USB Charge and Play question

I recently needed to free up a different USB port on my Satellite A665-S6086 and had to plug my cooling fan into the USB port that has the "Charge and Play" (Play and Charge? I can't remember the exact name) feature. Now, when I turn off my laptop, the fan continues to run because I have that feature turned on. My question is, how do I turn it off?
Thank you.

Go to Solution.

Have found out exactly where u need to go in the bios:
When in the bios,
Use the arrow keys to navigate to the “Advanced” Tab.
Again using the arrow keys scroll down to “USB Sleep and Charge”.
Press the “enter” key to change the settings to either “mode 1” or “mode 2” (Im assuming disable will be here too).
Press the “F10” key to Save and Exit the Bios configuration and select “Yes” to “save the configuration changes and exit now”.
The computer will now reboot.
Hopefully that info is correct,

  • 1G iPod Shuffle charge and play

Can I plug a 1G iPod Shuffle into the UBS power adaptor wall charger AND listen to it through the headphone jack at the same time?
It may seem like a stupid question but, I'm returning my 2G iPod because it can't do both at the same time.
    New sales pitch:
2G iPod Shuffle, It can't walk and chew gum!

Wrong answer, unfortunately, and your example (while
correct - it won't play when connected to a USB port)
    doesn't fit the question asked.
In fact, you CAN play the 1G Shuffle through the
earphone jacks using Apple's USB charger; many folks
are doing that in any number of applications where
they're just providing background music in a business
    or whatever.
It plays out of the jacks, not out of the base, and
that is why it doesn't work on the 2G model; there's
no difference between the two and no way to get to
the audio on the provided dock (making me suspect
that some ingenious German is working up a modded
dock even as we speak, something that will be a
slightly bulkier version of the current one but will
feature an earphone jack .... it should be possible
    to do that).
Not all USB chargers are created equal and, while
they will charge the Shuffle just fine, the shuffle
won't play. This has to do with how the pins are
connected in the charger bases themselves, and there
are several sites on the web which tell you how you
    can work around that.
Thanks, that was my suspicion and hope.
I tried fabricating a 'y' for the 2G with a 4 conductor 3.5mm female (to the iPod Shuffle dock), 4 conductor male (to the iPod Shuffle) and a 3 conductor female for audio out.
If only the dock (which was connected to the USB charger) and the 2G Shuffle were connected, the Shuffle would charge.
If only the headphones and the Shuffle were connected, the headphones work, i stereo, no problem.
BUT, once you plugged in both the headphones and the dock neither would work.
Sent the 2G back ordered the 1G and am keeping the Apple USB charger.
    Thanks

  • Can you charge and play shuffle (2nd gen) at the same time?!

we purchased a shuffle to run our 'on hold' music at work, and its a pain in the arse to remember to charge it every night. im so used to my iPod video that lets me charge and play at the same time...
    any suggestions?!

    Hi Jen,
I have the USB Power Adapter plugged into a power
outlet and the shuffle plugged into the adapter. I'm
running a headphone to RCA cable to an audio
receiver's inputs. This allows me to listen to all my
songs on the Shuffle without needing to have a
computer near by. I've been using this set up since I
bought the Shuffle. I have to mention that the
Shuffle I own is 1st Gen...
    Again, hope this helps.
With all due respect, Rick, Jen (the original poster) was asking about how to charge+play a SECOND GENERATION Shuffle...you might note that fact is even included in the Subject field...
But now that you've mentioned yours is a 1st Gen Shuffle... 1st Gen Shuffles ARE available from the online Apple Store as refurbished for $49. Perhaps she should think about getting one of those?

  • IPod Touch 4g won't charge and play at the same time

I used to have a 4g Nano that I would play in my car through an aux cable and charge through a cigarette lighter charger. I just got a 4th gen iPod Touch and it no longer lets me charge and play at the same time. If both wires are connected it will only charge and not play, once I pull the charger part out it will play through the speakers. Is there a fix to this? Do I need a different charger so that it won't think it's simply docked?

You would need to turn off hard drive mode via iTunes iPod settings on your home system to do this. I don't know if you have this mode on or off already. I thought I read that there is a way to enable/disable hard drive mode via the iPod buttons but I don't remember how.
    Thanks,
    Steven

  • Constant, erratic beeping while charging and playing simultaneously

    Hi,
My 5th gen ipod started beeping through speakers/headphones while charging and playing at the same time. Once it has been unplugged from the ac charger and switched off/on again it is fine. This wasn't really much of a problem - a bit annoying - but as I mostly charged overnight and used during the day it didn't bother me; until now. I bought a dock with remote but as the dock automatically charges the ipod when the inserted it causes it to beep/bleep ALL the time, rendering the remote pretty useless cause i can't listen to music while it's in the dock due to the incessant beeping.
HELP! - how do I stop the beeping? Is it normal? I want to know if this is something that can't be cured before I go ahead and do something drastic like resetting my ipod completely...

there appears to be no solution...if yours does it you're stuck with it, as am I. :I

  • Clicking sound when charging and playing

My ipod makes a really weird clicking sound when it's charging and playing music and videos either though the clicker isn't on.

I have tried just about everything very methodicly.
Got Tune Tech for iPod software and cleaned everything, tried the diagnostic mode to see if everything was OK. I was thinking on the lines of some sort of macanical/electronic failure (SDRAM) but everything was all right
So I plunged in and retrograded to firmware 1.2 and VOILA !
The instructions found on MacIntouch were very simple and easy to do.
My faithfull 5G iPod is back to good working order....for now !
    No more freeze when charging.
I hope Apple will adress this firmware problem in the next update.

Yes, first try deleing both songs.
    If still problem
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, ,make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Charge AND play through

I have a Zen Sleek but this question is most likely relavant for other MP3 players.
When I connect Zen Sleek to a computer with only Windows Media player through the USB cable,
. It start to charge and I can still use the MP3 player
    2. When I start the WMP, the player immediately switch to "docked" mode
    3. When I exit the WMP, the player switch back to play/charge mode (possibly after rebuilding library)
However, if I connect Zen Sleek to a computer with Creative software loaded, the player will always be in the "docked" mode and I cannot use the player. What do I have to do (other than uninstall all Creative softwares) to use the player while it is being charged?
On a related issue, the WMP will NOT play music on the MP3 player directly through the computer (you have to transfer the music file back to PC firest) while Creative software do not have such restriction.

    SSR,
Yes it true that MTP player will detect software like Windows Explorer when opened but it will only dock for a minute or less and then release itself from docking if you are not accessing/clicking at the player listing in Windows Explorer. The player will only dock the very moment you click at the listing such as the Zen Sleek Media Explorer or the default Windows player listing. If you point it to other folder/direction, it should be releasing itself from docking. At least this is what I have tested.

  • Impossible to charge and play my shuffle

I have a new shuffle and I lost after I read manual and other questions of the forum... how can I do to charge?. I'm sure that the period of charge exceeds time that is required to the full charge. When I extract de shuffle of the charge and the button is on the light pass to green for a moment and close after at the moment. I'm not sure that charge really. When I click play no rules. What can I do please?
I'm charging in my computer with XP Pro, I read that this can give problems. But charging directly by USB not charge anything? The light is ever yellow intermittent?
Thank you and sorry for my english

First, review your user's manual to see what the lights are supposed to mean. If by "ever yellow intermittent" you mean a blinking amber, then you were never in a pure charging mode and you will never see the fully charged indication.
Blinking amber means either that your shuffle is trying to connect, is connected but is still updating, or has completed updating but is operating in Disk Mode.

  • Cable in my car doesn't charge and play the 6th gen, only plays?

So I had the 3rd gen iPod and the cable in my car played and charged it at the same time..the cable came with the vehicle.
I decided to get the 6th gen iPod nano and now the same cable only plays it. I had to buy another cable to charge (and of course can't listen to music while it charges).
The car is a 2009 Infiniti FX 35..I've called Infiniti to ask if they have a newer cable compatible with newer devices and they don't...Apple says to ask Infiniti..
I'm just trying to avoid so many cables in the car...I hate wires...the older model seemed to have worked just fine but I just had to upgrade to a nano...and now the older has been stolen... :-\
So is it Apple that needs to sell newer cables for the new devices or is it Infiniti?? Any suggestions? Thanks.

First of all to check if your battery is actually charged you can go to System Profiler (use spotlight search if you don't know how get to it) then select "Power" on the Hardware list and you should see more info on the battery. You should see this:
I highlited the info you must look for, this would be what a healthy battery on a less than 1 year old system looks like (Macbook Air 2009 model bought mid 2010)

  • IPhone 4 crashes whilst charging and playing music

    Hi
Ive been using an iPhone and an itrip auto to both playing music and charge my phone in the car.
Im having issues where the phone will jump back to the silver apple logo when its charging through the iphone cable plugged into the itrip and playing music at the same time.....
If im just charging it, its fine, if im just playing music its fine...... Just not at the same time.
    Any suggestions?

I realise this hasn't been answered yet but it happens to me quite a lot too.
I'll be listening to music on my iPhone 4 whilst charging my phone and it will inevitably crash and restart. Lately I've realised it happens no matter what I'm doing on the phone as long as it is being charged at the same time.
It never happened on my iPhone 3G.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to prevent this from happening?

  • I need to find a dock for the ipod shuffle current gen that supports charging and playing simultaneously

Ive seen many online and even some old links to products in the apple store, but these links are broken or the product is discontinued

Would anyone else know of a viable solution or could find a used product of the same attributes?
Would a simple 35mm headphone splitter provide both wall charging and playback?

If you have purchased the 16gB model, the wrist band is not included, and will need to be purchased separately.
    WHATS IN THE BOX
    iPod touch
    iPod touch loop
    (sold separately for 16GB model)
    Apple EarPods

  • Not recognized by OS X or Windows XP -- charges and plays fine, though

I'm almost hesitant to post this here, as it seems soo many other people have had the same or similar problems and not received any satisfactory advice, but for what it's worth...
My one-year-old iPod Shuffle 2.0 has abruptly ceased to be recognized by either my Mac running OS X at work or my Dell PC running Windows XP at home. It does not appear in the System Profiler on the Mac (nor, obviously, in iTunes). It does not appear under My Computer, in iTunes, or in the Device Manager (except as an "Unknown USB Device") on the PC.
Nonetheless, it does seem to be receiving a charge (at least, hasn't run out of batteries yet), and it's playing just fine.
I have done all of the five Rs except restore --- which of course I can't do, because neither iTunes nor the restore utility will recognize that there is an iPod plugged into the machine. I'm using a factory USB cord. No other USB devices are having similar problems on either machine. I have tried disabling and re-enabling the USB ports on the PC. I have reinstalled updated versions of iTunes on both computers.
I'm running out of ideas. Anyone have any?

"*I'm using a factory USB cord."*
Do you mean you're using the dock and USB cable or something else?
Are you disconnecting the USB end from your computer or just the shuffle from the dock? IF you're plugging and unplugging the USB cable, you may have worn out
    a contact...
