USB Charger question (Zen vision

is there anyway to plug in ur Zen to the computer WITHOUT letting it charge (just to transfer files and stuff) ? wouldnt it ruin the battery if i connect it to the comp then disconnect it quickly ( like 0 min later) and then do the same againwith the battery not fully depleted?
Thanks

Xylem0,
No, I'm afraid you can't stop the player from charging when it's connected to the computer.

  • Will my old wall charger for Zen Vision:M will work with the (New) Z

i bought a wall charger from amazon for my Zen Vision: M 30GB, will it work with the (New)Zen? i just bought the Zen 6 GB and it doesn't comes with an adapter, pretty bad move there, well, does it has the same plug? i hope it's compatible. thanks

    sebastiankf,
That third party adapter from your Amazon link is hard wired specifically for the Vision:M and will not work with any other Creative player unless it has the same pin-outs using the same docking interface. The Creative AC-5V adapters will either have a coaxial power plug connection that will work with most of the Creative hard disk based players, except for the original NJB and Zen Micro, or a USB Mini-B plug that will work with all of the flash players that have a USB connection and the Zen Micro.

  • Do I need to charge my Zen Vision:M before turning it

Will I upset the battery gods if I just turn it on? If so, how long does it need to charge?

The battery won't be effected if you don't let it run down to be dead. Honestly it charges faster on the USB cable if the device is on and plugged in. So if it has charged enough to turn on, I would turn it on and plug it in so its recognized by windows and it will charge faster. Just don't let the battery run down, as the limitation with USB charging devices is that they get much less current to charge on if windows can't recognize it.
So if you run the battery down to close to dead, it will take you that much longer to recharge so its best to keep the units mostly charged.

  • DIY USB Charger question

I am planning on making my own USB charger to charge my new iPhone 5S and potentially an iPad and wish to know some specifics in order to have them charge at the maximum rate. I already know that on a standard USB port, there are 4 pins involved; pin 1 is 5.00±0.25 VDC and pin 4 is ground, but pins 2 and 3 vary in voltage differences for data. To my understanding, the charge control circuitry is located in the iPhone or iPad. A standard USB data port on a computer only allows a 500mA drain, which would take forever to charge a nearly dead iPhone or iPad. Again, to my understanding, if the device doesn't know what the amp-rating of the USB port, it will assume it is 500mA and do a trikle charge. In order to know that it can charge at a heavier draw or faster rate, different voltages are applied to the Data- and Data+ pins. I found someone had once posted that if 2.02VDC were applied to Data- (pin 2) and 2.73VDC to Data+ (pin 3), it would tell the device it was capable of supplying 10 Watts (2 amps or 2,000 mA). I see that there are now chargers rated for 15 Watts and curious what voltages should be applied to pins 2 & 3 to let the device know it can provide 15 Watts or 3 amps.
My plan is to convert 13.8VDC from my car battery to 5VDC using a voltage regulator, then using voltage dividers with varying resistors calculated to provide the proper voltage to pins 2 & 3.

The problem with that is they don't make a device for installing in the dash of a car to provide USB ports. I am wanting to eliminate external converters and use a Lightning-to-USB cable to go from the dash to the device. I can ensure that my USB plug will provide the standard 5VDC within standard deviation of ±0.25 VDC. As Data- and Data+ are signals to tell charging circuit available current and the fact (that Rudegar pointed out) current is pulled, not pushed, it should not do any damage to device. The problem with some charging devices is their specifications for voltage vary too much... it could be 6 volts or 4 volts... 6 volts is over the deviation of 0.25 volts. I would bench test my circuitry before installing to ensure voltages are exact.
Granted, I could just go measure the voltages on these pins on the block that came with my iPhone 5s, I was just hoping that someone here knew the information and I wouldn't have to reverse-engineer.

  • USB charger for Zen xt

Is there a USB-port charger for the zen xtra? That'd sure be nice.

Its a pitty, considering the importance of having power connected during transfer it would be very useful indeed, but I would imagine that the strain USB ports powersupply would be to great and the unit would not charge during tranfer and possibly cause damage to the unit or the PC, most PCs only supply 500mA through there usb ports. thats just not enough.

  • USB to micro USB charging question

I was about to buy an in-car charger for my 9630. Since i have an in-car usb port, I;m wondering if I can just get a USB to microUSB cable, connect the phone to the car, and get a charge. Thanks,
    jwp48

yes provided the voltage and amperage delivered by your in-car charger matches the requirement of the 9630. go to shopblackberry and look at the playbook charger, it is compatible with the 9630 and has the voltage you want as well as a very highh amperage that brings no harm to a 9630.
    - the voltage of your in-car must be the same.
    - the amperage of your in-car is okay if it is below the PlayBook charger's amperage.

  • USB Charger question

    Hey, everyone.
I just wanna know if the new iPod wall charger works on 20 voltage.
Thanks to those who will fill me in about this.

I think you are missing a digit there somewhere. So I am not sure if you are asking about 120V or 220V or 240V or ... etc.
But generally, the Appe branded wall charger will use any world input voltage which means 100-240V. I was not aware there was a new model out, but if there is, I am sure it is like the old/current model where it supports that same full range of input voltages.

  • Will Zen Micro Charger work with Zen Vision

    Hi,
I'm wondering if the charger (AC Charger that is)i use to charge my Zen Micro 5GB will charge my Zen Vision:M ?
The Voltage is the same - 5Volts
    Any suggestions?

The USB charger does fit the USB Adapter bit on the Vision:M.
Are they different polarities or something?
I would have plugged it in(connected to the mains) If i wasn't in fear of breaking my 2 day old Vision.

  • Accessories that come as standard with the Zen Vision: M 30gb.

Hi,?This may be a silly question, but do headphones come as standard with the Zen Vision: M? The only reason I ask is because I know it isn't standard to get?a charger. Also, there is an option to buy an accessories pack which has a charger but also has earphones. It is possible that these earphones are just better than the ones included but I thought it better to ask the silly question before I buy ?Thanks

hey thanks for the fast reply!
that sounds good. one more qs:
is there a cable available that allows to sync & charge directly from player to usb without using the little dongle attachment thingy. I find it ridiculous that Creative went with a propriety connection! I don't fancy lugging that around everywhere...

  • Zen Vision:M power charger/mains supp

    Hi all.
Just bought this off Ebay so that I can charge my ZVM in less time than the USB lead takes. I believed when I bought it that it was also a power supply, as in, enabled the ZVM to run off the mains and so not use up the battery. Am I wrong here? And if so, what should I be looking for for the latter?
Thx to anyone who can help.

When you run your Zen Vision: M off any charger and use it while its plugged in it doesnt take any power from the battery, it uses power from your plug that is transfered through the adapter. Using your Zen Vision:M while charging does slow down the charging process a little bit, but not by much. I hope this explanation has solved your question.

  • Zen Vision M: Unable to charge. Nearly to give product back (forev

    Hello,
I purchased a Zen Vision M two weeks ago. When I arri've at home I installed the software successfully and then connected the Zen Vision M to my USB poert on my laptop (Win XP Pro SP2) to charge it; no sign of life. No display activity and NO LED CHARGE ACTIVITY. I letf the ZVM an entire night to see if things changed, but no success. I've tried the following:
    - Disable power saving on usb port: no sign of life
    - Gave everyone permission on usb port: no sign of life
    - Push reset button and the recharge: no sign of life
    - Tried on a different PC: no sign of life
So I retuned to the shop and:
    - We checked with a differnt cable and with a desktop on the shop: no sign of life.
I asked to change the ZVM with another one. Yesterday, after TWO WEEKS of delay (because the shop had to order since it was the last ZVM they had), I had the new ZVM. Result: NO SIGN OF LIFE once again.
    Note that:
    - my USB ports (of both laptop) works perfectly with other devices
    - my usb ports have power: I have a USB PC Lamp, and a USB Optical Mouse and they works perfectly.
    - I let the ZMV connected to the USB port always more than 8 hour. The Laptop power option was set to avoid hybernate or suspend status
    - No application was running during charge
I tryed to find a phone tech support, but - despite the statement on the creative site - in italy there is no phone support, just via e-mail.
If the customer support will not able to resolve the problem I'll give my ZVM back (forever) and I will ask my money back.
My percption of the problem is that the ZVM have battery completed depleted and USB is not able to provide enough power to charge. But the fact that not even the LED id flashing let me with no clue.
I kindly ask the community if someone had the same problems, and if there are any suggestion that AT LEAST let my charge led flashing.
Sorry, for the long post, but I'm really upset with the whole situation.
    Thank you in advance.

I am new to these forums. So bear with me. I am in the Oz outback.
In a possible answer to your problem IlRiccardo I purchased two Zen Vision M units this past week with the same problem. I returned the first unit and got my money back. I purchased a second unit from a different supplier in a another town. Same problem again The second time I did read the supplied booklets in more detail pouring over every word. I found what the symbols in the top right of the screen was suppose to mean. I did purchase units with the Creative supplied powerpack. I was able power the unit up on the external power pack.
    Q. Do you have a symbol that looks like a plug with two prongs on it's
Q2. What is the version number of the installed firmware?
I had that symbol on the top right of the screen. I found through a small Product Information booklet that it was to indicate a fully charged battery and operating on external power. RUBBISH (to the charged battery) as it was a brand new unit. The firmware version installed in both ZENs was .30.xx (cannot remember the last two digits).
I checked the Creative FAQ pages at my daughter's place (in town where I purchased second unit) and found a page listing most of the same symptons as I was experiencing. The download page was talking about a version .50.xx. The link was for a downloadable version of .6.0.
Subsequently I did download the update file and installed it. Low and behold my ZEN Vision M now showed the symbol for a charging battery. The unit did charge up and is working on the battery. Firmware Version .6.0
Check with your supplier/shop where you purchased your ZEN to see if this action will void the warranty? My supplier is suggesting it has!!!!. I hope I don't have to go down the warranty path for any reason.
Hope this helps you and others.
I have post an almost similarly worded reply in another thread about "not charging" SO it is a firmware version issue in my view.
