If your version of Windows is 64bit, there are no USB drivers for that version. You can only sync wirelessly.

  • Ford USB doesn't recognize iPhone anymore

While driving today using my iphone's iPod via USB on my 2009 Ford Escape the music stopped and I eventually restarted the phone. The car never recognized the iPod again. I went the the Apple store and eventually they replaced the phone. Even before I re-sync'd the phone the car would not recognized the iPod. The car's sync does recognized the phone via bluetooth so I am assuming it is a USB problem.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I have exactly the same problem with my Mariner 2009. After the problem (like 2 weeks ago) I tried to connect it with a JVC stereo, but couldn´t recignize the iphone either. I´m assuming the problem is not in the car stereo or cord, but in the Iphone. I reset it, but no change at all.

  • How to charge your Palm Centro via 64-bit Windows, with a USB cable

Here is a way to recharge your Palm Centro on your 64-bit Windows computer, through a USB cable.  But first, a few brief explanatory notes...
Note 1:  I have successfully used this method to charge my Palm Centro from my 64-bit Windows 7 computer.  This method probably works for other Palm devices and other 64-bit Windows versions (XP and Vist)...  but I haven't tested this on any other configurations.  Others may feel free to post their successes or failures with their setups.
Note 2:  This method will NOT allow you to HotSync your Palm to the computer via USB.  All it does is let you charge your Palm via USB.  If you need to HotSync your Palm, and you have 64-bit Windows, you have to use Bluetooth or some other method.  To learn how to use Bluetooth to sync, search for "bluetooth sync 64-bit" or something like that on this forum.
Note 3:  If you're wondering why someone would need to use this method - why not just plug the phone into a wall outlet, right? - it's because the Centro's charging jack can get messed up.  Mine has not worked properly for the last several months
Note 4:  I will not be posting any follow-ups to this message.  This is my first (and only) post here...  I'm posting here because I am very grateful to this forum: It is here that I learned how (and why) to sync my Centro to my computer via Bluetooth, because Palm doesn't support 64-bit Windows. This is my way of saying "thank you"!  I'm not trying to be harsh by not following up...  it's just that I won't be checking this thread, and I don't want anyone to have bad feelings if they ask questions and I don't respond.  I'll be as thorough as I can in this one posting, though.
Note 5:  I cannot claim credit for actually discovering this solution.  I found it after HOURS of looking online... it was on some obscure website.  Unfortunately, I can't remember where I found the original solution, so I can't credit the discoverer here.  However, I have done my best to provide much more detailed instructions here.
Note 6:  Lastly, Palm should support 64-bit Windows.  Period.  Some of you may say, "It's not Palm's fault - the company that makes the Palm OS is Access, and it's Access's fault for not supporting 64-bit Windows."  Well, this may be true, but Access has stated that Palm has not requested a 64-bit driver.  (In fact, you can call Access and ask them directly.)  And if Palm doesn't ask (and pay) for it, Access sure isn't going to create one on its own.  I used to LOVE Palm devices...  I've used Palms for 12 years now, and for most of that time, I heartily recommended Palms to all my friends.  But, between this problem and the other problems I've had with my current Centro and my previous Treo, I'm done with Palm.  No more for me.
OK, here's how to charge your Palm (finally!)
    1)  If you haven't done so already, install the latest version of Palm Desktop / HotSync on your computer.  You can get this at palm.com, under the "support" section.  (Actually, I'm not sure if this is necessary, but I already had done this.)
    2)  As you're installing the software on your computer, toward the end of the process, do not actually sync your Palm to your computer.  Just cancel or whatever you have to do to avoid that step.  (Remember, the whole point here is that Palm does not have a driver compatible with 64-bit Windows, so you won't be able to sync via USB.)
    3)  If you don't already have it, get the PocketTunes application (also known as "pTunes") on your Palm device.  If you have to install the software, you may need to do so wirelessly or via a 32-bit Windows computer (because, again, Palm doesn't support 64-bit Windows).
    4)  Connect the Palm USB cable to your computer.  If you are using a desktop, plug into the USB ports on the BACK of your computer.  These ports are directly powered, whereas the ports on the front of your desktop may not be.  You'll want as much juice as possible to charge your Palm.
    5)  Connect the Palm USB cable to your Palm.
    6)  Turn on the Palm device, and open the PocketTunes application on your Palm.
    7)  PocketTunes will try to connect to Windows Media Player (on your desktop).  Tell your desktop to connect to Windows Media Player.  (You can save time by telling your desktop to do this automatically.)  When PocketTunes connects with Windows Media Player, you'll have a power connection via USB.
    8)  PocketTunes will eventually show that it is "Idle" on the Palm.
    9)  To confirm whether the Palm is charging, look for the charging light (on the Centro, it's on the upper left) to turn solid red.  You can also hit the home button on the Palm to see the battery / charging status.  To get the charging working, you may have to exit PocketTunes and come back into it a few times before the charging light comes on.  I have no idea why you have to do this; I just know what I wind up doing sometimes.  You don't have to unplug and replug the phone from the USB cable, or turn the phone off and on.  Just leave PocketTunes and come back to PocketTunes.
    10)  If you exit the PocketTunes application on the Palm, the Palm will still charge - but you'll get the constant and annoying "no driver" noise from Windows.  To avoid that sound, just keep the Palm on PocketTunes while you have the Palm plugged into the USB cable.
    11)  You can close Windows Media Player on the desktop once you have the Palm charging.
    12)  Once you have this set up properly, you can speed up the process by setting the HotSync cable button to PocketTunes - after all, that button no longer needs to be set up to HotSync via USB cable.
When you have everything set up, here's what you would be doing on a regular basis:
-- Plug USB cable (which is already plugged into your computer) into Palm
-- Hit HotSync button on cable --> This starts PocketTunes --> PocketTunes automatically opens Windows Media Player on the computer
-- See if charging light turns solid red --> If not, exit PocketTunes, then hit HotSync button on cable to start PocketTunes again
-- Repeat until charging light turns solid red (success!)
-- Once the Palm is charging, close Windows Media Player on desktop
Best of luck to all who need this!

Why do you want to create your own driver instead of what comes with the device? If you go that route, you need all of the low level USB RAW protocol from the vendor. Did you get that? Yoe are wasting your time if you don't have that. Is the driver from the vendor documented? If it's a USB connection, how does that connection show up in windows device manager?

  • My iPhone 3G charges with a charger, but not when connected via USB to my computer and iTunes doesn't recognize it.

Hello, my iPhone charges when I charge it with the wall plug but not when connected to a computer via USB and my iTunes doesn't recognize my iPhone either. iTunes recognizes my iPod and iPad just fine. I have been to Apple iPhone support page and I have restarted my iPhone, the computer, tried different USB ports, etc. I have also tried my iPhone on different macs even with different versions of iTunes and no luck. This all started when I was cleaning out some lint from the usb connector, could I have damaged some part of the docking connection? But why does it charge with a wall plug then?

I fixed the problem. When I was trying to clean the connector of the iPhone I must have bent some pins. I have straightened them to the best of my ability and now it syncs. If your iPhone charges, but doesn't sync, most likely you have a similar problem, because the iPhone doesn't need all of its pins to charge, but it does need all of them to sync.

  • Macbook Pro 15" USB PORT DOESN'T RECOGNIZE ANY DEVICE.

I got my macbook pro 15" for about 1 year and 2 weeks ago, when I turned on my macbook and put my mouse ( Death Adder) into the USB PORT, my macbook DOESN'T RECOGNIZE IT. There are 2 usb ports on my macbook, I tried both port and there was only one port work correctly, the other one didn't work at all, I also tried to put my memory stick, external hard drive, vodafone 3g usb, ipod,....into that USB PORT but non of them worked. Is there any one here have the same problem???? Can you guy help me please. I stay quite far away from Apple Store so it is hard to bring it to repair. I tried to reset SMC, Update Software,...but still not work...HELP ME PLEASE...

I can't fault your troubleshooting. Sounds like a bad port.
Home remedies are limited. You can grab a magnifier and shine a flashlight in there. If you see any foreign material, use a toothpick or other non-conductive tool to extract it. If you can, give it a good blast of (dry, canned) compressed air to blow any particles loose.
Sometimes you can trick a flaky USB port into working at least intermittently by plugging in an extension cable or right-angle connector. Play with a device that lights up so it's easy to see whether it's working.
Take a hard look inside the connectors at the end of your Death Adder and other frequently-used devices. If you see any corrosion or bent pins, that's what damaged your USB port.
If the port requires physical repair, it's best to use Apple or an authorized dealer because if they make things worse while trying to fix it, they have to make it right. Joe's Appliance isn't similarly accountable.
If you need more USB ports, ExpressCard to USB adapters are dirt cheap.
    Good luck.

Since I upgraded to Yosemite, my Macbook Pro doesn't recognize my Flip Mino camera in the USB port.

    consider the following ideas.
    If neither restarting your Mac

  • Mac Pro doesn't recognize USB 3.0 PCI express card

Mac Pro doesn't recognize USB 3.0 PCI express card.  Does it need specific drivers?

I did a little searching for that card.  The more I looked at it the more I felt that, yes, it needs a driver, and no, one doesn't exist for the Mac.  So it looks like that is a card only supported for PC's. But to be sure, if I were in your place at this point, I would contact MSI directly.

  • Trying to update firmware on my canon printer MG5320 but in doesn't recognize the printer being plugged in via USB cable

I am trying to update firmware on my canon printer MG5320 to be able to use the airprint feature but in doesn't recognize the printer being plugged in via USB cable. I have tried restarting the macbook, turning on and off the printer, repairing permissions, deleting and redownloading the update what else can I do? The prinyrt works fine otherwise...

If there are no drivers for Yosemite you might be in trouble.. HP will tend not to support printers once they are EOL.
Getting it running over wireless rather than USB might be worthwhile.
Can’t connect wirelessly HP Photosmart C4780 to MacBook Pro OSX 10.8.2 Mountain Lion.
Has the printer been working and now failed after update.. what update caused the failure if that is the problem??

  • Usb not detected - palm centro

I recently purchased a Palm Centro.  The software was installed successfully and the Centro was able to Sync with the computer, however, I am unable to download music.  Windows Media Player (and my computer's Device Manager) does not seem to detect the device.  I connected my mp3 player to the computer, and it was immediately detected by Window Media Player.  I'm just wondering if it's the cable that's defective or the user.  Am I doing something wrong?

And you have no problems hotsyncing??? Well there are two things it could be either windows media player can't recognize the device properly or the conduit on the device is having a hard time recognizing windows media player. So you have two things you can consider either hard reset the device and test syncing to windows media player without syncing anything else back to the phone or try uninstalling/reinstalling windows media player.

  • Palm Centro will not charge via USB or wall charger

My Palm Centro has been having issues with the charger port for a while, now.   I found a few posts on this board instructing me on how to trickle charge through the USB adapter, but when I try the methods these people are using, my phone still will not charge.  I don't have insurance on my device currently (I had to have the ruddy thing replaced so many times they cancelled it), so I have to figure something out soon.  It appears as if the device is not being recognized by computer, even when I try to HotSync.  The HotSync never goes through.  Any suggestions?

Yes, every original iPhone is out of warranty at this point. It is going on 4 years now.
Has the iPhone been exposed to moisture? You can check to see if the sensor at the end of the headphone jack is red or not. Moisture could expand the issue and lead to hardware failures. Could also be a faulty or loose communication cable as the home button and dock connector use the same cable inside the iPhone to connect to the logic board.
Assuming it is a hardware issue you could try third party repair centers that are local or see if apple has an out of warranty replacement program still operating for the original iPhone. Since it is rather old I don't think there is much apple can do. Try a third party repair center or look for a new to you used iPhone.

  • Palm Centro (OS 5.4.9) not connecting to ActiveSync 4.5 via USB

A friend of mine has a Palm Centro (OS 5.4.9) from Verizon. She uses this device to sync to Lotus Notes 8.0. This requires her to have the following software applications installed on her Windows XP pro-desktop computer.
    1) Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5
    2) Palm Desktop/Hotsync 6.5
    3) Mnotes 4.1.4
When she plugs her Centro into an USB port--Hotsync has no problems detecting the device. However, ActiveSync cannot detect the device. Some of the things I tried to fix the problem.
    1) Soft & hard reset on the Centro
    2) Remove & reinstall ActiveSync 4.5
    3) Try every USB port on the computer
If you have any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise I told my friend to turn in her Centro and move to a Blackberry. They are far easier to sync with Lotus Notes 8.0 email.
    Thank-you !
    Post relates to: Centro (Verizon)

I also have a Centro from Verizon and am synching with Lotus Notes.  I am using the Palm Desktop (latest release 6.2 from Palm website) and Lotus EasySync v4.2.6 ( http://www-01.ibm.com/software/lotus/products/easysyncpro/ ).  In additon to synching with Lotus Notes I am also synching with my personal emal from comcast.  I am able to synch with my calendar and contacts with no problem.  However, I am not able to synch with my mail account because I am using the Versa Mail application to get my personal email form Comcast and there  is a known conflict between VersaMail and EasySync (Versa is controling the mail conduit so EasySync can not synch mail).  If your friend does not need to access a personal mail account like I do they should be able to get full synch with EasySync, if they are using VersaMail they should be able to get calendar and contact with no problem.  Another optin would be to subscribe to Verizon's premium data service ($49.99 for me) and access personal email through Verizon Wireless Synch and then use EasySync Pro to synch wiht Notes.  i hav e not tried this optio, but based on my conversations with support from Verizon, Palm and IBM this souds like it should work, personally I am not willing to pay the price for the premium service.
If you need additonal information on my setup replay to this thread and I will be happy to give more details
    Hope this helps

    3.4 GHz i7
    16 GB RAM
    Keyboard: Apple extended USB
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Mine works okay.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

  • Why doesn't my MacBook Pro doesn't recognize my cameras or iPhone when I plug those in at a USB-port?

Even installing the Nikonsoftware of my camera didn't work. I've no problem connecting those equipments to my netbook with windows, but my Mac doesn't recognize either of them.

Check to see if the Mac sees them at all by opening the utility "/Applications/Utilities/System Information"
Then select "Hardware > USB" (on the left).  You can refresh the view by selecting the menu item "File > Refresh Information" or typing <CMD>+R.
Your should be able to see the devices in this list which will confirm hardware works-- USB ports are good, cables etc.  If you have installed the software try restarting.  Also try OTHER usb ports on the notebook.
After that try re-installing the drivers AFTER you make certain they are released for your version of the OS.
