USB headset / Jabra 6470 question

I've just made the transition from the dark side, and I have a question about getting a Jabra 6470 working with OSX.  I think it may be a limitation of my understanding of how audio devices are treated under OSX.
The Jabra can connect either via USB or Bluetooth.  Under Windows, there is a driver and client software for the Jabra.  There is none for the Mac.  When I connect the Jabra to the Mac via USB, it shows up as an audio device in Control Center and appears to be available from Skype, but I can't actually get it to work.  There's no audio, and the microphone doesn't respond.  If I connec the Jabra  to the Mac via Bluetooth, I can get both the audio and the microphone to work fine... but it appears that ALL Mac audio is redirected.  It looks like it's all or nothing... either everything goes through Bluetooth or nothing does.  Ideally I'd like to be able to let Skype use the Jabra but the rest of the Mac use the built-in speakers and microphone.
Is this the way it is supposed to work (all or nothing) with a bluetooth device?  And any hints on getting the Jabra to work USB?
System info:
iMac 27" 3.4Ghz i7, 768GB SSD, 32GB RAM, OSX 10.8.2... also has a secondary 27" display and a Drobo 5D, but I doubt if either of those are part of the equation.

usb is a digital serial interface it can never carry normal audio
which is why usb headsets are not just headsets they are audio cards which connects over usb
and to do that you need a driver
about bluetooth all or nothing then thats the same with all windows not just osx if bluetooth headset is used all other audio outputs are muted
would assume the same to be the case if you find a usb driver for the headset

  • USB Headset Question

I recently purchased a Logitech USB headseat so my wife and I can Skype while I'm away. My objective was to have a headset that she could plug in if she head the computer 'ringing' from it's built-in speakers.
What I'm discovering, is that when I plug the USB headset in, the mic works correctly, but the earphones seem to be muted until I click and unclick the mute box in the sound output preferences.
I'd rather not have her changing anything in the preferences... Is this a problem with my particular headset, or is it a USB problem (or a preferences problem)?
    Thanks for your thoughts!
    Bob

    SJA,
Thanks for the reply... The USB 'problem' was interesting. I had adjusted/selected the output options, but for some reason, I'd still get the problem of the muted USB headset.
Then for some still unexplained reason (a couple hours later) it began to work...
    Go figure.
    Thanks,
    Bob

  • USB Headset Prob

Hello, I installed a SB X-Fi XtremeGamer a few hours ago and I encountered some problems. The card and the software included work normally when normal speakers are connected, however, my USB headset (Speed-Link Medusa 5. USB) does not seem to cooperate with the new card. It seems that the headset uses its own "drivers" and actually bypases the sound card, if that is even possible. I tried changing the sound input and output settings from a "USB Audio" entry to the "SB X-Fi" one, but then it all went mute.
Does anyone have a solution please? Is there a chance I can get my headset to work with the new card?
    Thanks in advance?

    You answered your own question,
It seems that the headset uses its own "drivers" and actually bypases the sound card,?
You want to use that headset with your sound card you're going to need to find an adapter for the USB connection so you can plug it into the card, or get a headset that isn't USB.

  • Audio output using Logitech Clearchat Pro USB headset sounds like chipmunks

I use a Logitech Clearchat USB headset for online meetings daily. On my previous machine (Black MacBook 2GHz) the headphones and mic worked fine. I just upgraded to a new 2.66 Unibody MacBook Pro and while the microphone works fine but the audio in the headphones sounds like chipmunks. If I switch the audio output to the speakers, the audio sounds fine.
Logitech claims that since the drivers the headphones use are built-in, it's not their issue. I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this problem and how I might be able to get it resolved.
    Thanks.

' orangehat I sincerely hope you (we?) get an answer on this one! I ordered exactly the same headset the same time I did my 17-inch MBP. Still waiting for everything to be delivered - so can't say as yet whether I have the problem too. Hoping not.
' Hoping there's an answer to your question anyways so I can get an idea of things before my kit lands (IF that EVER actually HAPPENS!!!)

  • HS-1000 USB headset setup and configuration

I recently purchased an HS-1000 USB headset and, firstly, I'd like to say that I am very pleased with many things about them. The sound quality is great, they are quite comfortable, and I like the mic features. Creative has done an excellent job with these.
    I am confused though about the general setup, configuration, and features of this wonderful headset. And apparently I am not the only one. I understand from the response in another thread that the HS-1000 does not have a "game mode" that is configurable in the console. That still leaves many questions about the HS-1000's and, unfortunately, the Help files are not very helpful with this particular model of headset. Any general guidelines would be very much appreciated. For instance;
Is the "game mode" for this headset somehow automatic and therefor does not need any configuration?
Do any of the settings in the "entertainment mode" console do anything with regards to gaming? Or are they strictly for video, music, etc.?
Is the ALchemy software what makes the headset function with 3D audio in a game? (Assuming of course that the game has 3D audio to begin with.)
What if the ALchemy software does not find or "see" an installed game on the system? (ALchemy did not find my installations of Call of Duty 4 or America's Army even though they are installed in their default installation directories.)
Is manually "adding" a game's executable directory to ALchemy the correct way to help it work with the game? (This is what I did with COD4 and America's Army but it doesn't seem to have helped.)
Do current versions of games "see" the ALchemy software and headset as being a surround sound 3D capable speaker system? Or are there any settings anywhere in either the Creative software or the game itself that need to be checked?
As you can see there are many questions about how to fully enjoy these wonderful headsets that the Help files just don't help with. Can someone please give some basic guidance for correctly using this fantastic product? Anything at all would be very much appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hello M_Squared,
The settings on the entertainment mode should also be applicable for gaming. Most of the sound settings should be available on the game itself. The rest of your questions can be answered by this link. Under Documents, you can find the alchemy quick start (how to guide) and alchemy FAQ's. Under Lists, you should find the tested games that works with the alchemy software.
    Hope this helps.

  • USB headset and MBP

I'm not sure this is the best place to post this question. If there is a better forum, please let me know.
I spend a lot of my time in the late evening hours in a flash-based internet chat room where we broadcast audio and video. I do fine if I use my internal speaker and my iPod earbuds.
I would like to use a headset that has the audio transmitted to the earpieces (which works fine) along with an integrated microphone (which isn't working).
I've tried a couple of different headsets whose microphone input don't work. A technical paper I read said that the input needs to be powered/amplified. This would make sense, because the headsets I've had were straight from the headset to the audio input port without amplification.
    However....
I have a Plantronics DSP-400 headset that plugs into a USB port. I get beautiful audio coming to the headset speakers, but I can't get the microphone to work.
I went into System Prefernces > Sound and the Plantronics doesn't show up as an option for the Input subtab. Naturally, I can't get any sound from the headset.
Should this be a Plantronics question?
The Plantronics site for this model says that there should be no drivers for Mac OS X, that it should work as is.
    Thanks!
    Deb

I have a similar problem: the sound prefs won't stick at all.
I would like sound effects to go through the internal speakers,
I would like sound output (such as iTunes music) to go to my Duet,
I would like sound input to come from my Sennheiser USB headset.
I can re-set this every time I want to the above settings, but only closing and opening the system prefs for sound will show that the sound effects are already re-set to "Selected sound output device"
Re-booting will also re-set the sound prefs, but seems to have unpredictable results: sometimes, but not always, the volume of the input device is set to 0
    Any suggestions?

  • XFCE USB Headset issue

XFCE has very annoying behavior with USB headsets.
If I plug it in and select the headset via the xfce mixer sound just continues to play though my speakers. the only way I've gotten it to play out of the headset is installing pulseaudio and pavucontrol, in pavucontrol I can go to the playback tab and select the mic per application and then it works, but this is a PIA. I have properly setup pulse audio as far as I know, with pulseaudio-alsa, alsa-plugins, and an asound.conf file.
I'd like it to play sound out of my headset in every application automatically when I select my headset in the mixer, and out of the speakers when I select the speakers, like gnome and kde do. Is there anyway to do this?
    Thanks

Freaky, but you're right, it works.  I was just in the middle of a garageband recording when my headset (Logitech, not sure on model) kept disappearing on me.  I got a message saying it was disconnected when it was not, then it would come back only to have the same thing happen several seconds to minutes later.  Finally it left and wouldn't come back.  I rebooted thinking it was up too long (I've gone ninety days between reboots easily).  No dice.  So I found this.
Plugged it into a powered usb hub and it's back.
Very strange indeed.  Have any advice on the SD card slot refusing to see the same card every few uses?  lol  I love my macbook pro but this weird stuff... it's just beyond me now!

  • USB Headset Works in One Port, Not the Other

When I got my headset (Logitech) it worked perfectly just after plugging it in and using it. It worked while plugged in to either of my USB ports on my laptop. Recently however, it has not worked at all while plugged in to the port on the left, while it still does work when plugged in to the port on the right.
If I open iTunes while plugged in to the non-working left port and make sure to change my system prefs so that the input and output use the Logtech USB Headset, then I hear no sound of any kind. If I then simply plug the USB headset into the other side of the computer without changing any settings, it works fine. This is new behavior as it used to work in both ports.
Another thing to note is that the volume control buttons on the headset still work even when plugged into the USB port that doesn't play sound. Also, I successfully plug in my printer, mouse and other devices to both ports and they all work fine.
I've tried repairing permissions, repairing preferences, and restarting, but nothing has helped so far.
Any ideas on why this would happen with any device?

Which operating system are you running? I have similar problems in a configuration with and iMac and a Macbook, but haven't tried to switch the system around. see this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2112054&tstart=0
My problem arose when upgrading the iMac to run OS 10.5.8.
I'll try this tomorrow and see if my problem is similar to yours by swopping the system around

  • Can I hook up 2 USB headsets to me Macbook Pro?

Can I hook up 2 USB headsets to me Macbook Pro (running v.10.9.2)?

    Are you looking through Thunderbolt? You can do it on your model with 2 Thunderbolt displays according to Apple Support document;
Thunderbolt-capable Macs, with discrete AMD Radeon graphics can support up to two connected Apple Thunderbolt Displays.
    MacBook Pro (15-inch and 17-inch, Early 2011)
    iMac (Mid 2011)2
    Mac mini (Mid 2011), 2.5 GHz3
      Two Thunderbolt display
    Here is a third party that does it also;
Matrox DualHead2Go DP Edition or TripleHead2Go DP Edition. Pricey though.

  • Ventrilo, Logitech Premium USB Headset 350 and System Preferences

    Hi all,
I have some troubles using ventrilo on my G5 (same problems also on a new iMac).
Ventrilo is working, I'm using it with World of Warcraft, and using it with a Logitech Premium USB Headset 350 (but the problem happen also with Logitech 250).
After some times I'm using Ventrilo, this is very random, people in Ventrilo stop hearing me. I noted that opening the System Preferences, checking the Sound panel, the Logitech is selected as sound in, but the visual signal on the panel is blank (if I speak on the microphone no signal is visualized).
What I need to do is to disconnect the Logitech from the USB and reconnect it. I need also to exit from Ventrilo and relaunch it.
Then all is working good again, naturally till this happen again (may be 5 minutes after as 30 minutes).
I've also tried to remove Ventrilo and its preferences and reinstalling it. This assuming that the cause of all this is Ventrilo and not MacOSX. But this happen also on a new iMac...
    Thanks for any help!

    Hi Croma12,
The problem is not Ventrilo - it's Logitech's headsets and the driver software.
I have had both the USB 350 and USB 250 - each have the same problem, that is, not being recognized when freshly connected. It's a trip to the Sound Preferences pane each time to reset. Often we need to toggle the Mute checkbox to make the headset work.
Even worse, 90% of the time when I connect the headset, it freezes my MacBook completely, necessitating a forced restart. Not Cool.
I've combed through the Logitech support library and discussion forums - as a company, their Mac support is very poor, and their forum moderators know very little about Mac hardware.
To make the switching of sound sources a little easier, Google for "soundsource" - it's a menu-bar widget that will sometimes enable the Logitech headset without needing a trip to the Sound Preferences.

  • Z87-GD65 USB headset and BIOS 1.7 problems

OK...as i've stated on these forums before there is a problem with attaching USB headsets with this motherboard. There is already many posts about the problem so it "is a problem". F.R.E.Q 5 headphone will not work with the mobo, other people on these forums have also complained about razor headsets not working, as I agree with that it is a well known razor has compatibility issues I still think this is a mobo issue that MSI need to address. Logitech G35 work fines...but every other usb headset i've tried doesnt...this is on both 1.3 bios and 1.6. I've also tried other workarounds to no avail.
Any MSI guys readin this...these are the headphone i'm talking about
    http://www.cyborggaming.com/prod/freq5.htm
NOW..the BIOS issue...the new 1.7 that has been released...DONT FLASH IT....it just bricked my mate mobos...lucky the GD65 has dual bios. I tried it to see if it happened to get his freq 5 working...but the PC wouldn't post.
Any comments or development on this situations on this issue will be greatly appreciated.

    Personally I don't think it's a problem with a BIOS.
Have you tried updating all the drivers? Especially Audio..
Like I said, i've tried every workaround from bios to drivers. Been on these forums, other forums, other sources and no solution seems to work. There is nothing wrong with the headphones as they work on every other PC i've tried and those have had different mobos. Those headphones even work on my Z87 MPower MAX no problem..it is just this Z87 GD65 board. Could be just a bad apple out of the bunch...but I doubt we'll get a RMA for it just cause one sort of headphones wont work on it. Now my mate got a pair of $170 headphones sitting there he cant use.
And as the to 1.7 bios...just by going off the few posts on here i'd be pulling it asap, obviously not alot of testing has been done on it. Just lucky the board has the dual bios option.

  • Pulseaudio + USB headset: mic works, headphones don't

I have a Logitech USB headset that I've gotten to work under other distros, but not yet with Arch. I'm running ALSA + Pulseaudio, with my /etc/asound.conf sending ALSA events to Pulseaudio. This works fine for everything I've used, with the exception of my headset. The mic works, but I can't get get any sound through the headphones, it just always goes to the default sound card. When I run pavucontrol I can see my headset listed as an input device, but not an output device.
Any ideas? Been searching, but haven't found anything yet.

My headset is /dev/dsp1, just FYI

  • Why is logitech 350 usb headset not recognized by my MBP?

I have a Logitech Premium USB Headset 350 that is not recognized (at all) by my fairly new MBP, which is running OS X Lion 10.7.5. I have run all of the available software updates but the headset it still not recognized as an input or output device (under system preferences). When I plug it into my old PC (Dell Inspiron) it is recognized immediately and works perfectly. Can you please help me with this? I really want to me able to use the headset on my MBP.
I have emailed Logitech several times and they have been unhelpful!

Either read the headset user manual or contact the vendor.  You should also try posting in the Bluetooth forum area.

  • Plantronics Audio 648 USB headset

I very recently bought the above headset and it has been working fine till now. The microphone is working but the headphones are not. I have read somewhere on the Skype site that the call control buttons on the cable leading to the headset will not work due to an alteration in the Skype software but the headphones should still work....but they are not and although the headset is listed in  audiosettings/advanced options/speakers I cannot get the software to accept them as having priority to my Realtek speakers built into my laptop.
Any suggestions please? The headphones must be capable of working not least because the Skype shop is still selling them
    Peter

Try installing your USB headset directly to a port on your computer preferably one that you have never used before with this headset. You also have the option of disabling your onboard speakers in Windows just to see if it will work. Though it's generally less of an issue with USB than 3.5mm headsets, try installing the latest (v2.71 04/2013) generic Realtek "High Definition Audio Codecs" drivers to see if it changes things. They are available at the link below:
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/
Installing the drivers is generally a two-stage procedure. On it's own it will uninstall your existing drivers, prompt you to reboot, then it will install the latest release after the reboot. You would probably want to reboot one more time afterward.
Doing these things (USB port change/driver update) should update your current configuration in Skype. So hopefully you will get different results.
