Usb connection printer, router, two computers on LAN?

I recently got a TP-Link WDR4300 (N750) router with two usb jacks. I have a HP OfficeJet 5610 printer's usb output plugged into the router usb jack. On the network I have an Imac 10.4.11 and a Macbook 10.5.xx. The Imac recognizes the printer and will print. However, the Macbook sees the printer, but will not print. Both computers are plugged into the router by ethernet cables.
There are many posts regarding setting up printers with macs in various configurations. But I have not seen any where there are two computers on the LAN and one computer will print and the other does not.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.
Richard

You could try [iStat Menus|http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/25230/istat-menus].
I use this to monitor temps, fan speed, disk usage, read/write speed, CPU usage and of course, network throughput.
Hope this helps...

  • Can't 'Scan to Email' on USB connected printer to AE (Bridge mode)

Can't 'Scan to Email' on USB connected printer to 2nd AE (in Bridge mode extending wireless network).
    Prints fine though.
Printer is set to static IP adress (192.168.0.50).
Upstream Router is: 192.168.0.1 (this is connected to first AE).
When the printer was previously attached (by ethernet cable) to 1st AE, everything was working fine and I could login to printer Admin page via Safari by tying IP Address.

Only the print function is supported when a multi-function device is connected to the USB port on an AirPort router.
Advanced features like scan, copy, maintenance, etc are not supported at the USB port.

You will need to install an App like Print Central on the iPad to try to print to the printer. It will allow you to print to most printers. Check with their support folks if you need more info.

  • Connecting to USB connected printer via LPD

    Hi there,
Does anyone know if you can access a USB attached printer using the LPD protocol? I cannot find this in the Time Capsule documentation.
I'm helping a Yosemite user where Bonjour is not working and thus the USB connected printer is not being advertised in order to add it.
How to get Yosemite to see new printer driver for Canon via Bonjour
For other brands, the USB port has a name like Port1 or PR1. So I would like to know if the Time Capsule supports such a connection.
    Thanks
    PaHu

Hello PAHU. I'm thrilled to have run across you on the Apple site. Your post (below) is exactly what I need help with:
"Rather than use Bonjour, which seems to have a problem for some users who have updated to Yosemite, you can use one of the IP protocols included with OS X. To do so you will need to find the IP address the printer is using. If you need help with that, reply with the model of Canon you have.
With the IP address noted, open Printers & Scanners and click the plus button to add. Select the IP icon and enter the Canon IP address in the Address field. Change the Protocol to LPD and leave the Queue blank. Change the Name to the model of Canon and then in the Use menu, select the appropriate Canon driver for your model. Click the Add button to complete the printer creation and then see if you can print."
Kindly please tell me how to find my printer's IP address. I am desperately trying to reconnect to my Canon PIXMA MP500 since upgrading to Yosemite. I will be in your debt!
    Thank you most kindly!

  • Printing from a WinXP PC to an iMacG5 USB connected printer

My iP4000 is attached to my iMacG5 computer via USB and prints well when the print message is engaged from the iMacG5. The problem is that the printer refuses to print when the print request is made from my WinXP PC via home network. The WinXP PC is conneced to the iMacG5 via a Linksys wireless router. I followed the WinXP directions and used the "printers and fax" add printer wizard. It found the correct printer name and engaged file sharing. The canon printer utility says a print was being completed with no errors, however, no print has been made and nothing comes out of the printer. I have removed the print driver program and reinstalled it on my WinXP PC with the same results. How can I correct this problem?

I have follwed the instructions provided in the html link but I still can not get my Lexmark 5470 to print. I even tried to add a printer using CUPS but that is not working either. Printer works great on the Mac and it will print if directly connected to the PC. I can not get it to print over my wireless network. Any suggestions are appreciated.

  • Cant access usb connected printer?

I'm unable to print over a printer usb connected to an airport extreme.

Not all printers are compatible with the USB port on the AirPort Extreme and there is no "official" compatibility list available, so you need to keep that in mind.
If you are using Windows XP, have you installed Bonjour for Windows on the PC? If yes, please provide any error messages that you have received.
Please list the steps that you have already taken to configure things so that we don't ask you to perform things that you have already done.

  • Connecting iPod to two computers

I'm not sure if this is possible, but I was under the impression when I bought my iPod that it could be synchronised with two computers. I have 2 Macs at home and want to also sync with my PC at work. Is there any way to do this?
    Thanks

You can't "sync" that is automatically update an iPod from multiple libraries or computers. If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. In this mode you can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod 101: Fill 'er Up
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
One final thing, If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because Windows operating systems don't recognize Mac OS-formatted disks (HFS or HFS Plus formats): How to determine your iPod's disk format
Macs can read Windows drives so you could restore and format the iPod on a PC. iTunes will allow you to use an iPod formatted for Windows on a Mac. One proviso is that all future software updates for the iPod would have to be carried out in Windows to maintain the formatting. Alternatively there are third party programs that will allow you to use a Mac formatted iPod on Windows, this is one for instance gets good reviews. It's a commercial program so you'll have to purchase a license to use it: XPlay 2

  • Can I access printer from two computers?

I would like to print wirelessly from my new Windows laptop to the printer which is currently connected by USB cable to my iMac. I tried the Netgear boards first but the response they supplied was Windows-specific.
The PC is connected wirelessly via a Netgear DG834Gv3 router to AOL (UK) and my Mac is connected wirelessly via an Apple Airport to a different, cable network. Ideally, I''d like both computers to print wirelessly and I was hoping the Netgear router would provide the solution.
It may be pertinent to add that the Airport is stuck in the room the cable comes in, the iMac and printer are stuck in another room but the Netgear router can go just about anywhere.
Am I right thinking settings need to be tweaked on the Mac and a cable will connect the printer to the router?

I have bourgth a new HP printer (HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf Multifunction Printer), run the setup, connect it via USB to my computer (Windows 7).
Now I want to print via AirPrint from my iPad (latest OS). My router is FRITZ!Box 7330.
But how do it? I can not find any instruction how to connect my HP printer to my WiFi. I think I have to select the name of my WiFi and enter the password.? Or should I connect my HP printer with a Ethernet cable to my router FRITZ!Box 7330?
    I found no instruction
What can I do to let my HP printer appears in my iPad as an AirPrinter?
    How to print via AirPrint?
Thank you for any help or hint!!

    Hi,
It does not have wireless card therefore you have to connect to a wireless network to be able to use AirPrint otherwise they can't see each other. Don't ask me why HP did not include a wireless card to this printer.
    Regards.

  • Network host busy on USB connected printer

Appreciate any advice or tips. I have a HP Photosmart C4200 plugged via USB to iMac running 10.6.4, prints fine, and print sharing is on. From my MacBook Pro running 10.5.8 I can connect to the printer using hostname-iMac.local. No documents (Word, notepad, etc.) will successfully print from MBP to printer on iMac, all attempts result in Network Host "hostname" is busy; will retry in .....seconds. Seems like this should be simple, what have I done to complicate it? Thanks.

Only the print function is supported when a multi-function device is connected to the USB port on an AirPort router.
Advanced features like scan, copy, maintenance, etc are not supported at the USB port.

  • Using USB Connected Printer

What am I missing? I want to be able to connect my Dell all-in-one printer to the AE and print from my laptop over wireless. Problem is, when I connect the printer this way how will I be able to print from my hard-wired desktop? The desktop PC does not have wireless.

"The desktop PC does not have wireless." its connected thru ethernet, so the printer connected to the usb port on the Extreme router will show as Bonjour for the desktop. I don't run Windows and think you need a free piece of software called Bonjour something from Apple. Maybe others can chime in here.

  • Printing from two computers

is it possible to link a hp printer with a mac and a pc ( sorry ! ) ?

    Hi John,
    Welcome to the forum.
    Yes, of course it is
If the printer has an ethernet port you can add it to the network; you'll nee to have the print drivers installed on both computers with this route. Failing that, or alternatively, you can connect it to either the Mac or PC and enable print sharing.
For step by step instructions on print sharing look here:

  • HP USB-connected printer not showing up, no way to add it???

I upgraded to Leopard and lost the ability to scan from my HP PSC 2210. I know this is because HP haven't got around to writing new software for Leopard yet, so I'm waiting for them to release this. I was just happy that I could still print via the 2210 by just using the Leopard supplied print driver (may have been a generic one).
I've had trouble printing recently and deleted the printer from my list of printers. When I try to add it back via print and fax manager, it doesn't show up in the default list (even though it's connected via USB). If I select More Printers, all I get is "HP IP Printing" as an option - according to apple's support page, I should have a list of printers here (and I'm sure I used to). I don't even have a generic printer option.
What can I do to install the printer now? The driver on HPs website is only for OSX 10.3, it says use the apple ones for tiger and leopard.
I've tried unplugging, replugging, rebooting etc...

Hi! It may have been just that plugging in the usb cable when it wanted you to caused it to recognize it. The computer senses when something is plugged in and the installer may have needed to be at that point and have the cable plugged in at that precise time in order to complete the install. Heck if I knew the answer to that sorta question I could be an expert. (An expert you know is anyone that's 50 miles from home!). Anyway, always glad to help. Tom

  • Connecting iPod to two computers - not setup for Apple account ...

A co-worker bought an iPod classic and downloaded and installed iTunes on his desktop computer at home.
He did NOT create an iTunes account at the time. He just imported music off his hard drive and CDs and then sync'd his iPod. After that he started creating playlists.
Now he has a laptop that he wants to also connect the iPod too. He downloaded iTunes, connected the iPod, and it says it was sync'd to another computer and do you want to erase all the files off the iPod and sync it with iTunes on this computer. I told him to click on cancel.
The question is, how does he get it so both computers have the same account?
The easier one to modify would be the laptop. We can copy iTunes folder to somewhere else to back them up. Now how do we create a compatible account on the laptop so the iPod knows it is the same account? Does that make sense?
I did have him create an iTunes account and I would like to get both of his Windows computers set so that this is the account both computers see.
Thanks in advance for your help.

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different. You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    Syncing Music to iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Once you are connected you can change to manual as per the instructions above: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
