USB Ethernet adapters?

Hi
Is there any USB ethernet adapters i can get to plug in my ethernet cable to, so i can connect to my local netwrok as there is something wrong with my ethernet card??
If so can someone tell me the name and model number?

No internal PCI slots, so that is out. However, there is IP over FireWire which might be possible to network off another FW based Mac.

Using modbus/TCP with USB ethernet adapters

I have a test stand where I have a handful of USB instruments and a single modbus/TCP slave. I'm considering adding a USB ethernet adapter to the stand so that there is a single USB cable connecting the computer to the hardware rather than both a USB and an ethernet connection. Does anybody out there have experience (good or bad) using USB ethernet adapters with modbus/TCP slaves?
The existing USB instruments all use ASCII/SCPI-style command sets. The Modbus/TCP slave is an Automation Direct EBC-100. Nothing high-bandwidth or low-latency. Basically, the computer issues no more than a handful or command or request (ether SCPI or Modbus/TCP) per minute.

The test software is written in LabVIEW, and the test stand uses M-Series cards for data acquisition.

Sharing internet with 2 USB ethernet adapters?

Is it possible to connect the MBA via one USB Ethernet adapter to a LAN and share it with another USB adapter? Basically internet sharing from wired to wired.

I didn't bring it up in the previous post, but since the discussion is going to continue...I would argue that getting a second USB wired ethernet adapter is a "waste of money." Why not get a router? OSX's Internet Sharing turns the Mac into a NAT device. This is the primary function of a typical home router. For about the same price as (or only a few dollars more than) the Apple USB ethernet adapter, you can get a router which will probably provide better throughput performance than Internet Sharing, especially if the machine you're sharing to is doing a heavy download, it likely slow down your machine even if you're not doing anything on the internet. (e.g.: Your Word Processing may will slow down if the other computer starts streaming Netflix.)
You can get small routers, if portability is needed and the 4-port wired switch is not essential. (i.e.: the Macbook has built-in wireless, as does most if not all portable computers.) I got one from D-Link that is the size of a deck of cards and runs off a USB port so no AC power is needed (although an AC adapter is included.) And of course Apple has the Airport Express.
To put it another way: you got a Macbook Air, which doesn't have any wired ethernet ports, but now you want two, and will use up all of your USB ports to do so. One could argue that you got the "wrong computer" for your needs. And even then, I would argue that a router is the "correct computer" to share one wired network connection.
Or can you make the defense and show significant negatives to using a router in your use case. And you have to go beyond price because a wired router is around $50 and often goes on sale for as low as $30, the same as the Apple USB ethernet adapter. And a wireless router is in the $70 range, with sale prices going down to $50. So I argue that a router is a better value.
(edit: for that matter, I forgot to ask, what kind of network connection are you trying to share? If it's like a university or other LAN where you can obtain more than one IP address, then you don't even need a router. A simple hub/switch will do, which I've seen on sale as low as $10, and free when people throw away their old junk. Hmmm, the price of the router could now be $0 if you have a friend that is upgrading their router to 802.11n. )

Compare transmission speed between thunderbolt gigabit and usb ethernet adapters

As the new MBA has an accessory (Thunderbolt ethernet adapter), will its transmission speed be significantly faster than using an old USB ethernet adapter in one of the new MBA's USB ports?

An emphatic yes. The new t-bolt adapter should be many times faster, provided all the other links in the chain support it. I mean, plugging a gigabit adapter into a 10/100 router port, or using a slow internet connection will at least partially negate the advantages.

Cannot apply OS image to lenovo with usb Ethernet

We have a Windows 8.1 task sequence which works fine on over a dozen laptops that have an ethernet adapter. We recently acquired a Lenovo Helix machine that doesnt have an inbuilt adapter but has a usb ethernet adapter. I found the driver for this
and added it to our winpe image (we are using sccm 2012 r2, adk 8.1, winpe 5). When I use the same task sequence, it always fails on the apply OS image step. Relevant log entries here:

Yes, it does have something to do with USB Ethernet. Before conclusion, we may check if there is a workaround or fix for this issue to make OSD work. So, please check the IP Info when the issue happens.
Another way is to use a Standalone media.

Apple USB Ethernet (A1277) not working with Mavericks on MBAir 2012

USB Ethernet works on other computers (Mac Pro) and did work with this 2012 MBAir with OS X 10.8.
Any ideas? Other brand USB ethernet adapters (Cisco and generic Ebay USB 2.0 Gigabit adapter) work fine with this MBAir and Mavericks.

That's an overly broad statement. I have a TB equipped Mac Mini and the USB Ethernet adapter works fine with it. It's only Fast Ethernet (100MB) while the TB adapter is Gigabit Ethernet (1000MB) but it does work. Also worked fine on my TB eqiuped MB Pro.

my ibook's ethernet port is non-funtional. and i have been looking into USB Ethernet adapters to help remedy the situation without buying a new computer. but i cannot get my computer to configure to the port. can anyone help me set my computer up to run on this drive?

The adapter I'm using is a TrendNET TU-ET100c and from what i remember from the manufacturer's website it mentioned no drivers were required.
I really just want to assign an ip address to it and bring to interface up.

Then why not use a switch and router? I'm still a bit confused why the adapter is needed.
In any event I suspect the adapter requires drivers, but I don't see any definitive information other than it's only certified as Windows compatible (except Vista.)

Speed of Apple's USB Ethernet

How fast is Apple's USB Ethernet adapter for the MacBook Air? I read on this very board that USB Ethernet adapters only go up to 100Mbps because of the limitation of USB 2.0. However, I have actually found a USB-Ethernet adapter that claims to be Gigabit speed (see: http://www.ramelectronics.net/network/network-cards/usb-ethernet-adapters/usb-2- 0-to-gigabit-ethernet-adapter-ae2300/prodAE2300.html ) Given that, I'm now questioning how fast Apple's USB Ethernet adapter is.

The Apple adapter is 10/100BT. The limitation is due to the USB port which supports speeds up to 480 Mbits/sec. This is not fast enough for Gigabit Ethernet which is 1000 Mbits/sec. I'm not sure what that third-party adapter does to attain a speed in excess of what the USB port can sustain. However, it requires a driver that only supports Windows. It's possible that the device will not work on a Mac.

MacBook AIr usb ethernet slow when connected to second switch

Hi,
We have MacBook Airs with 100 Mbps Apple USB ethernet adapters.
We have managed Cisco switches for the LAN.
We experience fast speeds when a USB etherenet/MacBook Air is connected directly to the switch.
However... if we introduce a second switch between the MacBook AIr and the main Cisco switch we experience horiffic slowdowns for some (not all) network activity.
For example, we have IP phones with ethernet passthrough. They work great with iMacs and Thunderbok Macbook Airs. However, if we connect a MacBook AIr/etherenet adpater to the ethernet phone, we expereience a horrific slowdown when using Apple Remote Desktop Manage > Copy items... (and also on connectoins to an in-house database). It's probably 15 - 20x slower than when connected directly to the Cisco switch. Other network operatoins work at expected speeds an the Air.
It's not just connecting to IP phnones that causes this problem. If I use a Netgear 1000/100 switch on the desktop, set up as
MacBok Air USB ethernet > Netgear > Cisco
we have the same horrible slowdown for some network operations.
I purchased a 3rd party USB adpater, but had the same results.
Can anyone shed any light on this issue, please? Is there a setting onn teh CISCO switch that is causing the problem? Any know problmes with USB etherenet on MacBook air.

Well, given the title of this topic, what's the problem? As for "high speed" - even old 10-T would saturate the vast majority of broadband connections, and anything is better than no connection at all.
To reiterate, wifi is not much use if you're somewhere with only wired access (and my wifi works just fine in other locations), and if you happen to have blown up your ethernet port, USB ethernet is a reasonable route. Just cross your fingers that you don't trip over it again...

Will Apple's USB-Ethernet Adapter Work on iMac

One of the pins in the ethernet port of my iMac were bent. The second I attempted to bring the pin up, it broke. So I haven't been able to use ethernet for over a year.
Will the Apple USB Ethernet Adapter work on my Late 2006 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac? It is loaded with Leopard 10.5.5. I've read these adapters would only work for MBAir but will it work on my iMac?
I'm not looking to get back Gigabyte Ethernet capability, I generally want to use ethernet again.

I do have a Base Station the current base station.
All my stuff except my iMac & iBook is packed deep in a storage facility since I'm on a move to someplace else. Meanwhile I'm staying in a place that doesn't have Wi-FI but offers wired ethernet connection.
I have my iBook but I want to use my iMac again & that adapter is all I need to get it connected. I just want to know if it would work since it's intent is for the MacBook Air.

Usb ethernet problems

I've gone through several USB Ethernet dongles today. One was a generic product that worked for less than a minute and forced me to shut down my macbook air, the second was a Belkin that never worked and the 3rd was an actual new Apple USB/Ethernet dongle. The last two never worked at all. Is there some special procedure to get these adapters to work?

Hp usb ethernet adapter

Does anyone know what chipset is in the hp usb ethernet adapter MFG# XZ613AA#ABA?
OR, where I can find a usb ethernet adapter with an intel chipset?
Any help greatly appreciated! I have a Twincat x64 program that only supports intel NICs, and it only works sporadicaly in virtual mode.

If the adapter works with the printer, and you can get a recent and proper
driver from the HP support or downloads page, it should be able to print.
And there may be alternative drivers from gimp-print open source.
There also are powered ethernet hubs you can get, so all things ethernet
can be run from the main port on the computer and not be underpowered.
In fact, I have one in a box I don't use just yet because I can run my Epson
printer via USB over my AirPort Express (or AirPort Extreme) base station
and then the other printer, an all-in-one HP OfficeJet something, can run by
wire; since it won't work as a Bonjour printer and isn't seen as an option.
Some are supported and others may be conditionally able to work in these
different situations; so you may have to change your plans if a powered
Ethernet bridge, or whatever, becomes a second option; or other ideas fail.
The options include using the printer as USB, ethernet, or wireless; and
the latter may include the need to choose a compatible wireless bridge
or a wired Ethernet powered hub. And then seeing if you can get the
printer setup to see the printer when configured in whatever selection
or setup you've chosen to use can be equally ufn (unfun.)
If I wanted to run the HP I have by ethernet, it could do it; but you have to
note these things get an ID like the internet, sort of, if you use Ethernet.
Some adapters work and others may not; so it could be a hit & miss trial.
And some say there are advantages to the Ethernet if used on a network.

Can I use any USB-Ethernet adapter, or do I need to buy the Apple part?

I'm about to get an Air and do the migration from my old PowerBook. Can I use the Netgear USB-Ethernet adapter for the Air, or do I need to buy a new Apple part?

Little update for the usb to ethernet adapter is in order. Both adapters are producing Gigabit ethernet max. Keep in mind that new macbook air has the usb 3 version ports at 5 Gigabit internal speed where Thunderbolt has 10 Gigabit per chanel internal capacity. In ether case more than suficient to provide Gigabit ethernet output. Nither one will push more than that out to the ethernet. In my case the decission was made by availability. I wanted the thunderbolt adapter for the sake of keeping up with the technology but there was none on the shelf.
