USB extension cord not recognizing keyboard

I bought a USB extension cord to connect my keyboard to my iMac. I plug it in and nothing. I test it on a ipod and no problem. Where am I not understanding?

How long is the USB extension cable?
Since you noticed this problem, have you shut down (powered off completely) your iMac, and then restarted?
I assume you tried connecting the keyboard directly to the iMac's port AFTER noting that the USB extension cable connection is not working. And it worked when connected directly AFTER trying it with the extension cable.

  • MSI Z87-GD65 USB Razer Megalodon not recognized by windows!?

Hi guys, I recently just upgraded my PC and everything is okay except my USB Headphones are not recognized on this system oO I had to reinstall windows to get the motherboard to be compatible with my setup and after updating windows and looking up the problem, I haven't found an answer.
The Headphones work 100% sure because they worked on my old mobo and my laptop that is right next to me.
Says its an unknown device and has a ? next to it. Also these headphones use the Windows USB Generic Audio Driver but for some reason its not working.
Any help would be appreciated alot

Try the latest Bios: >>Beta BIOSes<<
I will check for a newer version as well right now.
    Edit: .141 is the latest.
Might want to check for a firmware update for the usb device as well.
Edit#2: Install the ram properly and see if that changes anything. Locking this topic as it is a duplicate.

  • I have a new Nano and I get a message that says the USB device is not recognized by my computer and I cannot set it up.

I have a new IPod Nano and when trying to connect to my PC for the first time I get a fault message that says the "USB Device is not recognized by my computer. I have several other IPod devices and have never had this problem. When I go to windows explorer, the device does not show at all, so I cannot manually open it.

    Hello JETaylor2015,
Congratulations on your new iPod nano!  I would be concerned too if my iPod was not recognized by iTunes or my computer.  I recommend reviewing this article for steps to take when your iPod is not recognized:

  • Old IPhone USB cord not recognized when syncing

I am hoping to use my old original IPhone as an IPod. However, I cannot get it to sync because the USB cord is not recognized on the computer. I have tried it many times and on different computers. It will not sync or download photos. Can anyone help with the problem of the USB. I do not know why USB will not work. I purchased a new USB from Belkin at the Apple Store and have my original USB cord as well. I do not have any idea which of these devices could be faulty if it is the IPhone or the USB cord. Please help. Thanks.

Thanks, issue is hopfully just the cable. I have recently learned that re-furbed and pre-owned are different. And that pre-owned warranty dates do not start over with date of purchase. I recently upgraded and ordered a 16G 3GS that I found out is pre-owned. Which means my warranty date is a month off. Dont feel very comfortable with having a device that was previously owned and not re vamped. I was told that they just polish them up and put them back into box, and then re-sell. I would have spent an extra fifty dollars to get a new one if I knew that is the way it worked. I was uninformed. Could issue be with bad device? Do they go through verification to ensure that there is no issue with them?
    Thanks for all you do.

  • USB flash drive not recognized by computer. Have tried all options of which I can think.

Okay.  I have a Patriot S-Mini 32GB flash drive that my Windows 8.1 HP Slimline 400-434 is not recognizing. I believe it recognized it once, and has refused to do so since. My laptop (Windows 7 Toshiba) recognizes it just fine.
All other USB devices function perfectly on this computer. USB mouse/keyboard/USB Hub/Apple iPhone cable.
    1. I have tried unplugging all other USB devices before trying this one. FAIL
    2. I have gone to Device Management and the USB drive does not appear in the list. FAIL
    3. I have uninstalled the USB Root Hubs and restarted the computer. FAIL
    4. I have tried plugging the USB drive into the rear ports that plug directly into the motherboard. FAIL
    5. I have updated the drivers, and have been unable to find a BIOS update as the link on the HP website downloads and says that it is incompatible for my computer. FAIL
...so what the bloody gorram heck do I do now?
    This question was solved.

Okay, and in the most ridiculous way I have ever solved a technical problem...
The USB flash cannot be inserted ALL the way into the port. It has to be inserted slowly, so that the contacts line up.
I figured this out by trying to connect it into my USB hub and noticing that the red indicator light was going on and off as I inserted the USB drive, flickering on as I inserted it and then off once it was all the way in.
Weird. But hey. It works now.

  • Z87-G45 USB ports disconnecting / not recognized

I am having some frustrating issues with usb devices.  The only USB device that seems to work is my mouse plugged into the back 3.0 port.
Computer is 2 weeks old and I originally loaded windows 8.1 pro from USB on a fresh install and it worked great and was working fine until a few days ago.   I noticed the issue started when I turned the computer on from a power save and the bios got stuck on a black page with the code "9c".  When usb devices were unplugged this went away.  If i plug them back in they won't stay connected and if I restart "9c" error code returns.
At one point I was able to have my 2gb seagate USB drive + a 16GB flash drive + a logitech webcam plugged in and all worked beautifully.
Something changed - now if I plug anything into the front usb ports I just keep getting windows reconnect/disconnect dings.  If i plug into the back USB ports I am getting "USB device not recognized" and other errors.   Keyboard works fine as its plugged into p2p port and not USB.
My bios is up to date and also there are no exclamation marks in the device manager.
I have tried changing the power management settings,
uninstalling all USB devices in Device Manager
unplugging/re installing logitech g400 mouse and drivers
I reinstalled chipset drivers from MSI support page
Checking/replugging the front usb 3.0 connector on mobo
    This is driving me insane.

Aha, that is the newer chipset for sure. That destroys my initial thought then.

  • GPIB-USB-B device not recognized by Windows XP

I am using an HP Compaq nx9010 notebook with Windows XP Pro. When I plug in the the GPIB-USB-B, I get an error message telling me that 'The Device has not been Recognized'. I hjave followed all the instructions and have updated the bios and drivers of the notebook, but to no avail. I have uninstalled and reinstaleld the drivers several times to no effect. I have also tried running the device on an older Windows 98 PC, but the interface is not recognized there either! Is it broken?

    Hi Andrew,
It's Pete from NIUK Tech. support department here. From what you've described it does sound like there may be something wrong with your product.
Firstly, I would just like to make a couple of checks to make sure. If it is broken, we can then organise for it to be repaired/replaced.
    1. Has the GPIB-USB-B ever been working. i.e. how long have you had it, was it working when you got and has since stopped working or has it never worked.
    2. Are you plugging in the GPIB-USB-B before the computer is switched on. This shouldn't actually matter as it is a plug and play device. It would just be useful to know if it works when you switch the computer on with the device plugged in.
    3. I know you've tried it on a couple of computers with differen
t operating systems, have you also tried different USB plug and play devices on the same USB port as your plugging this device into.
These questions are just to cover all the bases before we send it back to the factory for repair. If we do need to RMA the device then I will need to speak to you in person to get some more details. If and when this is needed, it would probably be easier for you to either give me your e-mail address or phone into the department and ask for me.
Anyway, if you get back to me with the answers to these questions then we can carry on from there.

  • USB Medical Device not recognized by iMac or Windows through Parallels 7 Virtual Machine

I have a USB Medical device which initially i was using through a Windows based Laptop, I want to connect it to my iMac to use it through Parallels on Windows 7. The device is not recognized by my iMac therefore it is not recognized by the virtual machine. It does not show in the Universal Usb devices or else. It is a Windows USB Device.
    Would appreciate your help.
    Thank you
    Kantu

Thanks for the reply. I was able to get the WD hard drive back up and running using the Disk Utilities application. I tried to fix it using the diagnose / repair option but that failed so I had to reformat and partition it. Now it works great but I lost all the data that was on it. I still don't know what caused the problem and hope it doesn't happen again.

  • USB Audio Device Not Recognized by Stream 7 tablet

Half the reason I bought the Stream 7 was to use it has a music player with my iBaso D2 USB Audio DAC Headdphone Amp.
The device is recognnized by my Win 8.1 desktop and every other computer I've plugged it into.  Why it is not recognized as an audio playback device is beyond me.  I've tried all of the suggestions that I've been able to find on the net without any luck.  Is therte some reason why this function has been disabled on the Strwea 7?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Problem Solved!
It turned out to be a combination of the usb cable and the OTG USB hub.  On my desktop the iBaso was cable specific as to the device being recognized.  When I tried the working cable witht the OTG hub on the Stream 7 it failed as usual.  But when I tried the cheap monoprice adapter it worked.
The usb audio solves the horrible sound problem with the Stream 7 for anybody who is lookiing for a Fix.
The OTG hub works with a mouse and  a mSata drive perfectly but not with the iBAso DAC.
Thanks to everyone who replied for keeping me trying.

  • My external USB drive is not recognized by Win XP

    Hi!
I have an external USB drive that is HTF+ formatted. It is not recognized by Windows XP. If I start the windows disk manager it gives me the option to initialize the drive. Do I dare to do this? Will it not erase the information on the drive?
    Thanks for any help!
    / Anders

Hi Anders and welcome to Discussions,
I have an external USB drive that is HTF+ formatted. It is not recognized by Windows XP. If I start the windows disk manager it gives me the option to initialize the drive. Do I dare to do this? Will it not erase the information on the drive?
    Yes it will !!
Although with the BootCamp 3.0 Drivers (from the OSX Snow Leopard DVD) and the 3.1 Driver update (downloadable) Apple has introduced read-access to HFS+ partitions from Windows this feature seems to have some serious problems for some people.
Personally I see this feature as "experimental" at the moment.
XP itself knows nothing and therefor can not use/see HFS+ partitions and GPT (GUID partition table) harddisks.
You might wanna have a look (or buy) at MacDrive http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive/ which right now is the better solution.
    Thanks for any help!
    / Anders
    Hope it helps
