USB devices deactivated message, even though none connected

I'm getting the infamous warning message, that One or more USB devices are drawing too much power and the device/s is/are being deactivated, etc. etc.
Even though I have no USB devices connected.
Anyone else have this problem?
I have a 2007 Core 2 Duo 2.16, just updated to 10.6.8.
To see if it was a hardware problem I installed Windows 7 Ultimate as the only operating system and I didn't get any messages re. USB problems.
So I wiped the HD and installed Snow Leopard. Immediately started getting the USB messages, one after the other on screen.
I've also switched off Bluetooth and the iSight, in case that might help re. power being used by USB.
Any way to solve this, without swapping logic boards?
Could I just continue like this, and use no USB devices? If so, can I turn off the warning messages so they don't appear every 20 seconds?
Probable hardware problem? Or software?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Suspiciously similar situation here. I have a Macbook Pro Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013 with Mavericks. I (successfully) installed Windows 7 on Parallels Desktop few days ago and now I am constantly getting this "USB Devices Disabled..." message, even though nothing is plugged into the USB ports. At some point both of my ports were not working but I reset PRAM and SMC and now it is just the right side port that is not working. It does, however, power some devices like external discs. When an external disc is plugged into the right USB port, the "USB Devices Disabled..." message, once closed, does not come up again until the moment the disc is disconnected (not valid for the left port, though).
Any help would be much appreciated.
