USB EVDO Modem + Leopard + Netgear WGR614v7?

Hello,
I am hoping to share an EVDO modem I have (Anydata ADU-310A) that I'm running under leopard. Internal airport sharing works but the signal is weak other computers connecting this way have very slow internet speeds (much slower than machine with the modem). I've tried sharing via internet and then running that cable straight into my Netgera WGR614 router but the internet light just stays orange and won't share a signal coming into it. Any ideas? It would be so nice to be able to share this way...
Thanks for any thoughts.
Jonathan

A far better setup would be to use a router that is compatible with usb 3g/hsdpa modems fortunately they are now on the market.

You would have to check that your model of usb modem is compatible with the router.

  • Can't get usb fax modem to work

I have one of those small white apple phone/fax usb connectors, and I am trying to send a fax of a word doc but I can't get the process to work.
It reports that there is no dial tone yet it is connected correctly from the computer to my phone line.
I recall being able to do this a couple of years ago, but now I can't figure it out.
Could there be a compatibility problem with the OS?
I used it before with Tiger and now I am on Snow Leopard.
Is there some setup that I need to do before using it?
When I plug it in, it reports that there is a new network interface detected called external modem and it needs to be set up in network preferences.
In the setup, it asks for a phone number an account name and a password, but which account is it referring to? My computer, my ISP, my network router?
It then disconnects and reports that there is no dial tone and to try connecting the phone line again, but it is connected and is working.
    Thanks for any advice

    Thanks.
It does appear correctly, and everything seems ok, but it doesn't work.
I've been reading around, and apparently the apple usb fax modem doesn't work with digital phone lines.
The last time I used it, in 2007-08, we had an analogue phone line but now we have a digital line as part of the Virgin media phone, cable and broadband service.
Unless someone has had positive results getting it to connect to a digital phone line, I have to conclude, sadly, that it is now obsolete hardware.
I can't even find a comparable item on the apple store website anymore, so they must know that it doesn't work with digital phone lines and stopped selling it.

  • Apple USB Fax Modem

    To whom it shall concern:
I have to say that I recently purchased the Apple USB Fax Modem from an unsuspecting Apple Store, and plugged it into an iMac running Leopard. The Fax Modem worked in the absence of any appreciable problems, pronouncing full functionality most auspiciously!
I had to install zero drivers, nor effectuate the appointment of any difficult configuration.
The only "issue" that one might wish to be cognizant of that I experienced, turned out to be an ID10T error. I entered the entirety of the fax number into the "dialing prefix" box below the entry to key in the intended recipients name, not realizing MacOS was attempting to draw the number from an Address Book entry, in the instant case, absent from the Address Book.
Remediation of the issue dictated that I enter the name and fax number into Address Book, and then subsequently attempted to reassert the transmission of my telecopy, only to then experience 100% success!
This product truly seems to exude excellence in design and function in terms categorically not uncertain.
    Stuart

Just a thought, isn't it the _fax capability_ in system prefs that you are praising and not specifically the Apple Modem itself?
I do agree though, faxing works like a charm once you figure out how to do it.

  • Leopard, Netgear router with printer server and Epson Aculaser C1100

    Hello!
After updating to Leopard (10.5.1) all my printers were deleted. I've two printers connected to a Netgear FWG114Pv2 wireless router. My HP Photosmart is connected via ethernet to the router. It was easy to reinstalled this one.
But I still can't get my Epson Aculaser C1100 back to work on my MacBook. The printer is connected with the USB port of the Netgear router. This setting worked fine before Leopard. On Tiger I only had to set up an IP printer with the IP of the router (no queue settings requiered) and to select the correct driver.
If I try this now, my printer doesn't respond. If I choose the default postscript printer driver the data signal on my printer blinks for a short time, then the printer stops. Two Windows machines can properly print on the Aculaser. Even my WinXp running with Parallels Desktop on my MacBook can print to the Aculaser.
If I connect the printer directly to the Mac and setup the printer, everthing works fine. I called the Apple support three weeks ago (1 h) with no result. We tried all advanced options in the printer settings and I send communication protocols to Apple (recorded with a little tool from them). Untill now I've no response.
I also tried setting up differnet drivers as discussed here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6382269&#6382269
    Thanks!

  • Conecting to bt broadband with a USB ADSL Modem :s

Hi! I really know nothing about computers so would be very grateful for some help
My grandma recently bought me a iBook G4 to take to uni with me. I have never used any kind of mac until now so have spent the last few months getting used to it. However, I am still having trouble conecting to the internet. We have a pc at home which uses broadband (a bt voyager 105, USB ADSL modem box thingy) and I have been trying to get my iBook to connect using this but it just doesnt seem to want to work at all! The iBook doesnt seem to realise that the broadband box thingy is plugged in although it is powering the BT modem box, its all very confusing to me. I have tried using the Network Setup Assistant but its got me no where.
I dont know if they are compatible or not or wether I need to get a different connection device or what! Any advice/help would be much appreciated
    Many thanks, Amy

  • Driver for EVDO Modem

I have a ZTE AC8700 EVDO modem. ZTE doesnt provide support or drivers for mac. I am using the modem by installing Prolific PL2303 mac driver and adding the hardware id of my modem to the prolific kext. I am using generic dial up modem script.
The problem I have is that my speed is severely limited. I get upto 800 kbps in windows where as in leopard i hardly get 80-100 kbps.
    Any solutions?

  • Home Networking with a EVDO modem

I am new to Mac. I am not very tech savvy but struggle through most challenges. I am confused on how to set up my home network. I want to share files, printer, and internet. What hardware do I need? How should it be configured?
Computers: Mac mini with Airport Extreme Running Windows XP in Parallels 5, Dell Inspiron wireless enabled lap top (win XP)
Printer: Canon MP 560 WIFI enabled
    Modem: Verizon (novatel) USB 760.
Do I need a router or will airport work?
What if I want to watch internet tv or netflix instant movies, will I need something more?
I have done so much reading and research, my head is spinning!
    *PLEASE HELP*

I've been holding back on suggestions in hope that someone who has done what you want to do will chime in.
Under Apple Menu > System Preferences > Sharing there are a number of options that would facilitate some (but perhaps not all) of what you want to do.
If, for example, the evdo modem is attached to the Mini and you want to access the internet via wifi from you "couch" pc notebook, you could turn on "Internet Sharing" in the aforementioned Preferences.
That Preference panel would also allow hard drive and/or printer sharing, if the printer is attached with a usb cable to the Mini.
What I'm worried about is that I suspect (but don't know from experience) that the Mini can't provide internet sharing to the wifi connected pc and simultaneously provide drive and printer sharing -- because I fear that the PC ends up in a different "sub-net" from the Mini and the printer.
But perhaps it would work. Give it a try.
If the PC doesn't need to access the internet, then if you turn off internet sharing, the other kinds of sharing would certainly work via wifi/airport.
(BTW, if you attach the evdo modem to your Mini, you might use a USB extension cord to attach it so that you can place the modem for best reception.)

  • How to connect my USB internet modem to iPad2?

    hi,
I am looking for way to connect my USB internet modem stick to iPad2; I understand one way is to get a pocket Internet hub and thru that I can connect via WiFi.
But is there any way that we can directly connect the USB modem to iPad and use it?

A 3G wireless router may do the job. I have used that years ago.

  • Using USB drive between Leopard and Snow Leopard

I have 2 USB drives that were formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) on a Leopard Macbook Pro. I have had no troubles when using these drives between Leopard OS machines however when i try to copy files to them from a Snow Leopard machine an error message appears.
Secondly when i tried to copy files from the USB onto the Snow Leopard (Macbook Pro) only the folders were visible and not their content. When I "Got Info" on the USB via Snow Leopard it showed that data space was being used.
Can anyone tell me if Mac OS Extended is the standard Mac format type then why this might occur and hopefully a solution? I would like to upgrade to Snow Leopard but do not want to lose the data on my external drives formatted on Leopard.
    I appreciate the brains trust!!

Was the computer that didn't work logged on to the "owner' of the images own account, or were you using a 'guest" log-in, kicks?
If the different computers were set up in a different fashion for such things then it might explain the different behaviour.
Another thing that could prevent a Mac writing to an external drive would be if the external drive itself is formatted with the NTFS file system (common on many windows drives). Unless the mac concerned has additional software installed then it can't write to an NTFS drive. Perhaps the ones that could write have the necessary patches installed?
A final issue may be power. Was this a self powered drive or a bus powered drive? Computers that follow very closely the official USB specs often have trouble powering a "bus powered" drive effectively from a single port. In this case trying a "Y" cable, letting you connect to two USB ports on the same computer, will usually get things working. Some Macs seem better than others in this situation, and even the actual USB port used may make some difference.
    Cheers

  • How to change gateway in windows 7 from ethernet to usb 4g modem?

We have a Windows 7 machine that is connected to internet by satelite through ethernet. This workstation also has a USB 4G modem that should be used by a software application. We would like to have all network functionality to go through normal ethernet
traffic and just 1 software application to use the USB 4G modem. How can we set this so we don't have to disconnect everytime from ethernet when we would like to use the 4G connection by the USB Dongle/Modem??

    Hi GadgetServer,
If my understanding is right, you want to use USB 4G modem for one software and other network traffic goes by normal Ethernet.
I think we could add route table if you know the detonation address that the application will visit.
For more information about adding route table, please refer to the following article.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb490991.aspx
Additionally, we could contact the software publisher to see if there are options to choose the USB 4G modem.

Why do you feel that you need a USB modem? I would think that you should be able to use a standard ADSL modem, connecting it to your phone line on one end and via Ethernet to your Mac Pro at the other end.

  • Why is Windows 8.1 causing my Verizon Mobile Broadband USB Pantech modem to auto connect/

Why is Windows 8.1 causing my Verizon Mobile Broadband USB Pantech modem to auto connect? If I turn it off in Windows Settings I can not get service. As I am on a 5 GB plan I do not want my internet running at all times nor do I want o have to disconnect from the internet every time I turn my computer on.

        mebpapa,
Hmm. That is a bit conflicting. After all, we don't want you to have to worry about usage running up or having to get disconnected each time you get on the computer. Ultimately, this is a software functionality of Windows 8.1 however. Have you noticed a high increase of usage when the auto connect is left on or are you just taking precautionary measures?

It's not that simple. You need a "smart" device to connect a hard drive to, like a Time Capsule, or another computer, or an Airport Extreme/Express that was made to share a drive, or some other brand router that has a USB port for sharing a drive, etc.

  • Help please - error message while installing mobi usb card modem

    Hello,
I keep getting an error message while trying to install a mobi usb card modem onto my g4. The message is "error encountered while running the installationcheck tool".
I've never seen this message before, can't find any info about it. I'd really appreciate any help, we don't have any mac support where I live (and mobi have no idea).
    Thanks!

    Yzmina,
Make sure your USB card is compatible with the Mac and also, connect a USB device to see if the card is working.
You don't say what kind of Mac you have, but didn't most G4s have an internal modem.
What software are you trying to install - Macs usually don't need third party software for USB cards.
A little more information will help people solve your problem.

  • Fax modem won't work - Apple USB external modem

I am new to Mac, well relatively.... It's been 8 years, and now I am back!!
Anyway, I got an iMac 3 weeks ago, and love it. However, I can't get my external modem/fax modem working. I bought the Apple USB external modem, hooked it up, setup a fax printer, and NOTHING. I try to print to the fax and it won't even dial. I call the fax number, and it won't answer. I know it's a live phone line b/c I can hook it up to my fax machine and it works fine, both for incoming and outgoing messages. Is there a trick? Do I have to set up an actual external modem interface in the networks panel just to use an existing phone line? Thanks for your help....

You actually need to configure your iMac as a fax machine to send and receive faxes through the Apple USB modem.
    From Faxing in Mac Help in the Finder Help menu;
*To set up your Mac to receive faxes*:
    1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Print & Fax.
    2. Select the fax modem in the Printers list.
    3. Type your fax number in the Fax Number field. This is used to identify your computer when you send or receive a fax.
    4. If you want to control your computer’s fax functions from the menu bar, select “Show fax status in menu bar.” If you don’t want to receive faxes automatically, you must select this option. If you receive faxes automatically, you may want to select this option so you can view status information more easily.
    5. Click Receive Options.
    6. Select “Receive faxes on this computer,” and choose the number of rings before your computer answers a fax.
    a. If you want to receive faxes automatically, make sure your computer answers the phone before any other device that may be connected to it, such as a phone answering machine.
    b. If you don’t want to receive faxes automatically, set the number of rings to the highest number possible, and use the Fax status menu to receive faxes manually.
    7. Choose what to do with the fax after it arrives; you can save it as an image file, email it, and print it to a printer.
    *To send a fax:*
    1. Choose File > Print, and then choose Fax PDF from the PDF pop-up menu.
    2. Type the fax number in the To field, or click the Address Book button to the right of the To field to select a number. If you want to paste a number into the To field and the Edit > Paste command isn’t available, hold down the Control key as you click the To field and choose Paste from the menu that appears.
    3. If your phone system requires you to dial a prefix for an outside line, type it in the Dialing Prefix field.
    4. If you want to include a cover page, select “Use Cover page” and enter a subject and message.
    5. Make sure the correct fax device is selected from the Printer pop-up menu.
    6. To change your options, choose the option category from the print options pop-up menu. For example, to choose your modem’s behavior when faxing, choose Fax Modem. You can choose whether to dial with touch tones or pulse tones, whether to listen to the modem as it dials, and whether to wait for a steady dial tone before dialing.
    7. Click Fax.
