USB Hub and FireWires Configuration

How can I identify if my USB hub and FireWires are the authentic configuration? I have 2 hubs connected and am not sure what the configuration is like from Apple and whether someone is connected to my iMac.

Nobody could connect to your USB or Firewire without a cable, only way some could connect to your Mac would be with a cable, or Wifi/Arport to your computer or router.

  • Can i use ALL usb ports and firewire port at same time??

can you plug in two usb devices and a firewire device, all at the same time??
    into macbook or macbook pro....
macbook manual says, one high powered usb device can be plugged in.
but i dont know if they mean into each port, or at one time in total.
i just spoke to apple, and they told me to call support. i havent even bought the laptop yet.
i want to plug in a fast track pro audio interface = usb
a mouse = mouse, akai mpd16 drum pad = usb, and a 7200rpm firewire external hard drive..........so all my ports i wanna be using at the same time.
is this possible? or will macbook and the macbook pro differ in performance regarding this issue?
say if i buy a usb hub and plug in 5 usb devices...........possible?
    or is their limitations??
    thanks in advance.

MacBook - since I was replying to a MacBook question it wouldn't have exactly made sense to refer to my iMac experience, right?
BTW - there are two caveats. First, USB and FW ports can supply power to the devices that are plugged in but there is a limit to how much power they can supply which is why you should always use a powered hub if you are using a hub. If you are using your computer on battery, don't attempt to use an unpowered hub to plug in more devices. Second, if you are on battery, obviously the more unpowered USB/FW devices you have plugged in getting their power from the computer, the faster your battery will be drained.
An unpowered hub shouldn't pull in more than 500 mA. If it's four 100 mA devices plugged into the same hub, it wouldn't use more than a single 500 mA device like maybe a self-powered hard drive. Plugging in stuff like a USB mouse and a flash drive shouldn't consume too much power.
If you're already on battery power then I don't know if it would make much sense to say that one needs a powered hub; where's the power source? I know there are a few (rare) battery-powered USB hubs out there, but I don't know that many people who have them.

I can't print wirelessly using Airport Express.  I have my HP printer connected to a USB hub, and the hub to the Airport Express, but when I select the HP from the printer list, my MacBook says the printer is "off-line" - even when it is not.  I've tried several USB connectors, and several different ports on my USB hub; same result.  I need to have the HP connected to the hub 'cause from there it's connected to our desktop Mac.

    Hi,
I am currently replying to this as it shows in the iChat Community.
I have asked the Hosts to move it to Snow Leopard  (you should not lose contact with it through any email links you get)
I also don't do Wirelss printing so I can't actaully help either.

  • Airport Extreme w/Powered USB Hub and External Disk Drive Win 7

    Hello,
I have an Airport Extreme device setup with a Belkin powered USB hub in the USB port.  I am using the
hub to network a USB printer and an external hard drive.  I established a wireless home network
for Windows 7 PCs.  I am able to print to the printer from all clients on the network.  However, the clients
cannot see the hard disk even though it displays in the Airport Utility > Disks.  I have selected
"Share over Ethernet WAN port" in the configuration.  Can you tell me what I am missing in order to make this drive
accessible and usable to the clients on the network?
    Thank you in advance.

The base station can't read or share a drive formatted to NTFS.

  • USB Hubs and WMS 2011

    Hi All,
I wonder if someone can advise me please/
I am trying to configure a promethean IWB in windows multipoint 2011.
Now the system lets me install IWB drivers and also sees the Promethean board and the Board is interactiv
however when i either switch from maintenance mode to user mode the IWB stops working and audio disappears.
this also happens during a Pc reboot and the IWB stops working.
Do USB Hubs Sleep, could this be the cause?

I know you posted this a few months ago but I'm afraid it's not going to work for you.
When in maintenance mode the host is acting a single user machine and will function as you expect any single use win7 machine etc.... once you switch to normal mode the multi user mode comes in to play and only certain devices will be able to be used such
as usb hubs, usb memory sticks, usb audio devices.
Not even scanners work when in normal mode which is a pain.
    Ben
    Hi Ben,
My name is Gino, from the Philippines. I am currently working on the same project as a community service to the less-privileged elementary students here.  I too have the same problem with the promethean board connected to the multipoint server 2011.
    Any updates, thanks

  • USB hub and internet sharing stop working after sleep

    Hi,
I have a relatively new Bluestork USB hub I purchased to connect multiple USB devices I have at the same time. It used to work correctly under Leopard, but now it stops working each time the computer wakes up from sleep. I have to restart the computer for it to start working again. Both link and power LEDs stay on, even when the hub is not recognized.
My second problem is related to internet sharing. It stops working after each sleep/wakeup cycle and the only way to make it work again is to restart the computer. It used to work correctly before Snow Leopard as well.
I have all the Mac updates installed.

    Thanks Barry.
The hub is on its way to the manufacturer for after sales service...
But the issue with AirPort remains the same, even after resetting SMC.
    Some clarification:
    * It happens just after computer wakes up from sleep. Restarting solves the problem and the issue doesn't arise until computer goes standby again.
    * The whole WiFi card becomes unresponsive. It is not only the Turn Off button, but the whole functionality is stopped. The card can not be activated/deactivated and it doesn't connect to any network. If it is used for internet sharing, clients are unable to connect.

  • EIGRP in a NBMA hub and spoke configuration ?

    Hi,
Is there a way to configure EIGRP for a Frame Relay NBMA network using a hub and spoke topology ?
I'm curious that I cannot find any config examples for this, whereas with OSPF in this environment there are plenty of examples.
I'm wondering if EIGRP being a distance-vector protocol this shouldn't be attempted.
PS: I've been at this all day and have only managed to get EIGRP to work in one cofiguration and that was using physical interfaces on all routers and switching off split horizon at the hub router. I used frame-relay map statements with broadcast enabled also.
    Any pointers would be appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Phil.

    hi phil,,,
here is the configuration for the HUB router
    ! hostname ABC
    interface Ethernet1
    ip address 192.168.2.1 255.255.255.0
    interface Serial0
    no ip address
    encapsulation frame relay
    no ip mroute cache
    interface Serial0.1 multipoint
    ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0
no ip split horizon eigrp 2001 Split Horizons disabled
bandwidth 112 Bandwidth set to the sum of the remote PVCs
frame relay map ip 192.168.1.5 110 broadcast
frame relay map ip 192.168.1.6 130 broadcast
router eigrp 2001 EIGRP routing process
    network 192.168.1.0 Networks running EIGRP
you can have appropriate IP addressing as per your design...
you can have some easy configuration at spoke side with compere to HUB router....

  • AirPort & USB Hub and Two Printers?

The AP Exp. manual says I can print to multiple printers connected via a USB hub. However, I have a Brother Laser Printer and an HP Inkjet printer. When I connect either directly to the AP Exp. they are instantly recognized and installed and I can print to each one directly.
However, when I connect the hub and attach both printers to it, the only printer recognized is the HP Inkjet. When I switch them on the USB ports (i.e. 1&2), the result is the same. Even if I unplug the HP, the Brother is still not recognized as the only printer connected to the hub.
    What could be causing this?

Nope. According to Apple the specifically recommend it: per the following Tech note:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1487
"AirPort Express Base Station with 802.11n
Single powered USB printer directly into the USB port, or several printers to the base station via a powered USB hub"
Either way, it wouldn't explain why only the HP printer shows up when connected via the hub.

  • Airport Extreme, Belkin USB Hub, and external hard drive

I'm having a serious meltdown. I've been at this all day long and I've reviewed SEVERAL, if not all, discussion threads. I've seen my question many times on many threads, but yet to find a solution!
Just got the hub, and I tried today to connect the Belkin USB hub so I could get my external hard drive accessible from my Mac. My external drive worked fine on my PC. I recently moved to Mac.
Printer works with no issue at all, but my external drive does not even list in either the Disk Utility or System Profiler. It just doesn't get recognized. I've tried EVERYTHING...switching ports, connecting directly to my Macbook, restarting, etc., etc., etc. NOTHING.
Anyone have any insight to this? I'm ready to throw in the towel.

Ok I'll try that! Uh oh...now I can't even see the external drive on my PC! I also spent some time looking at the manufacturer's website to see if there's any software I may have downloaded before using the hard drive, but the website is not helpful in that capacity (www.cavalrystorage.com). I don't remember having software when I first started using it. Furthermore, I just looked at paperwork I received when I got the drive back in Nov.06 and it says not to use "the CD if you have Windows", (to install a driver, perhaps?) which of course, I did. But now I can't find what disc I may have gotten with the drive. It also had no specific instructions for a Mac. Although the external drive has wonderful reviews, and says you can use it with a PC or Mac. I hope this helps. I certainly appreciate your help!
I'm starting to think something has gone awry with the external hard drive? I've tried connecting through the hub (my printer works at least!), direct to AirPort, and direct to laptop and nothing.

  • Network/USB Hubs and AExtremeBS

  • USB Hub and Devices

Wondering if anyone can help me out. This has been an issue with all my macs and all my hubs and usb external devices for years......
I always have to unplug then plug back in certain devices for my computer to see them. I now own a new belkin hub that whenever it sits for a bit (An hour or two) and I go to use something connected to it (Flash Card Reader, Ipod Shuffle doc) it seems like i gotta unplug then plug the hub back in to get it going again.
    I would appreciate any suggestions.

If you connect these devices directly without the hub does the problem persist? If not then the problem is with the hub. Contact the manufacturer's tech support for assistance or try a different hub. If the hub can be powered separately then use the separate power supply rather than drawing power from the port. iPods should be connected directly to the port and not through a hub.

  • Usb hub and ethernet adapter

I have not been able to get the usb hub to work with more than one usb device. Has anyone had any luck getting it to work with say the usb ethernet hub and a hard drive?

Is the USB hub self powered?
I'm experiencing a similar problem with a Belkin 4 USB powered hub.
It will allow only 3 USB peripherals to be connected at the same time.
It's not a problem with one of the USB ports on the hub, because I can switch the devices and only 3 will be connected.
And since this hub is self powered, I believe there's a limitation on the MBA side.
Basically, I've connected 2 USB HD (Time Machine & a SuperDuper Backup), and 2 printers, and at any time only 3 will work.

  • AEx N, usb hub and printer

    Hi,
So I have an airport extreme n, a USB hub that connects a hp printer and an external hard drive. What I have noticed is that when I use the hub, I can't use the printer. The airport utility doesn't see it. When I plug the printer directly in the AEx's USB, it works just fine.
    I'm running Leopard.
Has anybody else experienced this problem?

I have the complete opposite problem. I can print just fine when my printer is plugged into my USB hub plugged into my AEX. But if I plug my printer USB directly into my AEX, then it does not see it at all. It only works with the HUB. I'd like to have less wires on my desk, but I'm forced to use the hub. It's the only thing plugged into the HUB.
I've tried resetting the AEX and reconfiguring things, rebooting things, everything, but the AEX just doesn't see my HP printer unless it's plugged into my USB hub. I don't even have the power plugged into the hub. So it's nothing to do with USB power.
Maybe I should trade my AEX with doc_rkp's AEX and we would be set.

  • USB Hub and iPod

Do I need a powered USB Hub to connect my iPod to my iMac or will a standard, non-powered one work?

It needs to be a high power USB port.
The port on the keyboard is not high power. Also, it's a USB 1.1 port so it would be slower than molasses on a cold day.
If your hub is connected to one of the USB ports on back of the computer, those are high power.
If the hub is powered, it is a high power hub.
