USB drive encrypted w/FileVault2 on MBA can't be read on MBP

I encrypted an external USB drive on my Macbook Air that had existing data using the internal encryption, and that works fine. I can unmount and remount, and it requires the password as expected. However, it won't mount on my Macbook Pro, even though they are at the same OS level, 10.8.2. When I mount the drive on my MBP, it won't accept the password.
Any ideas of what the issue might be?
Thanks.

  • USB drive encryption in MBAM

    Hello ALl,
Does MBAM 2.0 has the capability to encrypt the USB drives (USB sticks). If  yes can it be configured via Group Policy?
    Thanks HA

USB keys must still be encrypted with traditional Bitlocker options (Windows 7 tools). MBAM client does not control USB drivers encryption process, but it will escrow the recovery key to DB fine. This is one of the missing parts in MBAM 2.5 and older versions.
I wrote even a feedback to MS about this at some time :)

  • USB Drive Connected to Airport Extreme:  I can see, but can't access

Connected one printer and two USB hard drives through USB hub to Extreme. Printer works ok. Both Drives are visible in Finder, but won't show files. Tried to copy files through Finder to each USB drive and got an "Error Code 8058". Tested each drive directly to Mac and worked fine, so it's not a drive compatibility problem. Thoughts on what may be wrong?

Tried what you suggested last night - no change. What is odd, though, is that I can create a new folder on the external USB HDD (through the Hub) and copy a file into it. While I can then close Finder, re-open and see the Folder and file I copied, I still can't see all the data that is currently stored on the drive...Is this a delete and re-copy scenario?
    Thanks!

  • My 4th Gen iPod can't be recognized and Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is not there. What can I do?

I believe I recently got water in my charging dock and I couldn't charge my iPod Touch 4th Gen. I got the "Charging is not supported with this device" message whenever I plugged in my iPod. Me, not know what to do messed around and got everything out of order. I reinstalled everything, restarted the device manager applications and still nothing. I was wondering if I could do anything before I try and just go to an Apple Store for support. Literally everytime I plug my iPod in, it feels as if i plugged in nothing. Nothing is recognized. What can I do?

Start here and do not use the dock.  Just use a cable between the iPod and the USB port on the computer.

How can I transfer music from an USB drive to the iPod. I can see the music and play it on the computer, but the iPod tells me to use iTunes to sync. The music is not on iTunes. It has worked in the past.....tks

These are just playlists. The songs there are really not duplicates of the songs. They are just a different location for accessing them. Some playlists can be deleted, some cannot. Ones that are created by iTunes cannot be deleted. Ones that you create can be. The Recently Added and the 90's cannot.

  • Can't eject USB drive

    Hi,
This is driving me crazy. Every time I used a USB drive, I am told that it can't be ejected because a program is using it. Sometimes it says the finder is using it (it shouldn't be: if the finder is using it it is only listing it as a drive). Relaunching the finder using "force quit" doesn't help: it just changes the message to "one or more programs may be using it". Shutting down every single program - none of which are using it anyway - doesn't help. I eventually get a force eject option, which I use, though that comes with a warning that force eject may damage files.
Any help appreciated. Running Yosemite on a late 2010 Air (though I get the same problem on my 2011 Macbook pro).
    Thx.

I've been seeing the same problem (and reported it as a bug) with a number of applications (though not the Finder). When a file is in use it is flagged by the system Yosemite seems to either not change the file's flag to not in use or the system isn't getting that the flag has changed. So far exiting the program has solved it for me in every instance - though it is a pain. I think for now it is something we'll just have to live with until Apple tracks it down.

  • Can't see content of Airport USB drive.

    Just got my MacBook Air.
I have set up a USB drive on my AEBS, which I can access just fine via my old MacBook.
On my new MB Air, I can see the base station in the finder side bar. When selected I can see the name of the drive. When selected, I cannot see any files or folders on that drive. I can't read or write.
How should I set up the MB Air to allow full access to the Airport USB drive?
    -Ron.

I'm having the same issues. Random folders throughout the server are not displaying their content. I can see the contents of these folders in Tiger, just not leopard.
I'm connecting to a Windows 2003 Server with Service Pack 2 using SMB, not AFP like Taliesin above.

  • Obscure Nano and Mini XP USB Driver Problem Finally Solved

I had a rather obscure USB driver registry problem that few others would probably have, but this might be helpful.
I was unable to get Windows XP SP2 Media Center Edition to properly recognize either my iPod Mini or Nano 3rd generation. The iPods would be seen by XP in Device Manager (would show Apple iPod USB Driver) when connected, but would immediately disconnect. The Apple iPod USB Driver properties would then show “This device cannot start (Code 10).”
I first tried all the Apple-recommended fixes: the five Rs; reinstalling the Apple iPod USB driver; disconnecting all other USB devices; switching USB plug-in points; putting the iPod into Drive Mode; and all the other things shown in the troubleshooting guide “iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes,” http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
None of the above worked. And on occasion after uninstalling and reinstalling the iPod USB driver, I would get a blue screen with the error message “driverirql_not_less_orequal,” sometimes followed by stop codes and something called “USBPORT.SYS.”
Apple phone support was unable to help, claiming that XP Media Center Edition was not supported, though the problem appeared to have no relation to MCE versus Home or Pro.
Then I finally stumbled onto the solution. I previously had installed a USB drive encryption program (NTINinja) on my computer. Although I had uninstalled the program months earlier, it had left a registry entry which was interfering with the iPods. When I deleted the registry entry, the problem was solved.
Those of you having similar recognition problems as described above might check Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, Universal Serial Bus Controllers, USB Root Hub, Properties, Details, then select Class Lower Filters in the drop-down box. If there is an entry, that might be the problem.
To get rid of the entry, first write down what it is. Then go to Start, Run, Regedit. Backup the registry (File, Export). Then go to Edit, Find, and type in the suspect entry. It should find the registry key containing the entry in HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\.
Right click on the LowerFilters key and select Modify. Then delete the suspect entry. Close the registry editor. You might have to reboot – can’t remember.
I can’t guarantee the above is completely accurate, but it may help someone.

OK now! Dag, I was going crazy. I had two brand new Raptors and was trying to hook them up in a RAID 0 config. I am no dummy. It would hang at detecting arrays. I could not figure it out for the life of me. I will not talk about all of the combos that I tried. My buddy told me to try datalifeguard from WD. I did. Well, one HD showed no serial number in the extended test. An error message popped up. Said the drive was not working. So, Newegg sends me a dead drive and wastes days and days out of my life. I hooked up the one good drive just now. What do I see? For the first time in my life, I am seeing the raid bios! This almost cost me a divorce. Seriously though, the wife would come in and rub my shoulders like a fighter after a few hours of getting my azz whipped by this new rig. I am now going to make the floppy with the newer drivers like was done here. Just incase. I am in Raid bios now in the other room. Time to go set up XP on one drive for now. I refuse to wait for the RMA'ed second Raptor.

  • My usb drive won't connect to my macbook anymore.

    It says:
MAC OS X can't repair the disk:
you can still open or copy files on the disk, but you can't save changes to files on the disk. Back up the disk and reformat it as soon as you can.
    How would i go about?

Follow the second part of the advice your Mac gave you. Since you can still copy files, I would advise you to back up the data on it and put the data onto something else, maybe another USB drive or external hard drive. Data storage is quite cheap.
To back up your data, buy a new USB drive that's the same size (or larger) than the one you've got at the moment. Then just plug the old USB drive and the new USB drive in (If you have 2 USB drives) and copy the files over by dragging them.

    Might try this...
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop for now...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • ITunes doesn't recognize iPhone and Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is missing

Hi. iTunes does not recognize my iPhone when I connect it to my PC via USB. I found iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows and went through the listed steps to diagnose the problem. The problem seems to be the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver. It is not listed in Device Manager and it does not seem to be installed on my PC. I followed directions for "If the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is not listed" and I was not able to find anything. In that case there are no further steps that you can take listed on iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes. I then uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and other software components (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923) three times but each time Apple Mobile Device USB Drive was missing. If anyone can advise me I would greatly appreciate it.

  • Accessing file on USB Drive

I have a requirement that my Air application accesses a file (SQL Lite) that resides on a USB drive.  Is there a way I can resolve the path to a USB drive at runtime?  Since I can't be sure what drive letter the USB device is mapped to (this will be distributed to a couple hundred users),  is there a way to detect this?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

  • How to access USB drive on e4200 remotely

    Hello,
I recently bought a e4200 v2 and installed connect cloud. I have attached a USB drive to the router. I can connect to it by mapping a network drive on my windows 7 laptop. I can also access it as a media server through my iPad on the local wifi network. This way I can play the music on the USB drive through the iPad. The next thing I would like to accomplish is to be able to listen to the music on the USB drive through the internet (so remotely). Is that even possible?
    Regards and thanks,
    Steven

Hi there. That is actually possible. When you open your CCC go to USB Storage and set Enable FTP Server to ON. It is important as well to have a public internet ip address on the router which means coming from your internet service provider. For other cases, it is static so that it will not change. Are you by the way on Cable internet or DSL internet service? If you are example on DSL internet and your internet ip address from your ISP is private (192.168.1.4) then remotely accessing anything from your router is not possible you have to set the dsl modem to full bridge in order for it to work. To verify your internet ip address using CCC, go to Connectivity on the side panel and it comes up with a page and click on Internet Settings up on top.   And say you wish to access the music files on your windows 7 laptop remotely, you have to set a static ip address to that computer and forward port 21 (default for ftp) on the router. Usually the address that you will type in on the address bar on your remote device is ftp://publicwanip. By the way, you may refer to the links below I found from Cisco's public kb site.

  • Is there a REAL method to create the initial data replica TO A USB DRIVE for DPM 2012?

I've got several remote office locations with file servers containing a good amount of data, but they have very poor (3Mbps) WAN connections.
I've been tasked to set up DPM to back up these locations.  Due to the size of the data and the lack of bandwidth, I'm going to need to get the techs out there
to copy the data portions of the servers onto USB drives and send them to me so I can import them into the DPM storage here.
But I’m having some problems finding the document that instructs a tech
how to copy the initial data replica to a USB drive, then docs on how I can import this data.
    I have found this:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj642916.aspxbut
it talks about server-to-server copying, which previously mentioned is not something we can
not do due to bandwidth issues.  We need to copy to USB drive, then ship the drive to me for import into DPM.
There’s some mention of doing this to tape (then importing to DPM) as well, but I can’t find more details either… it’s sort of weird, like the documentation or help
files on TechNet are incomplete.  Like take a look at this link http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh757818.aspx-- it’s
    pretty useless!
Has anyone done this yet?  Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

YES - we do this all the time.  In fact we never do the initial replica creation over the WAN.
Let's say you want to protect the entire D: drive of your server.  Attach the USB drive to the server and use robocopy to copy everything to the USB drive.  Something like (assuming the USB drive is E:) --
    robocopy D:\ E:\ /b /e /r:0
You don't have to worry about copying permissions and all that stuff to the USB drive. DPM will take care of that during the initial consistency check and will make sure the DPM replica is an exact copy.  (If you DO want to make sure the USB copy has
the same permissions, add the /copyall switch to the robocopy command.)
On the DPM server, set up protection for that server's D: drive and make sure you choose the option to do the initial replica creation MANUALLY.  Once protection has been set up, you basically use robocopy again to transfer data from the USB drive to
the replica path on the DPM server.
You can find the replica path on the DPM server by going to the "Protection" area of the console and selecting the protected member of your file server (like the D: drive in the above example).  In the bottom pane there will be a "Replica Path" line
with a hyperlink that says "Click to view details".  Click that and a dialog will open. You can copy the path to the clipboard.  The path will be something like this:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft DPM\DPM\Volumes\Replica\File System\vol_7a200c36-19b0-4f92-b05b-16458180f0fa\f1295bef-8329-46a4-9761-85e82017603d\Full
Just use a similar robocopy command to copy everything to the replica path.  Make sure you put quotes around the replica path destination since there are spaces in it.  Once robocopy is complete, you initiate a consistency check in the DPM console.
That's all there is to it...
