Usb flash drive - How open?

I am new to Apple interface

Still no luck finding this on desktop.  I did find the 2 usb drives by going a circuitous route through Finder and a a step I don't remember, finally to device.  Is there a way to get it onto desktop, so not so slow?

  • New Keyboard Not Compatible With All USB Flash Drives

    Hi,
I've noticed that the new super-thin iMac keyboards are not compatible with all USB Flash Drives. Here's an example.
I have 2 USB Flash Drives. One is a ByteStor 2GB USB 2.0 High Speed Dataferry Flash Drive, the other is a Kingston DataTraveler 1GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive. Neither of these drives used to work with the previous design of iMac keyboard, giving me the "low power" warning.
However, the ByteStor works just fine with the new super-thin iMac keyboard, but oddly enough, the Kingston DataTraveler doesn't. Does anyone know why this is? What's the difference? When buying a new USB Flash Drive, how do you know if it's compatible with the new iMac keyboard or not?

Thanks. Yeah the Kingston DataTraveler works just fine if I plug it into one of the USB 2.0 ports on the back of the iMac. But if I plug it into the new thin Apple Keyboard, it gives the low power warning.

Anyway, I'll try that new keyboard software update and report back.

  • How Can I Back Up My iTunes Library To A USB Flash Drive?

I have around 5GB of files in my iTunes Library and I don't want to have to use multiple blank cds (dvds) to get my files onto my new iMac. On top of that I can't my cd-writer doesn't work. So I bought an 8GB USB Flash Drive and I just want to know how I can get my iTunes Library to back up to my USB Flash Drive.

Is all your music, as well as your iTunes folder, in My Music? If so, copy your My Music folder to the drive. That will back up all the songs, and the iTunes library files, which happen to be located in iTunes/iTunesMusic.
In case you are asking how to copy: Close iTunes. Insert the USB drive into the machine and open it like a folder. Then you can use drag and drop to put stuff in it.

  • As a new MacBook user I plug in my USB Flash Drive but don't know how to access its contents. Please help. Thanks.

as a new MacBook user, when inserting my USB Flash Drive, I do not know how to access its contents. Please help. Thanks.

Open a new Finder window, Finder > File > New Finder Window, and it should appear on the left under Devices.
If you don't see it there, or to get it to show up on the Desktop: Finder > Preferences... General tab, check External disks to have it show on the Desktop,  Or Sidebar tab, check External disks under DEVICES.

  • Hi how do i save files to a usb flash drive in windows 8 rt

Hi how do i save a pdf file to a usb drive i have a tablet with windows 8 RT myfiles are in Adobe

Adobe Reader Touch does not support Save or Save As yet.  But we are working on adding the support in a future release.
How did you get PDF files "in Adobe"?
If you already have the PDF files on your device, you can simply use Microsoft File Explorer on the Windows 8 desktop to copy them to your USB flash drive.
If you tap/click on the link to a PDF file in Microsoft Internet Explorer (Windows Store app, i.e. Metro version), IE will prompt you to "Open" or "Save".  After you choose the Save option, you can specify your USB flash drive as destination.

Try selecting them and dragging them to the mounted flash drive. Or select then CTRL- or RIGHT-click and select Copy from the options list. Open the Finder on the flash drive and press COMMAND-V to paste your selection to the flash drive.
Note that dragging or pasting does not give you any control over the photo - you get the current preview with no metadata - the export command is a better way since it lets you make  your own choices in what is exported and how much metadata is included

  • HOW TO YOU ADD USB FLASH DRIVE TO BOOT OPTION

i HAVE TWO LAPTOPS SAME MODEL NUMBER ONE CRASHED, hp SUPPORT TALKED ME THROUGH F11 TO RECOVER TO FACTORY CONDITION  THE LAPTOP STOP AT 100% WITHN1 MINUTE LEFT TO CMPLETE.  HP TOLD ME TO ESCAPE AN DO F2 TO CHECK THE HARD DRIVE.  THAT WORK IT SHOWED ALL THE CHECKS PASSED.  IT TOOK 2 + HOURS SO WHEN i CALLED BACK DIFFERENT PERSON SAID $350 SEND IT THEY WILL FIX.  iT'S NOT IN WARRANY SINCE FEB2014 i ONLY PAID $399 FOR IT, CANNOT AFFORD THAT.  SO HP TECH SAID USE SECOND PC TO MAKE A FLASH DRIVE .  (I MADE CD'S WHEN I FIRST GOT IT BUT THEY DID NOT WORK).   SO GOT A FLASH DRIVE WTH 32GIGS (I THOUGHT SHE SAID I NEEDED AT LEAST 20 GIGS)  COPIED THE RECOVERY PROGRAM, NOW THE USB WILL NOT OPEN.  FROM AN EARLIER WRITTER HE WAS TOLD TO F10 BIOS, ESC LOOP FOR BOOT OPTIONS TO SEE IF USB FLASH DRIVE IS THERE.  MY PROBLEM ITS NOT ON MY PC SO HOW DO I ADD IT SO THE USB WILL OPEN.
RIGHT NOW PC IN A LOOP WHEN POWERED ON HP AND TIME COMES UP, LITTLE WHILW A BLOCK WITH HP/DAT/TIME COMES UP AND A CMD ON BOTTOM OF SCREEN, IT GOES BY TOO FAST T CLICK ON IT AND GOES BACK TO HP LOGO.  IF I COULD ADD USB FLASH AS AN OPTION IT MIGHT MAKE IT OPEN  ANY HELP APPRECIATED.

The flash drive is not going to show up if it is not bootable. To make a bootable Recovery on flash you have to use Recovery Manager just like you do to create cd/dvd Recovery.

  • How to install (using usb flash drive) os x snow leopard on 10.5?

i have a version 10.5 (leopard), but i would like to install snow leopard (10.6). i tried using bootable usb flash drive using the "utility drive". However, it did not quite work as i expected. Does anyone know how to use bootable usb flash drive to install snow leopard on leopard?

How to Install OS X Updates Successfully
    A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your current Leopard installer DVD. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
    C. Important: Please read before installing:
If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update.  While the installation is in progress do not use the computer.
    D. To upgrade:
    Insert the USB flash drive.
    Restart the computer.
Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "OPTION" key.
Release the key when the boot manager screen appears.
Select the icon of the USB flash drive and click on the arrow button below the icon.
When the installer finishes loading follow the onscreen instructions.

  • How do I browse & play .mp3 files from a USB flash drive using Labview 8.0?

I'm a tester & want to test USB flash drives connected to PC.
I want to browse the file system & playback the audio files, .jpeg files etc in the USB drive. I've Labview 8.0. When I searched for some examples or VIs which can detect the USB flash drive, couldn't find any. So if you could point me in the right direction, I can find a solution to my problem.
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You probably won't find specific examples for this.  A USB flash drive is mounted by the OS and appears as a new memory storage device to all software on the PC, including LabVIEW.  You can certainly write a LabVIEW program to open files on the stick and play/run them but I would create a VI that wrote files to the stick and then read them back and checked them for bit-level errors.  Keep in mind that your OS might be doing parity checking under the hood which would make your test rather meaningless.
BTW, testing memory by looking at pics or listening to MP3s would be useless of course.  A human can't see or hear bit-level errors in a high bandwidth data stream.
    Using LabVIEW: 7.1.1, 8.5.1 & 2013

  • Hi, I have a late 2008 iMac with a new hard drive. How do I install Mountain Lion from my bootable USB flash drive.

How do I install Mountain Lion to a new hard drive without having the recovery partition on it.
I have the USB flash drive with software on it but when I switch my Mac on all I have is a white screen & a flashing question mark.
    ATB,
    Steve.

Did you use LionDiskMaker or DiskMaker X?
Boot the machine with the option key down until you see your bootable USB stick.  Select the latter, and reboot.
When the installer boots up, you will first need to choose Utilities and Disk Utility. Select the target HD device name and then the partition tab. Select 1 partition, name it Macintosh HD. Format is Mac OS Extended, and option is GUID. Apply. Exit Disk Utility and return to the installer, which will now show your newly partitioned HD as available for install.
When OS X is installed and all updates applied, press shift+command+U and run disk utility again. Verify/repair permissions and verify the boot disk.

You can't reformat it and not wipe everything on it.
Have you tried a different USB port?
Only other option, back it up on a different computer.

  • How do I backup to a USB flash drive?

How do I backup to a USB flash drive?

Do it with Windows, not with iTunes. Copy your whole iTunes folder from the hard drive to the USB flash drive. Or, if you have music not in the iTunes folder, then copy the whole My Music folder.
Before you start, make sure the flash drive has capacity. Most iTunes libraries are bigger than most flash drives. If you need more room, consider an external hard drive, which have much more capacity than a flash drive.
