USB device can perform faster

Hi: I'm new to this site so I pray that someone can help out. I own a Sony PCG-61611L or a VPCCE25FX, he proble I'm having is every now ant then I get a message "USB port can perform faster if connected to a USB 2.0 device, I have checked all mu USB ports and they all work, I also noticed an issue with my Ethernet Controller, not sure if the ethernet controller and the USB ports are connected? I deleted the ethernet controler from the device manager and restarted my laptop, the ethernet controller was reinstalled but it still had the same issues. as I stated I don't understand computers and I don't know if the USB port issues and the Ethernet Controller are related, all I know is both are giving me error messages, sony does not show software downloads for my system, at least I can't find driver for either issue, I have searched the internet for soultions without success, any help will be greatly appreciated. mama4252

Hi mama4252,
I am sorry to hear your issue. By the way, I think the correct model name is VPCEE25FX, not VPCCE25FX correct? When was the first time you encounter this issue? Is there any USB devices connected to the laptop? What is the Operating System of the laptop? For the mean time, kindly follow the troubleshooting steps here:
Power cycle - remove the battery and all peripherals -> press and hold the power button for 5 seconds
Reset BIOS
Install or update these drivers: Sony® Notebook Utilities, Sony® Firmware Extension Parser Device Driver, Sony® Shared Library
If the issue persists while a USB device in plugged in, check the specs of the USB device. It should match the spec of the port, which is USB 2.0. If the device is just 1.0, then there nothing wrong the the port.
You may also reinstall the wireless LAN (Marvell® Atheros® AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter Driver).
Hope these help.
Best regards,
Vincent

  • Hey looking to sync my iphone with itunes. However it fails to appear in iTunes. I have checked my USB ports and there is an 'enhanced device' present, however when i connect my iPhone 3gs, a pop-up window says that 'This device can perform faster'

Hey, just bought an iPhone 3GS off a friend an am looking to sync it to iTunes The version is 4.3.3. Is this normal ?. The device fails to appear in Itunes however. I have checked my USB ports under device manager and there is an 'Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller'. Does this mean all my ports are 2.0? When I connect my device it says ' This device Can perform faster' if connected to a USB port. Need Advice.
    Thanks

Minimum requirements for the iPhone 3GS for Windows for USB is 2.0.

Since yours says, "enhanced" .. it should be 2.0
Try disabling a/v software and turning off the Firewall then sync.

  • T40 USB "This Device can perform faster" issue

    Hi,
    OS: Windows XP sp3.
The USB is just using USB 1.1 speed and informs that "This device can perform faster...". I do have google for this issue in an hour now without a solution. The driver on your page is aimed for NT4 system. Where can I find a driver to get the proper speed? Or FAQ post, just something.
    Thanks in advance

In your searching, were you able to find this link?: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-50838
Even though the document refers to Windows 2000, it implies you need the latest Intel chipset drivers for the 845 and 855 chipsets to get the USB 2.0 support functioning.
The latest Lenovo drivers are available from the Thinkpad Matrix here (which are still pretty old):
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-46058
I had to do something similar (many moons ago) on my old T40, but the Windows XP build I had came with the correct drivers, I just need to use the device manager to update the drivers from the windows defaults to the USB 2.0 version.
    Hope that helps.
    EDIT:
You can also find information on troubleshooting USB 2.0 device issues here:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-4YQHUD.html
The most useful excerpt from that link is probably:
Verify that the USB device is USB 1.1 or 2.0 compliant.
Plugging specific USB 1.1 compliant devices into a USB 2.0 compliant port will cause an error message dialog box to appear. That dialog box details that a non-high speed device has been attached to a high speed port. The device should function normally, but at a slower speed than if a 2.0 device is attached to 2.0 port. Most USB 1.1 devices will function normally in USB 2.0 ports.
In case the issue is with your device(s) driver(s) instead of the USB hub/port driver(s).

  • USB message pop up all the time (the device can perform faster)

Message pop up all the time: the device can perform faster, but I do not have any device pluged to my lap. how can i stop with this messagem. Cheers

    Hello.
I have the same problem, and the error message is exactly what you have written.
    My model is:  A300 - 1MC.
I also have a problem with the Web Cam which I think is linked, it hasn't been loading and turning on.  we have tried the repair function in the drivers and it will then work, but once I move the lid down the camera fails again, at the same time that the error message concerning the USB appears.
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • "This device can perform faster...." - but can it really?

Ok, seems like my iPhone 3G does not really support USB 2.0. Every time I plug it in I get the "This device can perform faster..." message indicating that it is running in USB 1.1 mode - even though the port is USB2.0 and if I plug in a USB2.0 external drive into the same port it works like a charm (at full 2.0 speed).
Give how unstable iPhone's been and how often it requires a full reload, USB1.1 speed is just too painful.
Anyone else run into this? Any suggestions on how to make it run at full speed?
    Thanks.

I am happy it works for you, it worked for me too for a while... then after one sync suddenly my iPod was empty of all content and most of the apps would not run (yet some did - go figure). The funny thing is that most of the content on my iPod was DRM free MP3's - did not matter, they were all inaccessible).
All in all, even if you are, I am not willing to play Russian roulette wondering with each sync if I will be forced to waste hours deleting and restoring my iPhone (and with USB2 broken, it takes hours and hours) and then re-set up all my email, etc - because those settings apparently are not important enough to be saved by a backup - and then deal with loosing app data. Even if majority of the people do not have this issue, enough people did, including myself.
And by the way, when I was running 7.7.1, the USB problem was there just the same - so the only "solution" to it seems to be to sit and wait for apple to fix it.

  • T110-107 "This device can perform faster"

Hi, When I move the lid I get the message "This device can perform faster" referring to USB 2.0. The USB transfer rate is very slow after this message appears. Any ideas? Thanks

Then remove all USB ports and USN hub controllers from the device list.
Reboot the unit and wait until all USB ports would be installed again
But its really strange that this message appears moving the lid
The internal webcam is placed in the screen frame its recognized as an USB device in device manager
Maybe you should reinstall the webcam software too
Or you will remove the cam from device manager firstly and would reboot the unit in order to ensure that the webcam would be initialized again

  • X121e 'This device can perform faster' issue

Hi all. I got this problem with my X121e (AMD E-450): when I insert a USB device into the powered USB slot the 'This device can perform faster' message pops up. Any solution? Could it be a software problem (maybe drivers) or hardware problem? I run Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit. Thank you in advance.

Try a different slot, and if it connects thru a cable between the device and your X121e, try a different cable. Sometimes it's just a question of how you connect, or even what interference is going on around you. It also might happen if you're connecting a USB3 device, in which case there's nothing you can do (USB2 system I believe).

  • USB Device will perform faster

Hello! I just bought a MSI K8N Neo-V V2.0 (MS-7030). Everything were ok. But everytime I plug-in my usb storage devices, a message on the task appears and it says.. "USB Device will perform faster.....bha..bha". Is this means that this mb is not support high-speed usb? What model thus MSI mb's that support high-speed usb? Please help...:(

Quote from: jelodavid on 03-July-06, 12:55:33
I found out that my MSI mb only support USB1.0 not 2.0 according to PC Wizard. But according to its manual, USB 2.0 is supported. MSI manual did lie to me. Anyway thanks for very big help.
That is impossible. The board DOES support USB 2.0, the manual is not lying.
You are not understanding Richard's suggestions, OR, you have not acnowledged if you tried what he suggested.
Are you using an XP installation disk with AT LEAST Service Pack one?
And, have you installed the correct chipset drivers for your motherboard Click Here>>> For nVidia Drivers

  • Windows says: This device can perform faster

I have 2 ipods, ipod photo and an ipod video.
When I connect ipod video on my USB 2.0 port, it works fine no errors are shown. But when I connect my ipod photo, I get a prompt from windows saying: "This device can work faster, its a USB 2.0 device blah blah blah"
is it clashing with drivers for ipod video or there is a problem with my ipod?

There is nothing wrong with your iPod. The message is just alerting you to an issue on your system. Basically, you are not getting USB 2.0 speeds, which means whatever storage device you connect to your laptop is transferring data at much slower speeds. Try different USB ports to resolve the issue. However, it is not THAT big of a deal. Usually, i don't care about it because once you transfer anything through Firewire, you would be amazed by USB 1.0/2.0 slow speeds.
You can also turn off the "error" message: In Device Manager, click on the USB host controller, click the Advanced tab and then check the box on the bottom of the window that says “Don’t tell me about USB errors.” Do this for each USB controller in order to prevent this error no matter which USB port you plug you iPod to.
    Hope this helped.

  • Nano 3g - USB "this device can perform faster" report

I occasionally get this error when I connect my 3rd gen nano - though most of the time it corrects correctly (Dell OptiPlex desktop, Windows 7 32-bit).  I've double checked all the "usual suspects" - tried two different USB cables, different USB ports, checked that all drivers are up to date, yet the error persists.  It seems to be specific to this nano, as neither my 2nd gen (synced using the same cables) and my 7th gen ever give the error.  I've reset the nano, checked that its software is up to date, etc.  Any thoughts on why this may be showing up as an occasional issue, and any further remedies I might try?

  • T40/iPhone Syncing: "Device can run faster if connected to USB 2.0 port."

Each time I sync my iPhone 3G with the T40 (2373-73U), a baloon message appears saying the device will run faster if connected to a USB 2.0 port. I thought it was so connected. I've reviewed the ThinkPad article entitled "Troubleshooting USB Devices" as well as the Microsoft article kb/310575, "Advanced Troubleshooting Tips for General USB Problems in Windows XP." I use Windows XP Professional with SP3.  I confirm that BIOS is enabled for USB 2.0.  I saw something that said IRQ 11 is being used for the USB ports. Pursuing the baloon message, I'm told to unplug the device from the current port and plug it into one connected to the enabled USB 2.0 hub, showing six such ports. But my T40 has only two places in which to plug the iPhone USB cable, and neither will eliminate the message that things will work faster if I use another port. Can any one offer a suggestion?
