USB Dock 3.0 Audio through DVI-HDMI cable?

Hey there!
I currently own the yoga 2 pro and I am looking for a suitable dock. One thing that prevented me from ordering the usb 3.0 dock was that I am not sure whether with a DVI to HDMI cable I am able to get audio from my laptop to a TV.
For better understanding: Laptop -> USB 3.0 -> USB 3.0 Dock -> DVI -> HDMI -> TV
I asked my local retailer and they said it isn't possible but I am not sure whether they tested my method. They said I'll be needing a seperate audio jack cable -.- ugly... with my old 460 GTX I was able to transmit sound with the same DVI/HDMI cable
Can anyone who owns the USB 3.0 dock confirm that audio through DVI-HDMI cable to a TV is working / not working?
Any help is appreciated!
Greetings

DVI won't carry audio on the ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock.

Hi i upgraded from lion to mountain lion to day on my mini mac,Since the upgrade i am no longer getting sound through my HDMI cable which was working fine on lion Checked the midi audio settings and system preferences to out on HDMi nothing no sound whats so ever.Any one any ideas?
I use a samsung TV for my monitor via HDMI.Tried all the system Audi setting nothing .Head phone and internal speakers are fine.

Similar issue; Audio was working fine on Lion, now not on Mountain Lion. Have a Macbook Pro early 2011 with AMD Radeon HD 6750M, connected by thunderbolt through a Lacie LBD to a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter (n.b. same problem when not going through the LBD) to a Pioneer VSX 521 AV receiver. For me when I go into audio Midi settings all the volume sliders for the displayport device are greyed out and at zero. But when I click 'configure speakers', it's able to send out the test signals to each speaker. Part of the problem could be that I'm not getting the option to put out 6channel sound, only 2 or 8 channel. Since my system is Dolby 5.1, and I only have 6 speakers, I would have expected the 6ch option to be available. But I imagine there's more to it than that. Elsewhere someone has suggested playing with Remote Interactive over HD on an Onkyo device; I'll see if there's something similar on the Pioneer that can be changed. Any other suggestions welcome.

  • Why does my Apple TV on 5.2.1 not send audio through the optical cable to my ONKYO receiver?

So I have my ATV hooked up to my tv through the HDMI cable because when I try do it it through my AV Receiver tx-ar608 from ONKYO then there is no picture nor any audio. The receiver works fine with anything else (e.g. bluray player, wii, playstation, laptop). To answer some questions that might pop up, yes I am very sure I am on the right channel and yes, the audio settings of the AVR are compatible with the ones of ATV. Now I can plug my HDMI cable into my tv and get some sound but as its only the tv speakers its pretty crap and i bought my ATV mainly to listen to music from my library. I tried to connedt my ATV with a digital audio cable and I can see the red light and it is plugged into the right socket and it is on the right setting and channel (games) but there is no audio from the receiver but only from the tv... Please help me with this.
    Much appreciated, Neil

    Hello Damian!
    Thank´s for your helping answer!
Let me ask some more questions for better understanding:
Is there a difference to load the new software with usb / Itunes ? Will Itunes find automatically the new apple TV update 5.0 (we talk about the latest and newest update with the different user surface)
If "my" itunes won´t find the new software update, is the are chance or possibility to install the downloaded version, which i found in the internet. It is the version 1_5.0_9B179b_Restore.ipsw (487 MB size)? How will i get this version into Itunes?
Maybe you can answer my new questions.
Thank you once again for your efforts.

  • Using a DVI HDMI cable with my Sharp Aquos LC-52D62U 1080p

    Hello
I have a Mac Mini Intel proc with 4GB RAM (max RAM).
I'm trying to get it to work with my Sharp Aquos LC-52D62U 52" TV. The TV supports 1080p native, and the mini has had no issues connecting to this TV before. I just re-installed 10.6 (with all updates) and it does not want to connect.
I have a direct DVI > HDMI cable going from the Mini directly to the back of the TV. I tested other devices on that TV input and the TV works fine. I'm also convinced that the cable is fine as it worked before the re-install of the system.
I can see the Mac Mini using screen sharing on my Mac Pro, so I can make changes to the configuration over the network. The screen settings on the Mini are set to "1080p (Television)" just like they were when it all worked fine. But the TV screen is black. No picture at all.
What can I do about this?
    Thanks,

Hello Mac Mini world. I tried to connect my new Mac Mini to a 2 year old 32" Insignia Flat Screen HDTV through HDMI for hours however there was always part of the screen cut off even after adjusting both the resolution ratio on TV and Mini. After 3 calls to Insignia TV and Apple Support nobody had a definitive solution for me and was mainly told to live with it! One person from Applecare did half heartedly suggest trying a VGA connection instead in spite of lower quality. I went to the MAC store and they were confused as were the people at Best Buy but I reluctantly bought the MINI VIDEO PORT CABLE + VGA CABLE at Best Buy and to my surprise IT WORKED AND LOOKS PERFECT and automatically adjusts to fit any setting of computer resolution LIKE MAGIC. I have never posted but this seemed like good info as I read through a lot of blogs yesterday trying to resolve this issue. AGAIN THE SOLUTION IS TO TRY THE VGA CONNECTION. -chuck

  • Using DVI - HDMI cable output to Samsung LCD TV

For some reason, i have been using the DVI -> VGA Adapter with a VGA cable outputted to my new Samsung LCD TV, with resolution 1920x1080. I purchased a DVI -> HDMI Cable, but the quality/resolution is subpar to using the VGA Cable, it seems as if the resolution is upscaling itself, but according to Display Preferences, it is outputting at 1920x1080i, When i'm using the VGA cable it just says 1920x1080, without i or p.
    Anyone know why?

I've been trying to communicate with a Samsung LE40A656 via a DVI-HDMI cable.
I think there must be issues with HDMI on that model because the TV can't detect a signal on the HDMI port and the MPB can't see a monitor.
But I have managed to get full screen via the Apple DVI-VGA adaptor and the D-sub port on the Samsung using the specification in this archive thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6400626&#6400626
Before I upgraded my TV I had a cheap(ish) Hyundai Vuon with a DVI port which worked fine with my MBP.
Would still like to know why HDMI doesn't work on the Samsung.

  • Recently I bought a mini DVI to HDMI converter  from eBay for my iMac 21.5 Mid 2011, but only later I realised that it does not have the mini DVI port in that. How can I connect my iMac to a LG smart TV through a HDMI cable?

This is the picture of all the ports from my iMac
This is the mini DVI to HDMI converter which I bought from ebay. And I have the HDMI cable to connect it to my TV
Could anyone please suggest me a solution how I could connect my iMac to the LG smart TV? Also I need to know if this transmits the audio as well to the smart TV?
Suggestions are welcomed. I really appreciate and thank you for your time

I would suggest looking into a Thunderbolt to HDMI connector. In this case, you may be able to use the TV as an external monitor. For this option, please confirm through additional research. I have not tested it personally.
You can also use an Apple TV, which connects with HDMI. In this case, you can use Airplay Mirroring. Not all Macs support Airplay Mirroring, so you need to check first. I have a Mid-2011 27" iMac, and it supports Airplay Mirroring. I don't use it often because my TV is in another room, but I just tried it and it worked. It had to change the screen resolution to work well, so I don't know if I would want to use it as my day to day monitor. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5404

  • Mac book pro playing out audio through the HDMI but only in mono since update

    Hi there
I've got a mid 2010 macbook pro that used to play audio and video perfectly through the HDMI output until I updated to 10.7.4 and the
firmware (11E53). Now it plays in mono and only on the right speaker. It seems to have disabled the ability to change audio preferences on my AV receiver as well. Has any one else been getting similar problems ?
    Thanks

First, uninstall "SuperTV" (whatever that is) according to the developer's instructions. It isn't working and it's filling the log with noise.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
    Launch the Console application.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Post the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message. When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
PLEASE DO NOT INDISCRIMINATELY DUMP THOUSANDS OF LINES FROM THE LOG INTO A MESSAGE. If you do that, I will not respond.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Macbook to TV via DVI-HDMI cable - video delay

    Hello All,
I have my Macbook, on occasion, attached to my Samsung LCD via Apple's mini DVI to DVI adapter, plugged into a DVI to HDMI cable, which is attached to my TV. The audio is routed from the headphone jack on the Macbook to the associated Audio input on the TV.
Problem I'm having, is that the video seems delayed to the TV, by a matter of milliseconds. I've verified this by putting the Macbook in mirror mode, and I can visually see the changes in picture on the Macbook a few milliseconds before the TV displays them. Since the audio is perfect and real time, I'm looking at video on the TV that's out of sync with the audio, albeit by a few milliseconds.
I don't think the picture problem can be solved - it's most likely just the nature of the technology, as the signal can pass much faster to the internal display than an external, and the TV in general might be causing the delay as well. I've tried video game mode, and setting the TV as the primary display, and it does not help.
So now, what I'm looking for, is an application that I can launch when I want to use this setup that will delay the audio out of the headphone jack. If I can delay the audio at the same rate as the picture, than I'm all set.
Does anyone know of a program that can do this? Ideally, I'd love to have this program run when FrontRow is enabled.
Thanks for any help you can provide!

Good luck on finding a program that will delay the audio. Perhaps running the audio through an amp and then to your monitor would "slow" it down a trifle. Maybe the video "slows" down converting from DVI to HDMI?
Seems like a lot of trouble for a little gain.

    hi folks,
i have twinview going perfectly in arch and everything is dandy.  but i recently gave away the vga cable and got myself one of those DVI to HDMI cable and currently using it to connect the pc to the lcd tv that i have.  i can still get twinview going but, the problem is that i can only get a resolution of 1280x720 on the lcd tv, which is not the native resolution of 1360x768.  is there an option i can override or a workaround of some sort?  of will i just have to use those vga cable?

  • ATI 5770 1GB Video Card For Mac Pro dvi hdmi cable

I am sending video signal over a 50FT HDMI To DVI from my Mac Pro (3,1) via ATI 5770 1GB Video Card For Mac Pro (5.0 GT/s) (181062917108) and I cannot get a constant signal to my TV. The signal stays on for a few seconds or several hours or my TV (Samsung) says there is no signal or I get just a gray static screen.
I never had a problem before with my previous video card the 512MB nVidia GeForce 8800GT with a 25ft long cable. Any ideas people?

A cable of about 5 meters (16 ft) can be manufactured to Category 1 specifications easily and inexpensively by using 28 AWG (0.081 mm²) conductors.[114] With better quality construction and materials, including 24 AWG (0.205 mm²) conductors, an HDMI cable can reach lengths of up to 15 meters (49 ft).[114]
    from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI
You may need a higher-quality cable or a lower resolution for your display to make this work without an HDMI Repeater.

  • Cant hear audio using an hdmi cable from my MacBook Pro to an HDTV

i'm trying to watch video and streaming video from my McBook Pro on an HDTV via an HDMI cable.  i can see the video but there is no sound.  help?

What year was your Mac made, IE what Model year is it and what model is it?
With newer Macs all you need is a good Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter, I know the Griffin model work as I have one, and a HDMI cable.
If a Retina model that has a HDMI out port then you don't need any adapters of any kind. Just a cable from HDMI to HDMI ports on Mac and TV.
Once you have a good adapter, if you need one, and the cable is connected to the TV go into System Preferences and the Sound Applet and there should be an option in the Output section for HDMI. Enable that and the sound will be sent over the HDMI cable to the TV.
If you have an older Mac computer then you may need to use a separate cable from the Mac headphone out port to a Line In port on the TV

  • DVI/HDMI connection for Thinkpad R61 (with IBM 2504 Docking station) and Samsung LNT4665F LCD TV

I am trying to connect my laptop (Thinkpad R61) with my TV (Samsung LNT4665F) using a DVI/HDMI cable. Because the R61 doesn't have a DVI port, I am using it in the IBM 2504 Docking station. I have docked the computer, connected the DVI/HDMI cord (using HDMI in 1 on the TV, which I believe is the only DVI accepted HDMI on the TV). I followed the Samsung instructions to then hit "Fn-F7" on the laptop. Unfortunately, nothing is happening. It doesn't appear that any signal is pushing out to the TV.
I am not very tech savvy. Can someone please tell me what I need to do?

  • No Audio comes from my Elitebook 6930p when i connect it to the USB Docking Station

When ever i connect my Elitebook 6930p to the USB Docking Station, the Audio from my Laptop does not come.
The Audio works very well, without the USB Connected.
Looks like the Docking station is bringing the Audio out through its own ports, to be connected to the external speakers.
However i dont have any external speakers and would like the Audio to come out from the Laptop only.
The USB Docking station is : HPK HSTNN-S01X(B)
And my Elitebook is running on Windows XP.
Please suggest a way to do it.
    Cheers

Well, it sounds like your windows sets your audio output to your docking device?
Perhaps you should look from Sound options (in control panel) what playback device is being used when audio comes out right. Then dock it and see if it changes? if it changes, set default device back to what it was when it worked.
With this info i have i can't help you more. Hope it works.

  • Very bad audio quality through Thunderbolt/HDMI

The last year or so I had been using a Windows 7 laptop, connected to my HDTV as an extra display through an auxilary cable for the audio and a VGA for the video, then I plugged in another cable to the headphone socket on the TV which ran into my 2 channel stereoand the quality of the audio and video was always excellent. I recently got a MacBook Pro 13" (mid-2012), it's the best thing ever. I'm doing good with learning all the tips and tricks for Mac, but there is one problem I can't fix. I bought a Thunderbolt to HDMI cable, and plugged it into the MacBook to the TV, and the video is outstanding, but the audio is completely opposite. It is absolutely terrible. The mid frequencies sound alright-ish, but the high treble and bassy frequencies are just really, really bad.
Through headphones or even out the in-built speakers, everything sounds better.
I've tried it on multiple TV's so it not the TV, it must be something to do with the output settings or the cable.
I don't feel like buying another cable yet, so I want to see if anything else works first.
    Any ideas?

    CJBaily14,
I would think it is the cable or adapter, but things you can check into are system preferences>sound, output tab and make sure your TV is selected in the side bar. Another is Applications>utilities>Audio MIDI set up, open that and click the output tab, select HDMI from the side bar on the left and try changing the rates and see if that does anything. If this does it with other TV's and you were using the sme cable/adapter, especially if the HDMI cable is old it might not have the spec for audio as all HDMI cables are not created equal.
You could also try a PRAM reset, power down, power back up holding the following keys: COMMAND+OPTION+P+R  continue to hold these kys till you hear the start chime 2 times then release.
If you search the web for VESA specs you will find plenty of info. You can also check with Apple store for suff that is compatible.
