Usb drawing to much power error

i am getting an error that saysBecause a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled. its when i plug my iphone in any ideas on why? and wha t I can do about it?

I started having the exact same problem several days ago, and it got so that every time I plugged in my iPhone 5 to charge or sync I got that message. Tonite it started happening even if the phone was not attached to the cord, so I suspected the USB cord. I happened to have a brand new (in box) cord with me--voila! --problem resolved.
So in my case, anyway, it was definitely the cord. I've had Apple cords die on me in the past, which is why I had the spare with me--so before doing anything else, I would suggest trying a new (or even someone else's) cord.

I keep getting 'USB port is drawing too much power error'

I have an old 2010 13" MacBook Pro. Just tonight, it started giving me a 'USB port is drawing too much power' error. The only thing I had plugged in to my MacBook was my iPhone cable (without the phone) and an Intuos tablet I recently bought. At first I thought it was the tablet, because the tablet started acting wonky after that error message (it worked just fine earlier in the day).
After restarting, the tablet works with no problem so I thought the problem must be the iPhone cable. The thing is, I read in some other forum that a cable not plugged to the iPhone shouldn't draw power, and they said if it does then it's a sign for a short circuit. My iPhone cable is a little bit worse for wear, to be honest.
So my question is: Is the problem my cable and if it is is it dangerous if I use this cable to charge my phone with a USB wall charger? 2nd, Is there anyway to fix this other than buying a new iPhone cable?

Thats a warning. if you continually get that warning with the iphone cable and you keep using it. You could eventually disable that USB port.

MacBook pro 13" mid 2010 "USB drawing too much power" HELP

Hi, my MacBook Pro keeps coming up with a window about 30 after start up saying "USB drawing too much power" and none if the USB ports work neither does the iSight camera (green light is constantly on) and the headphone jack won't work! I have tried re installing OSX but it hasn't worked! Apart from an SMC reset and a PRAM what else can I try? Absolutely nothing is plugged in not a single cable or keyboard or mouse just my MacBook on its own, is it definitely a software problem or am I going to have to get apple to repair the hardware because I do not have that much money to replace a logic board and get apple to replace it themselves. USB device drawing too much power error message

When I try to plug my iPod into my computer to charge or update my music, I get an error message that says, " Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled." I've tried this while my computer was plugged in and not plugged in and it still gives me the same message. My computer is completely new, I've only had it about 2 weeks, my iPod is about 3 years old, but the actual iPod works great. It's just the USB cord that is giving me a problem. What is wrong and how can I fix it?

My only option is to click "ok." It has already ejected the USB connection, so I don't really have any other choice. Here is the complete text of the message:
"Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled
To prevent damaging your computer, the USB device drawing too much power has been disabled. Other devices may have also been disabled. When you disconnect the device drawing too much power, your other USB devices will be enabled again."

Constant error message: USB drawing too much power - no USB plugged in for weeks?

Starting about two days ago, I've been getting error messages about every 30 seconds saying that a usb device is drawing too much power, and my usb device has been disabled. I haven't had anything plugged into the usb ports for about 3 weeks, well before I started getting this error message. At first the error messages came up one at a time, but now about 5 of them pop up every 30 seconds..
There seems to be no visible damage to either of the usb ports, and I've updated software and restarted it too. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on?

when i plug in my "lightning cord" i get an error message that goes a lil somethin like this:

"USB draws too much power" from GoPro camera?

My GoPro camera battery doesn't seem to charge right or something because when I charged it tonight, it seemed to be over heating. This is a brand new camera and one of the first time I tried charging the battery.
When I checked my computer it came up with the error:
"Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your usb devices have been disabled"
I tried a different cable, that didn't work. Reset the SMC. That didn't work. Reset the PRAM. That didn't work. Tried to plug in my iPod to see if that works, it works fine. It refuses to connect via USB to my GoPro camera
I'm thinking of reinstalling OSX 10.6.8
I have a black Macbook, 2.4ghz intel core 2 duo.
Anyone else have any ideas of what to do??

Which GoPro Hero Camera?
I use both my GoPro Hero 2 cameras with the same MacBook and have no problems.
Try charging the camera batteries before you connect to the MacBook.
I am interested to see if that works for you.

Why do I get usb draws too much power with GoPro Hero?

I just bought a GoPro Hero 3 Black and it works fine. First time I connected to a USB port it worked jsut fine. Later, when I tried to connect it again, I got a message that the USB port is drawing too much power. I tried a diferent port and it gave same mesage. Disconnected, tried again and it worked fine.
I'm wondering if it's a matter of the camera battery drawing too much power when charging? E.g. first time connected it was fully charged. I haven't tried it yet again with a full charge.
Any ideas?

IMac 21.5 OS 10.8.4 usb drawing to much power and shuts down and restarts

Hi, I have a external hard drive. Every 1/2 hr-1hr I get a message telling me the it's shutting down to protect my computer. Then it comes right back.
The problem is I lose whatever I'm working on. I am using a powered USB hub and I have 16 GB memory. I just have the 2 drives. On the PC in my bedroom I have 4 drives ,a non powered USB hub and no problems. So I don't know how much more I can do. Help John

This is why I don't like bus powered devices, especially hard drives that are bus powered. Bus powered hard drives, IMO, simply eat up to much of the available power available on the USB bus, period.
I prefer my main storage peripherals to have have their own power supply.
Your USB hub maybe powered, but your bus powered hard drives may still be drawing to much power and putting a strain by having the hub having to pull more power from the Mac's USB bus in additon to to it's own power.
Why are you using a USB Hub?
What other power drawing devices do have hooked up the USB ports on your iMac. These maybe drawing a lot of power, as well.

2011 Macbook Pro suddenly says no space available on start-up disk (plenty available) and USB drawing too much power (only charging phone). What's going on with my computer? No longer able to charge my iPhone 5.

Two days ago I was using my computer, a 2011 Macbook Pro, and suddenly got the error message reading "Your Mac OS X startup disk has no more space available for application memory. To avoid problems with your computer, quit any applications you are not using. Closing windows and removing files from your startup disk will also help."
I was only using Google Chrome, nothing was running in the background, and I have 443 of 449.25 GB available (this is after clean-up I conducted after receiving the error message, but probably cleaned up less than 25 GB), so there should be no shortage of space. However, the message kept popping up and I deleted a few files and eventually it went away and hasn't reappeared.
However, last night and then again this morning I have been getting the error message that my USB drive is pulling too much power and has been disable. All that was plugged in was my iPhone 5 on the charger and my computer is also on its charger, so I don't know why this would be an issue, either. I have always charged my phone this way and never had a problem until today.
I haven't been able to charge my phone since. What's going on with my computer?

Regarding the USB, see if zapping the PRAM helps.

My USB is dead after msg "USB drive draw too much power"...

I connected a digital desktop photo thing to my macbook through USB intending to transfer pics to that device; however, my macbook popped out a msg something like, "USB drive draw too much power..." then the Macbook shut down suddenly by it self. After I restart Macbook, my USB is completed dead... how can I revive it?
I tried plugging in wireless mouse or ipod ... USB has no reaction. Thank you for your help or input in advance!!

Same thing just happened to my Mini, my wife successfully used a SanDisk Micromate adapter to download photos, but when she tried to plug in her iPhone4 the dreaded USB drawing too much power ports will be shutdown msg appeared. I can plug in the phone on my other Mac no problem, so its the Mini's usb ports. Help anyone? SMC reset did not work.

I am getting this error since recently when I am using my MBP:
"Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer..."
The 'funny' thing: there is no USB device attached to the computer (only power and monitor cables).
Why is this happening and what could I do about it?

Sometimes you have to reset the SMC two or three times for it to work, don't know why. I've seen that error message before and 100% of the time it was fixed with an SMC reset. I suppose it's possible that your keyboard or mouse IS drawing too much power, do you have access to another you could try?
