  • USB headset trouble with Skype

*I have a pair of "Skype certified" headsets (Typhoon) and a LogiLink USB splitter. When using it with Skype, I can hear fine, but the headset microphone does not work*. I've changed all the preference settings on my computer and with Skype and I've even downloaded SoundSource to make it easier (recommended in another forum). But nothing works.
I had this problem about two years ago when I first bought my computer and tried using a Bluetooth headset with Skype and that didn't work either.
Oddly, the headset mike works when testing it with the Apple system preferences (at least the blue bars seem to move) but not when dialing up the Skype sound test.
Any ideas? I'm rather frustrated at this point and would appreciate any advice.
Like I said, I've already tried all the basic things like: 1. toying with the Mac and Skype sound preferences; 2. updated with all the newest software (at least for 10.5.8); 3. downloaded Sound Source; 4. double-checked the USB connection, etc.

I'll give that a try. But I find that in these sorts of situations, I get tossed back and forth between the interested parties (i.e. Apple, Skype, headset manufacturer, etc.) with no one really taking responsibility nor having a sense of the whole picture (what's really behind the problem). But I will definitely give it a shot. Thanks.

  • Ventrilo, Logitech Premium USB Headset 350 and System Preferences

    Hi all,
I have some troubles using ventrilo on my G5 (same problems also on a new iMac).
Ventrilo is working, I'm using it with World of Warcraft, and using it with a Logitech Premium USB Headset 350 (but the problem happen also with Logitech 250).
After some times I'm using Ventrilo, this is very random, people in Ventrilo stop hearing me. I noted that opening the System Preferences, checking the Sound panel, the Logitech is selected as sound in, but the visual signal on the panel is blank (if I speak on the microphone no signal is visualized).
What I need to do is to disconnect the Logitech from the USB and reconnect it. I need also to exit from Ventrilo and relaunch it.
Then all is working good again, naturally till this happen again (may be 5 minutes after as 30 minutes).
I've also tried to remove Ventrilo and its preferences and reinstalling it. This assuming that the cause of all this is Ventrilo and not MacOSX. But this happen also on a new iMac...
    Thanks for any help!

    Hi Croma12,
The problem is not Ventrilo - it's Logitech's headsets and the driver software.
I have had both the USB 350 and USB 250 - each have the same problem, that is, not being recognized when freshly connected. It's a trip to the Sound Preferences pane each time to reset. Often we need to toggle the Mute checkbox to make the headset work.
Even worse, 90% of the time when I connect the headset, it freezes my MacBook completely, necessitating a forced restart. Not Cool.
I've combed through the Logitech support library and discussion forums - as a company, their Mac support is very poor, and their forum moderators know very little about Mac hardware.
To make the switching of sound sources a little easier, Google for "soundsource" - it's a menu-bar widget that will sometimes enable the Logitech headset without needing a trip to the Sound Preferences.

  • DYNEX USB Headset no sound

    Hello everyone,
I plugged in my DYNEX USB headset for the first time using ARCH linux, and I have no sound.
Things I did to try and make it work:
-It was recognized in alsamixer's sound card selection. I selected the card.
-I unmuted the master sound in alsa by using the command: amixer sset Master unmute.
-I used pavucontrol to select the headset
Anyone have any ideas why i am not getting any sound?

Better bouble check if it is unmuted and volume not 0 - not just "alsa master" like you did with amixer; it's probably best if you select the card in alsamixer (F6 or something) and check the channels.  You can save those settings with "alsactl store".
Do you have sound if you select the headset for an application stream manually?
( p.E. start video in mplayer, look for it in pavucontrol under playback / applications, set its sink to the headset )
If that works  the easiest way to get it working permanently might be:
    - activate module-combine at the the TOP of /etc/pulse/default.pa MANUALLY (it tends to map channels wrong if you have more than 2; also that should ensure that the combine sink is always at the top, which can avoid some trouble).
    e.g.
    load-module module-combine channels=6 channel_map=front-left,front-right,rear-left,rear-right,front-center,lfe
( surround example; customize for your channels )
    - delete the default / per application settings in ~/.pulse/* (in my experience those get rather useless in any case after a new sound device is added)
    - make sure your combined sink is at the top with  "pacmd list-sinks"
    example:
    $ pacmd list-sinks | head
    4 sink(s) available.
    * index: 0
    name: <combined>
    driver: <module-combine-sink.c>
    flags: DECIBEL_VOLUME LATENCY
    state: RUNNING
    suspend cause:
    priority: 1000
    volume: front-left: 45864 / 70% / -9,30 dB, front-right: 45864 / 70% / -9,30 dB, rear-left: 45864 / 70% / -9,30 dB, rear-right: 45864 / 70% / -9,30 dB, front-center: 45864 / 70% / -9,30 dB, lfe: 45864 / 70% / -9,30 dB
    - make it the default sink:
    pacmd set-default-sink "combined"
You might have to "killall pulseaudio" before / in between steps to make sure it reloads settings / doesn't change them back etc.
    Good luck!

  • USB Headset won't work along with Audi

First off, when searching for this problem, I saw many posts explaining why USB headsets won't work with a soundcard cause they basically have one built in to them. I understand this.
    This is not my problem.
    This is my problem:
I have a Plantronics Gamecom Pro USB headset that worked great when I was using onboard sound. It would automatically intercept the first sound signal it could pick up. So if I plugged it in first, before starting a game, the headset would pick up all sound from the game.. nothing to my external speakers.
If I started the game first with the headset unplugged, then plugged them in then started Ventrillo, then the headset would pick up the Ventrilo sound but the game sound still came from my speakers. Perfect set-up.
However, after adding an Audigy 4, the headset no longer works at all. No sound, no mic.. I plugged the headset ito my laptop and it works fine so I am pretty sure it's some sort of conflict with the Audigy 4.
I'm not too much of a techy but I'm thinking perhaps the Audigy 4 keeps a lock on the sound signal somehow, not letting the headset pick it up on the USb port?
Does anyone else have a problem using a USB headset not WITH but ALONG SIDE an Audigy?Message Edited by CroakerJoe on 0-2-2006 03:55 PM

I have the same usb headset and am having the same issue with my pc. I am running the X-fi Platinum. The plantronics are supposed to be a plug and play, but when i plug it in, the headset is getting power, is recognized by the pc and other applications, but will not play any sounds at all, and it works on my other machine with an older card. It seems to be overridden by the new card. when i was running the old audigy i could use one or the other (not both at the same time) which is to be expected with this type of headset, but i did not expect the new card to totally not allow the head set to work at all. This is causing me trouble as i use my rig for alot of gaming and LAN parties. Speakers are often not allowed, and the plantronics gamecom pro headset is a sweet set for gaming. If anyone sees this and can provide a fix. I would greatly appreciate it.

  • WoW usb headset & RMA

I purchased my Wow usb headset a few months ago. It was fantastic until it suddenly stopped working for no apparent reason. I went through a circular set of e-mails with the Creative Support Staff, finally ending in my creating an RMA and shipping the headset back.
I just received the headset back today, and I happily took it out of the box, reinstalled the drivers and firmware, plugged the headset in and....nothing. Absolutely nothing, the headset after everything STILL doesn't work!!!!
I called up the customer service number on the letter that came back with my headset, only to be told by the rep on the other end of the line that it looks like they shipped back the exact same headset and there was nothing in the system that explained any of the tests (if any were even done) that were done to find or fix the issue.
I am so utterly disgusted with Creative right now I could scream. What sort of company sends back the SAME FAULTY product that was sent to them?!!
I do not think that I will endorse this product to any that have asked (and I have, quite a bit actually), and this aggravation far exceeds the $120 price tag for this headset.

    Hello KokChoy-CL,
I tend to agree with your assessment. I live with Orthiad, and it was my on linux system that she used to test the headset. It didn't even register that something had plugged in, at all. The mini USB side of the cord began to get hot, and I'm almost certain it's a hardware issue. I have nothing against Creative, and have frequently championed the company as a vendor of quality wares, and still would under most circumstances. However, this appears to be a design flaw. If you are getting the same issue straight from the box, as the original issue, then it reeks of design flaw. Having run forums myself in the past, I know that it's your job to be the 'face' of the company, and I can't fault you for that. Been there, done that. I know that she appreciates the words of encouragement. My problem comes into play when a 'straight from the box' headset has the same issue as one that just 'quit working' for no apparent reason. As much as I know that you have nothing to do with the actual construction process, I would still recommend that you let those that may be in some sort of position to adequately address the issue, that the product is faulty. Be it cheap electronics, faulty hardware, or whatever, there is obviously a problem that needs to be fixed. I work in IT, an industry that is certainly not forgiving of issues like this. While this is hardly enough to 'bring the company down', it certainly is a blemish. I've recommended Creative for years, and even said tonight that I was surprised at this. I hope that the flaws are fixed soon, as it seems to be causing trouble for not just her, but many others.

  • Usb headset for iPad 2

    Hi
Used FaceTime on my iPad 2. Sound quality quite poor. Does Anybody know if a usb headset will work with the iPad using the usb connector kit?
    Thank you
    Anne-marie

The iPad Camera Connection Kit works perfectly with my Logitech USB G930 Headset, which is a wireless headset.  In fact, the sound is actually very, very good.  I use it for communications apps like Skype and Teamspeak.  I know that others work as well.  It's actually the main reason I bought the Camera Connection Kit.
The only app I've had trouble with is Garageband.  It doesn't like the mic on the headset.

  • XFCE USB Headset issue

XFCE has very annoying behavior with USB headsets.
If I plug it in and select the headset via the xfce mixer sound just continues to play though my speakers. the only way I've gotten it to play out of the headset is installing pulseaudio and pavucontrol, in pavucontrol I can go to the playback tab and select the mic per application and then it works, but this is a PIA. I have properly setup pulse audio as far as I know, with pulseaudio-alsa, alsa-plugins, and an asound.conf file.
I'd like it to play sound out of my headset in every application automatically when I select my headset in the mixer, and out of the speakers when I select the speakers, like gnome and kde do. Is there anyway to do this?
    Thanks

Freaky, but you're right, it works.  I was just in the middle of a garageband recording when my headset (Logitech, not sure on model) kept disappearing on me.  I got a message saying it was disconnected when it was not, then it would come back only to have the same thing happen several seconds to minutes later.  Finally it left and wouldn't come back.  I rebooted thinking it was up too long (I've gone ninety days between reboots easily).  No dice.  So I found this.
Plugged it into a powered usb hub and it's back.
Very strange indeed.  Have any advice on the SD card slot refusing to see the same card every few uses?  lol  I love my macbook pro but this weird stuff... it's just beyond me now!

  • USB Headset Prob

Hello, I installed a SB X-Fi XtremeGamer a few hours ago and I encountered some problems. The card and the software included work normally when normal speakers are connected, however, my USB headset (Speed-Link Medusa 5. USB) does not seem to cooperate with the new card. It seems that the headset uses its own "drivers" and actually bypases the sound card, if that is even possible. I tried changing the sound input and output settings from a "USB Audio" entry to the "SB X-Fi" one, but then it all went mute.
Does anyone have a solution please? Is there a chance I can get my headset to work with the new card?
    Thanks in advance?

    You answered your own question,
It seems that the headset uses its own "drivers" and actually bypases the sound card,?
You want to use that headset with your sound card you're going to need to find an adapter for the USB connection so you can plug it into the card, or get a headset that isn't USB.

  • USB Headset Works in One Port, Not the Other

When I got my headset (Logitech) it worked perfectly just after plugging it in and using it. It worked while plugged in to either of my USB ports on my laptop. Recently however, it has not worked at all while plugged in to the port on the left, while it still does work when plugged in to the port on the right.
If I open iTunes while plugged in to the non-working left port and make sure to change my system prefs so that the input and output use the Logtech USB Headset, then I hear no sound of any kind. If I then simply plug the USB headset into the other side of the computer without changing any settings, it works fine. This is new behavior as it used to work in both ports.
Another thing to note is that the volume control buttons on the headset still work even when plugged into the USB port that doesn't play sound. Also, I successfully plug in my printer, mouse and other devices to both ports and they all work fine.
I've tried repairing permissions, repairing preferences, and restarting, but nothing has helped so far.
Any ideas on why this would happen with any device?

Which operating system are you running? I have similar problems in a configuration with and iMac and a Macbook, but haven't tried to switch the system around. see this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2112054&tstart=0
My problem arose when upgrading the iMac to run OS 10.5.8.
I'll try this tomorrow and see if my problem is similar to yours by swopping the system around

  • Can I hook up 2 USB headsets to me Macbook Pro?

Can I hook up 2 USB headsets to me Macbook Pro (running v.10.9.2)?

    Are you looking through Thunderbolt? You can do it on your model with 2 Thunderbolt displays according to Apple Support document;
Thunderbolt-capable Macs, with discrete AMD Radeon graphics can support up to two connected Apple Thunderbolt Displays.
    MacBook Pro (15-inch and 17-inch, Early 2011)
    iMac (Mid 2011)2
    Mac mini (Mid 2011), 2.5 GHz3
      Two Thunderbolt display
    Here is a third party that does it also;
Matrox DualHead2Go DP Edition or TripleHead2Go DP Edition. Pricey though.

  • Z87-GD65 USB headset and BIOS 1.7 problems

OK...as i've stated on these forums before there is a problem with attaching USB headsets with this motherboard. There is already many posts about the problem so it "is a problem". F.R.E.Q 5 headphone will not work with the mobo, other people on these forums have also complained about razor headsets not working, as I agree with that it is a well known razor has compatibility issues I still think this is a mobo issue that MSI need to address. Logitech G35 work fines...but every other usb headset i've tried doesnt...this is on both 1.3 bios and 1.6. I've also tried other workarounds to no avail.
Any MSI guys readin this...these are the headphone i'm talking about
    http://www.cyborggaming.com/prod/freq5.htm
NOW..the BIOS issue...the new 1.7 that has been released...DONT FLASH IT....it just bricked my mate mobos...lucky the GD65 has dual bios. I tried it to see if it happened to get his freq 5 working...but the PC wouldn't post.
Any comments or development on this situations on this issue will be greatly appreciated.

Quote from: Nichrome on 08-December-13, 03:57:18
    Personally I don't think it's a problem with a BIOS.
Have you tried updating all the drivers? Especially Audio..
Like I said, i've tried every workaround from bios to drivers. Been on these forums, other forums, other sources and no solution seems to work. There is nothing wrong with the headphones as they work on every other PC i've tried and those have had different mobos. Those headphones even work on my Z87 MPower MAX no problem..it is just this Z87 GD65 board. Could be just a bad apple out of the bunch...but I doubt we'll get a RMA for it just cause one sort of headphones wont work on it. Now my mate got a pair of $170 headphones sitting there he cant use.
And as the to 1.7 bios...just by going off the few posts on here i'd be pulling it asap, obviously not alot of testing has been done on it. Just lucky the board has the dual bios option.

  • Pulseaudio + USB headset: mic works, headphones don't

I have a Logitech USB headset that I've gotten to work under other distros, but not yet with Arch. I'm running ALSA + Pulseaudio, with my /etc/asound.conf sending ALSA events to Pulseaudio. This works fine for everything I've used, with the exception of my headset. The mic works, but I can't get get any sound through the headphones, it just always goes to the default sound card. When I run pavucontrol I can see my headset listed as an input device, but not an output device.
Any ideas? Been searching, but haven't found anything yet.

My headset is /dev/dsp1, just FYI

  • Why is logitech 350 usb headset not recognized by my MBP?

I have a Logitech Premium USB Headset 350 that is not recognized (at all) by my fairly new MBP, which is running OS X Lion 10.7.5. I have run all of the available software updates but the headset it still not recognized as an input or output device (under system preferences). When I plug it into my old PC (Dell Inspiron) it is recognized immediately and works perfectly. Can you please help me with this? I really want to me able to use the headset on my MBP.
I have emailed Logitech several times and they have been unhelpful!

Either read the headset user manual or contact the vendor.  You should also try posting in the Bluetooth forum area.
