USB Device no longer recognized (Ratoc U2SCXU SCSI Converter)

I'm having problems with a device that used to work fine in an older MacOS (10.5, Leopard) but no longer being recognized in Lion. The Ratoc Systems International SCSI COnverter model U2SCXU is no longer visible in System Information, their Utility, nor the scanning software (VueScan). This set up used to work seamlessly in previous OS's.
The Ratoc device is being powered through the SCSI connection and lights the power light no problem. No matter wherther through a hub or direct, the USB is no recognized nor is the software. I tried to email the manufacturer but in the meantime thought to post this as a question while waiting... Does anyone have a similar problem?
Using with a Polaroid SprintScan4000 negative scanner. This device and the converter were all running and playing happily in OS X 10.5. There seems to be nothing I can do to make the device appear in the window, nor be recognized in software. Also tried with laptop running the same OS. I believe this is a software issue with the OS. There is a firmware update that might be able to be applied via the Utility software (U2SCXU_50) from Ratoc website, except that the Utility doesn't see this unit either.

Make sure it's the right series usb 3 driver, series 7 or series 8.  Series 7 drivers are version 1.x and series 8 are version 2.x.  They use the same device id's.

  • Certain USB and firewire devices no longer recognized

I am going to make a solid attempt to communicate the problem, I'm led to believe that there are some configuration settings that need to be corrected to solve this, though I am not able to find it.
    The problem:
(what led up to it) My SSD was knocked out of commission do to plugging in a 'newer technology' 7-port USB hub that had its power supply disconnected. The computer froze, then would not boot. Applecare originally suspected the logic board but found the ssd was knocked out. They reported everything else was fine and the laptop was back in my possesion. I sent in the SSD for warranty replacement and put the original hard drive in. This is when the problem I am having now started.
For some some, a Lacie Rugged FW/USB drive shows up as an unknown device. The USB logitect c910 webcam will not register at all, and the Saffire 6 USB sound card is receiving power with the amp inputs/outputs working...but does not show up in the system preferences for sound. -- There is a second 2TB USB drive (also a rugged lacie) that mounts to the desktop occasionally, but on most reboots it doesn't show up, even in disk utility. When it does show up it appears to be working fine.
    As a note:
    - ALL of the above mentioned devices work properly on my father's PC.
    - USB devices like my iPod, 8gb flash drives, new Belkin slim 7-port hub, all usb midi controllers, and an external CD burner work without issue
What I have already tried (several times):
-- repairing disk permissions and repair disk in disk utility
-- updating to the latest software, and installing the correct drivers for the sound card and webcam. The lacie external hard disks have no drivers for Mac
    -- reseting the PRAM
    -- reseting the SMC
-- plugging them in one at a time, in all ports, and ensuring they all have the correct power supply and working USB cable
-- upgrading from snow leapord to lion to mountain lion on the disk had no effect
-- by luck, I managed to boot up from the 2TB drive which contains a recent clone backup of the SSD. The same problem exists.
Before I ever submit a question, I make a solid effort to research past threads. So far, I have found no additional troubleshooting advice beyond the 7 steps I have tried as covered above. I am still awaiting the replacement SSD drive from owc. Again, the problem devices are:
    - Lacie Rugged FW/USB 500gb external drive
    - Logitech C910 webcam
    - Saffire 6 USB sound card
    - Lacie Rugged 2TB USB external drive (sometimes it shows up)
All have the correct supporting drivers, all 4 are recognized in my father's PC. None of my closest friends own a Mac to test them on theirs. I'm led to believe the problem may be configuration settings-related..though I currently cannot locate where such settings might be. Otherwise I have no clue what the problem is.
I apologize for the length of this post, but my intention is to minimize misunderstanding and rule out the options I've already tried. Any insight on this is appreciated as my music productions depend on both hard drives and the soundcard. Thanks for your time and attention. If any more info is needed I will be more than happy to try to provide it.

    Hi,
Thanks for your post! I took my ibook to an apple shop on monday to which I was told that the panic kernal that occured interrupted my software update and that the best thing to do would be to reinstall tiger. I did that, erasing and installing, and the problem seems to have dissapeared. I just wish I had read your post first! What was interesting was my mouse worked in the USB port but stuff like my memory stick didn't appear in disk utility. I also tried to replace the interrupted software updates with the Power PC combo one but that would not mount. I am not sure what all these means but if anyone has a similar problem to what I had, I suggest reinstalling the OS. Seems like a pretty weird and rare problem to have tho!

  • USB device no longer recognised

I have a GoPro which was working fine on the Apple, I connected it to my sons Windows computer to edit some video, now when I plug it in to the apple it is not showing anywhere! Likewise the external hard drive I used on his computer to transfer the files is no longer recognised on the Apple.
I must be missing something? They are still there showing on the Windows computer.

  • External USB storage no longer recognized by kernel [SOLVED]

    -gparted cannot see it
    -thunar cannot see it
I have a USB mouse and keyboard that work just fine.  Here is my dmesg.  You can see in the last line that something detected me plugging in the USB thumb drive, but that's it.  Is this something with udev or ?
    [ 110.596683] usb 1-3: new high-speed USB device number 4 using ehci_hcd
I found this thread but my problem is different from the op's.
I run the linux-ck package from the AUR but as a sanity check, installed the ARCH kernel package and this problem exists under both:
    $ uname -r
    3.2.6-2-ARCH
Last edited by graysky (2012-02-19 00:44:26)

I know this thread is marked solved, but I have the exact same problem - I just installed the linux-ck package from the AUR (running linux-ck version 3.2.11-1), alongwith the nvidia-ck package. The kernel was compiled with the localmodcfg and BFQ options enabled in the pkgbuild. Now when I plug in an external drive, dmesg detects it, but no device nodes are created under /dev.
There is nothing wrong with the drives (happens with multiple drives) - and they are mounting fine under the stock kernel. lsusb also shows the drive present. I thought this might be an issue with needing to rebuild initramfs using mkinitcpio, but the available hooks seem to include all the usual ones from the stock kernel, nor does the wiki article mention needing to do such a thing. Any ideas?
EDIT: I didn't notice in the OP that the problem persisted with both the -ck kernel and the stock kernel. In my case, it only persists with the -ck kernel - and this happens on two different computers.

  • External USB harddrive no longer recognized/accepted

    Hi,
Since updating to Mac OS X 10.5.9 my Mac doesn't recognize/accept one of my external USB harddrives--both are Western Digital ones, which I'm using successfully for more than one year now--, and upgrading to Snow Leopard didn't resolve this issue (see console output at the end).
Changing USB ports--hub, directly on my Mac--is to no avail either.

    Hi,
Well, at least momentarily this issue seems to be resolved, although I quite can't grasp all of it.
I've unplugged the external drive in question, both from the USB hub, as well as from the power jack, waited now for two days, until just a couple of minutes reconnecting everything again, starting with the power supply, and after some seconds the USB followed.
Et voilá the drive is being recognized and mounted again.
Weird, really weird, as I haven't got the slightes clue whatever, when this will arise the next time!

  • USB Devices No longer working afte 10.4 update.

My external USB 2 drive is now no longer recognized by my Macs after the upgrade. The weird thing is that if I run Parrallels they appear as normal.
The drive does not appear in disk manager put does on hardware profiler.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Steve,
As Eric says, you may be able to repair this with 10.4.10 Combo Updater Intel.
This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before. It has worked well for many.
Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
    Good luck.
EDIT: You can't "reverse the patch" without erasing your drive and re-installing. Hopefully, you won't have to.

  • The computer says the USB device is not recognized

I have had my iPod for almost a year now and I have not had any problems with it up until now. About a week ago, my computer stopped recognizing my iPod. It showed up on the computer as an unknown device. The computer had been recognizing it before, and I was downloading from iTunes and nothing was going wrong. I plugged my iPod into another computer to see if the iPod or the cable were the problem, but the other computer recognized it. I do not think it is a problem with this computer because other USB devices work in it. I tried every USB port on the computer. I already looked at the troubleshooting page for this problem, and that did not work. Can anyone help me?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Reset the iPod. It may work for you. Several attempts may be needed.

  • Satellite L30: Usb device not is recognized

I have a problem with my L30 laptop.
When I'm connecting my phone or usb stick or external hdd it says: Usb device not recognized one of usb devices has malfunctioned.
Tried to reinstall windows didn't help...
    is there any solution?

    Hi
Hmm. You should firstly disconnect all USB external devices.
Then go to the device manger and remove all USB root hubs and USB host controllers.
    Then reboot the notebook.
After this procedure the OS should recognize and should install the ports again.
Now you could connect some plug-and play devices. These devices should be recognized automatically. But some external USB devices need additional drivers.
Generally such drivers are delivered together with the USB device.
I would recommend checking this if necessary!

  • Samson Studio GT USB Speakers no longer recognized

    All,
I have 2 MacBooks with Yosemite on them.  I have the Studio GT external USB speakers.  Now, what seems to be randomly, the speakers are not visible in system preferences under sound.  I follow the mfg instructions of, plug them into the wall, plug in the usb, turn them on.  The mac will recognize them.  This use to work but no longer.  Now, when I do that, there is nothing int he system preferences.  The power light is on the speaker and they have an input for a mic.  If I use the mic, the sound comes out of the speakers so I know the speakers work.  Also, since these do not work on both MacBooks, but did in the past, has me suspicious.  Both MacBooks are running Yosemite 10.10.2.  Not only is it not displayed in system preferences / sound but its not displayed in the system report.  Nothing appears to be plugged into the USB port but the speakers are.
    Any help is appreciated!!!!
    Thanks in advance.

    Hey there W_Ray,
It sounds like these USB speakers aren't working correclty on either of 2 computers, not even if you power cycle them. Normally that would indicate an issue with the speakers themselves, but if you would like to, you can try troubleshooting for USB issues on one or both of the Macs with this article:
OS X Yosemite: If a USB device isn’t working
    Check power and cables:
Make sure the USB device is turned on and its cables are properly connected.
    Check for missing software:
Make sure you installed the latest software for your device. Visit the manufacturer’s website for any updates.
If the device is connected to a USB hub:
Make sure the device and the hub are the same speed. Connect USB 3.0 SuperSpeed devices to a USB 3.0 SuperSpeed HUB, USB 2.0 Hi-Speed devices to a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed hub, and so on.
If the device doesn’t have a power cord and is plugged into another USB device that doesn’t have a power cord:
Try plugging the device directly into your computer’s USB port  or into a USB device that does have a power cord. You might need to disconnect and reconnect the other device as well, if it has stopped responding.
If you have many devices connected to your Mac:
Disconnect all USB devices except the device you’re testing, an Apple keyboard, and an Apple mouse. Make sure that the device is connected directly to the computer, and that any hubs or extension cables are disconnected. If you can use the device now, the problem may be with one of the other USB devices or hubs you had connected to your computer. Try reconnecting them, one by one, to your computer. When you find the device causing the problem, review its documentation for further troubleshooting steps.
Verify that the device appears in System Information:
Choose Apple menu > About This Mac. In the window that appears, click Overview, then click the System Report button to open System Information.
In the window that appears, see if the USB device is listed below Hardware in the Contents list. If the device appears but does not work, review the device’s documentation for further troubleshooting steps.
    Restart apps:
Quit and restart any apps that use the device.
    Restart your Mac:
    Choose Apple menu > Restart.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • USB Device Is Not Recognized

  • USB scanner no longer recognized by MacBook

I have a Fujitsu ScanSnap 1500M which worked wonderfully until very recently. The scanner itself appears to still work but my MB does not recognize it.
The problem started after I made a couple of changes to my setup:
    (1) I switched computers with my wife, migrating accounts between the two laptops
    (2) I installed a Magic Trackpad (performs poorly with bluetooth connection constantly failing)
    (3) I installed Office 2011 for Mac
    (4) I upgraded OS X to 10.6.5 (the scanner may have worked after this update - I don't remember exactly).
    THE PROBLEM:
The scanner thinks it is connected (the blue light comes on when I plug in the USB cable) but the MB doesn't "see" the scanner. When I go to the USB device tree in >> About This Mac >> More Info... the scanner doesn't show up.
    WHAT I'VE DONE SO FAR:
    - checked USB cables, rebooted etc
    - updated ScanSnap Manager to the latest version
    - reset PRAM to defaults
    - created a new test user account
None of the above has made any difference. The scanner still doesn't work.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
