USB Flash Drive v210w 16 GB Write Protected

Hi! After one week of usage, my new USB Flash Drive v210w 16 GB appears as Write Protected.
Impossible to add a new file, delete an old file, even format the whole USB Flash Drive.
I tried various procedures described on forums, as My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePoliciesWriteProtect > Value Data set to 0 \devise\harddisk1\dr2
and normal formatting (Properties > Format) and low level formatting tools, as http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/HDD-Low-Level-Format-Tool-Download-37794.htmlhttp://www.apacer.com/en/support/downloads/Repair_v2.9.1.1.ziphttp://www.transcendusa.com/Products/online_recovery.aspHP USB disk storage format tool SP27608-2.1.8.exe but in vain.
What happened? How to resume using my USB Flash Drive normally? I'm running a mini 311c on XP SP3.
Thank you for your help and best regards.

Hi! I contacted hp support and got as an answer the name of a recovery utility Ufix.rar.  Unfortunately, this utility doesn't recognize the v210w. hp-branded flash USB cards are manufactured by PNY.So I went to the PNY website and dug a little. Actually, the latest release is Ufix2v3. Ufix-II (USB Flash Driver Format Tool)
Applicable for PNY/HP 4GB/8GB/16GB/32GB flash drive products
(This software is not applied to A.V.S. Attaché,
but applicable for AVS-II)
2.98MB
Download http://www.pny.com.tw/pny_en/download.asphttp://www.pny.com.tw/pny_ch/upload/20101028122023052.rar It worked and restored my USB card. Windows and Mac OS format utilities seem not to handle correctly the USB flash card correctly.Mac OS says there's a 16 GB drive mounted on an USB support. I can unmount the volume without eject the USB connection. hp: Please mention this solution on the FAQ! Best regards,

  • USB flash drive use between PC and MAC

I have a usb flash drive that has files on it previously created using a PC.  It contains excel, word and powerpoint files.  I have Office for Mac and put some of  the files on the mac edited them and then tried to save them or move them back onto the drive, but cannot. I get a variety of messages including the disk is full and it is not and that it is write protected, but USB flash drives cannot be write protected.  Are usb drives portable between mac and PCs?

    hey man.
Save the files on the jump drive to a folder on the mac.  Keep it in a good spot cuz your going to need it.
Open disk utilities on the mac.
click on the correct usb drive in the screen, and then click erase.  U will have formatting options in a drop down tab, pick "FAT" or "FAT 32" which it is, name it and hit erase.
This will reformat the drive to a windows usable file format, and the mac will work with it no problem.
Once reformat is complete close disk util. and open the mounted USB drive, found on the desktop and drag the folder you had created to it and your good to go.
windows should have no problem reading it at all now.
    hope this helps

  • Is there a way to protect a USB flash drive from virus?

My daughter's school computer lab is seemingly infected with some PC virus but their school IT folks seem to be unable to clean them and with all the young kids using USB flash drives they brought these viruses home when they plug the flash drive into our home computer but luckily since we are using Mac at home and I have ClamXav installed it detected the virus immediately. So we are kind of safe but I am getting tired of removing this same virus every week using UNIX command in a terminal mode, as it's locked and can only removed using the sudo command (taught by some people). My questions are:
    1. Is there any way to protect a USB flash drive from virus infection (it's a window PC virus)
    2. is there a way or suggestion on how to stop these apart from dis-infecting the whole school computers? The problems are that these young kids are not aware of those viruses in their USB flash drives and their teachers are just too ignorant about it!
Thanks for any suggestions and help

I'd still invest in your case into Mac protection against passing along malware.
Take a look at Intego AV for one for the Mac and for dual-protection.

Whatever you are finding is 'dormant' I assume, but that doesn't mean it can't become active or passed along either. And there are some 'man in the middle' spyware and malware, some which target online home banking (some people run their home banking from a virtual OS that is used for that purpose only, I always wished Mac OS X could be run in a VM mode as well).
The IT folks sound like they need... do their jobs properly and better.
I don't care how young they are, or the staff's ignorance. Time for education is now.

  • Is it possible to tie a PDF document to a USB flash drive serial number

I am looking to publish a number of PDF files (200+) on a USB  flash drive.
I wanted to provide some copy protection but do not want the user to have to connect to the internet.
Therefore the standard DRM offered in Livecycle does really work in this situation.
So I was wondering whether it would be possible to embed a Javascript in each file that, when first opened, would check to see if the USB flash drive is present. It would look at the serial number or Company ID to check for a match. If it was fine then the file would open normally.
The reason I want to persue this method is that I want to keep it seamless for the user, yet still restrict use to those who havent purchased the product on the USB flash drive.
I suppose this would only work if the PDF files are located on the USB drive. I'm not sure whether it could still check for the USB drive if the PDF had been copied to the hard drive and opened. This would be fine also.
    Thanks

This is only possible when you write a plugin for this. With Javascript this is impossible.

  • [Solved]USB Flash Drive inaccessible.

    Hi there.
I have installed Arch Linux on my Sony laptop and I have configured it so that most stuff works. The only problem I'm facing now, is that my USB Flash Drive won't show up when I plug it in. I have tried restarting ehci service, but it does not solve anything. I had this problem many years ago with another computer running Linux, but I can't remember how it got solved. Connecting a USB-mouse works perfectly but not a flash drive. The drive is a FAT32 formatted Kingston.
    This is my dmesg log:

Have you tried to manually mount it? To see if it is a PCManFM issue. Also, have you checked this:

    Hi.
I tried installing gvfs, apparently I uninstalled it for some reason before.   But it did not help mounting the flash drive. So I tried mounting it manually and it worked (Yaay!). But it complained that my flash drive was not mentioned in fstab. So I looked in fstab and the only ones listed is my root partion "/" and "/home". So how do I add USB mounting to fstab? I'm a little bit confused.
And one off-topic question: Shouldn't my "/var" partion also be mentioned in fstab?
    Thanks for helping me
Edit: This is how fstab looks right now

  • How Can I Back Up My iTunes Library To A USB Flash Drive?

I have around 5GB of files in my iTunes Library and I don't want to have to use multiple blank cds (dvds) to get my files onto my new iMac. On top of that I can't my cd-writer doesn't work. So I bought an 8GB USB Flash Drive and I just want to know how I can get my iTunes Library to back up to my USB Flash Drive.

Is all your music, as well as your iTunes folder, in My Music? If so, copy your My Music folder to the drive. That will back up all the songs, and the iTunes library files, which happen to be located in iTunes/iTunesMusic.
In case you are asking how to copy: Close iTunes. Insert the USB drive into the machine and open it like a folder. Then you can use drag and drop to put stuff in it.

  • How do I browse & play .mp3 files from a USB flash drive using Labview 8.0?

I'm a tester & want to test USB flash drives connected to PC.
I want to browse the file system & playback the audio files, .jpeg files etc in the USB drive. I've Labview 8.0. When I searched for some examples or VIs which can detect the USB flash drive, couldn't find any. So if you could point me in the right direction, I can find a solution to my problem.
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You probably won't find specific examples for this.  A USB flash drive is mounted by the OS and appears as a new memory storage device to all software on the PC, including LabVIEW.  You can certainly write a LabVIEW program to open files on the stick and play/run them but I would create a VI that wrote files to the stick and then read them back and checked them for bit-level errors.  Keep in mind that your OS might be doing parity checking under the hood which would make your test rather meaningless.
BTW, testing memory by looking at pics or listening to MP3s would be useless of course.  A human can't see or hear bit-level errors in a high bandwidth data stream.

  • [solved] Suddenly no permissions on specific USB flash drive

    Hi,
since yesterday I can't delete or create new files on my primary USB flash drive.
I then tried my other USB drive and it works without a problem.
Both are from the same manufacturer and formated with the FAT16 file system. When I check the permissions of the files/folder I see myself as owner with read/write permissions on both drives.
the error message on the console is:
rm: cannot remove 'foo': Read-only file system
I'd really like to give you more information but honestly I don't know where to look since one works and the other suddenly stopped working.
    \edit: Checked dmesg:
    [ 769.912866] FAT-fs (sdb1): error, fat_get_cluster: invalid cluster chain (i_pos 123716903)
    [ 769.912871] FAT-fs (sdb1): Filesystem has been set read-only
Seems to be the problem. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

I wasn't aware that FAT filesystems had a concept of file permissions or ownership...
First of all, reboot if you recently updated your system. Because the linux package (the kernel) was also updated. Then install and use gparted to format the drive.

  • How do i install and boot mac os 10.4 on a usb flash drive?

i want to make a bootable flash drive for my powerbook g4 and i have a mac os 10.4 on a install disk.. i want to be able to boot from the flash drive.

At some point in the past, when the hardware was more recent, some said they
were able to make it work. To boot a PowerPC G4 iBook (USB2.0 ports) from a
USB flash drive memory device. The read/write speed of the USB flash had to
be optimal and the capacity large enough to accommodate the booting and also
the necessity for Virtual Memory to run on the USB flash drive, as with a HDD.
Some suggested they made a clone of a working system, boot from USB flash.
    https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=ibook+g4+boot+from+usb
There still are some bits and pieces of information pointing to discussions or
other topics of similar concept; some of the older sites aren't online any more
where claims and 'proof' were given that this worked out OK. Figuring the older
Apple portables were adapted to use CF or other camera memory cards, for use
in systems prior to OS X...
Sounds like a fun diversion, to take ones mind off weather, and other incidentals.

  • Why won't my USB flash drive work?

I am working between two Macs in my house: the upstairs one is MAC OSX 10.6.8, and the downstairs one (an eMac) is MAC OSX 10.5.8 -- if that matters.
I need to transfer files from the downstairs computer to the upstairs one.
When I insert a USB flash drive into the upstairs Mac, I am able to save files to it and from it. (I have already read about the correct way to format the flash drive for FAT 32 and read/write, and I eject the drive correctly when I'm finished.)
Then when I go insert the flash drive into the downstairs Mac:
the flash drive appears on the desktop
I'm able to open it, to see the files saved to it
I can save files off of it, BUT
I cannot save files to it. I get a message that there isn't enough disk space, which is incorrect -- there's plenty of memory
I have tried opening Disk Utilities on both MACs, erasing the flash drive's contents, and reformatting it, but I get the same situation.
I'm guessing the solution is simple and involves the eMac's preferences. Am I on the right track?
    Frustrating.
    Many thanks for your help!

    Niel:
    Thanks for the reply!
The file on the eMac that I'm trying to transfer onto the flash drive is far less than 4GB.
So I went onto the eMac's Disk Utilities and reformatted the flash drive as Mac Extended: still no dice. Even with the contents of the flash drive erased, any attempt to copy files onto it resulted in the same "not enough disk space" message.
So I tried reformatting the same flash drive on the upstairs Mac. Same thing. I tried reformatting the flash drive both as "Mac Extended" and "Mac Extended (journaled)."
    Thoughts?

  • Advice on allowing specific file types to be written to USB flash drive

We currently have all of the Removable Storage Access policies enabled (Computer Config > Policies > Admin Templates > System/Removable Storage Access) and would like to know if it is possible to allow specific file types to be exempted from this
policy. Specifically we need to allow certain users to write to USB flash drive but need to limit to MS Office files only.  Is this possible?

Third party products can do that. GPO cannot.

  • Keynote and exporting to/from a USB flash drive

I just made an interesting realization -
I have a keynote presentation that I needed to export as a Quicktime movie. The keynote presentation was saved on my USB flash drive, so I plugged in the drive, opened the file, and attempted to export the quicktime file to the hard drive of my macbook pro - it told me "the disk is full or there is a problem with the file"
So, I copied the presentation file onto the Macbook Pro, ejected the USB drive, and tried again - this time it all worked fine.
Does keynote HAVE to write temporary files to the same root directory as the presentation file or something? The hard drive on the Macbook Pro is not even close to full - but the USB drive wouldn't have had room for the movie. What's going on here? Anyone else have this problem?

You may think that's what you saw, but you're almost certainly mistaken. An analagous impossibility: even if your audio speakers had a USB port, and you had an mp3 file on a USB stick, no music would play if you simply plugged the stick into the speaker.
A Keynote presentation in native Keynote format is only presentable by a Mac. If the KN has been converted to a QuickTime film and burned to a CD, it would be playable by pretty much any computer, and also by a CD player (I may be mistaken on this; someone will correct me if I'm wrong). In any case, though, there's got to be something more - a lot more - between the KN file and the projector besides a USB plug before a presentation is presented.
