USB help in XP Mode in Windows 7 boot camp

I have been running Windows 7 in Boot Camp for quite some time. I need to run a program in windows XP and have installed XP mode in Windows 7.  The USB dongle I need to use for the program is not being recognized. From what I gather USB 3.0 is not supported by windows XP. I am wondering if there is a workaround to be able to utilize the USB dongle in XP mode on a MacBook Pro late 2013 with two USB 3.0 ports.  I tried uninstalling the USB 3.0 extension hub  driver from Intel and this totally negated use of the USB ports.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
From what I have known, not all USB devices will work under XP Mode hubs.
Also, Windows 7 XP Mode is not capable of detecting or recognizing USB 3.0 ports on the host system.  It is only capable of detecting and recognizing USB 2.0 ports.
Does the USB device can be detected in the host machine? On the host machine, go to Device Manager, check if USB Virtualization is installed, try to uninstall and re-install it for test.
Meanwhile, please refer the following article and check the result:

Third-party NTFS software interferes with the Apple NTFS drivers, which control whether you can see the Bootcamp partition in the Startup Disk option. As a test, can you uninstall all third-party NTFS software and check System Preferences -> Startup Disk?

  • How do I restore data to a new mac with windows boot camp partition?

    Hi
I have a new iMac and an old MBP, I'd like to copy all of the data of my old MBP to the iMac.Would doing that affect the windows boot camp partition?
and how do I do it?
right now im backing everything up on my MBP using super duper
both the MBP and the iMac are running on Lion

I am assuming the Boot Camp partition is on the old MBP and that the SuperDuper clone is on an external drive and is bootable. The Super Duper clone does not include the Boot Camp Partition.
To get the Mac Data moved you can use Migration Assistant and if you want to transfer the Boot Camp partition you would need Winclone to move/copy it to a newly created Boot Camp partition on the iMac. The SD Clone ( and a Winclone backup) is your insurance policy if some kind of difficulty arises.

  • Could I reinstall OS X partition keeping the windows boot camp partition?

II have a OS x partition that need reinstall. In the same hd I have a Windows Boot camp partition. The question is, could I reinstall OS X partition without affect the Windows partition?
    Thanks,
    Jorge.

    Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
Of course you should backup both.
Q: why do you think OS X needs to be reinstalled or something?
    Disk directory trouble?
Because 3rd party disk utility can do better, as well as maybe clone Mac volume so you can boot and do more repairs.
Or maybe the partition table is shot. Or bad sectors. And bad sectors can require a full format.
In a perfect world, but disk drives and systems aren't

Windows Boot Camp does not exist, you mean Boot Camp Assistant, which is a Mac program, it is the program you would use to prepare your Mac to run Windows.
You will need a 64bit retail or OEM version of Windows Home or Professional.
You will also need to read the Boot Camp Documentation thoroughly, and make a complete backup of your machine before repartitioning.

  • Will genius bar install windows (boot camp) for me?

will genius bar install windows (boot camp) for me? if so, costs?

Ask them. We don't know what your local Apple Store will do for you. It will certainly cost you their hourly charge for however many hours are involved. You may have to purchase Win8 from them but if not you must have a copy of your own.
Or you can take the time to read the Boot Camp documentation and do it yourself. Start here: Apple - Support - Boot Camp. Open Boot Camp Assistant then click on the large button on the left to print the documentation. Then read it very carefully.

  • [HELP] A300 Desktop Stuck at Windows Boot Manager Page

    Hi Community,
I was trying to restore my desktop back to its orginal factory settings but through the process, it encountered an error and the system restarted. When the desktop is back on, the only page it offered was the 'Windows Boot Manager' page (As seen in the picture below). It says to insert the Windows Installation disc which not only do i not have, but also the A300 desktop does not have a disc/disk drive for me to insert any disc.
I have googled for any solutions but all of them require me to insert the disc which i clearly have no ways to do so.
How am i suppose to proceed from here to get my desktop working again?
Thank you in advance for any kind responses.

    Hi lyl
The hard disk MBR seems to be corrupted
Kindly boot the desktop into BIOS by pressing F1 key and then press F9 to load default settings and after this press F10 to save and exit.
Check if the system works or recovery from hard disk runs, to run the recovery after the system power on press F2 key and check if the recovery works fine.
If the issue continues then you may need to contact the support center.

  • Ethernet Printer w/ Windows/Boot camp - help

I have just installed Boot Camp and Windows XP/SP2 on my iMac. All is well, except I can not get the iMac, when running Windows, to print to my ethernet-connected HP LaserJet 1200n. It works great when running OSX. The iMac is connected via an ethernet hub to both the printer and my router. It finds and communicates perfectly with the router. It will not, however, find the printer. I have tried all of the miserable "wizards" that I can find, but no luck. Supposedly Windows has the driver for the printer, but it can not find it. What am I doing wrong? Thank you!

    Thanks. Two questions:
    1. I was told that the drivers were part of Windows XP Pro, and even if not present the wizard should "find" an unknown printer. Are these two "facts" true or false? (I'm new to Windows)
    2. I assumed that this forum, "Windows Compatibility", would be the proper forum for this type of question (compatibility of an ethernet printer with Windows), and that the Boot Camp group would be for quetions specific to Boot Camp rather than to how to get Windows to work with a printer. Again, true or false?
Since I'm new to this I could use some direction. Thank you!

  • Help, Windows Boot Camp Installer Freezes  Befor Finshing Installation

    MacBook Pro 2.6 4g Ram 200Gg hd, 17hd 10.5 Leopard
    Gave windows 25g
Installed Windows XP Home SP2 no problem,
    Windows runs
Installing Boot Camp for Windows - Freezes on The Atheros wireless install - Hard Freeze - (left it for 30 min So far.) Mouse is frozen, keyboard dose not work.

    Justin:
    How about we try this:
    1. Hard Wire the internet connection to your Macbook Pro via the ethernet port
    2. This should allow you to connect to the internet
    3. Open Internet Explorer
    4. Choose Tools from the menu of the Internet Explorer and then click on Windows Update
    5. This should open a separate window from which you can choose update and at that point windows update should get the drivers for Atheros and list them as Optional Update. Install those drivers.
I am not sure if you can even get this far but is worth a shot.

  • Cannot install windows 8.1 on imac 5k - apple support says "Correct, that machine can't install windows" Boot camp fail

I have a brand new imac 5k, with 4ghz i7, 295x GPU, 3.1TB fusion drive.  Bought the machine so I could dual boot - I need windows for VR Dev work.
I've spent the last week and a half on tech support calls with Apple Senior Tech agents, and Microsoft agents as well, and today have been told that indeed this machine cannot run windows 8.1.  Apparently Apple engineering knows about the issue, but says the problem is microsoft's.  Ugh.
The latest iteration of the issue comes when installing 8.1 onto an external thunderbolt SSD (without even using boot camp) - I go through the EFI installer, convert the drive to GPT, format it as ntfs, but when I select the partition to install onto, the installer says it can't find the partition it just created.  Smuh?
I've also tried the install through boot camp.  This installation actually worked twice, but the install was unstable.  After booting back into osX, then returning to Windows, the windows install went corrupt and couldn't be repaired.  Subsequent attempts to install windows yielded a flurry of different errors, including "windows doesn't support GPT in this mode" or "the disk is locked, please unlock the disk" or "MBR must be converted to GPT" (where once I converted to GPT, the drive could no longer be found, despite the operation completing successfully.)
At any rate, it's a huge mess.  I'd happily return the machine for a different config, but the company I bought it from will only swap it for a similar model -- so I've spent a pile on a machine that does not function as advertised; apple says "too bad, talk to Microsoft." Microsoft says "too bad, we've never seen this, this is an apple issue."
Has anyone out there gotten windows up and running on an iMac5k with fusion drive?  If so, did you have to go through a crazy maze to make it work?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    MC

After much gnashing of teeth, and a half dozen support calls, I'd all but given up.  I finally seem to have solved this though - sort of - by installing windows 8.1 on boot camp on an older iMac, then cloning the bootcamp disk to an external thunderbolt drive via Winclone.  That worked seamlessly, sticking to winclone's instructions, and I can boot via EFI to Windows 8.1 on the new iMac.  So far so good.
I usually install W8.1 via EFI by using DU and a Free Space partition. The 3TB Fusion is first split into the underlying SSD/HDD physicals. OSX and Windows OSes are installed on SSD via EFI (no BCA). The OSX part and half the HDD are then used to create a new CS volume. The other HDD half becomes NTFS for non-Windows OS files. The Hybrid MBR method is completely unsatisfactory with the 3TB Fusion drive.
How is the TB/Winclone image for performance of the OS (since pagefile.sys is also on the TB)?

  • HELP - Mac Prp Freezes when Installing Boot Camp Drivers

    Please HELP me!
I just installed Windows XP Pro SP2 on its own hard disk on my Mac Pro using Boot Camp.
Then I inserted the Leopard Install DVD and started to install the boot camp drivers.
In the middle of installing the "Intel chipset" my Mac Pro froze. The might mouse no longer would move the cursor etc. After waiting 10 minutes, I just rebooted.
In the troubleshooting section of the Guide, it suggested I re-run the Boot Camp Drivers and click repair. I could not see any "Repair" option. The only option was INSTALL. I tried to install the Boot Camp drivers again and the mac Pro froze again (now showing Broadcom drivers).
Any ideas? This is really frustrating.
    Rob

I was able to complete the boot camp drivers wizard in Windows. But I had to first disconnect my firwire iSight and my Apple USB Modem.
But now when I reboot I still see a new Hardware Found Wizard. It looks like it did not load the iSight Drivers.
Now when I run the Boot Camp Drivers I see REPAIR. I tried that but that did not solve the problem. No drivers are being loaded for my firewire iSight. In Device Manager I see question marks beside iSight.
    Any Ideas?

  • Windows Boot camp drivers won't install

So I'm trying to put windows on my mac again, for the fifth time since windows won't let me activate it anymore. Everything goes fine and it installs and I put the Mac os x install disc 1 in to install the drivers. It loads up and goes through the process of installing the drivers. Once its down it asks me to restart the computer which I do. Once I get in however, none of the drivers are installed like nothing ever happened. I can tell because I can't get internet and the trackpad won't work properly. The boot camp faq shows up and another window to update something shows up but it need the internet to work. I go and try to repair the drivers and it runs its course, restarts and still nothing! No drivers. I've tried deleting the drivers and reinstalling them, removing the partition and reinstalling but nothing is working. I've gotten the drivers just fine before but now they just won't install. I've updated my mac from 10.6.4 to 10.6.7 so can that be the problem? Its the only thing I did different.

I'm at my office at the moment and I don't have the disc to view. Tell me, have you found the drivers folder? You can select any driver and it should automatically open boot camp and install all "Apple Drivers" while in windows mode. Then after installing bootcamp, you can install Apple updater. I'm adding more than I should because I don't know how far along you are- if you look around the clock area in windows, you should see a boot camp icon; is it there?
Send me a screen shot with your disc open and I can maybe help you from there. [email protected] Otherwise, I will look at the direct path this evening and post the info here.

  • Screen is now dim/darker in Windows Boot Camp

I'm running Windows XP on my iMac through boot camp. While playing WoW the other day the screen suddenly dimmed as if someone had just drastically reduced the brightness/gamma. This has never happened before.
When I reboot, the screen is bright as normal for a few moments, then flicks back to being dim. The only recent change to the mac was an update a few days ago (it was quite large; Itunes 10 plus some other updates). The brightness is fine in osx. The problem didn't occur right after the update, just randomly during a game. I thought I had pressed an incidental key combination.
No settings were manually changed so I cannot understand why it would suddenly do this. It seems Windows is switching over to a duller screen mode just after boot.
Not knowing the cause I tried to adjust the gamma settings in Windows with QuickGamma, but I cannot make the screen look like it's former glory. It just makes the screen look brighter in a bad way, lacking depth and saturation.
Is this a current issue with a recent update or something else?

    Same here.
    Yesterday the screen was ok
Today screen is very dim mostly at the top
when awaking fom sleep it is ok but a second after it gets dim again
    Any help?

  • M-Audio ProFire audio interfaice not seen by Windows/Boot Camp

It seems Windows XP SP2 under Boot Camp, running on a Mac Pro dual-quad Nahalem 2.66 has a problem with connecting to Firewire devices. It won't even boot up with Firewire 800 drives connected, and I understand from reading posts in other threads that this is a common problem.
The problem I'm looking to get resolved has to do with my M-Audio ProFire FW 400 interface. Windows will boot up in Boot Camp with the ProFire connected and powered on, and I have installed the latest driver from M-Audio. But when I launch the ProFire control panel, it reports that it cannot find a ProFire connected. I use the ProFire in the Mac OS side in Logic and ProTools, so the unit and connection are fine. I will also be contacting M-Audio to see if they know of this issue.
    TIA for any help.
    - Paul

hey i don't know if this helps but i have M-audio Firewire Audiophile...it seems that when you boot windows, if m-audio is "ON" it searches for the pc Bios... but maybe it's not possible on a mac...
first time i rebooted bootcamp i noticed that i could see the levels volume on the m-audio control panel but i didn't hear any audio from speakers....
    so what i did???
now every time i boot windows, m-audio first is OFF...then after completely booted, i turn it on...autosearching for its drivers, wait for 2 beeps from the speakers...then
AUDIO IS ALWAYS ON AFTER MANY HOURS... :-)TESTED [OK]
but i hope they solve this problem soon...
