USB Guitar to iMac

I can't seem to get my sound to work with my USB interface guitar. I am using an Art Guitar cable http://artproaudio.com/artcessories/usb_audio_cables/product/tconnect/
When I check the audio settings in system preferences I see the audio levels go up and down when strumbing the guitar so I know the sound is getting to the computer, but when I select the internal speakers as the output I don't hear anything. I have tried everything.
Any ideas?

What is an "audio midi usb cable"? You'd have to specify what you're using. And the midi part of it won't be of any use for you.

What do you mean by "use" - record or playback? If you don't hear anything when you record, turn the monitor on.

New Squier USB Guitar won't connect to iMac or 13" Macbook

Been struggling for the last couple days to get this thing to connect with the included cables to both 27" iMac & 13" Macbook. All GB software up to date and new firmware updates on guitar but no luck so far. iPad 2 & iPhone 4S will connect but they have issues as well and I have to restart GB. It seems that most problems/questions regarding 'GarageBand not working with MIDI hardware xyz or USB hardware xyz' is NOT related to GarageBand at all.
The most important thing to understand when using an external device is that GarageBand can only communicate with it if OSX, your system recognizes it properly. Whenever an external device "is not working in GarageBand", you have to check you system FIRST. Check the System Preferences and Audio MIDI Setup utility before troubleshooting GarageBand.
If the USB guitar doesn't show up in the System Preferences as an audio device then you might have a software issue (corrupted, outdated driver) or a hardware issue (faulty cable or USB port). These things are easy to narrow down if you have a second computer, different cable, etc

You are installing another completely different OS.
I think you need a separate partition on a hard drive to install this.
You maybe able to run Ubuntu in a virtual machine environment, within OS X, using something like VMWare Fusion, Parallels Desktop or the free, open source virtual machine called VirtualBox.
OR, you need to install this on either a fast reading/writing formatted USB 2.0/3.0 Flash drive or you need to purchase a fast external hard drive and install the OS on that drive.
You don't post the specs of your iMac.
If you decide to use an external hard drive depending on your iMac model, I would purchase a hard drive that connect, at least by FireWire 800. If a newer iMac, look into Thunderbolt connected hard drives or if you have a late 2012 or 2013 iMac, look at USB 3.0 connected external hard drives.

I received and old imac 3g from my brother. Now I'm using it as a "media center" for my apple TVs and Macbook. It was connected to a HD of 500Gb via firewire, but it got full. So I replace it with a HD of 1Tb (Westbook), but via USB. The iMac Reads it but it take like 5 minutes to recognize it, it works well streaming to my Apple TV, but it doesn't work via itunes to my MacBook. Another not: I can't connect any new Ipod to the USB, it says that it needs a faster blablabla...
Can I change my USB or I'm forced to reback up my library and buy another HD?

You need to stick with using Firewire drives. Even on modern iMacs using Firewire is preferable as it out-performs USB2.0 in data transfer rates.

Trying to Hookup Yamaha THR10 USB guitar amp to Garageband.

Hi !! I'm trying to hook-up a Yamaha THR10 Usb guitar amp to Garageband.
The only way to get sound, unless recording, is to put the "Input" as Electric Guitar.
I'd rather not use this as the signal then goes through a simulated Mac amp.
If I use a "Real Intstument" Input I can only hear the sound after recording not during recording.

IPod Touch 3rd Gen and Squier Stratocaster USB guitar

I have just plugged my new Squier Stratocaster USB guitar that I purchased from the Applestore into my 3rd Gen iPod Touch (iOS 5) using the mini USB to 30 pin connector that was supplied with the guitar. On my iPod I have an app from Gibson that has a guitar tuner and all sorts of stuff that I want to play around with.
Annoyingly when I plug the Stratocaster into my iPod (either with or without the Gibson app running) nothing happens. Not even white noise.
On the latest of several occassions that I tried this, I got a message pop up on my iPod that said something like 'Your iPod is not compatible with this accessory'.
Does this mean there is a hardware incompatibility between the two devices that can't be got around; or is it simply a software issue? If so. I wonder, will I be able to use the USB guitar with my iPod Touch if I purchase the GarageBand for iPod App?

Contact the App and device developers and/or go to their support sites.
Maybe they are not compatible.

I can't get my USB Guitar to monitor properly

Hi there, can anyone help me.
I have a USB Guitar lead which records fine but I can't monitor the input as it is greyed out when I go to the track info window.
Its fine for me to record the guitar but I can't hear it or the rest of the track when it is plugged in.
As soon as I unplug I can then hear the track fine as well as the other tracks.
Anyone got any ideas ?

You can, but it's a bit difficult because you have to copy the Snow Leopard disc content to a USB drive. Mainstage2/air/m-audio fastrack usb/guitar no input

I just bought MainStage 2 and downloaded to my Macbook Air (13 in) running OSX 10.7.2. Connected my guitar via m-audio fastrack usb and selected the m-audio interface for both sound input and output in system prefs. In mainstage I also made sure to select the fastrack device for input and output. Yet, when I played the guitar no input was recognized in mainstage. I could hear the raw guitar (a Taylor T5) through the earphones I had connected to the m-audio device, but nothing was making it to the computer. Same problem in garageband. I tried another guitar too, but same result. I also made sure to install the most recent m-audio fast track usb drivers.
Any ideas? I know I've gotten the fastrack to work with garageband before with no problem (on an iMac with an older OS). I'm wondering if the problem is something about the air?
Thanks for any help. I'm doing a live gig in a few weeks and hope to be able to use mainstage for it.

Vox Tonelab ST - USB out to iMac

Hello, everyone,
I have a Vox Tonelab ST effects processor that I want to use to input my guitar into my iMac. The Tonelab has a USB output, which I have connected to the computer. The problem is I am not getting anything from Logic X. I went to System Preferences - Audio and set the Tonelab has the input, but the output is to be the computer's system. The input level is showing a good signal. I went into Logic X and under Preferences - Audio - Devices, have set the Tonelab ST as the input device and the output device is set as Built-In Output. However, I am not getting anything in Logic. I tried switching the track's inputs from 1 to 2, but still nothing. I am stumped. Can anyone help?

Have used R and cmd to get a menu up but once I choose one of the four options my mouse is rendered useless and I cant get any further, have downloaded, to another usb stick recovery disk assisstant and am trying to use that in conjunction with the lion option on the previously mentioned screen, computer was responding really slowly and has now frozen on the terms of software license agreement (maybe the last hurdle!) can anyone pleeeeeease help!!!!!??????

It's likely that the boot drive is failing, or that there's some other hardware fault. Run the Apple Hardware Test.

Even if the test is negative, you should make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested more thoroughly.

Help me please!!! lightsnake usb guitar gb2

I have been using Garageband ever since I've recieved my iBook about a year and a half ago. Ive been using it with a lightsnake (guitar input / usb) and ive been getting fair results with it, and then one day... poof. every time I try to connect it to the iBook its fine, doing the thing it does best - light up - except I cant get any sound out of it or anything else in garageband. It wont even let me play loops or other sounds not related to the lightsnake! Sometimes I would get an error Audio code popup in garageband, which makes me think that It has something to do with the audio card. I tried to copy down what this says, but now I can't get it to pop up. Can anyone help me fix this? It is quite annoying

While you wait for someone who may have an answer, put "this device can perform faster" (with the quotes) into google and try some of the things that you read, as there doesn't appear to be a single fix for everybody.
A couple of things I would try is 1) update the usb drivers. 2) uninstall usb controllers and reboot.

I have the latest iMac 21.5 inch, OS X 10.9
I have an evivo vhs to dvd usb stick that converts: red,white,yellow cable - mini usb - normal usb.
it's made to play dvd's and output them to a computer and record them an your computer.
My question is, is it possible to use it as Mac output, like you have an adaptor that get display output and converts to mini usb and from mini usb to red white yellow (S-video,audio).
So i can use my tv as mac monitor?

Not with the Envivo, no. That's an input device only and can't be used in reverse. This would be the type of adapter you'd want:

Logitech camera (this is the build in mic in my extre logitech usb webcam)
all can be used by the system but only 1 at the time
if you want support for more then one then I believe you have to depend on the music recording app supporting it
