USB headset trouble with Skype

*I have a pair of "Skype certified" headsets (Typhoon) and a LogiLink USB splitter. When using it with Skype, I can hear fine, but the headset microphone does not work*. I've changed all the preference settings on my computer and with Skype and I've even downloaded SoundSource to make it easier (recommended in another forum). But nothing works.
I had this problem about two years ago when I first bought my computer and tried using a Bluetooth headset with Skype and that didn't work either.
Oddly, the headset mike works when testing it with the Apple system preferences (at least the blue bars seem to move) but not when dialing up the Skype sound test.
Any ideas? I'm rather frustrated at this point and would appreciate any advice.
Like I said, I've already tried all the basic things like: 1. toying with the Mac and Skype sound preferences; 2. updated with all the newest software (at least for 10.5.8); 3. downloaded Sound Source; 4. double-checked the USB connection, etc.

I'll give that a try. But I find that in these sorts of situations, I get tossed back and forth between the interested parties (i.e. Apple, Skype, headset manufacturer, etc.) with no one really taking responsibility nor having a sense of the whole picture (what's really behind the problem). But I will definitely give it a shot. Thanks.

Trouble with Skype.  Caller cannot hear me but I can hear caller.  Cannot hear voice on test call.  Can see caller.  MIcrophone is on  and volume turned up.

    Michele,
I do not have Mavericks running on my older MacBook Pro. During the call, do you have the microphone icon on the Skype window enabled or disabled? Have done that before.
    My Skype preferences:

  • How can I use a headset properly with Skype?

    Hello,
Just purchased a Skype approved headset.
    Plantronics Audio 625 USB.
    Problem:
The system does recognize my USB device -- which is good.
I select the devise in my Sound applications -- both input and output.'
Called support and they said it should be okay to do that as long
as my computer is reading the device.
    However...
When making a phone call I am still hearing
through my speakers on the iMac and speaking
through my build in microphone and NOT the
    headset I just purchased.
Do I need to make some different settings
on Skype somewhere on my computer?
    And if so, how?
Does anyone here have any suggestions
with regards to this issue? The product says it
    is Mac compatible.
    Thanks,
    Lee Wise

Even though you set the input/output in System Preferences, Skype doesn't look at those settings. Instead, Skype relies on its own Audio settings. In Skype > Preferences > Audio you can set the audio out, audio in, and ringing preferences.
    This is Skype version 2.7.0.330.

  • USB Headset won't work along with Audi

First off, when searching for this problem, I saw many posts explaining why USB headsets won't work with a soundcard cause they basically have one built in to them. I understand this.
    This is not my problem.
    This is my problem:
I have a Plantronics Gamecom Pro USB headset that worked great when I was using onboard sound. It would automatically intercept the first sound signal it could pick up. So if I plugged it in first, before starting a game, the headset would pick up all sound from the game.. nothing to my external speakers.
If I started the game first with the headset unplugged, then plugged them in then started Ventrillo, then the headset would pick up the Ventrilo sound but the game sound still came from my speakers. Perfect set-up.
However, after adding an Audigy 4, the headset no longer works at all. No sound, no mic.. I plugged the headset ito my laptop and it works fine so I am pretty sure it's some sort of conflict with the Audigy 4.
I'm not too much of a techy but I'm thinking perhaps the Audigy 4 keeps a lock on the sound signal somehow, not letting the headset pick it up on the USb port?
Does anyone else have a problem using a USB headset not WITH but ALONG SIDE an Audigy?Message Edited by CroakerJoe on 0-2-2006 03:55 PM

I have the same usb headset and am having the same issue with my pc. I am running the X-fi Platinum. The plantronics are supposed to be a plug and play, but when i plug it in, the headset is getting power, is recognized by the pc and other applications, but will not play any sounds at all, and it works on my other machine with an older card. It seems to be overridden by the new card. when i was running the old audigy i could use one or the other (not both at the same time) which is to be expected with this type of headset, but i did not expect the new card to totally not allow the head set to work at all. This is causing me trouble as i use my rig for alot of gaming and LAN parties. Speakers are often not allowed, and the plantronics gamecom pro headset is a sweet set for gaming. If anyone sees this and can provide a fix. I would greatly appreciate it.

  • Line In Not working with skype mic anymore

    Sorry here is another question.
I was using a headset mic with skype. It was working just fine until I did an update now the line in is no longer working. I am a professional sound guy and I understand the difference between line in and mic in and I would buy that if it wasnt for the fact that it did work at one time. The input is switched to line in and the volume is up. Also the line in does work when I plug in my guitar and run it into garage band. Any ideas?
    Thanks all

Check the Audio Preferences in Skype to make sure they are set for what you want. Also make sure you are using the latest version of Skype, I believe it is 2.7.0.49.

  • USB Mic no longer works with Skype after 7.1 updat...

Using a USB headset with skype, worked with previous versions, works with other programs. I can hear people talk but they can't hear me! Skype detects the mic just fine but when I talk nobody can hear me.
I have tried updating drivers, re-installing skype, I have tried deleting my profile/preferences from the skype folder on my PC and starting from scratch, tried restarting my computer, re-installing my headset drivers, and tried restarting or re-plugging in my mic. Nothing works. Skype simply doesn't use my mic properly in the new version, previous versions did not have this problem, as I said mic works fine in all other programs.

Hi pa.elimination, Can you please reproduce the issue and provide logs as described in this link https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA12321/how-do-i-create-log-files under Skype for Windows Desktop and attach it to your post?
This will help us investigate and solve the problem you are experiencing.
Can you also try with the 7.0 version to see if that version solves your issue?

  • Strange issue with USB mouse and USB headset.

    Good day everyone.
I was experiencing a rather strange issue with my mouse and headset(both USB).
I am using KDE and ALSA, if that matters.
They are working just fine, but sometimes, when I try to lower\raise volume, my mouse derps out. I can move it around, but I can't click on anything(sometimes though, I can click on stuff in window that was active before and sometimes only on KDE panel) until I re-plug my headset. Then, nothing can use my headset until I reboot.
    Anybody ever had that problem?

I've had similar problems for some time now. Unfortunately, I don't know what the issue is either, but perhaps we can come up with some setup similarities and narrow it down. I have similar trouble with just alsa or with pulseaudio, so that's not it. It is unrelated to the DE, as it happened for me in both gnome 2 and xfce 4. It is not related to the machine either, as the same quirks occur in other machines with the same headset. I have had inconclusive results with downgrading to kernel26-lts, the ancient kernel. I thought at some point it messed up and I was sure the older kernel didnt help, but after trying recently-ish, I had no trouble for days -- until I found that I didn't have trouble on the main kernel either. ... then a few days later, it showed up again. Very irritating!
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=122475
Does my old thread sound like your issue somewhat?
Essentially, at times, if the headset (wireless) is changed into a different power state (unplugged/plugged) or the mic state is toggled (mute/unmute), things that could be clicked on normally cant unless theyre in the window already focused -- mostly.
What headset are you using? 32 or 64 bit arch? Have you tried downgrading to kernel26-lts?

  • USB Headset, skype, voip, chat...

    Hi,
    I have a 17 inch G4 running Tiger.
I'm looking for recommendations for a USB headset for VOIP services like Skype.
I want to avoid buying a headset which only works on a PC.
    Thanks,

I bought a Logitech USB headset with mic. I have to say I have always liked Logitech equipment. However, this latest purchase has let me down. Currently, I can only hear out of 1 speaker on the headset and the mic quit working alltogether. I'm going to head to CompUSA and see what other options are available.

  • Has anyone found a Bluetooth Headset that works with Skype?

I have been reading reviews and I can't find anyone who has found a Bluetooth headset that successfully works with Skype with Leopard...
    anyone?

    Hi there...
I have the Jabra BT125 and I have a new Mac Book Pro on it's way. The headset is actually something I already had for my cell phone. And now I'm hoping to use it for skype as well. What I think I lack is the Blue Tooth adapter. I was looking for one that I can power via USB rather than the ones you have to charge. I also have a logitech V320 optical mouse. Do you think the blue tooth adapter can run both the mouse and the headset as not to take up too many USB ports at the same time? (I envision my computer eventually resembling that guy from He11 Raiser! with all the pins sticking out of it) Anyway... Jabra says the BT125 supports Bluetooth version 2. I'm not sure if the mouse is similar or not... (I'm actually really new to all this lingo and I just assume the wireless capability of the mouse is bluetooth... The specs say it's a "microreceiver") Any comments, experiences or suggestions are really appreciated... thanks!!!

  • Trouble with Plantronics Headset on my G5

I use a Plantronics USB headset/mic for online racing, and almost from the time I've gotten it (as a gift) when I use Teamspeex, it emits a loud HUM whenever I push to talk. Naturally, this isn't good. It also started acting up in iChat as well. Now, when I plugged it in last night, I got a message on the screen saying "USB Alert, the device you plugged in is drawing too much current, the port will be disabled". So, I guess what I'm asking is, is this thing shot? I'm running 10.3.9 on a dual 2.0ghz G5 tower, no mods or anything like that, very plain vanilla.
I've tried plugging it into every other USB port I have, and no dice. Although, once in a GREAT while it will work with no troubles. Any ideas?

Get a powered USB hub and try again when the PowerMac G5 is reset and accepting it.

Searching on the web, most results I found lead to this page, where it is said that the problem is due to badly tuned overcurrent protection, and advocated that unplugging and switching off the computer for a little while gets things back into normal. This does not really work for me; the problem seems to occur more randomly, unfortunately with high probability (my camera is available after less than one boot out of ten).
I tried to ensure that the ehci-hcd module is loaded at boot with the ignore-oc option (with a file in /etc/module-load.d/), to no avail.
I also wrote a script which alternatively removes and reloads the ehci-pci driver until my device is found in lsusb. It is sometimes helpful, but usually not. And even when my device is found that way, it can only be used for a while before disappearing again.
Anyway, such a hack is unacceptable... So, my questions are:
is it indeed related to overcurrent protection ?
is there anything else I can try ?
should I file somewhere an other of the numerous bug reports about "unable to enumerate USB device" already existing ?
If of any importance, I am running linux 3.15.7, because at the time I installed my system, I couldn't get the hybrid graphic card Intel/AMD working under 3.16.

WWith the new ios7, I became frustrated in using my iPad3..I'm using Skype as my main communications with my love ones back home, now it seems that ios7 doesn't help me a lot for I'm having trouble with my audio communication coz my family can't hear anything from me.. My skype doesn't have any options or settings that I can check with to see if I can fix it...I need help...please if any of u knows how to fix it..I would greatly appreciate it...

You can try removing app then reinstalling. If that doesn't work
    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
     Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.
