USB device not recognized for iphone

My iphone 4S had an issue and was sent away for repair and in the end it was replaced. I backed all my Apps up to ITunes before sending it away.
I tried plugging my new Iphone into my laptop and it comes up with the error "USB device not recognized", although it worked fine before I sent the phone away.
I went to my device manager and found the device, however it says Unknown device and when I try to update it is says that this is the most up to date version.
I uninstalled ITunes and reinstalled it which made no difference. ITunes also does not find the phone.
I also removed all the Apple programs on my laptop and then tried to connect the phone again but this made no difference.
I have restarted the laptop and this also made no difference.
I called the Apple help line and they can not work it out and suggest I take the phone back to the shop to be checked.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?

DId you uninstall iTunes and all it's components? Or just the iTunes program?  Apple Mobile Device would be the main cause more than likely. So it is important whether you uninstalled all the programs or just iTunes. If so what I would try next is putting the device into recovery mode and seeing if it detects it like that.

  • USB Device Not Recognized when Iphone connected to PC

    Hello,
Every time I connect my Iphone 4S to my PC I get the error "USB Device Not Recognized". I did not have this problem before. I tried uninstalling Itunes and all its components and reninstalling it, restaring my computer, restarting Iphone and I even reset all the setting on my Iphone. I connected my wife's Iphone 4 using the same cable and PC and connected and started syncing with Itunes right away. If anyone has any pointers on how to fix this problem, any help will be much appreciated.

    try reseting the phone
    RESET DEVICE
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for device to restart (no data will be lost).

  • USB Device Not Recognized for iPod on HP pavilion zd7310us w/ XP

Hi, I'm being told by Windows that the iPod needs drivers to be detected properly (which doesn't sound right to me...).
At first it wasn't even charging when plugged into a USB port. I've since reset it 3 times and solved that problem.
However, it still tells me that it's an unrecognized device. The laptop is about a year old, give or take 3 months, so I don't think the USB hardware version is a problem. The USB ports work, my optical mouse is currently plugged in and working fine.
The iPod also doesn't show up in either Windows Explorer or iTunes.
    Any suggestions??

Alright, nevermind. After reading about the cable problems I went out and got another. Seems to be working now.

sprakanitezz, download and install the latest Nokia PC Suite or Ovi Suite and the Nokia Software Updater. Now, connect your phone to the PC using the USB cable and choose PC Suite mode in the pop-up menu. It should get detected properly.
If it's not the case, I would suspect a faulty USB cable.
Check what version of firmware is there in your phone. From the many forums, I've heard that v21 is more stable than v30. Therefore, it will be better if you do some research on whether to update to the latest one immediately.

  • TS1538 iphone 4s USB device not recognized

I've not had any issues until now.  I'm on a 64bit Windows 7 PC.  Iphone 4s. Recently transfered pictures from the phone to the pc.  After that time it will not recognize the iphone at all.  I get the error "USB device not recognized."  I followed the article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538  but it's still not working.  I have done a soft reset on the phone and a hard reset, no dice.  The phone connects fine to any other computer except this one.  I have also attempted to delete all device drivers and reinstalled them to no avail.  Please help!

    Hi and thanks for replying.
Yeah I have gone through that help article and unfortunately nothings worked. It just seems odd that the computer would recognise it in some way but not properly, which made me think it might be to do with software rather than hardware, but I see your point in that it probably is a hardware issue. I would have liked to get a newer one however I am already in a contract which I don't have the money to cancel and I managed to get the 2g very cheap. It would be fantastic if I could get this one going!
    Thanks a lot

Try leaving it plugged in and then restart the computer.
If you are on Windows this link may help but it is a bit old.

  • Hi Any time i plug mt iphone 4 in i get message usb device not recognized what can i do to fix this i am runnung Windows 7 and my phone is dead

Hi, whenever I try to plug in my iphone to a computer it says, "USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED". I just want my phone to charge because it is dead. Ive tried to charge on my xbox, nothing. Tried a different charger, nothing.

Try cleaning the connector on the bottom of the phone. Use a magnifying glass to see what is stuck inside, a dry toothbrush and/or wood or plastic toothpicks (nothing metal). If that doesn't resolve the problem your phone is broken.

  • USB device not recognized win7 iPod Touch 1g

My computer will not recognize my 1st Gen Ipod Touch 8gb when I plug it into my USB port. I get a message USB Device Not Recognized. I've tried everything from resetting the iPod, uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes and all other Apple related programs, to fiddling with the settings in my Device Manager. It will only recognize it as an Unknown Device, not even an Apple device.
What should I do? I just got this thing through a trade, it's clean, wifi works fine, in great condition. I just don't know what to do! It won't show up in iTunes at all, won't show up as a mass storage device, nothing. I am running Windows 7. I've also tried using different cords, different usb ports, and another computer. None of that made a difference.

  • 80gb Classic won't sync or charge; "USB Device Not Recognized"

I have an 80gb classic, and a 5th gen. 30gb ipod both with the same issue. I recently rebuilt mine and my husband's computers with new MB's and Processors. I reformatted the HDD's and then installed all necessary drivers and the like along with the newest itunes 9. My ipods had no previous problems and worked like a charm 5 mins earlier.
I hooked them up to my computer and windows came up with an error message saying "USB Device Not Recognized...one of the usb devices has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it." I put in my other ipod, same error message.
I have tried everything to fix this including, unplugging all usb's but ipod and trying all usb ports, reinstalling usb drivers, switching to 1.1, uninstalling itunes completely and using older versions 5-8, wiping OS and installing vista instead of XP, putting ipod into disk mode, resetting ipod numerous times, among some other things. This error message comes up on all computers in the house (4) including ones that have not been wiped or upgraded.
In addition to windows and itunes not seeing it, it will not charge via USB or wall AC power. The Ipods are devoid of charge now, but when they were full on battery life they still played music through headphones and stereo with no issues, they just won't do anything computer related it seems.
I have not given up hope because I have about 20gb of music and vids I foolishly didn't back up and I want it back. How is this possible that 2 ipods were fine one second then broken the next? Please, Please, Please need help.

I have a Dell Laptop that I've been synching my iPhone with for six months. Now all of the sudden the connection has been lost. I'm having the same problem as you describe and have tried everything I have seen on this forum and elsewhere to fix it, but nothing is working.
I think it is an issue with the driver, but I have confirmed that usbaapl.sys driver is installed in "Program Files," "Common Files," "Apple," "Mobile Device Support" folder. I tried copying the driver and putting it in the main Apple folder, but that doesn't help either. I have tried removing and reinstalling iTunes multiple times, rebooting my iPhone and computer (many, many times). I've tried updating the driver and pointing the USB device directly to the driver, but it does not see it. The strange thing is that when my iPhone is plugged in, it charges just fine. It just won't connect to iTunes or synch with my outlook anymore.
Does anyone have any suggestions? This is a major issue for me as I have to synch calendars to be able to function between work and home. Doubly frustrating that it used to work and now it does not. The only thing that has changed is that I installed printer software and updated iTunes. No other changes to my computer that I am aware of between when it worked and now.
