USB Flash Drive Issues

I just bought a USB Flash Drive(1GB)to back up my purchased music from my iTunes music library and I have no idea how to do it...Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Take a seat this could be a while. First right click on the start menu. click on explore. Navigate to My Documents>My Music There should be a folder called iTunes. Then inside of iTunes there should be a folder called iTunes Music. Iside are all of the different music folders arranged by artist. There is all your iTunes music. Select all the music that you want to back up. To select multiple songs, use the Ctrl of Shift keys. Once you have selected all the music you wish to copy. on you keyboard press and hold [Crtl]+C, this copies all the music. Now navigate to your flash drive. It should be in the E or F drives. Double click on it. Now on your keyboard press and hold [Ctrl]+V. This should put all of the music you previously copied into the flash drive. This should work. If you have any problems reply to this post. hope this helps.

  • USB Flash Drive Issue On iMac - 1.1 on iMac, 2.0 on any other Mac

    I have a Core i7 27" Late 2009 iMac.
I just noticed this issue today.
I have a couple of Patriot XPorter XT USB Flash drives that I use among my Macs to transfer big files around.
Hooking one of the 8GB flash drives to my iMac, the one listed above, it shows the device operating at USB 1.1 speeds, whether it's in a powered hub, or one of the 4 USB ports in the back of the machine. This was odd, because this was the first time it had ever done this. I only noticed this due to the painfully slow transfer rate the Finder was reporting to me. Restarting the iMac, cold starting the iMac, resetting permissions, PRAM and SMC did nothing. I thought it was a bum drive.
So I grabbed a 16GB flash drive (same brand and model family, different capacity) and it works perfectly fine on the iMac at USB 2.0 speeds. Hmm...
So I boot the iMac into Win 7 Ultimate x64. Both drives are listed at USB 2.0 speeds. Something is definitely afoot here.
To make sure I'm not losing my sanity, I grab my MacBook Pro and test the drives in there. Both drives are listed at USB 2.0 speeds.
I then run to my Mac Pro. Both drives are listed at USB 2.0 speeds.
Did something go wonky on my iMac?
    Machine specs (for comparison above)
    iMac 27" i7 2.8GHz - 16GB RAM
    MacBook Pro 15" Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz - 4GB RAM
    Mac Pro Xeon 2.66GHz - 12GB RAM

I think that you are just running into a communication blip between the thumb drive and the controller for the USB ports on your iMac. It is obviously reading the 8 GB drive as older and slower and is assigning that lessor priority to the bus serving the drive.
Have you tried attaching the drive directly to the iMac with no other device connected to a USB port? If it is the same, then I doubt there is anything that you can do, that is going to be the way the USB controller reads this thumb drive.

  • USB flash drive issue with photoshop.

For some reason when i try to save .psd files from photoshop CS3 to my usb flash drive I always get The disk is full error, even when the disk is empty. I try to save to the disk, and I can save to the desktop but cannot drag and drop it in. It's a 1 gig flash drive.

Hi Skwertz: Have you tried plugging in the USB Flash drive and emptying the trash? Just be sure that the items in the trash are really meant to be thrown out.

  • USB Flash Drive Issue

I hope this is the right section to post in, if not can the moderator please move it accordingly.
I have a USB hard drive which I use for Time Machine without a problem, but I also have a USB flash drive. Since I have used it with my Mac I have not been able to recognize it on PC's. Not that I want to use any PC's, but at school I need them for printing.
Is there any settings I need to change or programs I need to download to make sure my USB drive will be Mac & PC compatible? Do I need to do a format or something?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
or you format your Harddrive (USB / HDD) in Windows with the NTFS-Format (it is for bigger files) an install on Mac the programm "MacFuse". With this tool your Mac read the NTFS-Format. Also no problems with your PC and Mac.
But i dont know a answer for the rights bug.
    Nice greets

  • 6910P bios recover usb flash drive issue

hello I have a 6910P, that got messed up when I upgraded the memory to 4gb,  its was running fine, then I plugged my wall charger in, and it stated your charger is not the right power
or something to that effect, then it shut down.
I have read a few threads, that stated it was a bios issue,
but the issue is that I cant get into the bios to upgrade it, and or reset the settings
i have removed the cmos battery
    I have also tried this
Just so nobody else has to go through this hell I finally got it working fo me on my HP G60-235DX.
I downloaded the latest Bios (360BF65.FD)
Made two copies and renamed them to 3612.FD and 3612.BIN (Not sure which is exactly right)
Copied that to a small (256MB) SD Card (Any 2Gig and below would probably work)
Placed the SD in the laptop
Removed Battery and AC from the laptop
Pressed and held both WIN and B Key
Inserted AC, waited 4 seconds and pressed power, released WIN+B right after pressing power.
Give it a minute and it will start to beep very annoyingly, nothing will be on screen.
It powers down when its done and that's it.
my machine refuses to boot to the bios, I only have a 4Gb usb drive formatted to FAT,  is this drive just too large or something?
also I know the unit still works as the cpu fans turns on as soon as I insert the battery, and the hd light on the front is also on.  the cpu fan just stays, and then turns off... over and over again.
I also bought a brand new oem hp charger, and also put back the original 1GB ram stick
is my motherboard toast, or do I need to find a super small flash drive, or buy the darn usb floppy drive
    thanks for any help

Looks like some high quality brand
    google link
edit: bullshit, this seems to have nothing to do with the brand I guess...

  • USB Flash Drive issues, FAT and Windows, Help!

    Here's the deal:
I have a flash drive, I formatted it in FAT because it needs to be used on my Mac (Snow Leopard) and Windows. When I format it, it adds 2 or 3 other partitions like 200MB. BUT does not show it in Disk Manager or in Finder. I can read and write to the drive on my Mac, and it works (Mac thinks it's FAT). When I go to Windows it says it needs to be formatted. So after a leg-breaking experience in XP to reformat it as FAT, I can't just drag and drop folders into it. If I drag a folder to it it gives me an error code -36. HOWEVER, I can make a new folder on the drive (CommandShiftN) and drag files into the new folder. What the heck? Never had these issues in Leopard. What is the issue? Is this just Snow Leopard or is something screwed and I need to reinstall? Help. Thanks in advance.

    1) Open Disk Utility.
    2) Click your flash drive.
    3) Click "Partition" tab.
    4) Change "Volume Scheme" drop down box to 1 partition.
    5) Change format to FAT.
    6) Click "Options" button.
    7) Change partition table from GUID to Master Boot Record.
    8) Click Apply.
    All done.

  • I am having an issue with a USB flash drive.

Hello, I am having an issue with a USB flash drive. I have a 2012 iMac OS X 10.9. Drive keeps on disconnecting after about 30 seconds. I tried to reformat through Disk Utility but doesn't allow me to verify or repair as it disconnects. This same drive works fine on Windows machines. I tried all USB ports but all give the same issue. Message is: "Disk Not Ejected Properly. Eject "No Name" before disconnecting or turning off." When I attempt to copy data from the disk it comes up with the message: "The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in "" can't be read or written (Error code -36)". I believe the solution for this error is to format the drive but as mentioned this function doesn't work. I need to copy data from a Windows machine to my iMac. Any suggestions with this is appreciated. Thanks!

I went back to a Windows machine, formatted it to NTFS (so lost the data but had a backup), recopied the data. Went back to the Mac but same issue happened after I tried copying the data "Disk Not Ejected Properly - Eject " " before disconnecting or turning off." One of the USB ports didn't detect the 32GB flash drive at all. And disconnected on another one.

  • USB Flash Drive no longer shows on Desktop, it does appear in disk utility. I recently upgraded to 10.8 from 10.6 on both iMac and Macbook and the drive does the same on both.

I updated my Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion and have had only minor issues with some software but I plugged in a USB flash drive and went to format it, it now appears only in disk utility and not on the desktop. I have tried restarting and reseting with the drive in and out, I tried it into my macbook and it does exactly the same there. I can't do anything in Disk Utility so can't access it in any way and it says errors if I try to eject it from DU. I'm not normally stumped but I can't figure this out at all. I'm hoping that someone here could give me an idea that I haven't thought of as it's a large Flash Drive and I really would like to keep using it.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

If it has the same (bad) behavior on two different systems then there is a very good chance that the  drive is toast.
BTW you'll get better response to your questions if the question actually reflects the problem you are having. In this case it would have been better to say you couldn't access the drive rather then that it doesn't show on the desktop.
    regards

  • HP Mini 110-3520ca constantly restarts when trying to restore from usb flash drive

    Hi,
I have a HP Mini 110-3520ca that I upgraded to Windows 8, but was having issues with freeze ups and shut downs so I decided to go back to Windows 7 Starter.    When I tried to restore to factory default the files were corrupted and I couldn't restore from the recovery hard drive or my external back up files.  I ordered the recovery  USB flash drive from HP and tried to restore from it.  It completes the Recovery Preparation and the Software Installation finishes, Windows starts to load, but Ithen it goes back to welcome to Recovery Manager.  When I try to start Windows without the flash drive I get an error log that is below.  Can someone tell me how to fix this or what needs to be done to get my Windows working again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi @Savvy58
I did some further looking into that Error Log you posted. Basically, it means that is looking for a certain location that doesn't seem to be there. This could be a problem with the USB Recovery drive that you have. I would recommend that you contact HP. You can reach HP Total Care at 1-800-474-6836 in North America or start here if you live outside of North America.

  • Boot camp install from USB Flash Drive

    Hi Folks,
I recently purchased a new Macbook Air. It has 10.8.3.
I used the Boot Camp Assistant to set up the computer for Boot Camp. It went through all the steps: First, it formatted my USB Flash Drive. Next, it copied Windows installer crap from the my ISO to the USB Drive. Next, it downloaded the Apple Drivers and put them on the USB drive. Next, it restarted in order to boot from the USB drive.
This is where I hit a wall. The computer will not bpt from the Flash Drive. It is as if the control panel has set the startup disk to "BOOTCAMP" instead of the flash drive. So when the computer restarts, it just says "No bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key."
How can I get it to boot from the flash drive?
    Thanks In Advance
    Andy
Corrected the error message to exact phrase.

Hmmm... interesting... My sites I found suggested otherwise. I tried three diferent brands of jump drives and none of them actually booted the Macbook Air. The Boot Camp Assistant used them all just fine, but booting was the issue. Glad you got it to work. Would you mind posting what brand you used so other reading this thread in the future could learn?
Also, were you just using the BCA or, did you do some other process to make it bootable first? Since the BCA formats the drive, I would think any process done ahead of time would be thwarted (as mine were).
    Thanks!

  • USB flash drive not being recognized as a startup disk?

Hi everyone, I've been searching for similar questions but haven't found one that exactly matches my experience.  So, I'm going to try and explain my issue in hopes that others may be able to help.
I'm trying to create a bootable flash drive from which I can install lion, and eventually Mountain Lion when it is released onto my main hard drive.  My main reason for doing this is  to have a way that I can perform a clean install of the operating system.  Yes, I know I am old fashioned, but sometimes I prefer clean operating system installs rather than upgrading.  In any case, I have downloaded the lion setup file from the Mac app store (Install Mac OS X Lion.app) and am following the directions given on this page to do this procedure.  These directions are consistent with directions found on various other sources online.  Having this file saved to my hard drive, I was able to find and extract the disk image file from the package InstallESD.dmg to another folder.  Once extracted, I plugged in my flash drive and attempted to use disk utility to restore the disk image to my flash drive.  I selected the dmg file as my source and the flash drive as the destination.  I then clicked restore and was warned that all data on the flash drive would be erased while the disk image was restored to my flash drive.  I was prepared for this, so I allowed the process to continue, and it appeared to proceed with no problem.  When disk utility was finished, I did a quick look at my flash drive using finder and confirmed that it did in fact appear to contain a disk image of the .dmg file.  Here's where things get interesting however.
When I go to system preferences and choose startup disk, my flash drive is not listed as an optional disk from which to boot, only my hard drive ("macintosh HD").  When I restart and hold down the option key, my flash drive is not listed as a startup disk either.  I know that the non-intel based macs are not capable of booting from USB, but this is certainly not my issue as I have an intel macbook pro, mid 2009 model.  My flash drive is about 4 or 5 years old; it is a PNY Technologies Attaché 16 gb flash drive.  I have no trouble viewing and transferring files to and from the flash drive, the only issue is that my computer seems to refuse to recognize it as a startup disk.  Are there certain flash drives which do not support booting?  This would normally seem more like a computer issue rather than a flash drive issue, but most people seem to have no problem doing what I'm trying to do.  Unfortunately I do not have another flash drive with which to test this, and I didn't really feel like buying another flash drive just to test this out if in fact this is not a flash drive issue.  I am planning to upgrade to the macbook pro retina soon which of course does not have an optical drive, which is one of the reasons I would like to get this working.  Can anyone think of something else I can try?  Is it more likely an issue with the macbook pro or the flash drive?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

The format says Mac OS Extended.  All of the settings were set during the disk image restore process.  Even if I format the flash drive as extended journaled or some other format, all of these settings are reverted when I do the restore from the disk image.  I will just copy all of the information that disk utility has so that you can see it.

  • My iPhoto photo library disappeared after I used a SanDisk Cruzer Fit USB Flash Drive

Hi! Not sure if these 2 things are connected, but I bought a SanDisk Cruzer 32GB USB Flash Drive. I dragged my documents over and copied them on to the flash drive. I didn't have iPhoto open. I didn't drag any applications, photo library folders, or anything else over to the flash drive. I just dragged over 3 file folders of work and personal documents (MSWord, Excel, etc.) over to the flash drive. It took some time to copy all my documents over, so I left it overnight.
The next day, I decided it might be a good idea to also back up my photos from iPhoto. Interestingly enough, nearly all my photos had been deleted--save for photos from the last 3 - 4 weeks or so. That's right, a decade worth of photos were gone. I went online, Googled the problem, looked through this community and verified that I did not accidentally import one library into another or move (or delete) the backup iPhoto Library folder or anything. I even checked the flash drive. Nothing. Just the 3 folders worth of documents that I'd copied over.
Has anyone heard of a flash drive somehow corrupting or deleting photos from an iPhoto library?
I'm stumped. I have dug through other regular folders where I'd stashed some .jpgs so I could burn a CD for family, so I have put back about 338 photos from a library of thousands of images (some which are, of course, irreplaceable). The irony is that this last year, I'd been scanning in photos from actual physical photo albums to digitize them and have them handy on iPhoto... not knowing that they would disappear. And, of course, the double-irony is that I was using a thumb drive to back up my photos when they disappeared. If I wasn't so bummed, I'd be laughing right now.

Thanks for the helpful thoughts LarryHN. I'm having a Mac guy look at my MacBook Pro in the next day or so to see what he can find out. I described the issue on the phone... and like you, he said that saving my documents to a thumb drive shouldn't affect my iPhoto library.
One reason I bought the thumb drive was to back up my iPhoto library, but the time I got to that, it was already gone. I've thought of getting Time Machine (and have checked out other systems), but the reviews are so mixed, I'm dragging my feet on coughing up the cash right now.
When I launch iPhoto, I only see the last few weeks' worth of photos. Oddly, photos I imported 3 weeks ago appear, but are in a folder dated November 2012--when I know I took those and imported them in January 2013. So that's weird...
When I got to iPhoto Library, I have an Auto Import folder with nothing in it. "My Pictures" folder has nothing as well. I did hold down the option key while opening up iPhoto, but only my recent library (a few weeks' worth of photos) appears. I'm using iPhoto 2011 (6.2.3). I can only hope my Mac guy can help...

  • Trying to format a new USB flash drive so it will work on both a Mac and PC

I have a brand new Sandisk USB flash drive that I am trying to copy movie files onto from my Mac's hard drive.  For some reason I can copy one of the movie files but not the other, even though they are both Quicktime (.mov) files.  In doing some research, it seems the one file will not copy/paste likely because it is over 4 GB in size and the FAT32 filing system on the USB drive prevents files in excess of this size to be copied and pasted.
My question to anyone who can help me is:  How can I get files over 4 GB onto and off of this USB drive AND be able to use it for both Mac and PC computers?
    Thanks for any advice.
    Shaun

If I format the USB stick on my Mac as exFAT, will my client who´s most likely using a PC be able to screen it tomorrow morning...??
exFAT would only be an issue if they were running a version of Windows older than XP. If it is XP, they would need to install the free exFAT update before being able to access the drive.

  • How to detect USB Flash Drive name in LabVIEW

    Hi there
I was looking for how to detect a USB Flash Drive name in Labview
appearently every time i insert USB Flash Drive in a computer, windows assign it a different name
    once "J:" and sometimes "M:"
Is there anyway to obtain USB Flash Drive name programmatically in Labview ?
Because in my program an user shouldn't be able to access HDD Drives except his USB Flash Drive (for inserting some file ...)
