USB in imovie HD

I only use imovie HD to edit. Don' like 09. My problem is that my second camera is a waterproof panassonic with USB conection and I can't import.
Does anybody know how I can transfer the footage from the camera to imovie HD?
Thank you.

• use iM09 to import from cam
• drag resulting .mov from iMovie-Events/yourimportevent into iMHD5/6 ..
• no step 3 ...
tech background:
iM09 converts your cam's videos into appleintermediate-encoded .movs, which are compatible with iM5/6 .. you use iM09 as an importer&converter-tool ..

  • How do i get video from my sony hx100 digital camera to my mac? after connecting the camera via the supplied usb cable, iMovie shows icons for 5 videos, but none will load.

i've connected the camera to the mac using the supplied usb cable. imovie shows 5 icons for videos but all of them have the red circle with slash through them and the box to import them is grayed out.

Get a nice Sony miniDV camcorder. It is not too expensive; it is small and easy to carry around to shoot your video. Most importantly, it will be instantly compatible with iMovie. You don't have to install any software, just connect it via FireWire (Sony calls this iLink) and you are good to go!
I have had several Sonys and love them. You don't need one with fancy editing capabilities because you will edit your movies in iMovie. Just be sure that it has AV In and Out so you can import and export back to the camcorder.
My current version is the small DCR HC-26. There are newer versions of that HC-30something and 40something. Look at the specs on Sony's website
Some of them require the use of a dock to import and export. I am not really fond of that feature. I like just connecting directly to the camera.

  • Won't charge with USB or iMove Boombox But Will With FireWire

I Have a 4th Gen 40GB iPod the other week it died from having an alarm on so i went to charge it on my pc but it was too dead to charge with my pc. because I don't know where my Firewire power adapter is i hooked it up to my car adapter on the way to work. thus it was charging, but once i got to work i hooked it up to my imove plugged into the ac outlet, it said it was fully charged (i.e. the battery indicator was full and not moving and a lightning bolt showing AC Power) any way an hour later it popped up a massage that says power low must shutdown. it dose the same thing if i'm syncing With the USB cord. i would us the firewire but my firewire port isn't working any more it's not the cable or the computer i tried it on other PC Firewire will charge, & USB won't and says it already is even though it's draining battery not pulling power from the pc. so now i'm trying to re sync my 35GB or so "over 6,000 songs" over USB before my battery dies again. (Yes i Have A Dock) Thanks Apple for a great product that only faults mainly around battery/power issues....

good to know that 3G ipods don't charge through usb - but I still don't understand why an AC adapter wouldn't work. I can't even figure out the charging patern - it seems that when I plug it in through USB it drains the battery, but the battery life varies. One minute it will have full charge, then the next it will turn off and say it is empty, then the next it will have half life, all without plugging it in. Frustrating...

  • MiniDV camcorder via USB not recognized in iMovie

I have the camcorder plugged in (power), and connected to the 24" iMac via USB, but iMovie or Mac can't see it. Any suggestions??

The only way to access the "Tape" content from a MiniDV camcorder is thru the "Firewire" port.
The USB is only used for pictures stored in the Memory card.

  • I made a duplicate copy of an imovie HD project and when I updated the titles on the copy, the video stuttered . I'm using Snow Leopard OSX. The length of the movie increased unexpedtedly too.

I made a duplicate  of an imovie HD project so I could have two different versions. I tried making the copies both by using File> Duplicate and the Save As command in imovie.
When I changed the title on the copy, the video stuttered when I played it back.  Also the overall length of the movie increased by about 6 seconds throwing off some sync even though the replacement title was exactly the same length in seconds and frames as the one I replaced.
any thoughts how to fix this?
    I'm using OSX 10.6.8.
    thanks.

    *Dear Mac Users:*
Hello. Thanks to AppleMan1958 for answering my question about how to edit an iMovie project
    on another computer.
Here is a question related to the process of transferring the iMovie '09 project file from my friend's
computer to an external drive so that I can edit that project in iMovie '09 on my MacBook Pro:
How do I know if my Smart Disk FireLite portable external drive is formatted to MAC OS X Extended (journaled)? How I do format this Smart Disk FireLite USBFLB80C to MAC OS X Extended (journaled)?
When I connect the Smart Disk FireLite to my MacBook Pro via USB, open iMovie '09, and select View
Events By Disk or rather "Group Events By Disk," an icon for the FireLite external drive appears, but there is a yellow triangle with a black exclamation mark on the icon for the external drive. What does this "warning" mean? There are MP3s of music on the same external drive and they open just fine in iTunes. The one iMovie project file that is already on the drive will not open up in iMovie.
So, how do I properly format this external drive in order to transfer an iMovie project file from my friend's computer so that I can edit it on my MacBook Pro using iMovie '09?
    Sincerely,
    Corey

  • IMovie wont open a saved library

I saved my iMovie project onto USB from iMovie version 10.0.4
I took it to University to work on it, but the iMovie available is 10.0.1
It won't let me open the project I'm working on because apparently it's an 'older' version.
I don't understand why this is, after all it's not like either of the versions are 9 or older; they are both version 10s.
Because it's a University computer, it won't let me update the iMovie to the latest version (in fact the update isn't even showing up)
What can I do to be able to edit my movie on the University Mac? I really need to.

Ok, maybe a little more information would help.
How did you make the movie?
    what won't open the movie?
Will it open in the photos app?
What theme are you talking about?
Can you please explain what you are doing, and what is not working.

  • How to Edit Titles, Transitions, and Music in a Copy of an iMovie Project?

    23 December 2009
    Dear Mac Users:
Happy Holidays! I am writing to find out how to edit a copy of an iMovie project. A friend made an
iMovie (project) on his MacBook Pro and sent it to me as an MPEG4 video file. I opened that MPEG4 video file in iMovie on my MacBook Pro and dragged it into a new project in my Project Library--we
    are both using iMovie '09.
Is there any way that I can view the title, transition, and music buttons/icons/markers that my friend used to create this particular iMovie project so that I can select them and make changes to the titles, transitions, and music? Primarily, I want to change the titles in this particular iMovie project, but do not see the buttons/icons/markers that are associated with the original iMovie project that my friend created. Is there any way that I can make changes to the titles and transitions that appear in this project on my computer?
    SIncerely,
    Corey

  • Working directly from a USB on apple applications

I've been given over 1,000 photos to put into a slideshow with special effects on imovie. My Snow Leopard is already low on space, so I refuse to put the photos on the hardware. I work a lot on imovie and it often has to restart or freezes because I have so much data. Is it possible to work directly from a USB on imovie/iphoto without putting the data actually on the hardware?

no so i dont know what happened

  • IMovie won't recognize my Canon Elura 85, can't import video.

Hi there, I'm trying import video from my Canon Elura 85 into iMovie. It only has a USB port and a "DV" port (I have no idea what this DV port is, I'm using the provided USB cable). iMovie says there's no camera attached. I tried using image capture, it couldn't find it either. Everyone else who has an Elura 85, doesn't seem to have problems importing, just seperating takes. I can't even import. Can anyone help me? Many thanks. -A

Yeah, figured out that that DV out was the firewire cable out. Feeling real slick right about now.

  • Canon HV-40 and iMovie '09.  CAN'T IMPORT FROM CAMERA!

Canon HV-40 (USB) and iMovie '09 8.0.3 (802) - (USB Based video editing software) NOT TALKING!!!!
Just bought the camera because my new MacBook does NOT have a FIREWIRE connection.
    Now I have three cameras.
Two Firewire ones, and one USB.
Can't work either with iMovie '09, nor iMovie HD 6.0.3 (267.2).
    Thank you for helping me...

To import from Tape based cameras, you need Firewire. If you can still return your MacBook, trade it in for the 13" MacBook Pro with Firewire that was announced last week.

  • Imovie '11 won't recognize Canon Vixia HF10

I have been trying forever to get my Computer to Recognize my Vixia. I was a little disappointed because supposidly the canon is supposed to be very compatible. Every thread I read says to connect the cam into a power source and connect it via USB and Imovie should automatically recognize it. It does not.
I should let you know I am trying to get clips off of it's hard drive.
I have tried import, Movies, selecting the camera and all those files are greyed out.
Any Ideas? It will not pop up automatically I don't know what to do.
    Thanks
    Emily

Sometimes the order in which you launch iMovie and connect the camera can make a difference. I always recommend going the extra step of having the camera attached to the wall, connected to the computer, powered on, then put into playback mode. THEN, start the computer up...
Launch iMovie once you see the desktop appear then go to the File Menu > Import from Camera...
Best practice for connecting the camera is usually to have it powered up and playing back before you even launch iMovie at the least.

  • Imovie and Sony harddrive camcorders

This really has me confused. I keep reading posts in this forums where knowledgable people are saying don't buy harddrive Sony's as they will not work with mac using usb and imovies and to work you have to buy a mini tapes camera and use firewire. Well I purchased a Sony DCR-SR82 (60gig hard drive)and I have the imac do 20 intel. After reading the advice of some great people in this forum I downloaded MPEG Streamclip (free) and the Apple Quicktime plugin mpeg viewer ($19)so now I connect my Sony by USB2 and download the movies to Streamclip, convert to dv and then make movies with imovie and burn with idvd and everything so far works great. It is so nice to not bother with tapes and the Sony makes great vidios. Also I believe that imovie makes better videos that the Sony software for the pc side. I just wanted to share in case other people might want to try this also. jim_joh2

    Hi jim:
I am one of those that often suggests that imovie users should not purchase Harddrive cameras, but only IF
*The harddrive camera does not have a firewire or USB2 port
    Or if
*The user wants to import directly to imovie from the camera without having to use third-party applications
Many folks here just want to 'plug and play' their cameras. It's those that do not understand how to convert (or those who do want to convert) that usually get the advice of not getting a Hard Drive Camera.
Also, there may be some quality reduction when converting from MPEG-2 to .dv (and then back again if you want to burn a DVD).
    :)Just my 2¢ FWIW

  • What is a good video camera for Imovie

I would like to video sports training directly into Imovie so that during the training session I can show the person his moves and what he is doing right and wrong.
I'm also a novice at Mac but have got I movie working with camera in monitor. I also read that fire wire should be used because there is problems with USB and Imovie.
    Any help would be appricated.
    Thanks

If your priority is to make a video and show it immediately, you don't need iMovie. It takes time to import into iMovie. It takes time to make your edits. Then it takes time to share your movie so it can be viewed.
What you need is the equivalent of the Golf Pro who would make a VHS tape of your swing, then pull the tape out of the camera, put it in the player, and push play.
To do that with modern HD cameras, pick a good AVCHD camera that records to an SDHC card, or to a hard drive. Plug an HDMI cable between your camera and a high definition TV. You can select the clip you want and push play.
If you wanted to provide the client a copy to keep, you could import it into iMovie later.
Before I forget, [here is a list of supported cameras.|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3290]

  • Sony EX1 import to IMOVIE

Will the new imovie import from the Sony EX1
    thanks

The quick answer is no. The Sony EX1 is not on the [supported list|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3290]
However, it might work since the EX1 supports HDV stream through firewire, which iMovie can handle. It also supports MPEG2 through USB, which iMovie can handle but only for supported camcorders and only for standard definition. So if it works it all, it would likely be limited to HDV quality (1440x1080). So you would be using less than the full capabilities of the camera.
    For the real answer...
    1) If you own an EX1, take it to the Apple Store and plug it in and test it.
    2) If you own an $8,000 camera, you probably also own Final Cut Pro or the equivalent, and you can import it that way and edit in AIC or ProRes422 in iMovie 09.
    3) Check User Groups [like this one on Vimeo|http://vimeo.com/groups/XDcam]. (A quick check showed no iMovie users in this group.)
    4) You might be able to import after processing through something like MPEG Streamclip with MPEG2 Playback Component.
Sorry for the speculation. I know you want a real yes or no.

  • What format does Imovie Accept

Hello community, i just got a macbook a month ago, and now im trying to make a movie in Imovie, but when i try to drag the video from my usb to Imovie there happens nothing, the format is .AVI
So does any of you got a idea of what i should do?
    Merry Chrismas from:
    viggohelligsoe

You need to convert the .avi format... I use something from WonderShare but it's $40 - just Googled and found this. Since it's free, it wouldn't hurt to give it a try. You can also try the WonderShare converter for a certain period of time - see if it works for you.
