched to the device I'm using in my Mac input sound preferences.
    Hints, anyone?

Nothing - it's a new project. Thought maybe I ought to get the input device working before starting.

  • USB Audio Interface not working anymore

I have a Presonus Audiobox USB Audio Interface. Worked perfectly until I updated to Mavericks, now I get a screeching noise when used and the sound switches to the built in Mac sound.
So then I reboot and it does it again. The Audio box doesnt have any software since its a plug and play. Any help?

  • No input using usb audio interface

I recently bought a Tascam US-1641 USB Audio Interface that Im running with logic studio 8. I'm not getting any audio coming through when recording. I have selected the item in preferences but im not getting any input or output.
anyone had similar problems or know where i might have made a stupid error.
    David Docherty

    Hi
Firstly, sorry for not being able to help as I share the same problem.
I've recently bought a novation nio 2/4 audio interface for logic pro 8.
I have the same problem with getting sound from it. What are you trying to record e.g. instrument?
I also have a usb midi keyboard that I plugged straight in and got sound through logic straight away so I don't know why the audio interface should be much different.
Please let me know if you happen to stumble across an answer as it is driving me crazy!

  • USB Audio Interface Mystery

I have an HP Envy TouchSmart m7.  Purchased it with Win 8 and upgraded to Win 8.1 update 1 (with August 2014 update).
No issues with the exception of a USB device.  I normally have not used any USB devices - no USB keyboard, no USB printer, etc.. I have used a USB mouse once in a blue moon - but I do use a USB audio interface for my MIDI keyboard regularly.
It works fine until I connect a cable from any of the outputs to a mixer or amp.  Within minutes, I hear a click and my audio driver stops responding as if the device rebooted - I'm assuming because of a USB power or data drop-out.  I've replaced my audio interface, tried different power sources, different locations, all types of surge strips, modified power settings, replaced mixers, upgraded my BIOS, checked Windows updates, been talking with the maker of my audio interface (who even sent me custom drivers) and talking with the makers of my music software - all of them are at wits end saying to simply use another computer.
Help - help and help!  I cannot perform with my audio interface not working.  I have to connect it in order to hear sound.  Everything seems to point to hardware on my laptop.  Any ideas or fixes for this laptop?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hello,
AS I stated earlier - the maker of the problematic device (which has a solid reputation) has sent me new drivers that aren't widely available although the drivers seemed and still seem solid and I've never mentioned nor had an issue with latency.  Although you said I didn't mention updating any of the drivers, I may have inferred it by saying I installed any and all Windows updates which included drivers.
I have worked with PC's for 20 years, building, supporting, programming, etc.. I have seen a plethora of problems that run the gamut of easy to very complex and even to unexplainable - which I usually don't accept.. lol.  This laptop runs smooth and I've tuned it up as my main music machine but this issue runs pretty deep and on the surface I can't see a driver issue, no latency issues and no updates pending for anything.  What has my curiousity and perhaps I've not been as detailed as I shoud have been but that this problem does NOT occur and may never have  occurred if I only used headphones.  It only happens when a cable - any cable - is plugged up from my audio device to another device like a mixer or amp.
That's why I explored grouding issues, electrical possibilities etc.  This may be a complex combination of several factors.  Maybe a USB issue, along with a driver and/or even a deep OS issue along with grounding?
Thanks for the link to Windows 8 Tuning Tips for Audio processing but honestly, I had already performed these modifications way before I found that article and read it even before you posted the link.  But thanks for being thorough.
I'd actually be happy if I had to address some clicking or popping - but a complete failure when only cables are connected?  What can I do in the cabling to prevent surges?  I hate to purchase expensive equipment to troubleshoot this, find a surge issue only to have to purchase another laptop, audio interface or something.  Throwing more money at it for only troubleshooting purposes doesn't seem pleasant to me.
I have blue screen logs, memory dump files, etc which have been handed over to Focusrite and still nothing.  I'd like to install Win 10 on it to see if this reoccurs or drop back to Win 7.  I don't know what to do,,,  my first audio interface device to fulfill my dreams of playing live performances and I hit this.. Agh!!!
Frustrated but still willing to troubleshoot,
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • M-Audio Mobile Pre USB audio interface compatibility w/ FCP

I am trying to do voiceovers in FCP with my mic connected to the XLR input on a M-Audio Mobile Pre USB audio interface.
The first time I did this, even though I got a signal in System Preferences audio input, I would get no signal in the Voiceover Tool window in FCP. I know I chose the correct source, input and rate for the device. I rebooted and it worked. Then on another day a reboot would not make it work. Now I can’t make it work again. Upon opening FCP with the USB interface connected OSX crashed. This almost never happens ether with the system in general or since I installed FCP 5.1. This has happened twice. I also started this whole process by updating to the newest driver for the M-Audio device. I liked the sound I got when it worked so any help with this problem would be appreciated.

Thanks for that link...that's what I saw months ago, and I realize I got a few of the specifics mixed up. UNFORTUNATELY, I tried those tips and I still have the exact same problem. I also went to M-Audio and downloaded the most recent driver. I did a variety of starts and re-starts where the unit was connected or not upon start up...whether phantom power was on or off at start up, etc etc. And by start up I mean both starting GB only, and/or starting up my Mac. I tested using the interface through both of the USB ports. All yield the same result. The only thing I didn't test yet is changing the USB cable itself.
Any more thoughts? You think the interface is bad?

  • L305SD-S5874 Audio recording issues to USB Audio Interface

I am hearing snaps and pops recording audio through a USB audio interface attached to my laptop.I am using an external Hard Disk connected to a card buss e sata interface. Audio plays fine but snaps and pops are heard when
recording or even when an input channel is selected but idle.I have the latest drivers installed.People in other forums are saying that these problems  are due to my using a " cheap" laptop with poor IRQ sharing implementation in the chipset. Is anyone using a similar computer this way with no problems ? I have recorded audio for years to much less powered computers with good results.

Sounds like you're listening to the same source (the X6) being played twice.
Could be you are hearing  MIDI thru playback as well as Logic's "Software Monitoring" you must also be enabling a MIDI track for recording. If you unhook the MIDI connection from the X6 does the hollow sound go away.
What Audio interface are you using? The other possibility is your Audio Interface has "Direct Monitoring" this allows you to monitor the audio inputs before it goes into the computer. Having Logic's Software Monitoring enable along with Direct Monitoring would also produce the hollow sound.
I suggest the thorough reading of the manual so you understand what all the preferences do. Most of the time it is better to read and understand/experiment on your own. It's one thing to be shown something another to figure it out for yourself.
Here's a Link to all of the Preferences/Audio settings.

  • Live Capture with a camera via firewire and usb audio interface

I am trying to do a live capture through Final Cut 7.
I want the video feed through the firewire from my HVX200 and the audio feed from a 4 channel usb audio interface (Alesis iO4).
When I have both audio and video input coming in from the HVX200, the live capture works fine.
However, when I change the audio input so that it is coming from the usb audio interface, final cut has an error message saying "Video is not available."
During the preview, I see the video clearly and am getting levels from the iO4.
But when I try to capture, I get the error message.
Is it a processor issue (I've attached my specs below) with problems handling 2 separate inputs?
I'm not quite sure what the problem is.
    Any input is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi MtD,
Yes I am changing the Capture preset to iO4.  Once that happens, it lets me run both the camera and the iO4 into the laptop but then an error message pops up the moment I try to capture it.
I was only trying to use 3 out of the 4 channels of the iO4.
    Thanks!

  • Set up USB audio interface in lion osx 10.7?

    Hi
Having no success in connecting two USB audio interfaces in lion os x 10.7.2.
One is a focusrite saffire 6 USB
The other is a numark omni control
Have installed drivers for both (from their installation discs)
Neither is being recognised - have attempted to change input/output in sounds (within system pref) - simply no option there to select either
Is it anything to do with them being USB 1.1 perhaps?
    Any ideas?

    Thanks for the advice mate.
I should point out that I am without home broadband at present...
but before I picked up your message, I had checked both the numark and focusrite websites on my iPhone using 3G connection. I was able to download, transfer and install the current numark driver from my phone to my desktop - and the omni control appears to be working fine now.
I wasn't able to download the focusrite USB driver to my iPhone for some reason though. Better head out with a memory stick to use proper t'internet at my sister's tomorrow I guess!
I do wish that it was as easy to setup audio on new os x as on my novation xiosynth - it truly seems to be a 'plug and play' device.
Anyhow, much appreciated - thank you again for posting me the links.
    Have a great day

  • USB Audio Interface with bad latency problems under bootcamp

    Hi everyone,
I am currently running an Edirol UA-25 USB audio interface under Mac OS X for my normal music-listening needs. Everything works fine, and there is next to no latency when messing around in Garageband .
However, when I switch into bootcamp to use Cubase SX 3 for audio production and sequencing (has all my windows-only VST instruments), the interface pops and crackles extremely. It's almost as if the USB interface is losing sync..?
When I turn the buffer up on the drivers, this stops, but it is annoying as I like to have low latency when recording for direct monitoring.
Can anyone give me any insight into why this might be happening?
I know this is an audiophile-type question, but I thought I might as well give it a go. Or heck, if you wanna direct me somewhere where they might be able to help me!
    Cheers!
    Chris
    P.S. Using a MBP 2.5GHZ 2GB RAM

when you select , lets say the USB device in your audio preferences, it will be used as the input and output device. You can use the USB interface's audio outs plugged into your mixer, and use speakers or the headphone jack. When you create an aggregate device, using the USB device and your built in audio, and choose it in your audio preferences, this allows you to use the inputs and outputs of both the USB interface and your built in audio from your mac. So now you can record from one device while listening back on another. meaning you can record the audio from the USB device and listen back using your Mac speakers or from headphones plugged into your mac.
if you get a better audio interface, one with mic inputs, you will still need to connect it to speakers or plug in headphones to it to hear audio. If you have the budget, a dedicated firewire audio interface will usually give better results, in audio quality, than a behringer mixer and a usb interface.

  • Audio error with garageband and external usb audio interface

I am using Garageband 2.0.3. under ios 8.0.2 on my iPad 3 and via camera adapter a USB audio interface Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 or a Presonus iTwo.
When I start Garageband, it works well, the audio interfaces are recognized and I can record a track.
As soon as I switch from instrumtent to track view, the audio path is completely disturbed and all I can hear is some noise from the speaker.
Then I have to unplug the usb cable and plug it in again. Then audio works until I switch back to the instrument menu.
When I use the headphone output only there is no problem with Garageband and everything works fine.
Other applications audio applications don't show any error with each of the two audio interfaces.
Any feedback is very much appreciated, thanks.
    Harald

I have this exact issue.  However, I tried the Loopy app after after GB crashed and received an error message saying that core audio is not available.  Rebooting resolves but the problem repeats.  Any suggestions as to fixes?  Btw; I have no such problem with Ipad 2 and ios 7.

  • USB audio interface vs AC powered interface

Is a USB audio interface as good as an AC powered audio interface. Both are in the same price range.
When I say "as good" I mean sonically speaking, not in terms of features.

  • Recording Skype using Soundflower and usb audio interface as aggregate

I want to record Skype calls.
I installed Soundflower and Audacity records Skype far side audio fine when Soundflower is selected as the input. However, I want to record far side audio PLUS my microphone that runs through my Focusrite Forte usb audio interface (Audacity records my mic just fine with Forte selected as the input).
So I created an aggregate input device in OS 10.9 consisting of the Forte and Soundflower inputs. When I test out the aggregate audio input in the Mac audio settings, I see soundbars from both devices. However, when I choose the aggregate device as the input in Audacity, only the Forte device is recorded (not Skype).
Any ideas as to why only one of the two devices in the aggregate input is being recorded by Audacity?
Did I set up the aggregate incorrectly?
    Many thanks!

The people over in the GarageBand forums are amazing at diagnosing and fixing these sorts of things. I recommend that you give it a try posting the question over there:
