USB drives compatible with MAC and Win

Can anyone help me out. I need to encrypt my USB drive but such that it can be decrypted by both my Mac and a Windows machine.
1) If I encrypt the USB drive using the MAC to create an encrypted disk image, will the Windows machine be able to access this disk image?
2) Is there a decent USB drive on the market with encryption software compatible with both Mac and Windows machines?
Thanks for any help (and excuse my Mac ignorance !)

I have the same issue and ended up damaging my USB when Sandisk tried to format it so it can be used for MAC. Its very frustrating that all these big companies can't make MAC compatible software. What's more frustrating is that they advertise their product saying it works with WINDOWS n MAC but when you go check out the encryption software then its only windows compatible.

  • External Hard Drive Compatible with Mac and Windows?

So my old laptop is a Dell Latitude and I bought a Western Digital external hard drive and put all my files/pics/music on it. The information the WD came with said its compatible with Mac and Windows, but when I plug it into my brand spankin new Macbook, it doesn't register with the computer and won't show up. What's going on?

I recently ran into that problem. In order to have the hard drive compatible for both PC and Mac it must be in a FAT32 format. In order to do this though all your files will be deleted (in order to reformat). You can do this by plugging in the hard drive into you mac and going under disk utility and there you will find your hard drive and under erase change the format to FAT32 and then you press erase (all will be deleted off the external drive though)

  • How to format flash drive to be compatible with Mac and PC

Hey guys, I was stupid and formatted my 8G flash drive to a different format by accident. Not FAT32 which it was originally. It originally worked find with my Mac and PC. I can't get it back now. I went into Disk Utility and the only way I can format it back is to MS-DOS(FAT) and all the other Apple formats. When I erase it to MS-DOS(FAT) and plug it into my PC it comes up and wants to format it to a 200MB FAT32 patition?? How can I solve this? Thanks

    Hi,
FAT32 (called MS-DOS in OSX Disk Utility) is the file system to use for compatibility with Mac and PC.
The "200MB partition" message you get also indicates that you changed the partition scheme on the flash drive to GPT (GUID Partition Table).
Use Disk Utility to verify this and if needed change the partition scheme back to MBR (Master Boot Record).

  • Hard Drive Compatible for Mac And Windows

This is a strange problem, and I cannot find a solution.
I just built a PC with a 300gb drive for just installing programs. I also bought a 500gb internal for storage of music, movies, pictures.
I want the 500gb to be able to be accessed over the network by my Macbook. I know that I need to format the drive to FAT32 so it can be read by both my mac and my PC, but Windows XP does not give me an option to format it into FAT32.
I have partition magic and it does not give me the FAT32 option either. What should I do. My goal is to use this drive as network storage and it will be my iTunes and iPhoto library for my macbook.
    Thanks for your help.
    Jake

If you are going to access the drive over a network you can go ahead and format NTFS as the Mac will never access the drive directly. OS X supports the SMB protocol used by Windows XP for network access, so any Win XP format will work.

  • External hard drive compatible with mac

I recently purchased a Lacie external hd (the porsche design P´9220). Had some initial trouble with getting it up and running, had to switch primary partition hd to actually get the 1 TB storage amount. I did this on a pc in computer management, because I couldn´t figure out how to do this on my mac. Anyway, when I swiched the primary partition hard drive to the right one, I only had two options for formating, either NTFS or exFAT. I thought exFAT would work on mac, but turns out it doesn´t.. Is there any way I can format this hd to fat/ fat32 either on mac or pc?? The whole point of buying this hd was that I thought it would be compatible with BOTH mac and pc at the same time..
Any help will be appreciated, thanks!

    Nah:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to two and size them to your preferences. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you created for Windows use, click on the Erase tab in the DU main window. Set the Format Type to MSDOS then click on the Erase button.

  • Is the JVC SR-DVM700 compatible with Macs and Final Cut Studio HD?

    Hello all.
The company I work for is seriously thinking about purchasing the JVC SR-DVM700 next week (based on my recommendations). What I have discovered however is that there are very little user reviews and even less info on whether it is compatible with Final Cut Studio HD. Everything I have found 'seems' to indicate that it will work but I need a definite answer. The lack of user info makes me a little nervous.
    Here are my questions:
If this system is incompatible, what would be a good alternative within the same price range?
What (if any), are the problems that crop up while using it and are they easily fixed?
What are your general thoughts on the system?
I really like the idea of a MiniDV, DVD and hard drive all in one machine but I need more info in case I need to put the brakes on this purchase.
    Thanks for all your help.
Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   1.5 GB DDR SDRAM (working on getting more)

This is a FCP HD, but no Final Cut Studio HD
My guess is that you are trying to run FCP 4.5 HD on an Intel Mac.
It isn't reliable even if you could install it.
You need FCS2 -- at the upgrade price.

  • Help: A bluray drive compatible with MAc Pro 1.1 2006 2007

    Hi,
Seems my factory bundled Pioneer dvd drive is bad and I need a compatible bluray drive now.
I have read that there are some issues with some models of  Pioneer and LG drives.
I tried to install older LG DVD drives I had here and they just kept ejecting dvd discs.
However, they were able to burn cd-Rs.
I was advised to search for Pioneer Bdr-208dbk
    and LG WH14NS40MP  .
Here in Brazil we have similar names, maybe they are adapted for our country market.
I am using Toast 10 with OS 10.6.8.
    MAc Pro 2.66 8GB RAM.
    Any help is greatly welcomed!
    Thanks in advance!

  • Is the camcorder JVC GZ-EX210 compatible with mac and imovie?

Is the camcorder JVC GZ-EX210 compatible with iMovie?

I should add, my answer above is for "intermediate" or editing codecs. These are high quality codecs that preserve as much quality as possible in the editing process. Once you have finished editing, you would convert (or compress) to a delivery codec. THe intermediate codecs are too large to stream over the internet, or to play on your iphone, so you would convert.
The best codec for this purpose is h.264, which provides a really good quality at a relatively low data rate, This means good quality with a relatively small file.
h,264 is a subset of the MPEG4 standard.
A h.264 movie can live in a MOV container, an MP4 container, a M4V container, and perhaps others, like AVI.
By default, iMovie creates h.264 files in the m4v container for LARGE and smaller. For 720P and 1080P. it creates h.264 in a MV container.
You can tweek the defaults by SHARE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME

  • Will Quicktime Pro convert files compatible with Mac and Windows?

I'm trying to decide if I should upgrate to Pro 7.
I created a screen capture tutorial in Snaps Pro X which outputs a .mov file. Now I need to convert it to a cross platform version. Is that MPEG? I see that QT Pro 7 exports to MPEG-4. Is that compatible with at least XP?
Also can I do screen capture videos right in QT Pro 7?
    Thanks,
    Steven

QuickTime Pro can't capture your screen.
Your SnapZ Pro .mov file should be compatible (depending the your choice of codecs) with any machine that has QuickTime installed.

  • Is 250GB External USB Hard Drive compatible with Mac OSX on an iBook G4?

    Hello,
I just bought a Toshiba 250GB External Usb Hard Drive because the seller recommended it to telling me that it works in my computer iBook G4 Mac OSX.
I prepared it and I see it on my desktop with a folder named System Volume Information and 2.32 GB available.
I tried to copy a file and I received a message telling that the disc can't be modified.
Where can I find the instructions to initialize it if it is compatible?
    Thanks in advance,
    Joan

  • Looking for USB Hub compatible with Mac Pro 8 Core (early 2008)!

I need a good, reliable USB Hub. I was looking at a D-Link with 7 ports but I read a review on Amazon saying it didn't work well with 8 core Mac Pro. The reviewer said the Mac only recognized some of the time upon start up and he had to unplug and replug to get it going.
Not sure if this was user error or faulty product.
Anyone have any experience with a good reliable 7 port USB Hub? Perhaps even with this D-Link?
    Thanks!
    Zap

There are also reports (see http://www.hardmac.com today) of over loading USB ports on Mac Pro... even if you only use the available ports and hubs (like Cinema Display which should be getting its own power, but does not).
I would strongly recommend a PCIe controller first.

  • ATA Drives compatible with Mac Pro?

    Hello folks,
I currently have a Power Mac G4, with 2 200gig ATA internal Hard Drives. One is a Barracuda ST3200822A, and the other is a Western Digital WDC WD1600JB-00REA0.
Am I correct in assuming, from scanning these discussions, that these two drives are NOT usable in the new Mac Pro. Under the System Profiler they are listed under ATA not Serial-ATA.
    Thanks very much
